UMD 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
I have phenomenally bad luck with UMD. I only fail on 5 or lower for a wand yet have managed to fail the last 4 times or so. In fact this is the first time I've managed to UMD activate a wand and it took two tries. So that was two rounds before we went up the stairs, or one round and the second being my first action of this fight if we had already dropped into init.

The walls within this enormous chamber are mounted with dozens of trophy antlers, some taken from stags that must have stood as tall as dire bears. Most of the antlers are draped with bits of rotten flesh, strips of skin, or coils of viscera. To the west, a marble altar has been heaped with the mangled remains of at least a half-dozen dead men and women. A crude image of what might be a three-eyed jackal has been painted in blood on the wall above the altar’s alcove.
A huge ogre sits calmly amidst the carnage, sewing together a hideous taxidermist's nightmare of the remains of men, woman, horses, giant eagles and gods know what else. More of these hang from bloody hooks from the celing: men with eagles heads, a horse with a woman’s face where its own face once drooped, dead men with huge sets of antlers jutting from their bodies, and men with stags’ heads and hooves. The ogre turns its head as Camlo opens the door, then reaches in fairly unperturbed fashion for its ogrehook.
Coordinates of the room: D-E/2-6, C/3-6 and B/4-5. The altar sits in the alcove at B/4-5. The ogre is at D-E/3-4.
Ogre's inititative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11. However, you get an action in the surprise round as he is surprised.

Before I decide what to do, Is the statue in the alcove going to hinder me standing there to attack (assuming I can pull a couple of m4d l33t acrobatics checks?
Good spot, it was typoed, but not in the way you assumed, as below:
Coordinates of the room: D-F/2-6, C/3-6 and B/4-5. The altar sits in the alcove at B/4-5. The ogre is at D-E/3-4.
Also, it's not a statue in the alcove but an altar to Erastil (desecrated with the image of Lamashtu). So you can stand on it to your heart's content, and get a +1 to hit for standing on higher ground (assuming you still get that in PF). Also, the ogre is flatfooted in the surprise round so you can just walk over to it if you desire.

I'll fix the map in a while then.

I would have expected it to get an AoO when I move through/past it, I'll stick an acrobatics check in there JIC...
Camlo takes a couple of running steps towards the Ogre, and throws himself towards the alter, sliding along the floor, and scrambling up the other side in a stunning display of halfling agility...(Put Camlo in B5)
Acrobatics:1d20 + 18 ⇒ (12) + 18 = 30
Elisile Starbrow |
I won’t shoot the messenger. I’ll shoot the ogre.
Recovering from her momentary shock and disgust, Elisile raises her bow and fires at the ogre. Shock bow: 18 + 9 + 2 (ranger) + 1 (PBS) = 30. Damage: 7 + 1 + 2 (ranger) + 1 (PBS) + 6 (electrical) = 17
Alwyn Agnarrson |
"Hah! Here, come pick on someone your own size!" Alwyn jams his greatsword into the ogre's face.
No move, obviously. I'm using Power Attack and Destructive Smite (3 more uses left today). Attack roll 14+9-2(door cover)-2(Power Attack)+1(higher ground, as I'm Large and he's sitting down)=AC 20, damage 3d6+6(STR)+1(weapon)+6(Power Attack)+3(Destructive Smite)=29.
Hudak moves to f3. that's my surprise round move.
Reckon we're waiting for round one actions, right?
You're not going to use your Lunge feat this round and then step 5' into him next turn?

Hmmm, +2 to attack. Please, no one kill the ogre before I get to see what +12/+10 1d4+4d6+4(bleed)/1d3+4d6+4(bleed) looks like, vs a flanked ogre.....

I cannot be held responsible for the fact that I just cast true strike and have two empowered scorching rays prepared. I'm sorry.
Alwyn Agnarrson |
Once again, now with magical effects. Turns out there's a bunch of 'em.
Initiative:
Veth 20 : Cat's grace, Protection from arrows - +4 DEX, DR 10 vs missiles
Camlo 18 : Cat's grace - +4 DEX
Elisile 15+ : Cat's grace, Shield - +4 DEX, +4 AC
Hudak 15- : Bull's strength, Protection from evil, Heroism - +4 STR, +2 AC, +2 attack bonus
Alwyn 12 : Enlarge person, Heroism, Shield of faith - +2 atk, +3 AC, Large size
Ogre 11
Illes 4 : Alter self, Eagle's splendor - +2 STR, +4 CHA
Vethran Tallomane |
Vethran ascends the remaining stairs with conviction, passing Illes in the hallway and beginning an incantation as he steps into position. Move to H4.
Drawing upon the power of his magics, the Varisian unleashes white-hot beams of blinding fire from across the hallway, each one lancing into the ogre's ample form.
Empowered scorching ray. Ray #1 (benefitting from true strike): 1d20 + 10 + 20 ⇒ (12) + 10 + 20 = 42 to hit, dealing 6d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 3, 6, 5) + 3 = 32 fire damage. Ray #2: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29 to hit, dealing 6d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 1, 3, 6, 4) = 18 fire damage.
Elisile Starbrow |
Hmmm... Just in case this 'something' involves more ogres pouring out of the doors next to me, my net AC after including all the magical goings-on is 24 (touch AC 12).
If for the same reason you need Elisile's AC it is also 24 at the moment.
Camlo Zenovia |
Camlo takes a step forward and then attacks with rapier and punching dagger,
Rapier Atk: 1d20 + 12 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 12 + 3 = 29 Damage: 1d4 + 4d6 + 4d6 ⇒ (3) + (1, 5, 5, 4) + (4, 6, 2, 1) = 31
Dagger Atk: 1d20 + 10 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 10 + 3 = 20 Damage: 1d3 + 4d6 + 4d6 ⇒ (2) + (3, 1, 2, 4) + (2, 6, 6, 3) = 29
SURPRISE TIME!!!
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Camlo stabs twice and blood spurts.
By the way, need a square from Camlo.
Revised initiative:
Veth 20
Camlo 18
Masked ogre 17
Elisile 15+
Hudak 15-
Female ogre 14
Alwyn 12
Ogre 11
More ogres 10
Illes 4
The door at the end of the corridor opens (at G8) and an ogrish face peers out. Strapped to the lower half of it is a ghastly metal contraption, a metal set of jaws seemingly replacing its natural teeth. The creature gives a muffled grunt and and ogrehook reaches for Alwyn. Behind lurks another ogre, this one seemingly a female judging by its sagging dugs and the incongruous pink dress it wears.
Yes, ogres in pink dresses. Will the horror never end?
Masked ogre is at F-G/9-10. Female ogre is at F-G/12-13
Masked ogre's attack on Alwyn: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22, damage 3d6 + 24 ⇒ (5, 3, 5) + 24 = 37
Elisile and then Hudak.
Elisile Starbrow |
Elisile glances past Alwyn’s enlarged form at the new arrivals, but keeps her main focus on their original opponent, hoping to take it out of the fight.
Using rapid shot with bow. Should first shot take this guy down, she will switch targets, firing through Alwyn’s space at Jaws for the second shot, though he will get at least a +4 AC bonus due to cover from Alwyn against that attack. If the first ogre goes down from either Elisile’s first or second attacks, she will take a 5 foot step to G4.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 21, Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3 + (2) = 12
Attack 2: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 7 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 34, Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 1 + 2 + 3 + (1) = 10
Second attack looks like a possible crit, if so: crit confirm roll: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 7 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 20, Damage: 2d8 + 4 + 2 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 4 + 2 + 4 + 6 = 20 (I don’t think I triple the electrical damage from shocking quality, right?)
