Rod looks at the lich.

"Gath. Gath, I presume?" he says, rather cheerlessly.

"Who are you? Why are you here? You do not seem to be penitents seeking the Keeper's wisdom." The voice is a low croak, muffled by the helmet.

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

how do we wanna play this?

"I am Rodergo Xativa, a humble servant of the flame. These are my cohorts. We seek an audience with Gath. I presume that you are he?"

There is a pause, then the figure grunts his assent.

"A man.......Dr. Ranticar......gave Gath a wooden box. It has a Shard within it. We need that shard, or this world as we know it is possibly doomed.

What do you know of the Dal Quor?"

"Dal Quor? Why should I care? Those who truly sleep do not dwell in Dal Quor."

m ROD! CLERIC 6 EXORCIST SLVR FLAME 5exp =125,535(cast as a 9th level cleric)

"What do you care about then?"

"You have progressed this far and yet you can still ask this question. You are unworthy." Gath makes an abrupt gesture with one hand.

Rod, Will save DC 29. And everyone, please roll initiative.

will: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (19) + 13 = 32

init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Initiative 13+7=20. It is just Rod who needs to save, right?

Rodergo's body is brutally crushed to a messy pulp by some unseen force before being obliterated entirely except for a few tangles of metal and a red greasy patch on the corridor floor.

Rod:

Spoiler:
Though oddly, despite being obliterated, you just actually take 1d4 CHA damage. All will be revealed. You are gone as far as anyone else in concerned.

Correct, only Rod needs to make a Will save.

"S**~ just got real," Gelb retorts at Rod's crushing death.

Init: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11.

Ez Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6.

"Motherf+$*er! You're dead, bones. Deader. You know."

Aubrey:

Spoiler:
Janosz can't shake the feeling that something's very off. Like how the pukwudgie's footprints disappeared, or how Gath leaves no tracks, or that the lich seems kinda... odd. He still thinks we're inside some kind of illusion. Could he get a save against that effect?

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior 6 / War Mind 5

sorry, i made my previous post right after waking up and thought Gath was trying to kill all of us and we all had to make saves. my mistake

"You care about death. The ultimate destination for all that live. The quori - the creatures of Dal Quor - are in opposition to your patron by their very nature. They pervert and destroy and change their victims until they have no free will. They cannot even conceive of killing themselves to escape their tortured existence. If they have their way, there will be no one left to worship Death. But perhaps that does not matter to you."

Aubrey:** spoiler omitted **

Janosz:

Spoiler:
Yes, you can save.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Aubrey:

Spoiler:
Excellent. Will save 14+8+(5,2=5; action point)=27. Not bad for a fighter type.

Janosz:

Spoiler:
Janosz can't help thinking that this scene is somehow unreal.

We need an initiative for Runzyl too.

Runzyl 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Initiative
Gath 21
Janosz 20
Gelb 11+
Runzyl 11
Gil 11-
Nevharath 7
Ezreal 4

"No, it does not matter to me."

Gil, Will save DC 29.

Janosz.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

"Listen for a second." Janosz turns away from Gath. "This ain't real. Look around you. See all the dust, yet nobody leaves any tracks? Note how Gath, the Keeper's greatest servant and preacher, is a monosyllabic d*+~#+~? See how he's covered in cobwebs though he clearly must move around a lot? Nothing of this is happening. We never woke up after the fist set of visions. We're still dreaming. Shake it off!"

People can try Will saves (Nev can take the one he got above if he wishes, Gil's Will save has already been called for).

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior 6 / War Mind 5

"You make sense, Marcher.I did expect more from one such as Gath. " Nevharath then focuses while looking around with his supernatural vision. ill take the earlier one

Gelb save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21.

Ez save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26.

Runzyl save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15.

Well, at least I didn't waste a good roll... It was nice knowin' y'all.

Gil is mashed and pulverised into a smudge in the same way as Rodergo.

Gil:

Spoiler:
Although, like Rod, you actually take 1d4 ⇒ 3 CHA damage. Please wait, all will be revealed shortly.

Gelb.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

Saves, should they matter:

Nevharath 32
Janosz 28
Ezreal 26
Runzyl 15
Gelb 11

Rod and Gil are already wiped out.

"Seems to be doing a fine job of wiping us out for an illusion," Gelb mocks as he draws a wand and fire bolts of magic at it.

Move: draw wand of magic missile.
Standard: fire at Gath.
Damage: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (1, 2, 2, 4, 4) + 5 = 18.

Runzyl utters an elvish warcry as he closes with Gath and slashes at it to disrupt its spellcasting.

Move: close with Gath.
Standard: attack Gath.
Attack: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (2) + 19 = 21. Damage: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10.

Nevharath

Gelb's magic missiles thud into Gath, but he seems unperturbed, and Runzyl's attacks simply skid off his armour.

Nevharath's turn.

Nev:

Spoiler:
Squinting at Gath, the outline seems a little blurry. Almost overlaying the image of the heavily armoured warrior-priest, he sees a shadowy figure clad in a ragged black robe and hood, skeletal hands clutching scythe.

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior 6 / War Mind 5

GM:

Is there a roll i could make to see if i would know what that means? like spellcraft for a spell or maybe a knowledge if it is something natural to a creature?

Nev:

Spoiler:
Well, you know you are looking at an illusion and what you are perceiving is the true form of "Gath".

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior 6 / War Mind 5

Nevharath manifests Force Screen (1 PP) and expends his focus to manifest Call Weaponry, pulling forth a magical heavy flail from ambient ectoplasm.

"Gath is within the illusion!" Nevharath warns.

Nev:

Spoiler:
No he isn't. Gath is the illusion, you are seeing what's wearing the illusory form of Gath. Anyway, why would Gath create an illusion of himself and stand in it?

Ezreal.

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior 6 / War Mind 5

gm:
I thought it was odd too, but your wording seemed specific. I figured it was to ward off magic missiles or get concealment. I thought we had all seen the regular beefy undead knight, I didnt know the others had seen something different.

"No, Gath is the illusion, the warrior is real!" Nevharath says, uncertainty tinging his voice. "I'm seeing both, what are you seeing?"

Ezreal squints. "I just see the lich. But I think you may be right, Janosz, this feels unreal." He casts a spell of dispelling.

CL check 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18

"Nothing!"

Gath turns his gaze to the wizard. Ezreal gives an agonised howl and disappears in a puff of red mist.

Janosz.

Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

"F@&# you. I'm done playing your stupid games. Nothing of this is happening." Janosz stows his bow and spits at the armoured figure. "Do your worst."

One by one the adventurers are crushed to oblivion, Gath seemingly impervious to all attacks, until only Nevharath is left.

Ezreal, Janosz, Gelb and Runzyl:

Spoiler:
You each take 1d4 CHA damage.

Nev:

Spoiler:
The figure of Gath shimmers and fades, and the creature wearing his form is revealed. It wears a ragged black robe, the hood covering its face. A scythe, the blade mottled with rusty stains, is clutched in skeletal bony hands. It raises it head, and Nevharath catches a glimpse of a yellowing skull underneath the hood.

Its voice is a dry rasp. "Sleeper, you do not belong here." It chuckles, the laughter becoming louder and louder until it is deafening.

The adventurers wake, yet again, on the floor of the shrine. The mosaic of the Reaper on the ceiling looms above them mockingly.

Everyone is awake and undamaged save for any CHA damage they might have sustained.

"Well, this isn't heaven,...."

1 person marked this as a favorite.
Male Human Ranger 7/Eldeen ranger (Gatekeeper) 5/Fighter 1

1d4=2 CHA damage. I'm down to CHA 2.

"Not mine, anyway. As that playwright said, "We are but the gods' genitalia, they play with us for their pleasure." I'm tired of being yanked around by this nutball."

The quote is by Melchett in the second season of Blackadder, but seems applicable anywhere.

"Can somebody tell me what happened?!"

1d4 ⇒ 3 CHA damage.

Ez 1d4 ⇒ 3 CHA damage.

Runzyl 1d4 ⇒ 4 CHA damage.

79/79 hp, 0 nonlethal; Effects: ; Perception +16, vs traps +20; Guise: Non-descript male gambler

Gil lays on the floor staring at the ceiling. "Yes, please, someone tell me what just happened."

Male Kalashtar Psychic Warrior 6 / War Mind 5

Nevharath looks around, and tries to determine if they are in yet another layer of dream.

WIS: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Nev:

Spoiler:
You aren't sure.

The door onwards is open once again. The faint sound of music and laughter can be heard.
