I couldn't get on to the site last night, and can't access the mmap or my NPC stats this morning as they are blocked at work (both are on Google docks). So a bit of a non-event...

With Camlo safely outnumbered for the moment, both Marl and Karlissa cast more protective and enhancing spells for the coming battle rather than attacking the halfling directly.

Marl looks nervous - he's never been fond of a fair fight, Camlo recalls. He pulls out a scroll. Karlissa draws two wickedly sharp kukris and looks uncomfortably competent in their use. "Don't worry, Camlo," she purrs, "We'll deal with your friends and then we can talk about payment for your efforts."

Vethran.

Camlo giggles nervously....

Male Human (Varisian) Wizard (Evoker) 9

Based on the fact that they suddenly appeared in front of him and he had see invisibility active, Vethran is going to take a risk here and guess these mastiffs are summoned creatures.

Vethran gathers up his energy and intones one of his most basic warding spells to prevent the mastiffs from harming him. Casting protection from evil defensively on myself. Concentration check (DC 17): 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (17) + 14 = 31. Successful.

After casting, he turns his attention towards his cousin. "Illes! Come to me and I will ward you against them! The greater threat lies ahead!"

5' step to AQ-16.

Illes.

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

Always the show off, Illes literally backflips away from the hounds briefly supporting himself on one arm rapier oustretched before completing the flip then sprints up the stairs to join Vethran. Laughing he calls out, "Are you kidding me with these guard dogs? I've see more ferocious hamsters than this!"

Acrobatics (Versatile Dance): 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (13) + 18 = 31 to avoid AoA
Move even with Vethran
Inspire Courage with Badge of Valor: +4 attacks/damage/saves vs fear

Hudak.

Hudak moves up to U 14.

Sefayll moves up to U 13. She casts black tentacles, centered on pq 8=9.
Arcane spell failure 15%; 1d100 ⇒ 75 1-15 being a fail.

Niiiice.

"Sorry Veth; Cam looks more outnumbered than you guys right now."

And now, for some thuggery.

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

FYI- I try to focus Illes Inspire Courage through bits of bravado usually (perform oratory but no roll is required). We are pretty spread outright now so I don't know how far his voice will carry the effect. Aubrey's call.

perception 1d20 ⇒ 16 Hudak

Sefayll's perception 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

OK, we are going to have to rewind slightly, because when Hudak rushes forwards he kicks off a series a readied actions which will then potentially influence what Sefayll does. Hudak has, unfortunately, not made the required Perception check against hidden assailants - you can see them on the map, but Hudak himself couldn't see them until they rush out to stab or shoot him. So he is flatfooted against the thug attacks (no DEX) but not Grugnar since he wasn't hiding.

First, thugs 4 and 6 move up and sneak attack Hudak, and thugs 5, 7, 10 and 12 shoot at him with poisoned arrows (no sneak attack for 10 and 12 due to distance). Then Grugnar (G) charges him. Then it's Sefayll's go.

Thug 4 attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 9 + 2 = 20 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3d6 ⇒ (6) + (1, 4, 5) = 16
Thug 6 attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 9 + 2 = 29 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3d6 ⇒ (4) + (6, 4, 5) = 19
Potential crit from Thug 6: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 = 19 to confirm, extra damage on confirmation 1d6 ⇒ 2

Thug 5 attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 10 - 2 = 9 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3d6 ⇒ (5) + (2, 1, 2) = 10
Thug 7 attack: 1d20 + 10 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 10 - 2 = 19 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3d6 ⇒ (5) + (1, 2, 3) = 11
Thug 10 attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23 to hit, damage 1d6 ⇒ 3
Thug 12 attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (9) + 10 = 19 to hit, damage 1d6 ⇒ 1
The poison is Bloodroot: Fort DC 12, one round before onset (i.e. damage stars next round), damage 1/round for 4 rounds, 1 CON and 1 WIS. Requires a single save to negate the effects. For each additional hit beyond the first, don't roll an additional save - roll only a single save each round, with the DC increased by 2 for each hit you have taken beyond the first.

Grugnar charges with a lucerne hammer, which has reach. 1d20 + 15 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 15 + 2 = 22 to hit, damage 1d12 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22

As Hudak enters the chamber, he is greeted by incoming arrows. Two thugs rush up to stab him while a dwarf, encased in heavy armour, stomps forward and swings at him with a polearm tipped with a hammerhead.

Sefayll.

Sefayll stays put.
She pops black tentacles on the intersection of pq 12-13; that should gunk up Mr. Lucerne Hammer and Thug Life Gangsta 4.

Move to AA 14 before casting Divine power on myself.

Thugs, thugs and more thugs.

I really should get to these things quicker - work has been a bit of a beast this week. P-Q/12-13 is down the pit, and won't have any impact if cast there. Please choose again.

In the meantime... Thugs 11 and 13 attack Camlo with bows.
Thug 11 attack: 1d20 + 10 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 10 + 1 + 1 = 28 to hit, damage 1d6 ⇒ 5 plus poison.
Thug 13 attack: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 10 + 1 = 19 to hit, damage 1d6 ⇒ 1 plus poison.
The poison is Bloodroot: Fort DC 12, one round before onset (i.e. damage stars next round), damage 1/round for 4 rounds, 1 CON and 1 WIS. Requires a single save to negate the effects. Arrows fly towards Camlo. The Mark smiles.

Vethran and Illes: S1 and S3 attack Illes, S2 and S4 attack Vethran. Sadly, these are not summoned.

S1: attack 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 15 to hit, damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 plus trip.
S2: attack 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 10 + 2 + 1 = 31 to hit, damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10 plus trip.
S3: attack 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 10 + 2 = 29 to hit, damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 plus trip.
S4: attack 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 2 = 31 to hit, damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 plus trip.

OK, that's probably three hits, one on Illes and two on Vethran. On a successful check, you are tripped and fall prone.
S2: CMB 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21 v CMD
S3: CMB 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 v CMD
S4: CMB 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13 v CMD

The massive hounds suge at Illes and Vethran, undeterred by Vethran's protective spell.

Camlo, although Sefayll's action needs probably to be established first.

Forget the tentacles. Sefayll flies to AI 13 before casting Charm monster on Shadow Mastiff 4. Will 21 negates.

Camlo.

OK, we'll say she delayed since that's based on what happened after her official place in the turn.

Will save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6.

The hound shakes its head, and looks back at Sefayll, and gives a doggie-grin.

Camlo.

Wow, that's hardcore! I'd have run the other way round, but not Camlo - he actually gets closer to the major NPCs who want him dead.

Have you seen how fast Camlo can run? He'd rather get behind his friends this week!!

Sefayll will try to identify what language, if any, the beast understands to see if she can command it either verbally or via her signifier mask's telepathy function. I believe the latter only requires that it understand any language as opposed to one she speaks.

Shadow mastiffs understand, but do not speak, Common.

Marl casts yet another protective spell. Karlissa smirks as Camlo dashes past. "Camlo darling, surely it will be safer for you in the pit?"

Suggestion, Will save DC 20, or Camlo decides jumping back in the pit is really the smartest option.

From his position on the floor, surrounded by the hounds, Vethran cautiously intones another spell...

Casting shield defensively. DC 17. 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19. Success.

As his shimmering barrier comes into being, the mage gives a nervous glance to his cousin before attempting to stand....

Yeah, that'll provoke 3 AoOs, but at least my AC is 23 now.

AoOs on Vethran:

Defensive Casting: 1d20 + 9 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 9 + 6 = 34
Charm Monster DC 21

Which one?

HP 78/67, AC 26, T 14, FF 23, CMD 21 Performance 37/37 CHA DAMAGE: 5

The other one between us and our allies to eliminate any flanking and enable withdraw actions that will leave friendly dogs between us and the mean ones. Speaking of- I better get up from prone and eat some AoO's to enable an escape.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Well, Vethran kindly took all the AoOs, so you are free to do what you want.

Will save 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13.

One of the hounds turns from an inky-black slavering embodiment of feral rage to a puzzled-looking overgrown black labrador.

Thugs and Grugnar next, but I need the map.

Thug 4 will tumble to get past Hudak: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 v DC of Hudak's CMD - on a fail, Hudak gets an AoO. Once he's in position, T4 and T6 attack Hudak with flanking.
T4 (if he survives): 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 9 + 2 = 19 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3d6 ⇒ (2) + (4, 1, 6) = 13
T6: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 9 + 2 = 17 to hit, damage 1d6 + 3d6 ⇒ (6) + (4, 3, 4) = 17

T7 shoots at Hudak.
T7: 1d20 + 10 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 1 - 4 = 10 to hit, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

T5, T10 and T12 shoot at Camlo.
T5: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 1 = 13 to hit, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
T10: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 to hit, damage 1d6 ⇒ 6
T12: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 1 = 16 to hit, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Grugnar has more fun with his big hammer, attacking Hudak:
Attack 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34 to hit, damage 1d12 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16 to hit, damage 1d12 + 15 ⇒ (8) + 15 = 23
Ouch! Critical threat against Hudak with the hammer: Attack 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17 to confirm, extra damage 1d12 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20

The Mark's men continue to defend the entrance to the room.

Hudak. The map needs to be updated - I'll do that tonight, but only T4 has moved - two squares to the east.

Male Halfling Rogue/11 AC:26 HP: 92{92}

Camlo nimbly avoids two the arrows, but the second one hits home.

if this is not true, aoo:
1d20 + 20 ⇒ (8) + 20 = 28 damage
1d10 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17

Then,......
ac 22;
T4's tumbling ass misses the mighty Hudak.
T6 sucks at his job as well; misses Hudak the Pretty.
T7 can't hit the broad side of a bulette.

"You need to go back to crossbow school; you played too much hooky!" says Hudak to the errant Hunger Games wannabe byoch that is T7.

Grungnar, however, is worrisome; Hudak doesn't get critted, but the first one hits.

"You're good, hammer boy. I'm gonna plant you, and see what grows."

The mighty Hudak's at 56 hp's of 95.

AND,........

Actually, since haste gives you a dodge bonus to AC, it also improves your CMD. So it's actually 23!

Only a fool bandies in sword-play with the mighty Hudak. He slashes one of the thugs as he tries to cartwheel past, finishing him with a thrust. The other's defence is batted aside and Hudak leaves him crumpled, awash with his own blood.
