Thx!

Just as a heads up - I made a post about increasing the functionality of the Class/Level field to make it easier for PbP's. By all means favorite it, stop on by and comment and spread the link. Would make things much better for all of us... Maybe not the coders though... ;)

Tessa's last post was Tuesday the 7th. Want to PM her GM?

I shall have to. Everyone else, carry on.

Rune actually posted under his main on Monday:

"Sorry folks, mum has been terribly ill and I've been running errands and working around the house. Things have been hectic as hell around here, but I'll try to get back on the daily postings."

This was another PBP that he is in, I believe, so it sounds like something tied him up. Hopefully as things wind up with that issue he will make his way back here...

Real sorry folks, it's been a somewhat tiresome couple of weeks. My mother got dengue fever (I don't know what it's called in the US) around new year's and is just getting back on her feet. I'll get to posting :)

Male Sun Elf Mage 1/Fighter 1

Sorry everyone, heavily involved with work and tax returns (I'm helping my parents with theirs too). May not be available until Wednesday.

Just to doublecheck, is everyone still having fun and enjoying? Sorry the pace got kinda slow there for a couple days, should be back on track now. Any criticisms, or things people would like to see?

I'm having a.good timejust dont want to.go.in there LOL

Male Sun Elf Mage 1/Fighter 1

Lol, yeah, holding back here too. Waiting to see what happens. :P Self preservation mode has kicked in.

I'm actually finding 5e a little blaaaargh. Spamming thunder wave constantly is ok, but I don't see a whole lot of juicy options even at later levels in any of the classes, and I'm not sure that the advantage/disadvantage mechanic isn't just a fancy way to make everything way too simple. There seems to be a lack of true grit in the system as this play test packet exists now Maybe later the ruleset will be more interesting.

But I'm happy playing for now. Kemek is fun.

Yah simple, and I can see the appeal for certain kinds of groups. Especially at a table where task resolution can bog a game down. So groups like mine in the past where we didn't have a lot of game time and had players that weren't super rules savvy.

Funny enough I was thinking that 3.0/3.5/PF game in some ways are more fun for me on PBP because I have time to contemplate the myriad complicated interactions but on the other hand I feel a sense of almost "panic" in these NEXT games as I struggle to think "what can I do next?"

Well...that certainly does not sound good for the future of this game!

Well for my part I am talking system appeal, i'm liking the game itself, the setting characters etc. so no issue here.

More like i'm talking about a sense of missing somethibg in an options sense. Guess I have to.go back to using my imagination. Heresy!

Lol imagination? Grognards dont need no stinking imagination!

To be fair, we're playing with a playtest still. So a big part of the lack of options is that.

I personally really like the Advantage/Disadvantage mechanic. It streamlines play immensely. I've given playtests in RL and I find that the system is easy to pick up for folks who've never played an RPG before. DMing is also easy.

I think Next will end up as a great way to expand the hobby to new players.

Gonna have to agree Rasp. I believe we are waiting on Tessa and Qorin.

Male Sun Elf Mage 1/Fighter 1

I'm actually finding this ray of frost cantrip to be extremely useful, so I'm glad that spellcasters are now no longer reduced to dealing 1d3 or 1d4 damage when their spells run out. That being said, is it too useful? Limited range, so not really.

Male Gondsman Druid 1, HP 8/3; AC 12; Init +1, Greatclub +2 [1d8+2] or Spear +2 [1d6+2/1d8+2] or Dagger +2 [1d6+2]; Spd 30ft; Str +2; Dex +1; Con +2; Int +0; Wis +1 (+2 for saves); Cha -2.

You get my PM GM?

I did and responded. Just to throw it out there, and by no means does this indicate I am not pleased with the system or going to end the game, but I would be willing to switch this to Pathfinder if most players want to. Again, I like DnD Next, and enjoy the rule system, but I understand if you all would prefer Pathfinder. So, it is entirely player choice.

Kemek:

This decision will impact whether we do what you suggested, or another course of action.

I'm easy. I quite like the way Next plays, but I'm also a fan of PF.

Male Gondsman Druid 1, HP 8/3; AC 12; Init +1, Greatclub +2 [1d8+2] or Spear +2 [1d6+2/1d8+2] or Dagger +2 [1d6+2]; Spd 30ft; Str +2; Dex +1; Con +2; Int +0; Wis +1 (+2 for saves); Cha -2.

Look, I think Rasp and Qorin/DM Nerk are obviously quite happy with Next/5e.

It just isn't quite catching my imagination - I've been playing versions of this game since about 1984 - I'm not finding the simplicity of the current playtest exciting or engaging. Truly, I find the advantage/disadvantage mechanic to be a lowest common denominator-friendly retrograde step.

Don't change systems on my account - I'll hang around either way...

Damn, two 3s in a row?

Male Half-Orc Wizard (Far Traveler)/1, HP: 10/10, AC: 12(15) , Saves: INT +5, WIS +3, Initiative: +2, Perception: +3 Spell Save: 12, Spell Attack Modifier: +4, Cantrips: Fire Bolt, Mending, Minor Illusion,

I'll concede that my interest tacks towards PF, I'm content with only running NEXT through its paces in one game but I also note that my character concept as is is a little rough in PF mostly because I lose dex to damage but I can get by.

Anyway, like OSW I will be here either way so consider mine a half vote? LOL

Although I do like the Forgotten Realms very much and would keep on playing regardless of system, I'd also like to see 5e in action. I'd prefer that we keep going on Next but would happily play on Pathfinder.

I also recognize that I don't have as much invested in this game as you guys since I just came in, so I'd rather withdraw my "vote" and let you guys decide.

Quick update, I am still here! So do not fear, game is still going strong. Evidentally I either did not hit submit or it got ate Saturday night, as I thought a post was up. But, I was wrong. So ill post the summary of what happened and we shall carry on!

Male Gondsman Druid 1, HP 8/3; AC 12; Init +1, Greatclub +2 [1d8+2] or Spear +2 [1d6+2/1d8+2] or Dagger +2 [1d6+2]; Spd 30ft; Str +2; Dex +1; Con +2; Int +0; Wis +1 (+2 for saves); Cha -2.

Thx for the headsup GM!

Male Sun Elf Mage 1/Fighter 1

Would anyone be interested in playing a "less-structured" Arcana Evolved game with a slightly modified skill system?

Sadly I'm downsizing PbP's a little. Otherwise I'd love to.
I do love the books, even if I only have the Compiled book of Experimental Might.

How would you categorise Arcana Evolved - a mutation of 3.5?

Male Sun Elf Mage 1/Fighter 1

It was actually released before 3.5, at least Arcana Unearthed (its predecessor) was. I would say it is slightly more story focused than 3rd edition altogether, which has led many to call it 3.75.

I would allow a few classes from Iron Heroes. (It's rumored that Iron Heroes and Arcana Evolved were the predecessors of 4th edition, but so far I don't see the connection).

I'm changing the skill system just slightly because I think its the most boring part of 3rd edition. :P

Sadly I'm on the same spot as Kemek. Not headless, of course, but trying to cut back on PBPs. I can barely update the ones I do have.

Also note to self: Never try to rhyme at 3:26 am again.

Male Half-Orc Wizard (Far Traveler)/1, HP: 10/10, AC: 12(15) , Saves: INT +5, WIS +3, Initiative: +2, Perception: +3 Spell Save: 12, Spell Attack Modifier: +4, Cantrips: Fire Bolt, Mending, Minor Illusion,

Yeah I am a bit at tipping point with PBPs but I appreciate the offer.

Battleaxe (+5 to hit, 1d8+3 damage Versatile 1d10) 5 Javelins (+5 to hit, 1d6+3 damage 30/120)

Never looked at Arcana Evolved or the other one. Probably too much on my plate to learn a new system at this point.

Male Sun Elf Mage 1/Fighter 1

It's cool. If you ever do get a chance to look at it, I highly recommend it. It is an amazingly story-focused ruleset.

Hey, DM, I believe we're rolling for HP, right?

HP: 1d6 ⇒ 5

Oh, thank Jeebus. If I had rolled a 1 I think I might have gone nuts. I'll update later.

Roll or take half plus one. Obviously you have to choose first.

Male Sun Elf Mage 1/Fighter 1

Give me a moment here to level. I know I wanted to multiclass.

No prob, gonna give everyone the night to get updated and continue tomorrow.

Male Sun Elf Mage 1/Fighter 1

Okay, I think I did that right. Also, could you remind me again how much he was hit for before?

I want to multiclass...but I can't...whoops

None of this "amazing super stats like Ridel" thing going on ;p

I'll not take the chance on HP, half +1 (6) it is!

So does Kemek's body get a separate alias too? The people demand to know!

Alas Kemek's body is so much scrap metal, lignin and ooze.

Tessa dont forget to update your nameplate thing where it shows your stats.

It feels really weird to level up a main combat character without getting a +1 on my attacks. Like, I've gone back and checked the PDF enough times that I'm making this post mostly to say to myself "No, you don't get a +1 on your attacks. Stop looking."

Haha yea its different. Im playing a evil lvl 3 paladin on sundays and I keep secondguessing my attack and damage rolls. Im uses to melees with massive numbers from Pathfinder.

Male Sun Elf Mage 1/Fighter 1

Well it helps when you realize the max proficiency bonus is +6 at 20th level or something like that. :P
