Thanks Stomphoof. I’m glad you have noticed / enjoyed the change in Elisile’s character. She’s certainly opened up and begun to reveal more of her true nature, as well as understand and appreciate humans and human customs. She’s realised that she no longer needs to refer to everyone by their full name, although I don’t think she’s quite shaken the compunction against referring to enemies or the deceased by their name. Sooner or later she might even start using abbreviations in her speech!

She’s a bit underpowered in combat (I guess that is the lot of the multiclass character, also I didn’t really know which direction to take her initially, so some of her feat choices are a bit off) but does ok, and she is ‘pretty good’ at a lot of different things, which I like.

What are you currently playing in pbp?

Poor Malcolma Vattnissa ... ;-P

Mine is Aurora. Well, and Loki, but Loki is a cat.

You crazy Gen Y’ers and your crazy name ideas!

Seriously, that is a beautiful name. I like ‘A’ names for girls, though I didn’t think of that for Abigail (Allegra, Arwen and Ariadne were all on the list, but we decided to go a bit more traditional).

I have yet to actually START a game. I am going to be in 2.

One is this guy: Roger McCuen, self taught human Monk

And the other (and the one I am really excited about playing) is this one: Terrick Kelstone, Half Orc Summoner and friend of Nesser!

You seem to be doing fine in combat, and your scouting skills have been keepin your group out of trouble from what I can see!

I am honestly kinda confused as to why you didn't go Sorcerer but I assume its for variety rather then more spells per day. Ever time you cast a fire spell I was like "How much damage is this bad boy gonna roll!" Love it. Your RPing is exceptional as well!

First of all, it's VETHran, and thank you for the praise. As for my choice of class, well, here's the thing:

  • We already have a bard. Another CHA-based character was unnecessary, plus at the beginning of the game, Elisile was a ranger and thus we had no primary arcanist at all. Knowledge skills + high INT = useful.
  • If you examine my character sheet, you'll notice that I opted for the Focused Specialist variant, which gives me just as many (if not more) spells per day than a sorcerer of the same level.
  • Wizards get higher spell levels sooner. Seriously, that right there is reason enough.
  • Wizards are the most awesome class ever in the history of D&D. It's all about the variety. Even with 3 opposed schools, I have a shocking array of spells available to me, and it's only going to get bigger once I get a chance to go shopping again.
  • No seriously, wizards rule.
  • I hate sorcerers.

Ariadne is a pretty name as well. I originally wanted to name our daughter Avarice, but my wife found out what it meant and shot me down. :(

Just to let you know, I will be going on holiday from Thursday for just over a week or so. I won't have any internet access in this time.

Qadira (No peeking, please Rarely Accountant 2/Auditor 4/Waster 30)

Guys, very sorry for my recent absence - I've been busy at work and busy doing stuff that needed to be done before we go on holiday in the evening. I'm on holiday today and won't be around until about Saturday next week.

    Andoran (Male Mothman Expert 5)

Welcome back Aubrey. How were the wilds of Wales? Did you catch all the 'excitement' of the royal wedding out there?

    gyoik

Qadira (No peeking, please Rarely Accountant 2/Auditor 4/Waster 30)

Not really - little sign it was going on there. We missed the ceremony as we were visiting a garden at the time before heading to my mum and dad's for a couple of days, but caught some of the highlights. Personally I'm not a republican (though that is different to saying I'm an ardent royalist) though my wife leans more to "What's the point of the monarchy?", but mainly I don't find the fuss very interesting. It looked like a nice service from what I saw, but there is no way you would catch me amongst the crowds - something I would regard with horror.

Actually, for us the main thing has been our first holiday with little man, so we could go out and do stuff while timing things around his meals and sleep times, which was a success. It's a lovely, if very quiet, part of the world down there.

Fortunately the roads are terrible in Wales, so they didn't get to Lampeter.

    Hey, Aub......
I figured out how to make those spreadsheet maps in google docs....
    wow. It's easy.

Do you know, though, if there's a way to standardize "colums" in one fell swoop like rows, or do you have to do each damn column alone?

I was making maps in Google Maps and what I did was actually make an excell / open office sheet with standardized rows and columns and then uploaded that to Google Docs. You gotta trick it though by putting something at the far edges of your "map space" so Google doesnt cut out rows or columns.

Qadira (No peeking, please Rarely Accountant 2/Auditor 4/Waster 30)

What the man says. I use Excel to actually create the map, and then import it into Google docs. It's interesting that Open Office works too - I use Microsoft products but Open Office is free, and I know you don't have Excel, Heathy.

However, to format every square in Google docs (including for column width) what you do is find the little square with no reference that sits at the top left-hand corner - above 1 and to the left of A - and click on it. That highlights the whole sheet. If you then adjust the column width for a single column, that will then be copied to all columns. (It works like that in Excel too.)

Andoran (Manwolf Werewoof upper middle class twit 5)

    huh.....not doing what I want.
    meh....I'll play with it.
Rome wasn't built in a day.

Qadira (No peeking, please Rarely Accountant 2/Auditor 4/Waster 30)

Font size is important too - it can play havoc with row height and so on.

Cheliax (Male Human (Gamer subtype) Dungeon Master 15/Father 4/Husband 5)

I have a plan. It's one of those "Boy I really hope this doesn't get me killed" plans, but it is a plan. I intend to get some use out of my "worthless" utility spells that I prepped today, not expecting a riverboat ambush.

Unfortunately, by leaving the boat, I'm going to dispel the tiny hut in the process. Hopefully the boggards aren't chomping at the bit to let loose with more arrows when that happens. I got the impression from the narrative that the froghemoth had scared them off.

    "I have a plan..."

    Famous last words ;)

    Andoran (Male Mothman Expert 5)

Ah, but is it a cunning plan?

Not sure if you meant to Mothman, but I love the Jaws quote, "We're gonna need a bigger boat." It had me rolling.

Had to dredge this from the archives, if you wish to thank me for this service I take payment in the form of adult beverages. :)

Yup, that was the reference .... I'm glad someone noticed! I went to type it and I could't remember if the actual quote is 'we're gonna need a bigger boat' or 'I think we need a bigger boat' or some other variation - anyone shed some light?

I'm a fan of adult beverages, though unless you find yourself in Sydney any time soon we might need to settle for virtual ones.

    Gentlemen,

My wife and I have decided to move from Arizona to Norway. I'm leaving in a couple of weeks, and she'll come after (with the baby and the dog) in the fall. Right now we're in packing mode.

SO - I'm going to be rather busy over the next two weeks; then I'll fly home and switch to Aubreytime. So my posting routine is going to be both a bit more restrained than usual, and then change to a different timeslot after that.

Wow. Arizona to Norway. And here I thought moving from Arizona to New York was a climate extreme! Best wishes on your trip and we'll see you in the land of lutefisk! *shudder*

Whoa! Big change! Has your wife been learning any Norwegian?

Wow, big change, though I guess it's been the plan for a while. Good luck with everything!

    Andoran (Male Human Expert 5)

Moving update: We're starting to move stuff into storage tomorrow, and will cancel our cable and internet as of Friday. After that I expect to be mostly busy until Thursday, before getting on the plane on Sunday. So I really don't think I'll be around much over the next ten days or so.

Alwyn's basically out of offensive spells. So next round he'll fly into melee with Froggy after Elisile gets him airborne. No Power Attack - use my cleric domain powers to add damage instead.

Cheliax (Male Human (Gamer subtype) Dungeon Master 15/Father 4/Husband 5)

Level up time! +1 level of wizard for me (duh).

With Aubrey's permission, I'd like to choose an Arcane Discovery from Ultimate Magic in place of my 10th-level bonus wizard feat. Specifically this one:

    Ultimate Magic wrote:
Opposition Research: By completing strenuous studies, you have broken through the mental barriers that made it hard for you to prepare spells from one of your opposition schools. Select one wizard opposition school; preparing spells of this school now only requires one spell slot of the appropriate level instead of two, and you no longer have the –4 Spellcraft penalty for crafting items from that school. You must be at least a 9th-level wizard to select this discovery.

I would be choose Transmutation, leaving Illusion and Enchantment still prohibited. That'll be at 10th-level, though. I'm taking Spell Penetration this level. :)

    As for the other stuff:
    Hit die: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 EDIT: Ugh. Guess that's 5 hit points, then, thanks to Aubrey's house rule!
Spells added: suffocation, wall of force
    Feat: Spell Penetration

Qadira (No peeking, please Rarely Accountant 2/Auditor 4/Waster 30)

    Yes, that's fine.

    Andoran (Male Mothman Expert 5)

Elisile levelled up as a wizard too (if I levelled up as an Eldritch Knight I wouldn’t get the two free spells known, so would be left with the ability to cast 4th level spells without knowing any). Also had to take advantage of Aubrey’s house rule on hit points after my roll of 2.

    Andoran (Male Human Expert 5)

Alwyn's updated. I took one more level of cleric; I rolled a 6 for hit points and his new feat is Vital Strike.

(male Human Shoanti Fighter 9 xp 52,496)

    hit points:
    1d10 ⇒ 6

(male Human Shoanti Fighter 9 xp 52,496)

    I took critical focus.

Man,......fighters are pretty heinous in Pathfinder.....

    Andoran (Male Human Expert 5)

Another nice feature is that since you now have a +9 BAB, you can take 3-point power attacks. That's +9 damage when you attack 2-handed!

(male Human Shoanti Fighter 9 xp 52,496)

    LOLOLLOLOL I am a f#&%ing monster.

You could always fill the slots with extended 3rd-level spells, though. Extended haste, extended fly, extended displacement, etc.

We're about to hit Magnimar, at which point you could shop for all the 4th-level scrolls you can handle (Vethran will be adding numerous spells to his book once we arrive). But of course, more wizard levels are always nice. I have nine of them, after all. :)

    Andoran (Male Mothman Expert 5)

I did consider that. I haven’t really got my head around metamagic feats yet after all these years – when is it better to prepare a metamagiced version of a lower level spell over a higher level spell etc. Though not having enough spells of the higher level to fill your slots is probably a good time!

I also wasn’t sure if Aubrey had any more encounters planned before we hit Magnimar. At this level, wizard was probably a more advantageous choice in all respects except hit points anyway.

Hi guys, how are we doing with the game. I've noticed (with a few exception) we have slowed the posting rate a bit of late, and I know I'm partly responsible as I was a bit patchy for a month or so. Plus a few of you are busy with Stuff. Are we still all OK?

    Andoran (Male Human Expert 5)

And then I'm back home in Norway! I'll be catching up over the next couple of days.

Oh, and I'm really liking the game. It feels good to have a bit of action outside the AP path.

Yeah, I'm fine. This particular week is a little insane for me, but otherwise good. Vethran isn't much for socializing anyway, so my silence is just as much in-character as out. Once we get to Magnimar for the shopping spree, things ought to get busier for a bit. I have a great many spells to buy.

Caught between digging out boxes and closets to wash /everything/ we own and the bureaucracy of making this baby official now that we are back in the city. Right now he doesn't have a name as far as the state is concerned because they expect you do do that through the church with an orthodox baptism at their one year birthday and we're trying to take care of that as neither of us are religious in general or orthodox in particular. Spent half of today officially declining the basic state insurance so that we could go to another office and sign him up for his mother's work related insurance. Yay bureaucracy!

Anyway- I think our house will be looking like a home in the next 2-3 days and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next in the game.

Haven't had time to do the level up yet, but I'll try to get that and a post up tonight.
