There is no arguing that these last few years, crime in Absalom City has been on the rise. Thugs grow more bold with the rapid decline of the city guard to stem the tide. Thieves, scoundrels, and other never-do-wells see opportunity in the despair of the good citizens. Street violence rises like a storm to flood both the innocent and the guilty in it's lockjaw embrace.

Dark cultist now seem to flock to the city in it's near death-throws, nearing it's fall, but still clinging to the ledge with an ever dwindling tenacity. Past defenders have fallen. In the early days, days now long gone from bleak memory to most, the Pathfinder Society was counted on, but they where the first to fall. It's neutral members murdered in their beds, it's lodges, it's Grand Lodge, plundered by and desecrated by individuals that where never identified. The city begged for help in what they thought was their most desperate hour, the years before it got worse, but even they where turned away. Fought off until trouble in Lastwall called, until Mendev's defenses where destroyed. And then the Sky Citadel fell. A cataclysmic event that devastated the seas and scorched the skies, making travel to the island nation of Absalom City nearly untransversable by any way save the cities prior defenses, through the Flotsam Graveyard, now a hotspot for risen undead pirates and fowl crawling unnatural things.

In all of this, the only heroes that Absalom City can now count on are those few willing to stand up for itself, those willing to hold the torch up, though it paints a target upon them for all to see, in hopes that that torch will endure the ravages of evil and darkness, in fact in spite of it, and preserve to light other beacons of hope.

Welcome to the resistance. . .

A resistance of a small few, brothers and sisters against the darkness. Individuals who, by day, pretend to live lives of the common, downtrodden. The innocents caught in the middle, if not, by day, a part of the problem. But this is their false face. Their disguise. Their shell and their wall. For by night, they rise up to take a swing against the rising evil. To fight for Absalom City. To both light a candle and scream against the darkness.

An elderly man, said by some to once have been a Pathfinder himself, before the, well, just before, calls to you. Through your past crusades, you have come to call other like yourselves friends, even though you know not who the others are underneath the cowl, mask, or cloak. You know how to call to each other, a torch lit from a certain window, a message through a series of messengers, the painting of graffiti upon a certain wall, or even a letter left at a certain point will summon you to your place of meeting. The place of your first unified victory. And once again, you are summoned. . .

The Blade of the Union steps up and cuts the last Troglodyte in two with ease, adding another notch to his blade as Silver Warden steps over and finishes up the Shocker Lizard. Oddly, these little creatures are not normally given to speech, much less coherent thought. Someone must have been speaking through it. You vaguely remember some sort of villain back in Absalom City with a penitent for electricity. Rumor on the street was that he was on the lookout for one of these things for a pet, well before The Spider killed him in the streets.

Looking around the room, the final door leads to a staircase. It goes both up and down, though going down doesn't get you very far as the way has been caved in.

In the armory, it seems most of the weaponry has fallen to the sands of time, but you do spot a few items still worthy of use. A masterwork silver dagger, a round masterwork light steel shield emblazoned with a single star in the middle and circled by red and blue rings.

You also have a chance to heal if needed.

Taking the staircase upwards, you find this floor's architecture is much the same as the one below, though the stairwell exits into a single large room that combines the western and southern space from below.

Two stone altars, one black and one white, sit at either end of this large chamber, which takes up two wings of the tower on this level. The crumbling remains of wooden benches sag in front of each altar beneath rotting ceiling tapestries. Carved symbols and writings snake along the walls. The burnt corpses of two troglodytes lie on the floor in the center of the room.

Know Religion DC 10:
This room as a temple dedicated to Nethys, the god of magic, in both of his aspects: protection and destruction. The writings on the walls are quotes from Nethys’s holy book.

As you step into the room, the burnt corpses begin to twitch, then rise to their feet. As they shamble a bit closer to you with un unnatural moan, they suddenly catch fire once again, though the unholy flame is a sickly blue color.

Know Religion (undead) DC 15:
These burning Skeletons are immune to fire, but very weak against cold and ice. Because of their flaming bodies unnatural heat, those that stand close to them can take damage, as well as those that attack with fists and other body parts.

Lightning and Orlesk destroy them both with ease before anyone else can even react, clearing the threat before it even has a chance to become one. The altars still contain their silver altar services as well as two silver holy symbols of Nethys. In addition, a divine scroll rests atop each altar: a scroll of shatter on the black altar, and a scroll of shield other on the white altar.

Ascending to the 4th floor you come out into an old barracks, recently reopened for three more Troglodytes resting throughout. Surprised at your presence, they jump to their feet.

Please note that the beds count as obstacles (difficult terrain) and also offer partial cover.

Sorry for the delay, work's been tough these last few days. I also just found out I may be going to the field for a week on the 3rd. Short notice, but it may not happen. If so, I may or may not have internet, even from my phone. I'll let you know if so, but I'm going to try to push this game to be finished by then, and if we are fast, should still be fine for First Steps if you are interested by the deadline. I highly encourage you all to begin/continue to post as much feedback as you can now and as we continue.

Lightning Agent begins chanting the words to a spell as he moves in, placing an electrified hand on the Troglodyte's chest, but it doesn't seem too affected by the magic involved. Just afterwards, Silver Warden deftly moves to the closest Trog, delivering a devastating haymaker to the creature's snouted face and nearly knocking it out cold.

Hoping for better luck, Union's Blade moves in to the last Trog to bring the pain, which he does. Sadly, it isn't against the target he intended, but does manage to cleave the barracks bed in two with a single swing. The Shadow, takes no chances, and steps up to try to cover his friend's backs, cutting deep into the Troglodyte's chest and sending blood spraying half way across the room in an arch from his larger blade.

Finally, last to react of the quickest of the group, the Red Rook moves in to assist, hoping to take out at least one of the threats, but luck is not with him this time.

The Troglodyte nearest the Shadow and Red Rook retaliates, bringing the club around in an odd arch, but effective none the less as it slams into Red Rook's shoulder painfully.

Working on update now.

Lightning Agent steps over to the bed for a little more ground, easily avoiding a wide swing from the Trog's club, then blasting it with a small laser of cold energy.

Club vs Lightning (AC 17): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 <nope>

The Silver Warden takes another swing at his enemy wit his battle-gloved fist, but it's unsuccessful. The Union's Blade encounters a similar situation from a little further away, as does Orlesk. It seems tat fate and luck may just be taking a turn for our heroes in their time of need. . .

Insert Giacomo's action here.

In a display that seems to counter fate's perceived hand, The Red Rook raises his axe high above his head, tripping the reptilian Trog to land before him on his knees, then brings down the axe hard, cleaving it's head.

Will they find the strength and skill to pull through. Find out next time on The Age of Vigilante. Same Vigil time. Same Vigil channel.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Last time we saw our heroes, they where have some difficulty in a fight against not one, but three primitive reptilian brutes called Troglodytes. A race perhaps even more ancient than their own, once undisputed rulers of a primitive world, but now thrown down below it. It seems that fate is set against our brave heroes, with few able to land a solid blow, and their enemies now gaining ground. Only one has fallen, and the clock is counting down. . .

Finally, after more than a few hard knocks, the two remaining Troglodytes fall to the ground, bleeding some strange, putrid smelling blackish blood. They held little of value, but as you begin to explore the remainder of the floor, you find an enormous frog sitting over a small pile of treasure as it hunkers down in a pool that has collected in the corner.

Various cracks in the wall have allowed some rain in, and it seems to have made a rather nice little pool for the creature. It's little effort to scare it off, but after doing so, you see that all of the valuables have been utterly ruined, no longer of use or worth.

The final room opens to reveal a brazier of glowing coals that sits in the center of this room, its acrid smoke mixing with the ever-present troglodyte stench. A few knives, pokers, and other metal implements lie atop a rusty iron box nearby.

Another single Troglodyte fight I'm going to skip.

It isn't difficult at al to dispatch this one, and doing so does offer a bit of reward. In a small room behind the enemy, you find a prisoner. The Troglodyte carries a key that opens the prisoner’s manacles. The rusty iron chest holds the prisoner’s equipment: a suit of masterwork studded leather armor, a masterwork buckler, a masterwork rapier, a shortbow with 15 arrows, a scroll of cure moderate wounds, a scroll of invisibility, and a climber’s kit. You also find a strange object. One you have only see one of before, and even then, only by accident amongst your own. It's a small metaline compass, a tool for finding magnetic north and used for survival and travel, but this one is different. It seems to offer it's own strange, magical light on command, and has an unknown Glyph engraved upon the lid. Cracking it open, you see what seems to be an etched name, "V. Wing"

Inside the room you also see the body of an elderly Tengu, a strange creature from far off lands. They have become a very uncommon sight since their homeland was devastated in the Gulgatronian Wars. The body appears to have only been dead for minutes, but you wonder just what relation he might have to The Seeker, and you also wonder if Ven Lorovox's mission to come here might have held a secondary agenda. . .

Finally climbing to the 5th and final floor, you come to the final chamber. The four wings of the tower are completely open on this level, forming one great, cross-shaped chamber with arched ceilings. The decayed remnants of a carpet run from the doorways at the end of each wing, meeting in the center, where a spiral staircase drops out of sight below. A large, throne-like chair stands in the middle of the eastern wing next to a big chest.

Sitting atop the chair, a make-shift throne, is another Troglodyte, this one much larger and more feral looking than any you have seen before. He rises as you enter, angrily pointing a taloned finger at you, ordering the large albino crocodile at his feet to attack. "Thisss tower isss mine!"

A frozen beam springs from Lightning's pointed finger, smashing into the crocodile with surprising force. Tasskar, the Troglodyte king stands, and begins chanting a spell. Suddenly, at the ground around your feet, you see tiny spiderly legs reach up through the stone. Then another, and another, and a thousand more. Within a few seconds, there are thousands of tiny, venomous arachnids all over the place, biting and crawling all over the Wasp, the Silver Agent, and the Shadow, then retreating to stand behind the throne for cover.
