Treated myself to a Hotel Chocolat Rocky Road extra thick egg. This is a reward for nearly finishing my PGCE and also getting a job last week.

M Humanborn

Is this an England thing? My boss gave me some plastic eggs filled with jellybeans.

Human

I thought chocolate eggs were pretty universal, which only goes to show how wrong you can be.

NOW IN TECHNICOLOR!

We have Cadbury Eggs here. They're chocolatey.

M Humanborn

Yeah. From the similarity of their posts, I thought it was perhaps more universal over there, much like chocolate rabbits in the US. More than just chocolate eggs with weird goop inside of them, but actual good-sounding types of chocolate eggs.

Human

Very good types, but you have to hunt for them. Mostly it's just goop inside very thin chocolate and instant sugar overload. Plus a gazillion adverts for what to do with a Cadbury Egg.

M Humanborn

Ah. I guess my reason was short-circuited by jealousy for your rocky road extra thick chocolate egg.

Human

You have reason to be jealous. It's well on the way to sublime.

RE: Alignment:

yeah, i prefer to just act as i think the character would react. the things that have a mechanical effect based on alignment are rarely used, in my experience, except certain good vs evil dynamics. i'd rather act what i feel and have a DM tell me the [Lawful] spell does full damage to me than write down that I am chaotic and feel like i have to act that way.

I agree. It's a fairly crude guide to roleplaying but I think it misses a lot of subtlety if you are really into roleplaying and just gets in the way if you just prefer to more-or-less play yourself.

male Mul Fighter 4 EXP 3873

That's why I'm chaotic neutral. I can do what I want.

Computer is fixed. I'll be catching up over the course of this week to get caught back up. Apologies for the delays.

Human

Hope it wasn't anything too serious/expensive and just annoying (if that makes sense).

No worries - I've been quite busy and not very available myself.

On disenchanting, the rules state that you get residuum worth 20% of the value of the item you have disenchanted. There are some supplementary rules around whether an item is Common, Uncommon or Rare and how much residuum you get. Residuum is used as a ritual component but also is used to create magic items (if you know the ritual and are the right level).

However, since I am pretty bad at handing our treasure, and DS likewise tends not to be especially generous in that regard as a setting, you might choose to disenchant an item and turn it into something else (assuming you get to learn how to enchant items and have residuum of the requisite value). So the residuum take on disenchanting an item will be 80% in this game. For the orb itself, this will be several thousands of gp.

Cool, thanks.

I started a new job Monday, and access from within work is a little harder than it's been before, so my posting pattern is likely to change a bit. Should easily be able to post once per day though. Well, unless I get 404's all evening like last night ;)

Human

Congratulations on the job :)

Safier, you haven't been posting much lately. I appreciate you've had technology problems but could you confirm you are still around?

Human

I may have to go slightly incommunicado for a few days. My PGCE is coming to an end and I have to finish up a couple of essays, write a reflective diary, do one more observation and attend an induction at the local nick where I'm going to be teaching offenders the errors of their grammatical ways. It should not make too much difference, but just to warn you in case I vanish.

Sorry about the posting, or lack thereof. It seems time is getting away from me (case in point, I didn't see your post from Tuesday until today, and I thought I updated all my games yesterday). The computer problem is resolved now, I've just been playing catch up since then. Plus I've had a couple other things eating up my time, including a trip for work.

On that note, next week (specifically the 12th to the 16th) I won't be able to post at all. I'll be out of town for work and experience from last year taught me I won't have any free time during this trip. I apologize for my absence.

I'll be out in the wilds from this evening until sunday afternoon, so probably no posting....

Human

Who needs new or upgraded kit? We have money so we might as well sort ourselves out before Aubs opens the doors of doom on us.

male Mul Fighter 4 EXP 3873

There's 7 of us, so 2720 by 7 is 388.5 "gold" each...

are we good?

I might want to see what I can buy.

{those are "ceramic pieces" really, right?....}

MAP 42/42 hp

Hmmmm maybe I could get my carrikal enchanted?

Female Human Warlock 4 (Sorcerer King, Wildling) HP 46/46

Definitely fancy upgrading either rod or armour of possibly buying an amulet to make Irivis a little less like wet tissue.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Jareen can find a way to spend that money too. But need to think on it a little and do some housekeeping first.

Just a comment, but you don't get magick shoppes in this setting, what with the attitudes to to arcane magic and so on and the lack of divine magic too (and the sorcerer-kings keep a tight grip on this stuff for obvious reasons). You might be able to find a psionicist for hire, but this is basically a fly-blown border town. IOf you want magic, you might need to make the items yourself. Which means someone needs to learn the ritual to enchant magic items, since no one in the party can do that right now.

MAP 42/42 hp

hmmm. maybe those guys who just disenchanted that orb know how to enchant?

Male Thri-Kreen Barbarian 5 :: HP 53/53 +0 temp; Surges 10/10 [ AC 20, F 20, R 19, W 13 ]

@Aub:
I know there are no magic shops, but what about the "potion-like" healing fruits we had earlier? Is there some shop that we might find those type of items?
Th'Kal gets hit often and I could see buying a few of those.

-If we do find someone to do some enchanting, Big-T definitely could use a bump in his armor/defenses. A low level +1 amulet or bonus to armor would be nice.

For the group:
It's not a bad idea to keep some of the residuum for rituals - the one Jareen used to share our healing surges that allowed us to go on for a few extra fights was nice.

Yes, you can probably pick that stuff up - a relatively trivial Streetwise check would let you find such a place, and maybe make some discreet enquiries in regards to more powerful stuff.

I'm working on getting caught back up now from my work trip.

I don't have my book in front of me, but as far as rituals go in 4e if I recall, isn't it a feat to be able to cast rituals? I honestly don't recall and will look it up when I get home later tonight.

Yes, Ritual Casting is a Feat (which some classes get for free). So, if you don't have it, I don't know if you have and can't use the new ritual, or don't have the ritual at all.

The Exchange

No peeking, please Rarely Accountant 2/Auditor 4/Waster 30

Eh, so much for my grasp of the rules. Let's assume you have it but can't use it until you get the feat (if you want it).

Aubrey, I took the Alchemist Feat (alchemy ritual casting/craft alchemical magic items). How would you like me to determine if I can find recipes, and which ones?

Was this in response to my question? If so, I'm not tracking what crazy elf you are referring to.

I believe Aubrey is referring to the Crazy Elf that deals in Magic Items that Irvis heard of.

Human

Sorry I've been a bit absent. Finishing PGCE and starting work in the same 48 hours has made it a little hectic. Irivis just told Arakan about the crazy elf over on the game thread.

male Mul Fighter 4 EXP 3873

Leveling Furio
Level 4.

+1 to two abilities gain 1 feat no powers.

+1 str and con.

level mods +1

+6 hp

+1 feat DISRUPTING SHOVE.

Leveled.

MAP 42/42 hp

working on level up, so far as best i can tell:

can add +1 to two ability scores (probably STR and INT)

modify things based on 1/2 level (not sure what all of those are)

+5 HP

no class features?

definitely no powers at level 4, i can tell that much.

one new feat

----------------

as far as feats go, i looked through the Dark Sun book and the main Player Handbook, not really seeing good feats. am i missing something?

male Mul Fighter 4 EXP 3873

It seemed to me the feats are pretty sparse in 4e.

I found one that amped up an encounter power somewhat.

MAP 42/42 hp

yeah i was looking for something that helps my ability to heal
