Baldwin the Merciful's: Razor Coast (Inactive)

Game Master baldwin the merciful

The Razor Coast has drawn men to madness and slaughter since the world was young. Tulita natives, born from the same fire as this jagged coast, claim the Razor existed long before the world’s other lands. It is a crucible of flame cooled by the ocean’s caress and its mountains, reefs, and lightless depths teem with as many terrors as lustrous spoils. The Razor bucks the trappings of civilization in much the same manner the storm-tossed sea spurns the men who dare mount her. This is no place for the weak-willed. Untested souls are food for its storms, its fickle gods, its ancient spirits, and the evil predations of unfathomable creatures. No less dangerous are the men who make the coast their home and whose dark desires put most horrors to shame.

I will watch about anything with Zombies or werewolves in it, most vampire movies, stuff with random monsters (Grabbers was funny and is on Netflix), movies about bigfoot and yeti's, comic book movies (I totally need to see Guardians of the Galaxy), and any paranormal/ghost type movies.

I will not watch most movies about alien abduction type stuff though since it freaks me the f+*# out. I had to turn off Fire in the Sky partway through. The grey type aliens are creepy as f$&$ to me.

I am also scared of clowns, though did manage to watch "Killer Clowns from Outer Space", but Tim Curry from "It" was creepy as all get out as the clown Pennywise.

Evil GM

David should be on the lookout for visit? Ha

Evil GM

The new miniseries "Penny Dreadful" on Showtime was pretty good this year. I watched that series after midnight to set the mood.

Just to clarify
In most cases, if you don't discharge a touch spell on the round you cast it, you can hold the charge (postpone the discharge of the spell) indefinitely. You can make touch attacks round after round until the spell is discharged. If you cast another spell, the touch spell dissipates.

Some touch spells allow you to touch multiple targets as part of the spell. You can't hold the charge of such a spell; you must touch all targets of the spell in the same round that you finish casting the spell.

You're telling the GM that likes horror what you're scared of? I'm sure not telling him.

I should think of what Astrianna is afraid of though, other than what I've already admitted (fear of being trapped/subjugated). Ducks? Maybe a crippling phobia of ducks.

Ha. Supposedly anatidaephobia is the fear that no matter where you go, or what you're doing, a duck is watching you.

That is my understanding but honestly I haven't' held a touch spell for long. I have not researched this issue.

Speaking of good horror movies, I felt this was appropriate – given the fact that we’re in a nautical adventure.

Great Trailer

Meanwhile - given the way things are going, I think this is going to be David's new theme song in a little bit in this game (Inspired by Embrianna's mentioning Smallville in her earlier post ;)

Alternate Theme Song.

I have two songs on my Profile, though - they're actually more in keeping with the character's mood and personality generally. But everything on this ship made me say that I need a new song - at least, temporarily...

Then Bri would figure the powder was for dark skinned women?

Evil GM

Remember gunpowder, cannon, weapons are very rare. So you all would not know about it. This module was written with it in so I kept it as a way you could learn about those items. I'm still undecided if gunpowder will have a role in the game. I'm more sword and sorcery than guns wiht my gaming.

This adventure is only Lv 1. I did overhaul most of creatures involved more to my liking and to make it more challenging when you all actually get in combat. I also added the sea fog and few other touches for the creepiness.

CN Female Half-elf Iconic Envoy 13| Sp: 104/104 | Hp 78/78 | RP: 8/13 | EAC: 23 , KAC: 24 | Fort +9, Ref +13, Will +12 (+14 vs enchantment) | Init: +4 | Percep: +19, 12 Metron darkvision | Conditions:

I'm perfectly happy having our character ignorant of firearms or the like, having gunpowder introduced to the game (Astrianna would love a pistol when she figured them out), or just sticking with regular swords and sorcery.

On a personal note, I don't see much difference between a gun and a magic item that propels wildy inaccurate bolts of force that has to be recharged between shots, other than the romance that tends to be attached to firearms that in ages past was attached to swords.

Arthur C. Clark's third law: Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

On that note, I need to name Astrianna's sword, because I forgot to.

Also- This is a lot of fun, I'm enjoying this adventure and the additions you've put in, Baldwin. The sanity rules are also really neat, I've never played with anything like that before.

Evil GM

The sanity is part of actual adventure but I've played several adventures with different variations. I scaled back what this adventure actually calls for. It can be fun but it often makes folks uncomfortable if they lose control over every action. I do like pushing the challenge envelop and mixing things up, if I can.

Male Human Bard: Arch/Ranger: Trap/Free -- Fort +6 Ref +10 Will +5 Ini +4 Per +11, AC: 20 HP: 56: 56 Uncanny Dodge

I'm perfectly happy to have cannon, pistol and muskets in the game as well. I'm not asking for "Advanced Firearms" though something like flintlocks seem reasonable, but that's up to the GM.

The only reason I'm eager for the gunpowder element in general is because I feel like it effects the entire style of the game.

From what I've read about the evolution of cannon and sail generally the entire design/dimensions of most sailing ships were completely redone when cannon was used on ships. Prior to cannon you could simply use ships like Triemes, Briemes and the Viking style Longboat (which is basically the same thing, only with one deck).

While swivel guns, bowchasers, and so on could be used on the main deck, most cannon were generally were kept below to avoid issues with weather (though some ships did keep them on the main deck, generally they didn't have multiple decks below, so below is where they stored cargo). Also, there was really no reason to build multiple decks on a ship for storage when you could simply build longer ships (multiple decks really effect how the keel is designed) and was generally more challenging for shipbuilding.

Because of things like gun stations and gun ports and so on you'd need at least one deck (be it mid deck or main deck) that allowed the cannon to be fired that was as free of space in between the cannon. So you'd have to store cargo either below or above the deck with the cannon, because if the ship heaved to the side the cargo could slide right into your cannon.

In short, from a logical perspective, ships of the line, galleons, frigates, caravel's and merchantmen type vessels wouldn't really need to exist in favor of trieme style design.

Having pirates with muskets, cannon and flintlock pistols just seemed like a normal thing to me. But it also seemed consistent with history and so on.

It's just my opinion, but I like stories (even fantasy ones) that have a certain consistency with historical elements because it feels more "real" to me. That's why I keep writing the Varisians as a combo of Celtic Gaelic pirate types (except for the Shoanti, I see them as Viking) from roughly the 8th century; the Cheliax types I see as a combo of Italian/Spanish of the 14th century (in which the Holy Roman Empire was ironically replaced by a LE group of diabolists),and I'm seeing The Razor kind of like Tartuga in the 16th century. It helps me when I come up with names and concepts.

Anyhow, sorry for the side-track, I was just trying to explain my thought process is all. Of course, this is up to the GM - I'll go with what he decides, it is his game, after all :)

Meantime, I haven't even seen the main boards yet - I just got home from work, and I'm probably already dead - but I guess I'll just have to see ;)
