Oh snap. What happened? TPKs can get rough at high level. Gotta create and equip, and since everyone is 1 leel below you need to kick around in side adventures. Knew one fellow who had 3 TPKs in Shackled City and they hung the adventure up beacause they were so far behind the curve and ran out of adventures.

This was a Deadlands basic roleplay game. We were a bunch of gunslingers, playing the campaign about a year and half, or so. We stumbled upon a vampire lair and all hell broke out.
I had an orc gunslnger, whose favorite weapon was dynamite and a gatlin gun shotgun that never emptied (it magically sucked everyone else's shotgun shells up and made them duds.) Pretty no nosense badass.
Well we had to improvise weapons...stakes, I used my shovel to kill the a few vampires. Quiet difficult because we needed called shots which made it very hard to hit. The vampires took down two of five the party members and severely injuring two others. Most the party, except my character, was near death or incapacitated. So my character simply ignited the remaining dynamite he was wearing and grappled the baddie then Kaboom. Setting off a chain reaction of other explosions. Turned out to be a TPK.

Just so you guys now, Sunday is a serious game day, usually is. I will disappear for HOURS in the evening with no chance to post...I am GM for that game. We tend to run near to 8 hours with maybe one or two ten minute breaks...usually while I'm setting up stages. So yeah, you will hear from between noon to 3pm and then no more until Monday. Just how Sundays work for me. Sorry for any inconvenience.
I expect when I check in next there will be like a hundred posts to go through I rekon.

Expect 176 posts mostly actions directed at Kenji. I was going to go to the new Snow White movie today around noon but I'll go after 3:00 pm, that should help out some of the GM posting.
I will try to keep the posting this evening a down a bit.
Shinon |
I also have a game today, which I am leaving for now. And then I have to go to a restaurant to speak with the hiring manager about scheduling an interview. No idea how long that will take. I should be done and back here around 6 PM Central, but it might go longer than that.
Shinon |
So what were the results of my gather information check. I got and 18 and with my charisma score I'd rather not roll again.
...Wait. Gather Information isn't a skill in Pathfinder.

176!!!! Good gravy!! How will I ever catch up after that!?!

I caught something from Shinon and had a headache, so I passed out for a few hours.
*Starts typing up huge post about making out with the halfling*
*grins* My bad! Anyway, let's go get some horses. As a side note, Favored Enemy is so great in Pathfinder. All those delicious skill bonuses.

Shinon, just so we can get our ducks in a row, are you fine with checking stream depth and if we can still use the flaming oil as a potential blockade?
If I am to use my fear spell against the commander, I need to be within 30 ft (25 ft +5 ft for 2nd level) If he fails, he will flee for 1d4 rounds or be shaken for 1 round. So I may very well need someone to go with me so I am not cut down in any event.
If shooting is too much a hinderance due to rain, you will probably need to go HtH. I have 2 healing spells and can use guidance and virtue to give you a temporary increase to your attack rolls and HP
1.Guidance gives +1 to attack/saving throw/skill roll for one minute or until used. I can cast it again if needed.
2.Virtue gives 1 temp HP for 1 minute.
So if we shoot, I can keep tapping you with guidance(I'll reach up and slap your foot if you are in a tree ;)
If we need to go HtH, I'll stick close and guard your flank. We should concentrate fire since one less enemy means one less attack.
Sigh..If only the wizard showed up.

Too tired to do anything. Today the worst day ever. I will update my character in the morning and answer those questions.
P.S. I vote to keep a five person party. Six folks would be too much. Plus were awesome enough without a wizard anyways.

Group and GM opinion's?
Twigs is in my 2nd darkness campaign and would keep up as much as me.
I find not having some sort of arcane caster really limits your outside the box options, but that may just be my experience.
Andrea1 |
We can get baldwin's opinons. I am somewhat hopeful that it can help by having a wizard. We would need to tighten up I think, perhaps have a party spokesperson? Or keep the IC section neater by posting ooc stuff here? Hmm. Not sure how we can help keep things speedy with a large group.
Guess I'm kinda nervous about the upcoming fight. We are a bit split-party since we will be on oppisite sides and 15+leaders is pretty big.
Duncan Redhammer |
I agree. Nothing like a good Haste or slow spell to turn the tide of a fight.
My only concern would be another player keeping up with the posts. We are managing a cracking pace and I'd like to maintain that.
baldwin the merciful |
Initially I invited all 6 players appkicants to the thread rather than eliminate one or two. It always stinks being the odd person out on those selections. The game as moved at a steady pace with five people which I like. I'm in two games right now that have slowed down considerably, which hurts momentum. With a 6th person it will slow down the flow. Not having an arcane caster can hurt but it can also make the party be more creative. We will stay at 5 PC's for the time being.
Shinon |
I think of a group with an arcane caster as being on "easy mode". That said, Council of Thieves is nowhere near as fun without a bard in the group that has Perform (Act), right? I would be open to the idea of an arcane caster joining if he was a bard.
I believe the penalties for shooting into the rain are -4, right? So then, actually, I'm still better at shooting then I am in melee, so Andrea is more than welcome to sit near me and buff me every round. I don't suppose you have bless, Andrea? That would certainly help since it would buff the entire group. If we have 2 minutes, though, after the first minute has passed, it might be a good idea for you to go around and guidance/virtue the entire party (would take you 8 rounds, or 10 if you include yourself, which is exactly one minute).
Andrea1 |
Don't have bless and we will probably be too spread out for me to run around pinging for +1. Better to buff you. A -2 to hit (Magic weapon adds one guidance adds one) isn't as bad as the -4

Correct, penalties for shooting into rain are minus 4. The same as effect as severe wind.
There is no reason why indiviudal players can't take Perform "Act", its not an optimized build (don't get the +3 class skill bonus) but it adds to the creativity and fun. To add a bard at this point seems like it would be metagaming.

Adding a rank in Perform (Act) to your character when it does not fit the character's backstory or personality at all is another type of metagaming. I don't think any of our characters in the party have any theater in their personalities or their backstories, no reason for us to have any ranks in Perform (Act) other than the purely meta ones of "It's going to come up later".

@ John- Thanks...good job. Looks like the south side of the road is bit underdefended. Evil laughter. How did you drop the avatars on the map?
@ Shinon - how would you even know about a bard's performance being a good fit? From my POV the party is what it is, play the hand and have fun. It is rarely a challenge if PCs have an ideal character for every situation. A party can attempt to learn through gathering information and make adjustments thereafter based on the knowledge they have gathered.
