"Silver scum! I saw you cast a spell on my prince!" Lieutenant Meira is about to charge at Rodergo when the prince intervenes.

"What? Wait, Lieutenant!" Prince Kor shakes his head to clear it. "Father Rodergo is right. My mind was influenced. Order your men to throw back these Riedrans!"

Lieutenant Meira looks torn for a moment, but then bellows the order, "Big blue b!ggers - take 'em down!"

OK, Lieutenant Meira's discussion and conversion to the cause take up her actions this round. However, from this point (and until I say otherwise) you can control her and her Redcloaks.

Helkashtai snarls in anger as her enchantment of Prince Kor is swiftly defeated. "Lieutenant Meira, you are making a big mistake!" She points at Ezreal's force wall and her finger emits a green beam. The wall is destroyed instantly.

The giant who is trapped in the webs turns and irritatedly puts out a hand, palm-first. A roll of biting cold washes over the technicians. Two fall, flash-frozen, but one rime-covered stalwart remains.

H2 uses his Cone of Cold on T1, T2 and T3
9d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 4, 4, 4, 5, 6, 2, 5) = 38 cold damage, DC 18 for half
Fort saves
T1 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
T2 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
T3 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
T2 and T3 instantly killed.

His two fellows take off, flying free of the web and landing close to Rodergo and Janosz.

H1 attacks Janosz, H3 attacks Rod
H1 1d20 + 21 - 3 ⇒ (6) + 21 - 3 = 24 to hit, damage 2d6 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 11 + 6 = 24
H3 1d20 + 21 - 3 ⇒ (8) + 21 - 3 = 26 to hit, damage 2d6 + 11 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 11 + 6 = 24

The remaining technician casts quick spell. Two force missile hammer into the Horned Legion commander but quickly dissipate on contact.

Magic Missile, roll to overcome SR 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17, damage 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 = 6
Ah well...

The Horned Legion commander ignores the ineffectual spell and concentrates on Kazadar.
Full attack on Kaz
Attack 1 1d20 + 32 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 32 - 2 - 4 = 31 to hit, damage 2d6 + 20 + 8 + 1d4 ⇒ (3, 3) + 20 + 8 + (1) = 35
Attack 2 1d20 + 27 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 27 - 2 - 4 = 31 to hit, damage 2d6 + 20 + 8 + 1d4 ⇒ (6, 4) + 20 + 8 + (1) = 39
Attack 3 1d20 + 22 - 2 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 22 - 2 - 4 = 25 to hit, damage 2d6 + 20 + 8 + 1d4 ⇒ (6, 1) + 20 + 8 + (4) = 39

Grand Lodge

Oops. I hadn't realized she disintegrated the last wall. Thought it was a dispel and she might not be lucky this time. Well at least that is one disintegrate she doesn't have available for us.

Haste, Divine Power, Air Walk, Death Ward Dwarf Fighter 1 / Cleric 8 / Sovereign Speaker 3; HP 87/116

Redcloaks gotta go before me still, and i don't have time to do a post for them (or really even time to do up my own post) but what do we think about Kaz trying for a sunder? He has three attacks thanks to haste and the last attack is least likely to hit the giant, so maybe i could go for a sunder with it to reduce their coverage on the field and let some of our allies move more freely.

i'm supposed to be studying for a test i am taking tomorrow, but i can probably sneak in a post within the next 24hrs. if Gil wants to post before me that is fine too, I'm just gonna full attack HC.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

I really like the Sunder idea. I also really don't like the idea of provoking AoOs with these guys, as you don't have the Improved Sunder feat...

Haste, Divine Power, Air Walk, Death Ward Dwarf Fighter 1 / Cleric 8 / Sovereign Speaker 3; HP 87/116

War domain ability: Weapon Master lets me temporarily pick up a feat for which i meet the pre-reqs. I have Power Attack already, so I could pick up Improved Sunder temporarily for a +2 and no AoO

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

I'll handle the Redcloaks. Lessee if I can keep the alive through the fight... RC1 5' steps to J8, RC2 5' steps to L8 and RC3 5' steps to M8. They all attack H1.

RC1:
Attack 1: 12+10+1(haste)=AC 23, damage 1d8+2=8
Attack 2: 7+5+1(haste)=AC 13, damage 1d8+2=4
Attack 3 (bonus from Haste): 19!+10+1(haste)=AC 30, confirm roll 14+10+1=AC 25, damage 1d8+2=9x2=18

RC2:
Attack 1: 13+10+1(haste)=AC 24, damage 1d8+2=7
Attack 2: 10+5+1(haste)=AC 16, damage 1d8+2=6
Attack 3 (bonus from Haste): 13+10+1(haste)=AC 24, damage 1d8+2=8

RC3:
Attack 1: 20!+10+1(haste)=AC 31, confirm roll 12+10+1=AC23, damage 1d8+2=7x2=14
Attack 2: 4+5+1(haste)=AC 10, damage 1d8+2=9
Attack 3 (bonus from Haste): 11+10+1(haste)=AC 22, damage 1d8+2=7

Good rolls! Let's see if either of those crits were confirmed...

Kazadar, then Gil.

I forgot about that ability! In that case, I say sunder away.

The Redcloaks slash at the giant with their sword, drawing blood several times.

Kaz.

alright, passed the first and by-far-easiest of two tests, so I will post now.

Kazadar swings his enchanted byeshk warhammer about, the air singing as it passes by with the goal of striking the half-giant commander and his weapon, if fates be so kind.

swift action to gain Improved Sunder for the round

haste atk vs HC: 1d20 + 19 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 19 + 1 = 30
dmg: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13

atk vs HC: 1d20 + 19 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 19 + 1 = 38
dmg: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

sunder vs HC weapon: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (5) + 14 = 19
dmg: 1d8 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

GM:
for your ease, two-handed hafter weapons such as glaives have:

  • Hardness 5 (Add 2 for each +1 of the item's bonus, assuming it is magical)
  • 10 HP/inch of thickness (+10hp per +1 of the item's bonus, assuming it is magical)
  • AC 9

  • The giant dodges Kazadar's first attack but it loses balance slightly. Kazadar's follow-up catches it a blow on the hip before the two warriors clash weapons.

OK, performing a Sunder attempt is a combat manoeuvre, pitting your CMD against the giant's CMB, not an ordinary attack (unlike in previous editions) so your attack bonuses are wrong. Plus I don't know what your CMB (or CMD) is as I can't find it on your character sheet. However, a roll of 5 probably won't do it anyway.

    Gil.

Haste, Divine Power, Air Walk, Death Ward Dwarf Fighter 1 / Cleric 8 / Sovereign Speaker 3; HP 87/116

the sunder value there was correct. I was incorrect in putting the item's AC there since it was put in the srd's "damaging objects" page.

    Aubrey:
Gil casts Invisibility using Metamorphic Spell (time) to quicken it, but it only lasts one round. Then, she moves (hasted) through the crowd to P5, mindful that the giant might be able to see her this time, so she will still attempt to dodge any attacks. She reappears in her new position as a shadow lightning bolt issues forth to and through Hel's nearest protectors, passing down column P. Cloaked casting gives +1 to DC and +2 to spell penetration and she has the feats for same, doubling the effect.

With a word and a gesture, Gil disappears. Those north of her position might notice someone moving swiftly past, but she doesn't dally. When next she appears, she is against the wall as a lightning bolt flies forth from her outstretched hand and across the chamber.

    Acrobatics to dodge potential AoO if they can see the swashbuckler: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (18) + 17 = 35

    Spell Penetration vs HC: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 12 + 2 + 2 = 23

    Spell Penetration vs H2: 1d20 + 12 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 12 + 2 + 2 = 21

Will DC 23 to disbelieve shadow lightning bolt, success reduces damage to 20% of total; Reflex DC 23 to halve damage after Will save is resolved

    Lightning Damage: 10d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 3, 6, 6, 6, 1, 6, 5, 6) = 50

    Nice damage there. Let's see...
    HC Will save 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19
    HC Reflex save 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
    H1 Will save 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (18) + 14 = 32
    H1 Reflex save 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
I've checked the angles and you can get Helkashtai too if you want. As I assume you want to, I'll assume you do.
    Helkashtai Will save 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
    Helkashtai Reflex save 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

    OK, not bad...

The Horned Legion footsoldier avoids the bolt easily. However, both the commander and Helkashtai receive the full blast.

They wouldn't - they aren't outsiders in Eberron, they are giants.

Janosz fires a storm of arrows at the giant, but only one finds its mark.

Prince Kor draws his sword and bellows, "Lady Helkashtai, call off your monsters!"

Plus a 5' shift towards HC.

Eyes blank, Desdamora turns and attacks Gil.

    Attack on Gil
    Attack 1 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 to hit, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Again Haladon strikes the commander with his lance of light. The giant growls a command to his nearby subordinate.

I just realized I never got a Knowledge check on the ogre mages last time. I rolled one (34) , but it was premature because Ez couldn't see them yet and we never came back to it. Also it was possibly the wrong Knowledge (Planes).

    Knowledge Planes (if they count as outsider): 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (2) + 24 = 26
Knowedge Local (if they should count as Giants): 1d20 ⇒ 17

I realized a bit late that we have split Kn Local by region, and they are prevalent in Sarlona. I don't have Knowledge in that region. So... 10 probably. Meaning we know only what we have observed so far.

Edit: Yeah 10. Aubrey had mentioned above that they aren't outsiders in Eberron.

Lieutenant Meira lands some telling blows, biting a lump out of the giant before spitting it out.

Helkashtai glares at Haladon. A skull-splitting whine fills the air.

Haladan, make a DC 23 Will save with a +4 bonus (or, if you prefer a DC 19 Will save - just let me know which you are doing). If you succeed, you take 3d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 2) = 11. If you fail, you drop to -1 hp and are dying.

One giant moves towards Janosz and aims a flurry of blows him. Another follows after Rodergo and uses the same tactic.

H1 will shift towards Janosz and, like it says above, uses a flurry of blows.

    Attack 3 (bonus from Haste): 11+10+1+2=AC 24, damage 1d8+2=8

    RC3:
    Attack 1: 6+10+1(Haste)=AC 17, damage 1d8+2=7
    Attack 2: 10+5+1=AC 16, damage 1d8+2=4
    Attack 3 (bonus from Haste): 17+10+1=AC 28, damage 1d8+2=10

    Kazadar, then Gil, then me.

The Redcloaks continue to slash and harry the giant.

    Kaz.

    Map updated.

Haste, Divine Power, Air Walk, Death Ward Dwarf Fighter 1 / Cleric 8 / Sovereign Speaker 3; HP 87/116

Kazadar will 5ft step to O11 and defensively cast Righteous Might on himself.

    concentration DC 25: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (10) + 18 = 28

The dwarf, already massive for his race by virtue of the titanic battle plate armor, doubles in size. Kazadar now towers over Helkashtai and is of a height with the half-giant. (now occupying O/P 11/12)

net AC doesn't change (-1 from loss of dex and -1 size, but +2 natural). DR 5/evil (not sure if that'll matter). Reach is important, as Hellkashtai is now on the inside of my reach so she might provoke an AoO. +24 temp HP as well, and weapon goes to 2d6+12 dmg.

Hp 92 of 92; AC 28 (29); Fort +13; Ref +9 (+10); Will +18 Human Male Cleric 7/ Exorcist of the Silver Flame 6; effects: Bless, Airwalk

Note that Rod cast Righteous Might on himself too, so is now large sized with similar stat changes to Kaz. More for the hp boost and DR than to go toe to toe with any of the giants, he'd still come off second best I would think. In fact, I think he's in lot of trouble now that H2 and H3 are surrounding him ...

What do you guys think for next round? Heal? Defensively cast to try to drop a Flame Strike or something on HC and Hel? Or take on H2 in melee?

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

It depends on what Gil and I can pull off. If she can drop another lightning bolt onto the boss baddies and I put a few arrows in one or both of them, it is probably worth it to finish them off with a flame strike. Just heading into melee is probably your worst option, as Rod isn't the strongest up-close combatant around.

79/79 hp, 0 nonlethal; Effects: ; Perception +16, vs traps +20; Guise: Non-descript male gambler

Swashbuckler Gil sidesteps out of melee with the dominated woman and conjures up something electrifying once more. Targeting HC and Hel.

"Looked like that hurt. Have another!"

    Spell Penetration vs HC: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 2 = 15

Will DC 22 to disbelieve shadow lightning bolt, success reduces damage to 20% of total; Reflex DC 22 to halve damage after Will save is resolved

    Lightning Damage: 10d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 6, 1, 1, 2, 4, 3, 1, 5) = 29

Too bad I can't get a circumstantial bonus because the first one hurt...

Edit: Without cloaked casting, the saves are 22 instead of 23, adjusted above.

Haste, Divine Power, Air Walk, Death Ward Dwarf Fighter 1 / Cleric 8 / Sovereign Speaker 3; HP 87/116

i'm up for cues from others, if someone has an idea. I am going after HC because Ez said focus it, I just made myself big to put the pressure on Helkashtai. instead of a dwarf on the opposite side of a giant from her, i'm now quite next to her and giant-sized.

    HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

I feel like if we can drop him we will turn the tide, but damn is he resilient. Also not helping that I'm not contributing anything here until round 3, but it will snowball once I do.
I don't know about cleric options, but we have observed now that Reflex is the lowest save for every one of them as you would expect for a giant. Their fort is almost impossible to beat and Will is really high.

    Janosz.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

5' step to G8; all attacks go on the ogre mage boss. I'm using Rapid Shot, Manyshot, Deadly Aim (-3 penalty to hit included below) and Clustered Shots.
    Attack 1: 16+17+1(haste)=AC 34, damage 2d8+22+2d6 fire+2d6 electricity = 32+9 fire +7 electricity.
    Attack 2: 15+17+1=AC 32, damage 1d8+11+1d6 fire+1d6 electricity = 18+4 fire + 3 electricity.
    Attack 3: 9+12+1=AC 22, damage 1d8+11+1d6 fire+1d6 electricity = 13+3 fire+ 4 electricity.
    Attack 4: 11+7+1=AC 19, damage 1d8+11+1d6 fire+1d6 electricity = 12 +4 fire + 5 electricity.
    Attack 5 (bonus from Haste: 16+17+1=AC 34, damage 1d8+11+1d6 fire+1d6 electricity = 17 + 5 fire + 4 electricity.

Prince Kor is next, Desdamora and then Haladon.

Gil's spell simply fizzles, defeated by the giant's innate resistance.

Janosz pumps more arrows into the towering Horned Legion commandant. One of the arrows finds a chink in the giant's armour. He teters, spits blood from between crimson-stained fangs, and falls. His massive crystalline sword clatters down beside him.

    HC down.

Prince Kor steps up and thrust his sword into the inert giant, just to make sure. He looks up at Helkashtai and snarls, "Call off these devils or face the consequences!"

5' step and coup de grace on HC.

Meanwhile, Desdamora continues to attack Gil.

    Attack 1 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14 to hit, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
    Attack 2 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 to hit, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

    Haladon.

    How about lil ol' Helkashtai?

same here. now i've got a nasty itch that needs to be scratched, it just so happens the itch is on the inside of the back of Helkashtai's skull.
