Jundu |
Jundu steps closer and starts his dance routine, flinging sweat at the minotaur.
Casting grease on the 10' square occupied by the minotaur. DC 15 Reflex or fall prone.
GM DevilDoc |
Black sun fires off another miss, while Ajax makes it across the log and prepares to go toe to toe. Cyclic pokes the air near the beast with her spear, Argor swishes his staff through the grass, and Aerian is shooting birds in the bushes.
Jundu steps closer, casting a spell on the ground beneath the minotaur.
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 - 2 = 10
With a roar of outrage and a thunderous crash, the beast topples over!
Janira lifts up her voice, calling encouragement to the pathfinder hopefuls, and telling tales of bygone battles while loading her crossbow
The angry giant gets back to its feet, drawing an extra strike from Argor.

Edit: What I am going to do though, is redo my retcon for the turn that Jundu cast Grease. In initiative order, he is before Black Sun, Cyclic, and Aerian's attacks. At a tabletop, your three attacks would have been vs prone until it could stand again on its next turn. I believe that denying yall your prone bonuses just because of posting order goes against the general intent. Aerian, sorry, but that still misses. Black Sun and Cyclic, your last round attacks both hit.

When the minotaur stands back up, Jundu looses another arrow at it.

As the minotaur tries to climb to its feet, Argor pops it cleanly upside the head, square between the horns. The beasts eyes cross, and it sinks back onto its haunches for but a moment before toppling over, unconscious. Janira lets loose with a cry of triumph, exalting in your triumphs. "By the gods! You were just in time! That was AMAZING!! You did so well!!" She runs over to the group, clapping you on the back, a huge smile on her face. Once the congratulations and greetings are over, she asks "So, what did you find in the caves? Did you meet any Gillmen?"
Cyclic |
"We did! There was an ancient alter and a Gillman doing some kind of ritual at it. There is definitely historical significance here. We were tasked to clear out some undesirables that crept it and we did so before we joined you."
Aerian |
Aerian, not sure if this thing might regenrate, walks over to it and performs a coup de grace with his short sword.
coup de grace: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 5) = 10
He turns back to Janira. "It was fascinating in there... the murala! and the model of Absalom, and the gillman and his tale of pilgrimages here. Interesting place... Thank you for the opportunity to explore it."
GM DevilDoc |
Aerian makes sure that the monstrous beast will never rise again, before joining Cyclic in reporting their success.
Once everyone has reported and rested, Janira gathers the group for an uneventful return to Absalom where you meet in Master of Scrolls Kreighton Shaine's office to report in. He enquires excitedly about your findings, and praises your notes. He then turns to Janira and compliments her on her guidance and assistance, during which she beams happily at the praise.
Three days later, you are each summoned by the leader of your chosen faction to be Initiated into the Pathfinder Society and assigned a mentor. As part of the ceremony, you are gifted a personalized Wayfinder with the reminder that this is not only the symbol of the Pathfinder's trade, but also a reminder of the three principle duties: Explore, Report, and Cooperate!
And there we have it, Folks. The end of the first mission. Thank you for allowing me to take you on this journey, and I hope that I am living up to your expectations so far! Chronicle sheets can be found here.
Also, If you wouldn't mine, please take a moment and give me some feedback on the game. This helps me to know what to work on so that I can be a better GM for you, the player. So far, I am averaging only two responses per table for the last 8-10 games I have GM'd for. Care to help me change those stats??
I would like to give it at least a day or so before we start Masters of the Fallen Fortress, in case anyone needs to work on their character or make purchases (And I can get some background work done too!). Once everyone has their chronicle and is ready, post over in the Discussion and we will get moving. We will continue the game in this same thread just to make it easier on everyone.
GM DevilDoc |
A wide field of shattered weapons, barrow mounds, and mass graves surrounds the city of Absalom, a vast plain known as the Cairnlands. Rising from the war-torn earth like the grasping arms of the dead are countless siege castles, towers, and fortresses constructed over the millennia by would-be warlords who tried to take the great city and inevitably failed. Like forgot ten monuments to failed conquerors, the siege castles of Absalom beckon the brave, the fearless, and the foolish with the promise of adventure and untold treasures, ever ready to create heroes or to entomb the fallen.
Having just been released from reporting to Master of Scrolls Aram and the formalities concluding your Confirmation into the Pathfinder society, you are just now hearing the rumors on the streets.. an earthquake has opened up one of the many towers dotting the Cairnlands. Word on the street is that no one has yet entered the tower, which folks are calling the “Fallen Fortress.” What better way to start a life of excitement and adventure than by exploring its long-abandoned, dusty halls and perhaps claiming its ancient treasures? A chance like this is extremely rare, as any of the many war machines that were accessible have been picked clean over the years. Of those left, powerful enchantments still protect these icons and monoliths from the rampaging treasure seeking hordes. It seems that a minor earthquake has accomplished what the mightiest of wizards and clerics could not!
If you have not gone shopping now would be a good time!
The team confers, and decides that this would be a fitting first mission for such newly minted Pathfinders. You wind your way through the city towards the gate nearest the Tower, and eventually find yourselves passing through the massive defensive walls and gates of Absalom. As the Cairnlands stretch out before you, it is easy enough to follow the directions you received from the streets. After several hours of hiking, the ruined siege castle now being called the Fallen Fortress rises out of the churned earth of the Cairnlands. No doors or windows mar the otherwise smooth expanse of the tower’s walls. The tower is quatrefoil in plan; its eastern wing has largely collapsed, exposing the interior floors to the open air. Only the topmost level seems whole, though its eastern portion hangs precariously over the mountain of rubble left by the collapse. At ground level, the rubble frames a gaping hole in the side of the building that provides access to the tower’s darkened interior. The tower stands 80 feet tall and its exterior walls are amazingly smooth. As you stand admiring the sight before you, a determined growl reverberates off of the stone around you. Looking up, you can see three half-starved mutts approaching, hackles raised and teeth bared. Their ribs poke through their hides as the creatures begin to circle.. obviously looking at you as lunch!

Black Sun surges forward on the energy of her own blast, squishing one of the dogs like a ball of putty.
GM DevilDoc |
It seems that the Pathfinder Society agrees with Cyclic as she wears her new face into the wastelands around Absalom. When the dogs attack, she steps off to the side, maneuvering for a better angle. Aerian steps out and fires an arrow, striking the dog on the left flank who lets out a yipping snarl of pain.
Black Sun moves forward and unleashes a blast of energy at one dog, killing it outright.
The two remaining dogs rush forward, snapping and snarling at Black Sun and at Argor. The dog attacking Black Sun is too weak to get a good bite in, but the other one savages Argor's leg!

Cyclic just steps up. This rough terrain is tough on a little gnome in medium armor who was struggling to see the dogs over the dwarf.
"Shoo! Shoo!" she says as she waves her hands violently in the dogs direction.
GM DevilDoc |
Argor, Ajax, Jundu, and Black Sun all try to attack the dogs. Although half starved, the beasts are nimble enough still to evade such crude attempts at harming them!
Moved you, Jundu. Thank you for asking!!
Cyclic moves up as close as her little legs will carry her.

The team patches up their wounds, and then turns to the tower. The part of the tower facing you has crumbled into ruin, spreading stone and detritus around the dismal area. From atop the destruction, two doors open gaping maws of darkness into the bright sunlight of the day. The left hand door can be seen to be almost completely choked with debris within. Through the left hand door, a few feet of clear floor disappear into the darkness within.
Cyclic |
"Should we pick through the rubble? An, probably not right now. Enough time for that later. I think we should head through the northern most room as it is in better shape."
GM DevilDoc |
Room revealed. Please place your tokens.
The northern wing of the tower seems to have escaped the worst effects of the collapse, but rubble still litters the floor and everything is covered in a thick layer of stone dust. Thick cobwebs cloak the ceiling and hang down the walls like gossamer tapestries. A single archway stands open in the southwest wall.

Black Sun sneaks into the shadows of the room, while Argor walks brazenly into the darkened room. The spiders aim is spot on, and the web smacks the man right in the chest, entangling him in sticky strands of goo.

Aerian moves in closer to the creature and fires off a shot. It gets close, but glances off of the hard carapace of the creature.
Black Sun, however, blasts the creature dead on.
The spider turns its spinnerets towards Black Sun this time, hoping to ensnare the wayang. Luckily, Black Sun is able to calmly and easily step to the side as the webbing passes.
