Dravite Schorl |
Luok at dem! Dey be just racin' each udder ta see who be first fer dyin'!!
Step righ' oop, if it be death yer wantin' I be yer dealer!!!
5' step away, shooting the closest ogre. If I draw an AOO, so be it.
manyshot, deadly aim, bane, favored enemy...
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 282d8 + 32 ⇒ (6, 4) + 32 = 42 + 4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 1) = 9 First shot, 2 arrows AC28, 51 damage.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 151d8 + 16 ⇒ (8) + 16 = 24 + 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8 Second shot AC15, 32 damage.
Vethran Tallomane |
Seeing the nearest threats wiped away by Hudak's mightly blade, Vethran sets his sights on the ogre currently menacing the halfling. Taking aim with his wand, Vethran utters the command word and sends a searing lance at the creature.
Targeting G-H/15-16 with the wand of scorching ray. 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 to hit (thanks Illes!) and 4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 5) = 14 fire damage if it hits.
Alwyn Agnarrson |
5' step to K14 before attacking the ogre in KL 15-16. Attack 1: 7+9+1(haste)+2(Heroism)+5(bard)-2(Power attack)=AC 22, damage 7+5+6(PA)+5(bard)=23. Attack 2 (bonus from Haste): 4+9+1+2+5-2=AC 19, damage 4+5+6+5=20.
The spiritual weapon attacks the ogre in GH 15-16. Attack roll 11+6=AC 18, damage 5+2=7. Does bardic music help on this damage, BTW?
The ogres' turn.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
No, Bardic Music doesn't help.
Alwyn cuts down another ogre and the other is bombarded with fire and holy force. Barely alive, it turns and runs for the gate.
No one is close enough to get an AoO, so unless you wish to pursue it, G-H/15-16 is off the map and heading for the hills.
Meanwhile, the ogre targeted by Illes' Suggestion reaches the pool and flings itself in, face-down.
Moves to N-O/23-24 and is prone.
Elisile.
Dravite Schorl |
Davite's second shot plunges through an ogrish eye, and a second brute flops to the floor.
M-N/15-16 down.
Vethran.
ACH! Ye fooks! I be Dravite Schorl an I be yer damn'd host at dis here Arrow Extravaganza! We be havin' a special 'ere t'day. We'll be keelin' yerself and all yer fookin' giant-blooded buddies fer FREE! No fookin' wait, so ye be steppin' right up! Service wit' a sheit-eatin' smile ye dogs! HA!
Elisile Starbrow |
Elisile takes a 5 foot step to H9 and takes aim with her bow. Assuming it is in a straight line from the open gates she should be able to see it clearly. If it is literally running (rather than having made a double move) it will be at one range increment, so I’ll factor in a -2 range penalty to these shots.
Rapid shot, haste, favoured enemy, bardic bonus etc.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17 Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 + fire 1d6 ⇒ 6 + electricity 1d6 ⇒ 4
Attack 2: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17 Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 + fire 1d6 ⇒ 5 + electricity 1d6 ⇒ 5
Attack 3: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 + fire 1d6 ⇒ 5 + electricity 1d6 ⇒ 1
Any excess hits go to the ogre in the pond if applicable.
EDIT: Wow those are some truly craptacular to hit rolls. If the ogre didn't make it more than 120 feet away from Elie (ie, he didn't 'run', add 2 to the rolls.
Elisile Starbrow |
everybody but the bathing beauty and the runner are dead, right?
Actually its possible that Elisile’s first two shots will hit ( Ithink I hit with about a 17 or 18 before), in which case at 43 points of damage she’ll probably finish off a standard ogre.
Alwyn Agnarrson |
Alwyn chuckles bemusedly as the huge ogre splashes into the pool of filthy drinking water. "It's time to end this. Let him come to us, though."
5' step to K15. I'm using my Channel energy class ability - everybody within 30' (i.e. everybody but Dravite) regains 4d6=15 hp.
The spiritual weapon moves over to the prone ogre swimmer and attacks him. Attack roll 13+6+4(prone target)=AC 23, damage 5+2=7.
Being prone in the water, the ogre can't really get to us for a couple of rounds, so this is the time to start softening him up. I'll use another channel next round to restore even more health to everybody.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Being prone in the water, the ogre can't really get to us for a couple of rounds.
Is that right?
As the blows continue to rain down, the ogre jerks up from the pool, it's pimply face a mask of outrage. It homes in the nearest possible assailant - Hudak - and lumbers frm the water, hook clutched in its meaty fist. Clearly it has water in its eyes as the swing misses by miles.
Stand up from prone, half-charge to K-L/20-21. Attack roll: 1d20 + 16 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 16 - 3 + 2 = 16, damage 3d6 + 22 ⇒ (5, 4, 6) + 22 = 37.

Elisile.
I often let the tie go to the runner on that myself....saves bookkeeping headaches.

Not so fast! I took the Selective Channeling feat just to avoid embarrassing mishaps like that.

I'd say so. Standing up from prone is a move action, charging is a full-round action - he can't do both. He can move over to Hudak, but he can't attack.
Elisile Starbrow |
Elisile takes a 5 foot step to H9 and looses several more flaming, crackling arrows at the remaining ogre.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17, Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 + fire: 1d6 ⇒ 2 + electricity: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Attack 3: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31, Damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 + fire: 1d6 ⇒ 5 + electricity: 1d6 ⇒ 5

You dare to doubt the All-seing Aub? Unless they changed it for Pathfinder, you can do a half-charge, up to your move, as a standard action. To be fair, that might just be for surprise rounds. I'll just check.
EDIT: Yep, fine, you win - you can only do the half-charge if you have only a single action a round. So he's where he is, but not attacking. Anyway, puts him nicely for Hudak to finish off.
Alwyn Agnarrson |
Huzzah! That was a hard, but satisfying battle. There were times when I thought we were done for, but it turned out well at the end.
"And now the hard work begins... Somebody go get the horses; we'll use them to drag the bodies out of here. I'll put their ugly mugs on stakes around the perimeter. The ogres will never dare return here once I'm done."
Alwyn Agnarrson |
"It's a valid point. Let's search the rest of the premises before we declare victory. We may be lucky and find more combat along the way."
I'll use another channeling to heal up everybody as we look over the rest of the courtyard and the adjoining buildings. Everybody gets 14 hit points back once we get going.
Camlo Zenovia |
"Do you hear something, Camlo? I don't know much about anything, but I know to trust your ears over my own...."
says Hudak, goresplashed, blooddrunk, spoiling for more ogrecarnaging.
"Ah, ermm, no, I don't ahh, hear anything as yet. I was startled by the sudden end to them. It is certainly interesting being around you big people."
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
The heroes perform a sweep of the keep, but while there is plenty of evidence of ogrish depravity, it seems they have slain the creatures who carried it out.
2743xp each. Just so you know, you killed 17 normal ogres and three tough ogres in that encounter.
The tough ogres all have the same equipement - so multiply this three times (I'll just let you know rather than make you roll, since you will have time to sit down and study it if you so choose):
- potion of Cure Moderate Wounds
- +1 Large hide shirt
- +1 Large ogre hook
- Large masterwork composite longbow (+7 STR)
The normal ogres have nothing of value.
Alwyn Agnarrson |
"There's a lot of work that needs to be done. As we don't know the names of the rangers who died here, we'll build them a proper cairn instead of putting them in individual graves. We need to gather the ogre and lamia bodies and burn them - otherwise the corpses will attract dangerous predators. We need to put up some mementoes of our triump, so that future raiders will stay far away. And, finally, we need to return to Turtleback Ferry and tell them what happened here."
Alwyn scratches his beard. "And that's before we deal with the Mokmurian character behind this. Hell, this installation needs repair as well... But first, we must get our horses and camping gear."
