Drizzal |
"Slugglethorn, you take what you want. I have me own works," he said letting the other Goblin choose his explosive.
Drizzal looked down at the skeletal Goblin Dog...
as it fell into a pile of bones, which he picked up and put back in the sack.
"Bones be tired, suppose," he mentioned as he slung the sack over his shoulder, "We be off now?"
Chief Rendwattle |
The party sets off on their quest. You leave the confines of the makeshift camp and step onto the boggy ground of the marsh, you pick your way though difficult terrain. Stinging nettles snatch at your legs and deep pools of stagnant water bar your path. You eventually take a break about halfway through your journey. You rest next to a small creek with large trees stretching above you.
Need a Perception from everyone please :D
Drizzal |
Drizzal stretched out under one of the large trees, content to play with his bag of bones. He was chanting and waving his hands over the bag...
"There be my precious-es," he said, patting one of the skulls, as he glanced around.

Surprise round. Spider Attack ;)
A huge bulbous creature drops in the middle of you all. It's deep black eyes stare at Dogface in hatred and anger. It attempts to strike down with it's poison glistened fangs.
Bite attack on Dogface:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
However in it's hunger it's fangs only bite deep into the ground.
Dogface if you can't access the map. You are basically stood right in the face of the spider ;)
just post your actions in any order and I will sort out what happens when :D.
Drizzal |
"Kill!" Drizzal commanded his pets as he pulled forth his cross bow and loaded it. Move Action
As his skeletal companions bound forward, Drizzal brought up the crossbow and fired... Standard Action
Dog 2 Attack/Damage:1d20 ⇒ 31d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Dog 3 Attack/Damage:1d20 ⇒ 171d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Drizzal Attack/Damage:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 101d6 ⇒ 4
Wow... that is a colossal stink bag!
Watching his bolt tumble, Drizzal chuckled manically, "You gonna die Dog Face...
Chief Rendwattle |
Dogface's attack slashes through the spiders face, blinding it in several of it's eyes. Yellow blood spurts from the wound and it thrashes in anger batting away two of the skeleton dogs attacks, however the other dog grabbed a hold of one of the spiders legs ripping it clean off. Drizzal's crossbow shot lands just wide of the beast.
The spider is wild in it's anger trying to bite down on Dogface.
Bite Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4
Dogface Fort Save 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
DogFace |
"GAWWWWWD!! That HURT you big nasty spider thing with lots of big legs and big mouth turned sidewats!"
DogFace stumbles from the bite, but gets his balance back while a trying to figure out why there's a weird tingling feeling in his wound. DogFace used to watch spiders eat houseflies when he was a goblin pup, so he's surprised he's not wrapped up and hanging in a web. He is a little disappointed, since he'd always wondered what that'd be like.
back to top of initiative order, right?
DogFace raises his scimitar over his head and slashes down on the spider's "face".
"Die! You seven-legged spider thing with yellow blood!"
Attack = 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Scimitar Damage = 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Drizzal |
"Get 'em boys!" Drizzal yelled as he reloaded and brought up his crossbow.
The skeletal hounds lunged in again...
Dog Two:1d20 ⇒ 101d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 10/4
Dog Three:1d20 ⇒ 31d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 3/3
Drizzal Crossbow:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d6 ⇒ 5 8/5
OMG I Suck!
BTW Didn't Dog Face Crit with the previous fight?
DogFace |
The weapon stats say this "Scimitar +4 (1d4+2/18-20/x2)".
Does that mean DogFace has a "+4" on his "to hit" roll?
If the roll is a natural 18, 19 or 20, then he gets a 2nd roll.
If the 2nd roll is a hit, then does the scimitar does double damage (x2)?
If all this is correct, how do we handle this since I've already made additional rolls.
I'm glad to learn this, BTW.
And I appreciate your pointing it out.
Chief Rendwattle |
Yep the +4 is what you add to your attack roll.
Yes if it is a natural 18, 19 or 20 Dogface gets a critical hit.
Then you roll the 2nd dice if this beats the AC of the creature then you have 'Confirmed' the critical.
Then if you have hit the weapon does Two dice rolls worth of damage.
Well roll your critical confirmation and we can see if it is a hit or miss
Chief Rendwattle |
Dogface's scimitar comes slashing down across the creatures face and ripping off a fang. The spider thrashes in agony battering away the attacks of the skeletal dogs and the badly aimed crossbow bolt. However one dog dodged underneath and ripped a wound into the spiders abdomen.
The spider comes crashing back to the floor and once more lashes out at Dogface.
Bite attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
But it's agony allows Dogface to easily dodge the attack.
Your Turn Next Round Guys
DogFace |
DogFace is beginning to think that sautéed spider might make for a pretty good lunch, but first he raises the scimitar over his head and brings it slashing down on the critter's head.
I hate spiders that are alive!, DogFace yells.
Standard Move = Attack = 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
And the scimitar comes ker-thunking down into the dirt right in front of the spider's face.
DogFace's whole body rattles from the shock.
Drizzal |
The battle continued...
1d20 ⇒ 16
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Dog Two
1d20 ⇒ 2
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Dog Three
1d20 ⇒ 5
1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Drizzal Crossbow
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
1d6 ⇒ 6
and it wasn't going well.
"Slugglethorn, Git yer mangy arse in there!" Drizzal yelled.
DogFace |
The fear's gotten better as I get older, but if I'm surprised by a spider -- it's heavily wooded here, so it's easy to walk right into a spider web along a sidewalk or path -- I'm still startled!
GM-Hairy |
Dogface's attack misses and Drizzal's Crossbow shot smacks into the ground by the creatures feet. However the Dogs have better luck. All three charge in at once distracting the spider enough so that one can dodge in ripping a huge wound into its already bleeding abdomen. The spider lets out what seems to be a screech before falling to the ground dead.
DogFace |
DogFace wiggles his scimitar out of the ground and looks around.
"Big seven-legged spider bug look dead to me. That be good if spider be dead. That mean spider don't bite DogFace. Can me can cook spider and eat spider? Or " ... he points to Slugglethorn and Drizzal ... "do me and you and you keep going down the trail through this swampy land with thorns?"
Drizzal |
Drizzal finished loading his next bolt.
"Good lads," he said to his skeletal companions as he went around and rounded up as many of his fired bolts as he could.
He looked from Dog Face to the spider and back, "Think you cook down the venom from that spider?" he asked with a lift of a brow.
DogFace |
He looked from Dog Face to the spider and back, "Think you cook down the venom from that spider?" he asked with a lift of a brow.
Intelligence Roll (to see whether DogFace knows how to cook a spider down to the venom)
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6DogFace's ugly mouth is hanging open, and his eyes are vacant.
He then turns to Drizzal, makes a slight shrug, and points to the dead spider with his scimitar.
Me do not know what 'cook down venom' mean, and me not know what 'venom' mean. Me know how to cook animal or big bug to eat, and me add curry and garlic make it taste good and keep vampire away but me not know what it mean to cook big seven-legged spider that was alive and now be dead and what 'venom' mean.
Drizzal |
Drizzal scratched his chin... "Seems to me that if this is dead," he said nodding at the spider, "Then the bones... erm, treasure, of its food should be ours. And, free for the taking.
He dropped his hand, and looked from Slugglethorn to Dog Face, "I says we check it out. At least for a bit, before we travel on. What say you?"
The question was directed at Dog Face, namely because Drizzal realized without him going along with it, going in was as good as over.
DogFace |
DogFace looks from Drizzal to Slugglethorn and back to Drizzal again.
His mind went slowly blank at the thought of this decision coming down to him.
Things like this were easier when some other goblin told you what to do.
Pointing a finger back and forth between the two, he says,
Eenie, meanie, miney, moe, catch a dwarf by it's toe ...
DogFace rolls a mental die in his head. 1= Slugglethorn, 2 = Drizzal
1d2 ⇒ 1
Me think Slugglethorn be right. We don't find fireworks, then Chief kill us dead and put us our heads on pole. Me don't want me head on pole. Me want to make Chief happy. Then we come back and get big spider with seven legs' treasure later. Okay?
Drizzal |
Drizzal did not hide his dissapointment, but did make a mental note of their location.
"Fine, we be off to find the fireworks then."
'I'll be back one way or another,' he told himself, 'Probably better things in there than fireworks anyway!'
He turned and set off in the direction they were headed prior to the attack.
Chief Rendwattle |
You set on your way once more and after another half an hour of travel reach the ship wreck. You can see the waves in the distance and hear the water lapping on the shore. The ship itself is huge and deeply embedded in a shallow pool of water; the marsh itself seems to be swallowing the vessel. The ship has two masts that rise high into the air, the sails still blowing in the wind. Suddenly a rattling alerts you attention and upon looking closer you see Goblin skeletons hanging on what seems to be a large wooden fence surrounding the ship, forming a makeshift garden. A thick curl of smoke wafts up from a chimney that protrudes from an unusual box like structure near the ship’s bow. From inside the garden you hear the unmistakable sound of a horse neighing.
DogFace |
DogFace trembles at the sound of a horse.
He's grossed-out and afraid of horses.
One time -- when he was a Goblin cub -- his brothers beat the s*~@ out of him.
While they were doing that, DogFace noticed a jagged rock.
He picked the rock up and smashed it into his brother's eye.
Ever since then, DogFace has tried to look around.
Because when you look around you see things that are not there.
Perception Check
1d20 ⇒ 15
Does DogFace see anything?
DogFace |
Facing the gate -- at the fencepost marked "1" -- DogFace draws his scimitar and moves two more fenceposts to his right and then climbs the fence turns.
He then sneaks through the marsh, trying to be as quiet as he can.
He doesn't like the water in his boots.
And he looks around for anything shiny as he moves along, finally winding up underneath the ladder after walking the perimeter of the ship.
DogFace licks the blade of his scimitar, his brain struggling with the idea of thinking.
Why we be here, he wonders. Drizzal was right. We should have gone to get treasure from seven-legged spider bug instead of coming to this old ship where there is no treasure and where there is no spider.
