16/41 HP. 2 surges spent. 1 AP spent. AC 22, Fort 20, Ref 17, Will 19.

The brogh continues hurling rocks at the "defilers".
Brogh A chucks a rock at Jareen: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17 v AC, damage 2d10 + 6 ⇒ (3, 3) + 6 = 12 and the target is pushed 2 and falls prone.

Pacha jabs at Arno. He then slips around the guardsman to attack Brinka from behind.
Attack on Arno: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 v AC, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9, then shift, then Attack on Brinka: 1d20 + 8 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 8 - 2 + 2 = 24 v AC (-2 as Arno marked him, +2 for flanking with Brogh B), damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

The other brogh makes a grab for Brinka.
1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 2 = 28 v AC (+2 for flanking with Pacha), damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 and the target is grabbed.

The pyreen stabs at Chem with his bone sword, though hand-to-hand combat is clearly not his forte.
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24 v AC, damage 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Tek crouches behind the pyreen, eyes darting about as he sizes up the situation. He finally comes a decision. Hands still tied together in a bulky knot, he moves with surprising speed and silence. Fists bunched together, his fists bunched together and made tougher by the roped binding them, he moves behind the pyreen and raises his arms to slam down on the back of the siltrunner messiah's head.
1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 22 v AC, damage 1d6 + 7 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 7 + (6, 5) = 23

Tek's blow nearly forces the pyreen to the ground, but the creature is slippery. It drops and rolls, evading Tek's follow-up and moving between the legs of the elemental and out of reach.
Triggered action allows the pyreen to shift 3 if attacked in melee. The pyreen is now bloodied.

Most unlikely.

Irivis crawls towards the Pyreen, swearing under her breath and failing again.

Yes, extremely unlikely.

Irivis' power creates a mild psychic ripple, but no perceptible surge.

Chem, Grak, Arakan, Arno and Brinka. Arakan often handles these but he's likely out for a few days, so someone else take their turns, please.

Map updated.

I'll give it a go. I'm a bit reticent at running the NPCs, because I still feel like a complete noob at 4e style tactical combat.

Chem, seeing that Grak, Arno, and Brinka are handling the Brogh, steps round the melee to target the Pyreen. Move to M16, I think taking an AOO from the earth elemental. Attack the pyreen with Brutal Cut 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11 vs AC, damage 3d10 + 5 ⇒ (9, 4, 8) + 5 = 26.

Grak attacks the Brogh, inspiring those around him to redouble their efforts. Lead the Attack vs AC, 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24, damage 3d10 + 5 ⇒ (2, 5, 8) + 5 = 20. On a hit, everyone within 5 squares gets +2 to attack until end of Grak's next turn. On a miss, half damage, and everyone gets +1.

Arakan singles out the so called pyreen, seeking to distract him - "This is no prophet, these are simple conjuring tricks". Vicious Mockery vs Will 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 2 = 28, damage 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10. On hit the target suffers -2 to attack until end of Arakan's next round.

Arno simply attacks the Brogh with all his might. Brutal Cut 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 7 + 2 = 21 vs AC, damage 3d10 + 5 ⇒ (4, 9, 2) + 5 = 20.

I can't get at my books to reread the 'being grabbed by a brogh' section of the rules. What can Brinka do about it? How can she try to escape its grasp?

To escape a grab, you make an Athletics (DC = grabber's Fort) or Acrobatics (DC = grabber's Ref).

More precisely, it is a move action to try to escape a grab.

Brinka struggles to escape the Brogh's grasp. I think the best I can do is choose Acrobatics and roll the dice - but I don't know Brinka's Acrobatics skill. Here goes 1d20 ⇒ 4

Athletics would have been better, but he still would have failed. Their stats are on the home page for this campaign so you could infer the bonus, but a 4 wouldn't cut it either way. Brinka's still got a Standard and a Minor, so he can try to escape again or just hit the bugger.

M Mul Shaman 2 Elemental Priest

Brinka decides escape is likely not an option and decides to try and kill the brogh.

Arno's saving throw: 1d20 ⇒ 20

Chem swings at the pyreen and misses, taking a tap from the elemental as he moves into position. But Arakan doesn't, his magically-amplified jibe beating down on the would-be messiah's spirit.

Meanwhile, between them, Arno, Brinka and Grakl bring down one of the giants.

Phew! That took a while, but we got there in the end. Jareen.

By the way I never got a response from Jareen to the rock chucked at him by Brogh A - I think it hit, but I'm not sure how many hp he has. Also, the map hasn't been updated for movement - as a reminder, Chem is now in M16. I'll do it when I get home tonight.

Huge apologies all. Got diconnected for a few days but am now back and fully operational. Playing catch up now.

Noticed you were a bit quiet, but we haven't been rushing lately. And I still haven't updated the map. And it's still Jareen's turn.

You used a ranged power while standing next to Pacha, so he gets an AoO: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15 v AC, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12.

Gorad's attack leaves the Pyreen tottering. Pacha hisses and stabs at the mul shaman, and more missiles rain down from the assembled crowd.

Again, please roll the army attacks on yourselves - remember, this is ranged so if you are prone you get +2 to your AC.

21 (+3)/41 HP. No longer bloodied. AC 22, Fort 20, Ref 17, Will 19 at start of turn..

Calla winces as a massive stone fist whistles past her face, missing my inches as she jerks her head back in a desperate dodge. She feels the bolstering energy of Gorad's magic reduce the pain of her many wounds. A little, at least.

Army attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14, damage 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5.

Missiles fall all around her, but Calla's weaving, jerking, fighting style avoids serious hurt.

She attacks the elemental with steely focused determination, sensing that this fight needs to end quickly. Delay only serves the pyreen, in this place of his gathered strength.

Steel unity strike: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15, damage 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (8, 3, 1) + 5 = 17. Half damage on a miss, so 8 damage.

Aubrey - I think that Chem had marked the Pyreen when it attacked Gorad. Does that allow Chem to do anything? I checked the campaign page but didn't see how marks work for these guys.

The pyreen isn't attacking Gorad - the crowd is - unless you mean Pacha, who isn't marked any more as Arno didn't attack him last round. However, the marking that the ABC guys inflict is a standard monster marking ability, inflicting a -2 but not allowing an opportunity attack. This type of marking isn't very spelled out in the rules but I think it's in the MM.

Thanks Aubrey - reading comprehension fail on my part, you clearly say that its Pacha rather than the Pyreen in your post.

Calla's attack doesn't trouble the elemental.

OK, waiting for Jareen to attack himself.

The remaining brogh, furious with Jareen's defiling darts, charges up to Jareen and swings at him with its fist.
Moves up to Jareen, provoking an AoO from Irivis if she has a weapon to hand. Meanwhile, it attacks Jareen:
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 v AC, damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 and Jareen is grabbed on a hit.
That's a miss, so he blows his action point and has another go:
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13 v AC, damage 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 and Jareen is grabbed on a hit.

The pyreen staggers back from Chem, and blasts at him with spirits of storm.
Shift 1, then 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 v Fort, damage 1d10 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15. On a hit, Chem is blinded and takes 5 ongoing (save ends both). That's a crit - max damage = 16.

Pacha stabs at Arno and Brinka.
Arno: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19 v AC, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Brinka: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12 v AC, damage 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12

I think we can take that as a "no".

Irivis can only grab futilely at the Brogh's ankles as she tries to crawl clear.

No point in staying there. It gets an OA, but basically anything that hits her will kill her, and she really doesnt' want to be next to it. If she survives, move to S18.

If Gorad is down, do we lose SandSwimmer?

Chem tries, at first, to just maintain his footing. The ground around the elemental being so unsteady, and the resounding thunder from earlier still ringing in his ears. Swinging blindly, he settles for the one thing that should be easiest to find, the big earthen creature. It turns out to not be as easy as he had hoped, but he does clear his vision and get the ringing to stop.

The pyreen takes Arakan's dart in the eye, and he falls twitching to the ground. The earth elemental crumbles into inert sand as Pacha shrieks, "They have killed the pyreen!"

"No!" snarls Dooz, "The true pyreen would not fall so easily!" and he draws an obsidian blade and hurls it at the erstwhile champion of the pyreen. The other two silt-runner leaders draw their weapons as their followers roar with rage, picking their sides. The camp erupts as tribal rivalries, suppressed by the pyreen's will, immediately re-emerge now that he is dead. Silt-runner turns on silt-runner in an orgy of violence, the soft-skins momentarily forgotten.

Grak quickly apprasies the situation, stoops and yanks up Gorad by his armpits. "Wake up, you bugger! We're getting out of here!"

Gorad spend a healing surge. You've got now a skill challenge to get out of the camp in one piece. Let me know what skills you are using and why. Also, if you prefer, you can make a basic attack (melee or ranged) instead of a skill check: the DC is 15 for a skill, or 17 for a basic attack.

Away you go.

Male Human Wizard 4 HP: 18/31 AC: 11 Treasure XP

How does that work, if a magic missile is a basic attack, but doesn't require a roll :D Not that I'm trying to cheat the system, but if people are running, Jareen would be throwing fire balls as fast as he can spin them....

That's Stealth really, rather than Bluff, but you succeed anyway. Assuming Jareen uses a Magic Missile, that's two successes and no failures so far.

Works for me ;) Take that as Jareen's first action.

Arakan almost crumples as the Pyreen drops, ready to relax now that it's over. The crowds erupt instead, and he feels like he's off the spit, and into the fire. He tries to yell to Calla above the masses, pointing at the mul Tek, "Bring him with us, don't let him get away!". He then puffs up his chest, bears his hand crossbow, and tries to use his presence to move unmolested from the chaos. "Do NOT stand in my way, I am the slayer of false prophets, and herald of the true pyreen!" as he tries to return to his previous false persona, despite the fact that it wasn't fully accepted in the first place.

Eh, I'm not allowing that - seems pretty tenuous to me. But since it's a 14, and the DC is 15, anything faintly appropriate in which you have a scintilla of skill should suffice. Let's choose Athletics...
