Baldwin the Merciful's Razor Coast: Black Spot (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

"The Black Spot" An adventure of extradimensional depravity for four to six 5th level PCs Explore the wreck of The Flying Fortune, a ship impaled on the exposed tip of an underwater mountain with a waterfall of gold coins spilling from her shattered hull. Unravel the mystery of her vanished crew—the bloodstains, the shredded decking. Discover a dank and gaping hole in the stone peak that pierces the Fortune. Is it a natural opening? Or a tunnel crafted by arcane engines? It leads down, that much is clear. Down inside a hollow, underwater mountain—all the way to the ocean floor.

Jean, Revhi, Marcus only:

When you hear fire warning you notice a flame off the Sarboard bow side of the ship but at a distance in the fog about 2 miles or so out. As quick as you saw the flame, it disappears.

With the alarm sailors rush topside, uncertain of what needs to be done. The captain is quickly on deck as well, still buttoning his faded jacket with his dueling gloves, as he moves to see the cause of this alarm.

“Fire?! Where? I see no flame!” demands the Captain.

“Not on the ship, sir. Off the starboard bow!” explains One-eyed.

“What? Where?” says the surprised Captain Riggs. The sailor points emphatically. The captain opens his spyglass, a finely made item adorned with a stylized golden eagle, and scans the horizon.

“I see nothing,” he pronounces.

Rest assured good captain, there was a flame that appeared briefly in the distance Continuing to scan off the starboard bow.

Was there any noise that accompanied the flame?

No noise.

He takes a good long look out of his spyglass and shakes his head, "Aye, it's not there now. Blasted fog. We can keep a look out." He starts to bark orders for the crew. "Let's keep a full crew up top for bit, everyone else back tot the bunks...don't need everyone tired in the morning." He paces the length of the ship, his spy glass in hand, he stops every couple feet to peer into the fog.

"So Marcus, what did you see?"

"No sound or sign of attack that good." Responding to Marcus and Revhi. He pulls up his spyglass. He barks a few more orders to the crew, "Cookie let's have some coffee up here, it's gonna be a long one. First Mate, get me a compass and drop a lead for a depth marker."

The leadsman yells out a few minutes later, "Beyond sounding sir." The Captain nods approvingly.

Beyond 100 fathoms measurement.

With both Dinetta and Jean assistance the Captain focuses, "I'll be damned. He assesses the situation, “A ship on rocks...looks like fork or something. Hmmm… there may be survivors aboard. We should investigate. This is not part of the usual duty, men, so I’ll take volunteers. The volunteers will split any salvage we find. I’ll lead the party personally."

He pauses, “I’ll not lie. This could be dangerous. Who knows what you’ll find aboard a wrecked ship here in the Razor? Mister Handerly, you’ll have command while I’m gone. So, who will join me, lads?”
The sailors look down at their shoes.

Davkas has Chatterbeak do a flyover of the ghost ship.

Simply fly over and return to me

When the captain calls for volunteers, the wizard steps forward.
I'm with you, Sir
He has his wand of Vanish in hand

Evil GM

Chatterbeak flies off into the thick mist...alone...once inside the fog his low light vision shrinks to a mere few feet.

You are still quite some distance from the ship.

"Alright then...make ready for 10 degrees starboard and into the mist. Leadman keep the sounding going." the captain walks back to the wheel and takes possession from the First Mate. "First we get a bit closer, prepare the port side jolly, get us 10 skins of water, and make sure there's an extra oar, two floats and coil of silk rope." he barks out his orders.

A few minutes later the leadman calls out, "70 fathoms Captain." Then "50 fathoms."

Evil GM

Dravkas I'll need three perception checks from Chatterbeak to use. How do communicate and at what distance? Are his stats under your profile current for AC and HP? Also what's the effect on you if he dies or worse?

"Captain...30 fathoms" It's clear that water depth is becoming more shallow and the Captain orders the sea anchor dropped. You are in the thick fog and visibility is limited...although the outline of large ship partially out of water can be seen with flicking fire near what looks like it's bow.

"Gentleman, ladies go grab your gear and meet me at the jolly, I'm going to have it lowered. We'll proceed with caution, I don't know if there another ship out there or worse hiding int he fog. There could be lives at stake." His hand rests comfortably on the cup-hilt of his rapier.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
--------------------
Alertness (Ex): While a familiar is within arm's reach, the master gains the Alertness feat.

Improved Evasion (Ex): When subjected to an attack that normally allows a Reflex saving throw for half damage, a familiar takes no damage if it makes a successful saving throw and half damage even if the saving throw fails.

Share Spells: The wizard may cast a spell with a target of “You” on his familiar (as a touch spell) instead of on himself. A wizard may cast spells on his familiar even if the spells do not normally affect creatures of the familiar's type (magical beast).

Empathic Link (Su): The master has an empathic link with his familiar to a 1 mile distance. The master can communicate empathically with the familiar, but cannot see through its eyes. Because of the link's limited nature, only general emotions can be shared. The master has the same connection to an item or place that his familiar does.

Deliver Touch Spells (Su): If the master is 3rd level or higher, a familiar can deliver touch spells for him. If the master and the familiar are in contact at the time the master casts a touch spell, he can designate his familiar as the “toucher.” The familiar can then deliver the touch spell just as the master would. As usual, if the master casts another spell before the touch is delivered, the touch spell dissipates.

Speak with Master (Ex): If the master is 5th level or higher, a familiar and the master can communicate verbally as if they were using a common language. Other creatures do not understand the communication without magical help.

As a Raven, Chatterbeak speaks common. His link with Davkas is empathic. Davkas can sense him up to a mile and feel what Chatterbeak feels but cannot see through his eyes or impart any telepathic commands. Chatterbeak has an INT of 8.

Familiar Death:

If a familiar is dismissed, lost, or dies, it can be replaced 1 week later through a specialized ritual that costs 200 gp per wizard level. The ritual takes 8 hours to complete.
