The dark grey are the cavern walls, the light grey is the pile of rubble from which the rats are emerging. You are entering from the south. Based on the actions above, Rhok is quite close to the rubble. Sol may be further north as he is examining the way ahead. The rest of you may place yourselves (plus the NPCs) more or less where you like.
Initiaitve for the rat swarm 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Jod Eastwind |
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Jod would have moved forward with Rhok to examine the campsite. Can we assume the campfire was F8, maybe? Rhok in G8, Jod in F9? What say you, cousin?
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Initiative
Rats 23
Jod 15
Kira 14
Mulluq 12
Sol 9
Rhok ?
Hannik ?
Ghrolk ?
We seem to be having problems with some players who were previously reliable. Someone please roll the missing initiatives. We may also have to think about whether we may need to replace players since this really doesn't bode well for the future.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Rhok rushes forwards and begins smashing and stamping to kill the rats. They reply by running up his legs, biting and tearing.
The rat swarm moves forward and engulfs Rhok. He gets an AoO against the swarm, but also takes 1d6 ⇒ 4 damage and must also make a DC 12 Fort save or be nauseated. And he's also exposed to filth fever, which is another DC 12 Fort save. I bet Vatnisse is really pleased about the actions Nevynxxx took on his behalf. ;-)
Ghrolk. We'll assume that Ithers is unavailable unless we hear otherwise - someone take his turn, please.
Jod Eastwind |
Ghroth moves to E8 and attacks the rats.
Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
He snaps down with his teeth, shaking those he's caught and breaking them before tossing them aside.

Jod Eastwind |
Jod hesitates for just a moment before he forgoes the huge sword on his back for a tiny curved dagger at his waste. It appears to be a ritual dagger, but the point is needle-like and the edge is very sharp. It should serve fine on vermin such as this...
Move to F7 and attack
Attack with dagger: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Ugh!
Kira Valerious |
Kira moves forwards then mutters a few words under her breath then throws a magical ball of acid at the rats.
Move to E11
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
Or not....
Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |
Mulluq is taken aback, a little uncertain what to do against a flurry of rats. He steps up, sword in hand, swinging at the cluster. He even lets slip his inborn savagery, snapping at one of the rats crawling on Rhok. His reluctance to swing and act so violently next to someone he just met causes him to pull his attacks too much.
5' step to F6
Lonsword vs rats 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Bite vs Rats 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
Sol Calondor |
Wish I had my staff. Sol thinks as he runs toward the rats. Stooping low and holding his shield at an angle to keep the rats from jumping at his face, he slashes across the mass of rodents with his dagger.
Move to E5. Add 2 to the attack roll if you can flank a swarm. I'm assuming its a swarm?
dagger, melee: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11 ... damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |
Mulluq doesn't like this idea, "No, all of you move away, let the swarm take me. My foul demon blood can completely take the burn of liquid fire without injury. Let me bear the wounds for all of you."
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
For the DM
Anevia look nonplussed by the argument about who should bear the brunt of the rats and fire, then just shrugs and throws the flask.
Aiming at the swarm 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 5 - 2 = 22, damage 1d6 ⇒ 6
The flask explodes with a satisfying crump and the rats scatter amid the smell of burning fur.
End of encounter. 100xp each.
Sol Calondor |
Sol looks over the dispersing swarm to Anevia. "We're lucky you had that, but if we'd known about it we all could have stayed clear of the swarm. What else have you got?"
I ought to give more xp for amusement value.
What's stopping you?
Oh and Christmas is really close now. My posting may slow a bit for a few days. If I'm holding things up, feel free to RP Sol for me.
Merry Christmas to you all.
Mulluq'Tar Sheptat |
Mulluq looks curiously at Rhok, like he's trying to discern some quality, but he still answers Kira as an aside "We may not be the only ones down here. We do need to get our injured to safety, but we may also need to be ready to help any other survivors."
Finally getting his thoughts together, he asks of Rhok, "If I may ask, from where does your ability to resist the flames hail?"
Sol Calondor |
"If they weren't with us in the collapse, I doubt we want to even meet anyone down here. But we should search anywhere we see signs of people. Any little thing could prove of use. See, here are some candles."
Sol smiles triumphantly and scoops the three stubs into his belt pouch.
Jod Eastwind |
"Yeah, just 'cause you're cute when you pout like that." Holding up what he hopes is a disarming hand while he grins, he quickly adds, "Nobody was doing anything else and I was curious what this poor soul left behind. Besides, I don't know how long it will take for us to reach the surface and I didn't really go to the parade planning on an extended underground expedition."
He holds up a brooch to her. "Interesting decoration. Have you seen anything like it before?"
Kira Valerious |
Kira glances unconsciously at the magic lights all around them when Sol mentions the candle stubs. But holds her tongue.
Let's see if she can answer Jod's question...
Appraise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Knowledge planes: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 It's the only knowledge I'm trained in....
Kira also manages to ignore Jods comment about her pout, but it visibly pains her to do so. So she frowns instead.
Sol Calondor |
Sol watches the interplay between Jod and Kira with a trace of jealousy. Short, oddly square, he's never made a great first impression. His relationships require some interaction, some speech, to start making headway.
The young man turns away and directs his dancing lights down the tunnel ahead.
Jod Eastwind |
Jod says, "No?" with mild disappointment and stows the brooch for the moment before taking up his gear and looking to see what Sol's lights have revealed.
I know it's the holiday and that slows a lot of posting, so don't let me push us forward. I suspect there is probably some healing and maybe searching due from our currently-unavailable comrades. I don't want to presume and act for them, especially between combat.
