Baldwin: Did Darius not manage to uncover anything regarding potential valuable markets here?
I mentioned everything you've picked up so far. You did hear about enchanting weapons and quality, you heard about dragonsmoke, you heard about sewers needing cleaning. All have potential market value. Although nobody has stated "we need X" nor have they told you much about the businesses in town but you've only spent a small amount of time gathering info.

Ah you're right! I factored my jewelry into my purchases for bookkeeping purposes but we actually need to buy the jewelry.
Embrianna |
Ah, I didn't factor the jewelry into mine yet.
I want a complete, matched set of emerald and dark gold jewelry to match my dresses. A necklace, bracelet, ring and earrings.
Darius Rotarion |
Also already factored my jewelry purchases in, going with a "less is more" philosophy.
A couple of very nice pieces as opposed to rockin a Mr. T look.
The amulet has a ruby center set into a gold facet, it's base made to look like a dragon is coiled around it. It is on a gold chain.
The ring is also a ruby gemstone set in gold.
At least that's the image I have in mind.

Don't worry, as long as you aren't William Shatner or John Lithgow you will be fine.
Unless there are snakes on the plane.
Also, I know my husband loves me because I just made him pick a tick off my side. How the hell I got one when my two boys roll around in the grass like crazy I have no idea.

Darius a question for you regarding dazzling display: As I read the feat and some discussion on the feat it looks like you do not get an actual attack while doing your full round action of the DD which intimidates those in a 30 ft radius. Is that your interpretation, if not, do you know of a rule clarification.

Fine with me, but I'm usually on the computer all day long whether at work/school/home and refreshing every 10 minutes so I know I'm an outlier.
Speaking of school the semester is in session and I have some labs to teach. Wednesdays and Thursdays I will not be around between 6-9pm central time, though they usually don't last the full three hours.

How is the posting rate for everyone? Is anyone having trouble staying on top of the what is occurring?
I don't mind the frequency; it's the time period.
In other words, the bulk of the posting is typically done on/about during the day. Between the two jobs I work, I normally am up around 7:00 AM Eastern Standard Time and typically go to bed around 1:00 AM Eastern Standard Time.
But I'm also typically on or at work/commuting from 7:00 AM until roughly 6:00 PM. My jobs are the type of job when you're on your feet and not typically near a computer/internet access to do things for the game.
I'm good to post on/around 8:30 PM to about midnight, but I discover that the GM typically closes shop at roughly 9:00 PM Eastern Standard.
That means that (generally) I miss most of the postings, unfortunately. And when I'm around to make posts and respond to posts, typically, there isn't much going on.
There are some days when I'm around to do things during the day if I'm only working one job, or if I get off early, but these types of days don't happen frequently.
Anyway, the short answer is; I have no problem with lots of a post a day - it's just the times of the day that you guys post are generally times that I miss most of the action.
That's really my only complication.

At the risk of saying the obvious, it is good remember that sometimes it pays to ask questions to the NPCs are in front of you, they may be able fill in some gaps. A lot has happened since you've exited the ship and you've met various people: Zalen (cleric), a wizard (who seemed to know things), a tutilan being berated by a shop keeper, a tailor and his staff, the owner/operator of bathhouse and laundry, the owner and waitstaff at the Inn. They all seem to be in a position to know certain information at least from their POV. Asking some of these folks questions could provide some answers.
Astrianna Sparacello |
I'm also working on a spreadsheet that lists npcs, things they have told us, important locations, adventure hooks, etc so we can keep track of these matters.
Astrianna is not concerned about information gathering right now, and just wants to have some fun and spend coin. She will likely start poking around the next day, she's taking it easy right now.

Well David did spend four hours asking people questions about the runaway captain while the others were shopping; but that was all with Gather Information via a Diplomacy check.
However, I can do actual RP with the characters to get the information, if that's preferable, though.

Just in case we need "Little Miss Can't-Hold-Her-Liquor" during the evening- does Delay Poison/Remove Poison work on alcohol as well?
baldwin the merciful |
You can spend time gathering information from outside sources like you did. No problem there. However, don't forget to ask people you are actually dealing with questions, especially, since your group dropped some significant coin in some of those shops. What better way to get a clerk or shop owner talking than spending money. They can a source of information.

I'm not sure if ETOH is deemed a poison. I think, I've read that on the boards a while ago but feel free to research it. I would think this issue came would have been addressed during the skulls and shackles game with the grog. If it is a poison (even a mild one) the spell would work.
Darius Rotarion |
Medically speaking: it is. Alcohol, drugs, and poison are all foreign substances introduced to the body that have am effect on its functioning. Poisons just have stronger adverse reactions, namely, increased risk of death.

I just made the unfortunate discovery that Henk does not rhyme with much. My chant will need some work.
Inspire Courage is a supernatural ability they can't prove any cheating muahhahahaha.
Astrianna Sparacello |
Lol!
I got it squared away for the fight-
HENK HENK
He's gonna leave a DENT!
HENK HENK
Face's gonna get BENT!
HENK HENK
Knock 'im out COLD!
HENK HENK
And we'll be rollin' in GOLD!

1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Generally gambling works as follows:
Fighter A: Odds
Fighter B: Odds
Modern gambling, the odds can fluctuate right up to the moment of the fight, but historically, the odds were set and that was that.
So, for example, if the book is listing odds for as "15%" on a challenger bet as you noted, then the odds are essentially as follows:
Dugan: 1-1
Henk: 1.15-1
Meaning, for every Gold bet on Henk, if he won, the winner would gain 1.15 gold. If they lost, they'd lose 1 gold.
If they bet on Dugan, if he won, the winner would get 1 gold. If he lost, they would lose a gold.
So, how it would work in game would look like this if I bet on Henk:
Darius places a 100 gold bet on Henk to win. He gives the broker 100 gold. Henk wins. Broker gives Darius back 215 gold (his original bet, plus the 115 for winning the wager).
If I bet on Dugan to win, and they do, it goes like this:
Darius places a 100 gold bet on Dugan to win. He gives the broker 100 gold. Dugan wins. Broker gives Darius back 200 gold (his original bet, plus the 100 gold for winning the wager).
In either scenario, if the person Darius bet on to win lost, the Broker keeps the coin Darius had given him.
Astrianna Sparacello |
I was also understanding it in the fashion Darius posted. Your percentages for the challengers work fine, if you're comfortable with the house favorite paying out a 1:1 ratio.
In a real establishment I would assume the house favorites would have a low payout ratio because people expect the raining champs to win- the bookies want people to bet on the huge payout underdogs so when they (predictably) lose the bookies rake in the cash while paying out only a small profit to the winners who bet on the favorite that (predictably) won.

Hey friends, I finished my spreadsheet. It's a bit rough and could probably be streamlined, but it contains all the named npcs we've met/heard of so far, locations, rumors, and lore. Feel free to correct things/update stuff/ whatevers.
The spreadsheet is supposed to represent the knowledge contained in Astrianna's journal. I was originally going to delete it if her journal was ever lost or destroyed (hardcore mode), but if you guys are going to add to it/edit it as well I won't do that.

If David knew about Astrianna's Journal he'd recommend using Linguistics to create your own "secret code" so if anyone read the journal other than you, they would have to at least crack your code, first.
Meanwhile, that's awesome! Thanks for all the hard work - David will do what he can to show his appreciation next time we get a chance to meet :)

She also writes down thoughts and things that happen every day etc. She could write it in code but instead writes it in Elven, 'cause it's pretty and fun. It's an abstraction and all that.

And Elvish is very poetic, too :)
