The group find themselves cooling their heels for a few hours. (Which gives you time to meditate, pray, study your spellbooks, and whatever other stuff you need to do - count this as a long rest.) The kalashtar simply sit quietly, eyes shut and breathing deeply, although they otherwise seem to be alert. Food is brought a couple of times, and the visitors are escorted to the garderobe as requested, but otherwise they remain - politely - confined.

Finally, Lady Desdamora returns. She looks troubled. "Would you please accompany me?" she asks "You are to be transferred to another place. I've been instructed to travel with you. There's transport and an escort outside."

While they wait, Gil inquires with the healers to see if they have any blessings left today. She's still nursing some broken bones from the crushing she took - and that was before the stupid ogre mage died and fell on top of her.

The gnome mentions, "Master Farlowe, as my life flashed before my eyes back there, I clearly saw myself stow some tomes in the dimensional pocket that you might wish to review while we enjoy the Lady's hospitality." He fishes out the spellbooks that were, um, obtained during the visit to Gath's Mausoleum.

Gil has changed form to the scarred elven swashbuckler that started the Mausoleum incursion, just to see if the unexpected guest - or missing gnome - gets a rise out of the guards.

I continue to get Enlarge Spell confused with the effect of Widen Spell. I would be happy to add that to my arsenal if everyone is ok with it. Also, the clerics are natural first choices for divine scrolls, but let me peruse them while we are not under duress and let me know where you keep them if you need a backup divine caster.

Lade Desdamora leads the group, with its escort of Karrnathi soldiers, out of the consulate. This is the first time that some have seen the exterior of this building, which is like a fortress with small windows, heavy doors and even a portcullis. Outside, a small semicircle of skycoaches await. Standing guard over them are a group of grim, scar-faced soldiers dressed in red cloaks led by a shifter woman, but they make no attempt at small talk. They are tense and alert as they usher the group towards the middle pair of vehicles.

The Redcloaks, together with Lady Desdamora and her small retinue, pile into the other skycoaches and they all take off. The adventurers find their drivers unresponsive to questions as they thread their way through the early evening traffic.

They fly in formation, with the adventurers' in the centre and the others on the outside. However, the flight is only a few minutes as Citadel Headquarters draws close. A wide balcony runs along the front of this otherwise plain building, overlooked formidable-looking siege weaponry, and heavily-armed knights patrol it in pairs. However, the skycoaches land without difficulty and their passengers disembark without ceremony and head into the building. Past an impressive portico and lobby, they are marched along corridors until they reach a set of double-doors in shining wood. They open as they approach.

Walking through, they find themselves in a large, circular chamber. Columns of red-veined marble support the domed ceiling. The floor is covered in mosaic tiles. Five raised daises, one blackened and cracked but the others seemingly intact, sit in a circle near the middle of the room. A small group of technicians dressed in black operate controls in an alcove behind a discreet red velvet curtain. One steps out, nods at the shifter officer who walks in behind the group, and then turns to the new arrivals.

"Greetings. This is the Royal Conclave Room. It is your privilege to be here. Understand that you must never speak of what transpires within this room with anyone else. To do so would be considered an act of treason across the whole of the Five Nations. Also understand that you will be speaking with the most powerful people in Khorvaire. While strict etiquette is waived for these meetings, you will mind your manners or the consequences will be extremely severe. Do you understand?"

Doors on the opposite side of the chamber and a small group of men enter. At their head is a richly-dressed man in his fifties, and the others all clearly defer to him.

"Prince Kor, King Boranel's brother and the head of the Citadel," whispers Desdamora to Gil.

The black-clad technician bows to the prince. "All the parties are ready."

"Very well," replies Prince Kor, "Proceed."

The technician bows again and retreats behind the curtain. There is a feeling of faint static in the air, and then the image of a man appears on one of the daises. He is a similar age to Prince Kor, although where the prince is slender this man is heavy and bear-like with a bushy beard. The effect is clearly illusory, as the image is translucent, but nevertheless the man greets the prince as if he were in the room.

"Brother! So what's all this about?"

Another image appears on another platform. This one is a very handsome woman in her forties, her long blonde hair elaborately styled and her dress encrusted with jewels. "Boranel, Kor, delighted as always," she says cordially. Both the king and the prince bow politely, although they both eye her as if she was a dangerous animal of some sort.

"Aurala, you look lovelier each time I see you," says the king gallantly, "Your son sends his regards."

Another dais flickers into life. On it stands a teenage girl, pretty in an unremarkable way, simply dressed in a smock. She curtsies to the gathered royalties. "Majesties," she says in a strong Thranish accent. Boranel and Kor reply with pleasantries, although Queen Aurala looks on coolly without a word.

The fourth dais activates, revealing a stern-looking man, aged about forty and dressed in a military-style dress uniform. He is lean and rangy, with intense blue eyes. "It seems I am the last to arrive," he says. Each of the platforms, except for the broken one, now has an occupant.

"Kaius," growls Boranel, "You are the one who called this meeting. What exactly is this about? Something to do with Riedra?"

"Yes, and perhaps no." says King Kaius of Karrnath. "A group of my agents has been pursuing some leads in respect of Riedran activities. They have, quite contrary to expected protocol, become quite famous in this regard, forming part of an adventuring group based in Sharn. You may have heard of them - Rodergo's Reavers. I understand they are quite the cause célèbre in your nation, Keeper?"

The girls smiles and says, "Tales of their adventures have been quite stimulating."

"Nevermind that, Kaius!" huffs King Boranel, "What's a group of your spies doing running around in Breland?"

"Oh, don't be silly, Boranel," says Queen Aurala languidly, "We've all got spies running around each other's lands. Let's not get sidetracked."

"Quite," says Kaius. "Their latest escapade ended with them retreating to our consulate in Sharn, from where they have reported some most disturbing news. I have taken the liberty of having them brought to this conclave so that they may explain themselves." He gestures over to where the adventurers are standing. The gathered rulers look on expectantly.

A technician hisses, "Step forward between the platforms and address their Royal Highnesses."

OK, this is not intended as being just for the Karrns, everyone can chip in. Also, remember that the kalashtar are here too and can answer questions.

Rodergo bows deeply to the virtually assembled monarchs. “Esteemed Highnesses and Majesties,” he says, “and Most Holy Keeper of the Flame … it is an honour and a privilege … I am Father Rodergo Xativa, devotee of the Silver Flame. It seems perhaps that a certain reputation proceeds me, though I am sure such exalted worthies as yourselves are wise enough to know how the broadsheets do love to exaggerate. I am afraid I am neither as dashing nor as heroic as the stories describe me … though I hope a little wiser.”

“I would like to assure all assembled that I am not a spy, for any nation – nor church for that matter … I’m just a simple adventuring cleric, more inclined towards defeating monsters, exorcising demons and spreading the word of the Silver Flame than getting involved in politics and games of thrones. I, and my worthy companions, are just doing our small part to make these Five Kingdoms better and safer for the ordinary citizens.”

“Well, in the course of our adventures …”

Once everyone has introduced themselves, Rod will begin telling their tale, no doubt sharing the story with Ezreal. I won’t do it in character, as I’m liable to get something wrong. Do we go all the way back to the House Cannith experimental warforged, Darkheart, Faith and the other one, investigating the facility in the Mournlands, finding out about the shards, then what we know about the Quori / Kalashtar spirit in the shards? Obviously we will describe how we were attacked by the Riedran ambassador and her Horned Legion cronies … Rod will also mention his suspicions that the Riedran monolith is somehow impacting the people of Sharn.

Ezreal turns to look at Janosz slowly and whispers, "Not a milkmaid so much as a child fused with the divine essence of their god. I suggest you avoid offending her."

"Your Majesties," Ezreal bows precisely as he steps between the platforms. "Ezreal Farlowe of Karrnath. It has come to our attention that the Quori of Dal Quor are again making steps toward planar invasion or subversion. Their last such attempt was near forty-thousand years ago and while ultimately unsuccessful the ensuing conflict brought an end to the Age of Giants and destroyed their civilization throughout, and in large part the continent of, Xen'drik. The efforts of the giants shifted the entire plane of Dal Quor out of alignment, preventing it from ever becoming coterminous with Eberron again. However, it seems over time the Quori have found other means to gain access to Eberron and more recently Khorvaire. Throughout Sarlona they have built crystalline monoliths ostensibly to amplify their psychic power. Currently there is one under construction across the river here in Sharn. The side-effects here in Sharn strike me as suspiciously similar to what you might expect if the plane of dreams and nightmares were drawing coterminus again, albeit on a much smaller scale. May I ask, are there other such monoliths under construction throughout the nations?"

Hehe. I had to look her up on a wiki to make sure I had the general idea right and learned that she is nicknamed "Loli-Pope". :)
Also- I might be way off with the goal of the monoliths as a long term construction project, but I thought I might throw it out there anyway.

Cross posted, but I think Ezreal is of the opinion that the heads of state are not interested so much in the minute tales of our adventure, but rather why they have been assembled. So he got straight to the point. The detail about the attack by the Riedran under secretary needs to come out for sure, but we can share those posts and the rest of the details between us rather than Ezreal winding on and on until they are bored. I'll leave some explanation for those of us with better social skills :)

I'm actually hoping for a bit of in-character, to be honest. It's not every day you get to interact with the ruling monarchs of the Five Nations. Don't feel that one of you has to do a massive post summarising everything. If you make it more of a conversation, you can correct one another, for example. Start where you want to start, get to a point where you would like to pause and maybe for someone to take over, they will ask questions as you go along to prompt and steer.

Seeing that Ezreal is more inclined to get straight to the point, Rodergo forestalls his long tale about enhanced warforged and House Cannith, and skips to the dragonshards.

“In the course of our adventures we came into the possession of some dragonshards that we have cause to believe are infused with the fragmented essence and memories – mind if you will – of a spirit from Dal Quor, a being called Goshasanan. It seems that the Inspired of Riedra are very determined to retrieve these dragonshards – so much so that we were just attacked by the Riedran Under-Secretary to Sharn and her Horned Legion cronies. Now, my companion Ezreal and our kalashtar friends know more of these matters than I, but I am inclined to believe their theories as to why it would be a very bad thing if the Inspired got hold of these shards …”

“Your Majesties, Keeper, I realise that our tale is rather … overwhelming. I have trouble keeping track of all the threads myself, and I have been living it. We really do have every reason to believe that the inhabitants of Dal Quor, and their Riedran allies pose a very real and imminent threat to Khorvaire, perhaps the world,” says Rodergo earnestly, noting the slightly doubtful looks directed towards them.

Diplomacy: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (4) + 19 = 23

"I hope you have some evidence to back up these assertions, Father Xativa," replies King Boranel. "During the war the Riedrans provided non-military support - in particular, the alleviation of food shortages - across the Five Nations. These do not seem to presage a planar invasion."

"Riedra is a famously closed society," says Prince Kor, seemingly thinking out loud. "We have very little intelligence about what goes on there. However, as far as we are aware it is peaceful, both within and at the borders, with the exception of Adar. In Khorvaire, our interactions have been those of mutual benefit, and trade with Riedra is small but nonetheless significant. The monolith you refer to across the river was described to us as a place of worship - the Riedrans follow something called the Path of Inspiration. I think it is somewhat similar to the Silver Flame."

"I believe the similarities are more apparent than actual, Prince Kor," says Keeper Daran sweetly. "But you sum up the issues very effectively. To date we have no reason to doubt Riedran intentions, but it is also fair to say we know very little of their ultimate goals either. We are aware, of course, that a state of war exists between Riedra and Adar, but both the Riedrans and Adarans are very tight-lipped about what this conflict is about. I am aware of stories of there being some sort of relationship between the quori and both the kalashtar of Adar and the Riedran nobility. But given our experience of the Last War, I would be reluctant to drag our nations into another war without good reason. What do you have to support these assertions of an imminent planar incursion?"

"And what is this... Goshasanan? And why would the Riedrans want it so badly?" demands Queen Aurala.

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

"The natural order of the plane of Dal Quor is one of cyclical metamorphosis. This is the root of the Quori incursion. Their realm is on the verge of another cycle, and this effectively means that the Quori as they exist now will be annihilated and in time will become some new form of life. As you might imagine, they are not keen to experience the apocalypse. Having seen observed the path of the kalashtar, dissidents from the Dreaming Dark who found a path to existence here apart from their home plane, the Quori are looking for a way to follow them. This is where the shard comes in. We have three, each containing the imprisoned soul of a Quori who never managed the transition to kalashtar. Goshasanan, was a strategist and scholar of this planar cycle. It is thought that he might understand how to subvert the cycle. And it was in order to take possession of him that Helkashtai, Riedran Under-Secretary to Sharn and her Horned Legion attacked us and set fire to a tower of Sharn some hours ago."

"Just because she is a young woman it does not make her less deadly," says Queen Aurala pointedly. "Do you still possess these shards, Master Farlowe? And when you say 'attacked', what exactly transpired?"

“Yes, well, Helkashtai seemed most charming when we met her at that party before our trip to the Mournlands,” agrees Rodergo, “and I would have had no particular reason to think that the Riedrans meant us any harm … apart from the monolith. I wonder if The Citadel’s … intelligence gathering within Sharn has picked up on the strange headaches and nightmares that people have been having ever since they started building that thing?” He looks briefly at Prince Kor.

“Helkashtai appears to be a powerful psychic of some sort, but to be honest it was less her that gave us trouble today – or was it yesterday now, I’ve somewhat lost track? – but her allies, the ten foot tall, pole-arm wielding, magic using giant-fiends, members of the Horned Legion. They attacked us without provocation - and there was no mistake that it was a hostile attack - when we were visiting the kalashtar to discuss the shards. I admit, we were outmatched … still, it was quite a fight, I’m sure there must have been witnesses. All of us who had previously met Helkashtai recognised her – or someone who looked exactly like her – as the one leading the ogre-magi.”

HPs: 96 / 96, APs: 11/8 Effects: Karnnathi Wizard (Universalist) 12 / Cataclysm Mage 1

"As to how it happened, we had just returned from Gath's Mausoleum where we acquired the shards and met with our two kalashtar associates here in order to return them when the Inspired struck. Almost immediately the kalshatar compound came under attack from the front. Someone threw alchemical fire through the windows outside of the tower and then sealed all of the windows with a stone wall. We fought four of the giants while the room burned around us and though we killed three, the fourth escaped. Four more moved in after that, and between their continuous blasts of artic cold, tripping everyone with those glaives, and Helkashtai trying to suffocate us we did eventually make an escape.

Correct me if I am wrong, but we literally have no evidence for any of our accusations do we?

The Reavers came about as a group after we rescued a House Cannith member named Karile from gnoll thugs in a fine drinking establishment. She hired us to find a man named Norn and bring him to her. Though we had a falling-out with her, we decided to seek out Norn on our own, eventually tracking him to an underground kobold city in Droaam. We freed him and took him back to Sharn - and at that point, Karile revealed herself to be a Quori host body. Since then, we have encountered the same quori spirit wearing the flesh of another mortal; frankly, I suspect that Helkashtai is yet another of its puppets. I put several arrows right in her face, and she didn't even flinch."

"Now, Norn is an artificer and was involved with a Cannith program that seems to have imbued one of them with the spirit and memoried mentioned by Ezreal. Every time we have made a discovery or unraveled more of this mystery, this particular quori shows up to cause problems - first at the Cannith forgehold here in Sharn, and then at the creation forge in Pontrilas, right east of Eston. We have defeated it twice before, but this time it had too many powerful allies with it."

Not that I can think of, though they can question us in a zone of truth or something I guess. There must have been some witnesses to the fight / fire at the kalashtar place, but we'd be lucky indeed if anyone was able to ID Helkashtai, and I think even the giants were invisible whilst outside much of the time.

It seems credible that if we have heard rumours of people having headaches and nightmares and associated that with the Monolith, then government spies / cops would also have uncovered something on this, but without harder evidence they won't want to risk diplomatic ties with Riedra.

"Your Highnesses, Lady Keeper. I fear I have not 'dressed' appropriately as I didn't realize precisely who we were meeting. Please accept my apologies. I will not ask to waste your time while I slip into something more appropriate."

"There is little I can add to the tales of my allies. We adventure together, each for their own reason - or according to their own orders - but we have found that we are an effective team, no, more of a family, despite our many differences."

"We have fought many enemies in our time together. Powerful undead, wyverns, representatives of Daask, but the Inspired - or perhaps a single Quori moving between hosts - are a tenacious foe, determined and organized. I believe it has been stated that Quori do not die or live for a very long time. Consider an enemy that has many lifetimes to study your actions and reactions to other threats before making itself known to you. Daask tries to overtake you with savagery and sheer numbers, but the Inspired and their masters are cunning and patient. Our guests can tell you more," she gestures to the thus-far silent kalashtar, "but it's pretty clear to me that we have survived our battles with them through good fortune and surprise as much as our skills. They plan for eventualities, including defeat, and are most effective at cleaning up after themselves. Evidence has either been irretrievable, as in the Mournlands, or we barely escaped with our lives, here hours ago."

"Evidence will require cunning and planning in return, with a good dose of surprise. Having lived through these encounters, barely," she unconsciously brushes a hand across recently-broken ribs, "I have all the evidence I need. I'm afraid all I can offer you is my word."

Diplomacy for, as Ez put it, the sale: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (18) + 20 = 38 Folks, should I burn an action point here?

I think technically you are supposed to commit to spending the action point at the time the d20 roll is made (ie, before the results are known). As it is, assuming most of them are currently Indifferent towards us and don't have supernaturally good Charisma modifiers, you have probably made them Helpful.

I assume the result of the first Diplomacy check would be 35 rather than 56.

Unsurprisingly, Intimidate is my good social skill, and that doesn't really work here...
