There are bushes and trees to hide behind just to the side of the path.

The voices sound like they are coming towards you.

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

"Heh. No no no. Just keep your weapons sheathed for now and don't draw them unless they get aggressive. Sef- why don't you stay out of sight but be ready to make new friends if things go poorly."

Illes sits down on a rock, spreads out a little food beside him as if he has stopped for a bite to eat and pulls out his flute. He winks at Alwyn and begins to play.

Readied action to fascinate once I can see the giants and they are close enough to talk.

Enchantress 8/Oracle (flame) 1/Hellknight Signifier 2; AC 24, FF 21, T 15, CMD 19; F 8, R 9, W 14; hp 72/72; Init +4; Perc +6; Irresistible Demand 7/8; Effects: Flying disk, Overland Flight

Sefayll nods and steps into the bushes off the path, preparing to cast charm monster and trying to reach out with her helm to get the tenor of their thoughts. Not sure how soon she will be able to pick up their thoughts since they are out of sight, so she's in first round detection mode until she picks one up. She's out of sight and listening to the conversation rather than peeking for fear she will give herself away.

Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20

Male Halfling Rogue/11 AC:26 HP: 92{92}

Camlo has already sloped off to one side and hidden himself.

"Camlo... Camlo?"

The giants are maybe a bit too far away right now to mind probe and by the time they are, they should be in sight.

Three stone giants stroll out of the trees and reach the bridge. Then they spot Alwyn, Illes and Hudak in the middle of the path and pull up. One of the them says to the others:

Giant:

Spoiler:
"What have we here, lads?"

Enchantress 8/Oracle (flame) 1/Hellknight Signifier 2; AC 24, FF 21, T 15, CMD 19; F 8, R 9, W 14; hp 72/72; Init +4; Perc +6; Irresistible Demand 7/8; Effects: Flying disk, Overland Flight

I assumed they would be in sight, but I'm not looking, just reaching out with the helm.

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

Illes looks up, waves and takes a drink from his waterskin before going back to his meal.

I need to wait for them to be within 90' before I can attempt to fascinate them, but once they are...
Will DC 23 vs all three.

The giants unlimber their clubs and move cautiously towards the group. They look around, suspecting a trap.

For the DM:

Spoiler:
Giant Perceptions:
Giant 1 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Giant 2 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Giant 3 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

If you speak Giant, Perception DC 30:

Spoiler:
"One in the bushes to the side of the path."

"I see it. Metal armour, spear."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

Perception 9+14=23. Not quite.

"Good afternoon, gentlemen. Care for a game of cards?"

The giants shout out at Alwyn.

Giant:

Spoiler:
"Throw down your weapons! And the ones hiding must show themselves!"

They edge closer (but quite close enough for Illes' Fascination - yet).

You need to respond or the conversation will deteriorate markedly.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

"Relax, guys. The nearest forges are far from here; we don't want to risk throwing our swords and damaging them. We'll just keep them in our sheaths. You don't see us waving weapons and making threats, do you? All we want is a friendly chat."

There really should be a social skill called b!&@&%#@ting, especially if you've read Harry Frankfurter. A Diplomacy check to sound reasonable and reassuring: 12+16=28.

The giants look confused but move forwards, weapons still raised.

Close enough for Illes to try to Fascinate them.

Giant 1 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Giant 2 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Giant 3 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

One of the giants stops, leans on his club, and listens intently to Illes' flute. The others look at him, then at each other, then Illes, shouting angrily.

Giant:

Spoiler:
"What manner of magic is this! Stop it!"

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

Illes replies in Giant in a calm and reassuring voice,
Giant:

Spoiler:
"Relax, I just wanted to have a conversation without everyone pulling out their clubs and swords. I'm sure you can understand how that goes more often than not out here. Your friend is fine and we don't have to break out the weapons quite yet."

Illes ends the fascination.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35

The giant who seems in charge squints at Illes and Alwyn, and nods over to where Sefayll is hiding.

Giant:

Spoiler:
"Tell that one to come out in the open. And tell me what you want."

Guys? The whole Fascination thing didn't go quite as planned so you need to think of something. They are at least talking to you.

Camlo is pretty much watching to see what happens. He wont react until either the giants go away, or the first hostile move is taken... Unless of course they spot him...

Grand Lodge

I'm terrible with names and stuff off the cuff. Sometimes I need more time to look up relevant details than I have available.
The delay at the moment is just because I saw that since they weren't immediately trying to smash heads they might not be affiliated with Mokmurian and crew. But I was trying to remember that name.

Looking at the time now I realize that you posted as I was asleep, I went to work and only just returned home. I'm not doing so bad here after all.;)

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

"Sef- Do me a favor and step out here. You're making our friends nervous over there."

In Giant- "The real crux here is whether you all are part of Mokmurian's crew. I don't feel too shy in saying that the big man is overstepping by attacking our towns and we don't intend to let that go unanswered. But the way I understand it, more than a few of your folk feel like he's overstepping too. Different reasons maybe, but the trails lead to the same place."

"So what do you think? We have a little talk or do you want to throw down over Mokmurian's honor after all?"

Sense Motive: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14 Bleh.

They aren't exactly the greatest bluff-meisters out there.

The giants puff out their chests proudly. "We are in Lord Mokmurian's army." Then they look a bit confused. "So... Are you challenging us? Or surrendering? Or just want to parley?"

Enchantress 8/Oracle (flame) 1/Hellknight Signifier 2; AC 24, FF 21, T 15, CMD 19; F 8, R 9, W 14; hp 72/72; Init +4; Perc +6; Irresistible Demand 7/8; Effects: Flying disk, Overland Flight

The enchantress considers, then leaves her halberd on the ground and removes her eyeless helmet before stepping into view. She carries the helm under her arm and steps clear of the cover she was hiding behind. Can't even hide behind total cover - pathetic.

Camlo is very quietly suppressing a giggle now....

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

Illes cocks an eyebrow, "Well to parley of course. You really think Mokmurian has the numbers and defenses to hold out against us once we get organized? What does he have, 25... 30 of you guys and a few cave bears?"

"Mokmurian has a mighty army!" replies the giant. "Many tribes have come together, and we have many hundreds of warriors! We shall grind your armies into the dirt!"

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

"We recently spoke with some giant elders that don't share your optimism. Which tribe are you from, anyway?"

I think everyone in the party speaks Giant, so I won't bother with the spoilers.

"We are of the Crannoch tribe. We are all mighty warriors and hunters! Those you speak of are weak and pitiful. We shall make slaves of them when we have taken your cities as our own. And we are just one of many tribes the Lord Mokmurian has gathered at Jorgenfist."

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

"You know that Mokmurian's talk about 'restoring the giant empire' is nonsense, right? The giants were slaves to human Runelords back then. Anyway, how do you think Mokmurian aquired his magic? Why is he not observing the taboos of the Black Tower? I think he's someone's puppet, setting the tribes back up for re-enslavement."

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

"He's right you know. There is a reason you all should be worried about the things he's been delving into. It is incredibly dangerous. I guess Sefayll could explain it better than me." Illes turns and looks back at her while offering a wink, "Tell him what we're talking about Sef, make him understand. We're liable to end up banging around swords and clubs unless you can convince this guy Mokmurian is on the wrong path."

Bluff: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (10) + 15 = 25 Secret (but not terribly subtle) Message = DC 20 for Sefyall to charm the talker (or whatever else she might have had planned)

Init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

DC 25 sense motive for them to realize I just encouraged her to cast at them.

Enchantress 8/Oracle (flame) 1/Hellknight Signifier 2; AC 24, FF 21, T 15, CMD 19; F 8, R 9, W 14; hp 72/72; Init +4; Perc +6; Irresistible Demand 7/8; Effects: Flying disk, Overland Flight

I'm not sure they are in range, are they? If they stopped when they got into range for your fascination, they are about double my available range for charm person or charm monster.

She walks toward the giants to get into range as she speaks. She has no weapon in hand, only the helm that she holds between her arm and side.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (3) + 19 = 22 Oh, jeez, really?

"Of course, it is attractive to listen to someone with apparent power that tells of the greatness of your race in days past and claims that he can return you to those days. But Mokmurian was outcast, exiled by the tribe, and went into hiding. You should ask yourself where he went, who he talked to, what bargains were made, before he reappeared with this sudden power. I fear what my friend says is right - the giants under Mokmurian's banner are not to be the beneficiaries of his plan."

If she gets within 45', she will attempt to charm the speaker. Will DC 18 to negate

Hmm, hopefully this won't work out badly. Sadly, stone giants have good Will saves.

As Sefayll walks towards them, the giants become curious at the human woman. Then she casts her spell.

Will save 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14

The giant doing the talking breaks into a mildly horrific grin. "You people seem alright to me!" he burbles.

"Huh!" "Wha...!" The other giants round on Sefayll. "What did you do to him?" The two angry giants loom over her.

I'm assuming, since Illes was engaging in conversation, that ended his Fascinate attempt of the other one.

Enchantress 8/Oracle (flame) 1/Hellknight Signifier 2; AC 24, FF 21, T 15, CMD 19; F 8, R 9, W 14; hp 72/72; Init +4; Perc +6; Irresistible Demand 7/8; Effects: Flying disk, Overland Flight

"I did nothing. You heard the same thing he did. Perhaps my argument resonates with him, with doubts he already harbors. Please, explain to your friends."

I assume we have left the realm of diplomacy for that of bluff. Otherwise, the bonus is +19. Here's hoping I roll better this time...

Bluff: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

Not bloody much better. Uh, guys?

"You cast a spell! We saw you! Prepare to die!"

Roll initiative.

Male Halfling Rogue/11 AC:26 HP: 92{92}

Camlo: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

Initiative 14+1=15.

Hudak and Illes?

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

Initiative Hudak 10+2=12. Initiative Illes 19+2=21. Nice.

That gives us these initiatives:
Sefayll 22
Illes 21
Alwyn 15
Hudal 12
Camlo 10
Giants ?

Male Halfling Rogue/11 AC:26 HP: 92{92}

So Camlo pretty much fell asleep in the bushes waiting for the action?

Map.

The blue is the river. The grey is the bridge, the yellow is the road and the light green is short grass - all of this is normal terrain. The dark green is shrubs and small trees - this is difficult terrain, but it offers cover (and is probably where Camlo would be hiding).

Please place yourselves. From the conversation above, Sefayll will be in front within range to cast her spell, and Illes would be close enough to try his Fascinate. The rest of you would be near Illes.

Giant 1 is the one who is Charmed.

Giant 1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Giant 2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Giant 3 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17

Sefayll 22
Illes 21
Giant 3
Alwyn 15
Hudal 12
Camlo 10
Giant 2 9
Giant 1 7

Sefayll.

Enchantress 8/Oracle (flame) 1/Hellknight Signifier 2; AC 24, FF 21, T 15, CMD 19; F 8, R 9, W 14; hp 72/72; Init +4; Perc +6; Irresistible Demand 7/8; Effects: Flying disk, Overland Flight

Starting in T22, please.

Telepathically, the enchantress tells her 'new friend', "We are not here to fight you and your friends. Someone is controlling Mokmurian and using him to control the clans. That someone doesn't care about stone giants. You must make your friends understand or someone will get hurt."

She moves back toward the rest of the party. Effectively double move, just getting back behind the warriors.

Male Halfling Rogue/11 AC:26 HP: 92{92}

Q18 for Camlo

I don't think there's a reasonable chance of you being that far forward, Camlo, sneak attack or otherwise. The giants would have seen you coming. Try further back behind Sefayll.

Male Halfling Rogue/11 AC:26 HP: 92{92}

Go for Q23 then.

Anyone else? A bit quiet from a few people.

Male Human (Shoanti) Cleric 11

Alwyn's in S20. Hudak in U20. How about V22 for Illes?

Map updated.

You would be standing in behind Sefayll, not in front. I've adjusted accordingly.

Sefayll. You can get behind the warriors with a single move so you can consider something else in your turn.

Enchantress 8/Oracle (flame) 1/Hellknight Signifier 2; AC 24, FF 21, T 15, CMD 19; F 8, R 9, W 14; hp 72/72; Init +4; Perc +6; Irresistible Demand 7/8; Effects: Flying disk, Overland Flight

She's hoping that the charmed one might be able to talk the others down. Now that I see where the others are, she will hold her ground rather than retreating.

"We don't need to fight. We merely want to talk!"

She puts her helmet on. She will start using the detect thoughts focusing on Giant 2.

Illes.

Someone please take Illes' turn.

Illes will start to sing (Bardic performance, inspire courage) but otherwise wait for the giants to move.
