Baldwin the Merciful's: Razor Coast (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

The Razor Coast has drawn men to madness and slaughter since the world was young. Tulita natives, born from the same fire as this jagged coast, claim the Razor existed long before the world’s other lands. It is a crucible of flame cooled by the ocean’s caress and its mountains, reefs, and lightless depths teem with as many terrors as lustrous spoils. The Razor bucks the trappings of civilization in much the same manner the storm-tossed sea spurns the men who dare mount her. This is no place for the weak-willed. Untested souls are food for its storms, its fickle gods, its ancient spirits, and the evil predations of unfathomable creatures. No less dangerous are the men who make the coast their home and whose dark desires put most horrors to shame.

Whew. That was all done in one sitting. STR Ranger Here.

Apologies all, but I just couldn't get the inquisitor to work.

I have settled on a Kensai Magus, loosely based on the fighting style of Prince Nuada from Hellboy 2. (The scene where he kills his dad)

DM:
I know you said Eastern Gear would be expensive, so I bought my own Katana, which my Arcane Pool can enchant. I am wearing a Haramaki which is the same as an Armored Kilt stat wise

See the Avatar for full write up (His familiar stat block is incomplete but besides that he is done!)

Adriel grew in the Scar Thicket, near the Whisperwood the son of a local Alchemist. His father would often go to the woods for supplies and it was there he met Adriel's mother a reclusive druid who almost never interacted with the town but, in this case reached out to another elf.
The result of this romantic tryst would be a son.
Raised largely in the woods but occasionally visiting his father Adriel grew up with alot of confusion between the divine calling of his mother and the arcane discoveries his father had made. Lost with wonder at the two kinds of magic and often in his 'hazes' from smoking the plant from witch he draws his last name. It was during one of his smoke induced episodes he became almost comatose and the voice spoke to him.
The message was hazy, insistent. But it warned him of his mother and fathers deaths at the hands of the Lemure's who were ambushing them right NOW. Suddenly wide awake and with the realisation of real danger, he grabbed his mothers bow and father's scimitar and ran to their meeting place to find the deed done and 2 low devils desecrating their bodies. That was when his patron actually screamed his name for the first time. He doesn't remember what happened or how he did it, but when the haze withdrew the Lemures were dead. Now, confused and for the first time without a family, Adriel gathered what wealth and magic he could from his father's home and bought his way into an apprenticeship with a Mage who has a propensity for drinking and smoking and woman greater than even Adriel's own. In truth this was a blessing as well as a curse, for the Human was a failed Eldritch Knight who had lost his retainer and was more than happy to teach the young elf to survive while they spent what remained of his parents wealth. The instruction was was fun while the money lasted and the drink and whores dulled the pain the young Magus was avoiding dealing with. Separated from his master on good terms and with the promise to come back more of a man than his teacher, he gave in to his Wanderlust, his talents keeping him alive and in coin and women. The patron speaks to him now and then, of rights and wrongs and justice. Adriel tries hard to ignore the voices but cannot ignore a cry for help or killing a goblin, should he cross one. Now he finds himself aboard a ship bound for who cares where, honestly? It is the promise of a new world, of adventure and wine and women and (hopefully) a new future. But he understands the world is full of dangers, and he would enjoy life as much as he could until he died.

Adriel, you need to say whether or not you look like the Huntsman. ;)

Sorry Embrianna.

This guy is a plain elf with an angry red scar down his cheek

This campaign sounds awesome with the level of engagement. Unfortunately I don't think I can keep up with a US based game doing 5-6 posts per day (I'm in the wrong timezone), although 2-3 would have been OK.

/sigh

Sadly, real life has precluded me from getting anything but the most basic crunch done on my character so far, so I will have to withdraw. This looks like a great campaign - good luck everyone!

Baldwin:
I forgot to mention: If you look at the breakdown for my attributes, you'll see that I had a Wis of 8, prior to racial adjustments, which brought it to 10. Since your requirements mentioned that was not allowed, but I thought that you meant it about dropping it further than 8 because of racial adjustment, so I went ahead and did it.

If you prefer otherwise, I don't mind making the adjustment. I'll probably do Wis 10+2 and Chr 10-2.

Bad-Luck Baldek:

Thanks for pointing that out. I'd prefer if you make the adjustment so everything is consistent all the players.

FangDragon and Fighting Chicken thanks for updating me, I do appreciate the communication.

Baldwin:
Done!

GM:
I'm assuming this is the case, but I just wanted to post for official guidance. The level of warrior does not count when calculating the abilities of my animal companion, correct? My current profile shows a level five leopard, but I have already updated it in my notes and will post the change once I complete the fluff portion of my character.

Whole and complete now.

Rata Fenn:
Correct the NPC level does not count towards animal companion, nor does it count towards your feat progression. You not a 5 level character getting the 5th level feat bonus. The NPC level is simply a way to give the characters more HPs, skills, save, and BAB.

GM:
Got it, thank you.

a rather long list of applicants :)

An unbelievably long list. I was quite please that most of those that expressed interest submitted a character or advised they were withdrawing from consideration. Good communication etiquette.

Hey, that just means you could run 3-4 separate instances of Razor Coast ... right? Right!?

For a fleeting moment I thought about two teams but then I came to my senses.

I mentioned this the other day, but I thought I'd repost it.

Regarding the posting frequency I don't want to scare folks off but it can be rapid at times. You take a day or two off from looking at the boards and the numbers pile up. The COT game had some insane posting rates but that's why its the second highest posted in PbP game on these boards. Second only to a mass player game. However, the rate in this game will be lighter (I think) and should resemble my Rappan Athuk game which has 6200 posts in 15 months of time.

Come now, a DM that's a little out of his senses sounds like great fun.

I'm always up for improving my chances of getting in. You said it would be sandboxy and it might be interesting to see where each group goes.

We lost someone at work and I've been picking up their hours( I work at a small coffee shop) So this has been a hectic week.

I still have one more day to see about completing Zordlon. I closed tonight and have to open in the morning but i should be able to get some work done on him early( it's pretty slow until lunchtime usually)

Anyway, still around, but It may be a mad-dash to see if I do squeeze in.

NP, the recruitment stays open until July 9th, 10:00 pm.

Alright got the crunch together. Going to put up the background etc tomorrow at work.

I did have one question. For a Wizard would I get to have any extra spells in my spellbook assuming that I would have spent the last 4 levels with possible access to other spellbooks/scrolls?

Second, for our gear can I have scribed scrolls? Basically would cut the cost in half for the scrolls I have available so not sure if this is viable or not. Set some money aside in case it is allowed.

HP-Lvl2: 1d6 ⇒ 2
HP-Lvl3: 1d6 ⇒ 6
HP-Lvl4: 1d6 ⇒ 4

there are not that many arcane caster that is a first :)

So still one more day to wait. Good luck to everyone ....

What time zone is that 10pm? Just wondering.

Ahmad El Hakim wrote:

Eastern (EDT, GMT -4)

E'sha:

Regarding your questions: I'm not going to give extra spells at this point, if selected, we can revisit this issue. There are going to be a few DM boons provided. Otherwise applicants will want stuff they've gathered for for 4 levels of adventuring.

As far as creating your own scrolls with the funds provided I'm fine with that.

[dice=HP-Lvl2]1d6
[dice=HP-Lvl3]1d6
[dice=HP-Lvl4]1d6

You have 4 char levels and 1 NPC level.

5 total and 1 maxed. You need to roll again

Max HP for NPC level 1
Max HP for class level 1,
Then roll for class levels 2,3, and 4.
Reroll any 1's if you get one.

Right.

HP Level 2-3-4: 3d8 ⇒ (4, 8, 8) = 20 last post by the DM made me realize i forgot to roll mine...

Rata is finally complete. Let me know if you have any questions regarding his crunch/fluff/favorite color. Quite the list of stellar applicants. Good luck, everyone.

GM:
Makes sense. Assuming my chances are lower to get in being that you already have a witch and Magus but I liked the concept. In either case, if accepted I will finish out the scrolls I have scribed likely tonight.

There is still four and a half hours to get a character presented before the close of recruitment. After I review any late applicant(s) I will announce the selected characters. The discussion and game thread will immediately be up and running.

Indeed, and a good luck to everybody from me as well.

"Glory or Insanity Await?" :)

One does not preclude the other...

GM - is it too late to swap the level 0 Class of Expert with Warrior? Essentially the same concept, it would just adjust some skills and the BAB and starting HP by +2.

If you're up with it, I'll make the adjustment. If you'd rather I not change it, that's okay, too.

I've already reviewed the characters submitted so far, I'd rather you wait and make the changes if you are selected. Those selected can make some tweaks in the discussion thread.

Sounds good.

I'm eager to see how things turn out and I hope to make the cut, but I guess I'll find out soon enough :)

I'll be eagerly refreshing all night! Good luck everyone!

Soon...

This was an incredible turn out for this campaign I thank everyone for applying. There were many veterans PbP gamers and a nice assortment of relatively new posters. I decided to take six members on the journey, those players are:

Arcane:
Adriel Mistleaf (aka STR Ranger) - Kensai magus
Embrianna (aka Joy)- witch

Divine:
- Sath Saltblood (aka fddaury) - H/E, expert/druid (aquatic)

Melee:
- Darius Rotarion (aka Thron) - Human Aris/Fighter

Hybrid jack of all trades:

- David "The Dirk" Hawkins (aka Dain) - Human expert bard(arch)/ranger(freebooter)

Skilled:
- Astrianna Sparacello (aka Galorit)H/E, Aristocrat/Bard

The discussion thread and game thread are open.
