Male Dwarf Ancestral Steward (Fighter) 2; 17/21 HP; +4 Init, +6 Percpt; AC 19, Touch 12, FF 17; +5 Fort, +2 Ref, +1 Will

Ergas keeps close watch only a pace or two behind Rheynold. "What did they say? Looks like they're coming this way, mate." He whispers. He grips his axe tightly now, growing wary of this plan...

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya raises her pistol, still loaded from the previous encounter, as well. Friend or Foe? she asks Rheynold urgently.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Iron Sprocket replies, "They believe us foes. I will try to reason with them, but be ready to fight." He continues,

Terran:
I assure you, I do not intend to enslave you. I learned your language to aid another colony of your kind what now seems like a lifetime ago near my true home which now seems so distant. I mean you no harm, but I cannot promise none will come to you if you do decide to attack us or the people we came here to aid.

Should I roll diplomacy?

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Cha roll Rheynold: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6

Terran:
"LIES" "DECEPTION"

A series of loud cracking noises are heard as two figures charge. One seems to be the elemental from earlier, while the other looks as if it is obsidian itself.

Round One: Jenya and Tamayra now acting.

The two elementals are within 30 feet. They receive partial cover (+2 to AC and a +1 bonus on Ref sv.) from the rocks, which they are currently behind. Similarly, the dust from the rock obscures vision (treat as dim light, 20% miss chance) in a 20 ft. radius.

DM Only:
Jenya, Tamayra, Magma Elmental (HP 5/15), Obsidian Elmental (HP 6/6), Rheynold, & Ergas.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

I don't think it worked Jenya shouts as the elementals charge. She aims and fires at the magma elemental seeking to put it down for good.

Point blank shot on touch with up close and deadly: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 161d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 21d6 ⇒ 5

Will let you roll miss chance if required Lareg as I'm not sure where the 20 feet of cloud is located.

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

Tamayra takes a deep breath, an eerie calm falling upon her as she accesses her crystal, calling upon the expertise of those who have hunted in these tunnels for centuries (Ancestral Focus:+2 att/damage)as she targets the Obsidian elemental.

With icy calm she pulls the trigger, the comforting recoil and familiar roar of her musket sending her intention riding a well placed metal ball.

1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 2 = 20
1d12 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

A sudden flash of magma follows the crushing sound of a projectile impacting stone. Just as suddenly the fire light dims. The second shot is heard ricocheting off the fallen rock.

DM Only:
1d100 ⇒ 731d100 ⇒ 4Jenya, Tamayra, Magma Elmental (dead), Obsidian Elmental (HP 6/6), Rheynold, & Ergas.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The obsidian elemental charges beyond the cover of the rocks, clawing (1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 = 15) at Rheynold. Small rock like claws glance harmlessly against his scale mail.

Round One: Rheynold and Eragas now acting.

Male Dwarf Ancestral Steward (Fighter) 2; 17/21 HP; +4 Init, +6 Percpt; AC 19, Touch 12, FF 17; +5 Fort, +2 Ref, +1 Will

"Get OFF 'im!" Ergas's face turns red with fury and sweat as he screams. He slides into position next to Rheynold, swimming full-force with his waraxe at the elemental.
Dwarven Waraxe Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Terran:
"I told you I could promise you no safety if you attacked. I'm sorry."

Rheynold draws his morningstar and swings with full force.

Morningstar w/ Power Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d8 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

I assume it has been > 1 min, so bless is gone.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

As Rheynold's morningstar slams into the elemental it explodes into a cloud of razor sharp bits of obsidian. (2d6 ⇒ (6, 5) = 11 damage to Ergas and Rheynold, Ref. Sv: 10 for half damage.)

From behind you hear footsteps approaching quickly, with a quick glance it is clear the guard has arrived to investigate the situation after receiving word from Tairn. The frontmost guard slows and salutes. "Hail. What has happened here?"

Combat has ended.

Male Dwarf Ancestral Steward (Fighter) 2; 17/21 HP; +4 Init, +6 Percpt; AC 19, Touch 12, FF 17; +5 Fort, +2 Ref, +1 Will

Reflex Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21

Male Dwarf Ancestral Steward (Fighter) 2; 17/21 HP; +4 Init, +6 Percpt; AC 19, Touch 12, FF 17; +5 Fort, +2 Ref, +1 Will

Ergas quickly raises his shield as the second he see's Rheynold's weapon crack the elemental's obsidian shell. However, his shield alone is not enough to completely spare him from the mighty blast and he takes various scrapes and bruises from the flying chunks of obsidian around him.

Made Reflex save for 1/2 damage. Updated loss of 6 HP.

He calls out to the guard behind him. "Elementals in the corridor! And it sounds like this isn't the last of them. Rheynold, why did they think us foes? Is this nothing but a turf war, we are waging?"

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

"Two types as well, Magama and what appears to be Obsidian. They tried to disable the cart, so it looks like they want to gain control of the corridors." Tamayra chimes in while reloading her musket.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

The corridor is clear up to here for now. How deep do the repairs need to go?

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Reflex Save: 1d20 ⇒ 3

Upon smashing the elemental into pieces, Iron Sprocket is unable to control his momentum in time to avoid the shards that splinter off.

I'm not sure what happens to the Symbiont when falling unconscious host-wise, so leaving the consequences up to you Lareg. HP updated.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

As Rheynold slowly slumps over, Jenya breaks away from the conversation and rushes to him. By the blasted sands! We need healing! Rheynold is down

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Rheynold is stable and regains 1 hp / round until he is conscious, which means he will be at 1 hp after just two rounds (we'll call it 30 seconds) so it simply appears as if Rheynold was knocked out after being swept off his feet after the explosion of obsidian shards.

The guard notices the situation, but seeing Rheynold come to seems satisfied, "The fall must have knocked him out for a moment. Addressing Rhynold, Will you be ok with some rest? Looking back to the group. We cannot permit repairs to continue until this opening is investigated. I will dispatch an update to the elders immediately. I would suggest you all rest and if you can keep guard with us here." With a nod the guard sends off one of his fellows toward the corridor exit.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

"I think I will be fine" Iron Sprocket says to the guard. He continues, "the elementals believe that we are heading into what they call the 'Vent'. I tried to reason with them, so I don't know why they felt threatened by what I said."

Already wary of the behaviour of some of the city's higher-ups with regards to Symbionts, Iron Sprocket decides to keep the whole enslavement issue to himself until he can investigate further, lest the enslaver doesn't want anyone to find out and comes after them.

Bluff (to seem like he knows nothing): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

The guards nod in agreement before word of the encounter is relayed to the elders.

We can role play this scene for a bit if you all like or cut to the next encounter. Either way, begin preparing the level two adjustments for your character. When we move onto the next set of encounters you will do so as second level characters.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Either way is fine by me.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Relieved to see Rheynold ok Jenya stands up and brushes some dust off her armor. If they threaten us Then we will crush them. she says with conviction in her voice.

Relaxing as the combat seems to be over she walks over to Tamayra. That is a fine weapon with bite and range she says motioning at the rifle. And your aim is incredible.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Fine with either rping or moving on to the next encounter

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

"Thanks," Tamayra replies grinning, "You're a damn fine shot yourself with that pistol of yours, and quick as hell"

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

As the rock dust settles the extent of the damage to the corridor becomes apparent. Tairn, who has left the cart in the charge of the guards, gasps at the damage. An entire section of the left corridor has completely collapsed. The force of the rocks have damaged the lighting near the hole and damaged the line of obsidian on the right of the corridor enough that the lights beyond this point have dimmed significantly.

With a disbelieving nod Tairn expresses his frustration, "It will take my crew weeks to repair this damage. Gesturing at the remains of the elementals, and if any more of these things are within the work will just be undone."

Scene Change:
Begin preparing your lvl 2 character adjustments. Please post any questions about this process in the Discussion forum. I will post role play material for the next scene over the coming days with the goal of beginning any combat encounters being Monday. Try to have your PC ready by then.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Though a few other elementals stray down the corridor, nothing emerges from the collapsed vent. The few that make their way down the corridor are easily dispatched. Eventually guards return to relieve the group. The head guard speaks quickly before joining his fellows.

"The elders have sent word that their representative, Oso wishes to see you right away at the corridor entrance."

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya nods and heads towards the entrance with the others. As she goes she chats with Tamayra comparing notes on the differences between pistols and rifles.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Still quite stung by the blast, Iron Sprocket says, "Well then, I guess our work here is done for now" and turns and walks back they way they came.

Of note, when the day ends I'm going to walk off into a corner somewhere and use my remaining channels and spell slots to heal myself.

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

Tamayra walks along with Jenya, her musket slung over her shoulder as they talk.

At the corridor entrance stands Oso; he appears worried, but a slight weight seems lifted as he sees all of you alive and well.
"It appears the situation in the corridor is more complicated than we'd imagined. I'm afraid I must ask if each of you is willing to take on an unimaginable task. With a wave of his hand the surrounding guards leave. Though you can see them in the distance keeping anyone from approaching closer, it is clear Oso only wishes each of you to hear his question.

The collapse must be sealed immediately. Without the corridor we have no way of retrieving obsidian. All the exploratory guard have returned so they can guard the corridor once the collapse has been sealed. But we must make sure nothing else emerges from the vent. He takes a deep breath before continuing at a whisper. Will you enter the vent before it is sealed?"

Male Dwarf Ancestral Steward (Fighter) 2; 17/21 HP; +4 Init, +6 Percpt; AC 19, Touch 12, FF 17; +5 Fort, +2 Ref, +1 Will

Ergas steps forward without hesitation. With a thud he brings fist to chest, over his heart, and bows before Oso.

"I am honored to go. For the sake of the dome."

He falls back into ranks, and eyes each of his comrades with expectation.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya's eyes widen before narrowing Sealed behind us after we enter?

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

Tamayra is silent as the others react.

"So we're heading into an uncharted cavern space to protect this settlement?"

Oso nods, "Yes. What I am asking is purely voluntary. With so little time available we must act quickly and decisively, if possible. Carefully retrieving a satchel slung over his back, Oso retrieves several items that have been carefully wrapped in thick cloth. Though you would all indeed be sealed within the vent, I can offer you the help of these relics.

He carefully lays the cloth on the ground, unwrapping the items and resting them gently on the fine material. The three items include a wooden rod with five rings around its tip, a small metallic canteen, and a stone bowl. Oso lifts each item in sequence as he describes them. Each of these items will help you survive and hopefully return to the dome. Though they will not work right away, as you move further from the corridor the magic of each item will no longer be hampered by the obsidian. Each of you should wear one of the these rings. When the time comes, break this rod and anyone wearing a ring will return to the elder's hall. This canteen will always have enough water for the individual holding it to quench their thirst and live for the day. Whether dirt or stone is placed in this bowl, it will create a meal for four three times each day. It will also duplicate any small mundane item that is put within three times per day. Wrapping the items and returning them the satchel, Oso turns to look at each of you. Now you must decide. Will you go?"

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Being silent this whole time, Iron sprocket realizes that going into this vent is not at all what he had signed up for originally, but he can't help being curious about what the elementals said earlier.

He nods, "I will go, but what are we looking for exactly?"

"I wish we knew. The corridor must be protected. If the vent isn't occupied all you'll need to do is get far enough from the obsidian to use the rod. If any other elementals are within they must be dealt with."

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya closes her eyes for a moment before opening them, filled with determination and repeats her gunslinger salute from when she first met the elder. I will go. For the Dome. When do we leave?

"You leave as soon as you're ready. If there are supplies you wish to procure make haste and let me know what they are. My guards will insure that they are delivered to the corridor. I can cover costs within reason."

You may request non magical supplies up to 1000 gp in total cost.

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

per person?

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

"I swore an out to protect the people of this city from the dangers beyond a long time ago, and it's as strong to me now as then. I'm definitely going." Tamayra says solemnly.

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Yes, 1000 gp per person.

Male Dwarf Ancestral Steward (Fighter) 2; 17/21 HP; +4 Init, +6 Percpt; AC 19, Touch 12, FF 17; +5 Fort, +2 Ref, +1 Will

"Whether it's hauling rocks or going on this expedition, if the dome needs me, I'll be there. Thank you for entrusting us with these valuable gifts. We will return with them safely. As for supplies, there's a few things I could certainly use..."

Ergas strokes his beard in contemplation... putting together a mental list of supplies.

I'll post back tonight with my requested items. Thanks so much!

After time to gather supplies and a nights rest, you find yourself heading back down the corridor. As you near the collapsed area you can see workers have cleared much of the debris and have begun to seal up the gap in the corridor wall. A hole remains for you to enter the vent, but the pile of stone blocks near by stand ready to block the exit. Oso stands near the supplies that have been requested, a trio of lanterns sit near him.

"I hope to see all of you again soon. May the hopes of your people light your way. May your blades be swift and your aim true." With a nod guards flank the remaining entrance and workers ready large stones to place behind you.

The vent is cylindrical in shape (30 ft circumference). Slopping down and away from the corridor there seems to be very little debris within. Though a bit of light is shed from the corridor, you're sure once sealed the vent is likely to be completely dark.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

Rolling for healing before rest:

Walking away from everyone (because he doesn't know who is affected by what right now) and channelling negative:
Channel x2: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8

Burning my second spell slot for spontaneous inflict on myself:
Inflict Light Wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Well, that healed me to full surprisingly. Now for prepared spells:
- Level 0: Guidance, Resistance, Mending, Light
- Level 1: Bless, Bless, Shield of Faith, Pendulum

Ran outta time, will post the RP bit later tonight hopefully.

Male Symbiont (Human) Cleric (Ancestral Priest) 5; HP 30/30; +0 Init; +7 Perception; AC 18 (Flat 18, Touch 10); Fort +6, Ref +1, Will +8

"Well, here goes nothing... I guess..." Iron Sprocket says apprehensively. Looking over at the supplies, he continues, "Thank you for the supplies Oso." Iron Sprocket then walks over to his new equipment, takes off his old armor and morningstar and dons the new gear. "Here is my old equipment, hopefully somebody else can use it well. And thanks for thinking of us" he says gesturing at the lanterns, "but I have one of my own."

Male Dwarf Ancestral Steward (Fighter) 2; 17/21 HP; +4 Init, +6 Percpt; AC 19, Touch 12, FF 17; +5 Fort, +2 Ref, +1 Will

Ergas steps forward and addresses his comrades. "I'll take the lead. You all should stay a few paces behind, let 'em at me first." With that he determinately steps forward and into the corridor. He doesn't wait for the others to react. He holds his head high, and as he walks he scans keenly into the darkness, searching for any traces of the elementals in this area...

Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
+2 Bonus if Ergas is in "dim" light

Female Human Obsidian Gunner Lev 5 | HP 51/51HP | AC 18 (FF 13 Touch 15) | Init+6 | Saves (Fort+5,Reflex+8,Will+4) | Grit 3/3 | Per +11

Jenya returns home for the night to an approving house and family. Word has reached them that the task for which she was summoned to the elders has gone well enough that she has been assigned an even more important one. To be sent out into the fray for the dome his kind of service to the Dome is exactly what she has been trained for and her house is proud of this promising start.
Her rigid martial upbringing has meant that Jenya does not have particularly warm relations with her parents even though she is an only child. After a quick embrace from her mother and a paternal pat on the shoulder from her father Jenya lets them know that she will be gone for an undetermined amount of time and retires for the night.
Communing with the memory crystal embedded in her pistol and with the necessary materials generously provided by Oso, Jenya works for a while on it with her gunsmith kit. After cleaning, clearing, upgrading and tweaking it as guided by her gunslinger predecessors Jenya emerges with a weapon that, though still a family heirloom, is now uniquely hers and, fittingly, deadlier than before.

The next day Jenya falls into line with her brand new lantern raised high. She will be either behind Ergas or Rheynold depending on whether Rheynold wishes to be 2nd in line or 3rd.

Bullseye lantern provides illumination for 60 feet. If no one else has a light source than Jenya will pour one flask of oil in and light it for 6 hours of illumination

Male Half-Orc Monk 9 / Puppetmaster 2

Depending on Rheynold's positioning of his light spell everyone will be able to see fine within 10-20 feet (normal light). Beyond that point the light is dim 10+ to 40 feet out. Beyond 40 feet only those with darkvision can see.

The temperature within the vent is surprisingly comfortable. Occasionally a gust of warm air is felt from somewhere ahead. As the gap in the corridor is sealed the sound of workers outside is muffled. As the group heads onward the work on the corridor can still be heard.

Ergas and those with darkvision:
You notice movement near what at first appears to be a pile of rocks about 50 feet ahead.

Female Human Obsidian Walker (Ranger) 5

Tamayra, spends a few hours working with her musket, taking the time to fine tune the weapon, rendering it more accurate and less likely to misfire. Once the work is completed she spends time in meditation with her crystal, attuning herself to the awareness she would need in the wilderness of the caverns.

As the group assembles she gives Oso's words a nod and takes her place at the back, allowing her to take advantage of her greater range.

Male Dwarf Ancestral Steward (Fighter) 2; 17/21 HP; +4 Init, +6 Percpt; AC 19, Touch 12, FF 17; +5 Fort, +2 Ref, +1 Will

Ergas abruptly draws his shield and axe. He turns to the group and announces. "There's movement up ahead. I'm going in." And with that, he is off. He approaches the rock pile he saw in the distance, ready, and anxious, to strike.
