I am experiencing a minor life crisis at the moment. One which will require all of my psychic energy to overcome.
I'm not sure if I really have the wherewithal or the motivation to run or participate in pbp for the forseeable few weeks at least. I'm not in a "happy funtime Heathy" mood at the moment.
It's nothing life threatening; it's work stuff.
As such, please let Hudak sneak off with Dravite, let Aleph get a little bit lost in the woods, let Rodergo go in the wilderness to meditate a bit....or npc them; I'm not sure what I'm going to do right now, but I think you guys need to know I'll be taking off for a bit.
I also need to put my pbp on indefinite hiatus.
In a few weeks/month(s) possibly I'll test the waters again and see if it's okay to join back in the revelry, as well as see if we want to continue with the inevitable questing in Asgard......Sigil.....Isle of Dread whathaveyou.Your friend,
Heath
Oh, dear. You'll probably not see this, Heath, but if you do, all the best. Our prayers are with you.

OK, as Heathy cannot join us online for a while, I suggest that we NPC Rod. At the moment he's a bit vital to the team, there being no other really viable healer in the party, and in any case it would strain credulity somewhat to have him "fade away" or otherwise excuse himself from duty in the middle of the Mournland. Hopefully Heathy will be back before the issue of what to do with him after the Mournland segment is over becomes pressing.

I have this sinking suspicion that the conversation amongst Group 1 people is something along these lines:
Rolund: "So we've gotten rid of the irritating priest, the suicidal elf, the minotaur we can't trust, and the know-it-all wizard. We need to ask ourselves: Do we actually want to reunite with them?"
Lightbringer: "You bring up a good point. While it pains me to say this, we are better off without them."
Janosz: "Yeah, I'll cover up all our tracks to make sure they never find us again. Gil, we'll need you to keep us silent and invisible so they can't scout us from the air with Ezreal's magic or his damn bird."
Gil: "Okay! Let's blow this popsicle stand."

Not familiar with the book or the author unfortunately. Honestly I haven’t really found much time to read anything much lately.
The last novel I read just after Christmas was How To Live Safely In A Science Fictional Universe by Charles Yu. Interesting, but a bit weird. Sort of a time travel story, but more sort of a ‘finding oneself and confronting ones personal demons’ story as it turns out. Some interesting ideas though.

Guys, I've been turning over in my mind a sort of steampunky sort of homebrew, which at the moment is little more than a thought experiment but which I do feel calling at me rather insistently. Assuming I can cobble together something than might resemble a campaign, would you guys be interested? I'm thinking of something pretty much on an invitation-only basis, a bit like we kicked off RotRL with you guys from the Eberron campaign.
Reasonably detailed discussion going on here.

Yeah, I would definitely be willing to guinea pig your homebrew steampunk.
One small request, though: Can we start at higher levels? We've been playing in your various games for over 3 years now and have yet to see level 10. :)

I think I'm gonna come back around a little more now; I'm through the rapids as it were on this river called life.
Gimme a week or whatever, to read everything and figure out what's going on, longer if there isn't a sensible reinsertion point.
Woah.....I love Steampunk. I'll definitely at least check it out.

Good to be back!!!
I'm caught up.
No prob's with Rod being used as beast bait; I did it myself on the Impaler Back Weird Warforged encounter; it seems that Rod is kinda a pissy build, so if I can use him to draw attacks from other more effective combatants, thus allowing them AOO's and time to more effectively position themselves, then by all means I'll do so. Seemed like it gave Runzyl the opportunity to set up an ambush there, which makes me feel useful.
Next, I'll catch up on the ROTRL/Hudak game, then Aleph and the Kingmakers,.....and then the mayhem in Asgard shall continue shortly.
Needed a while there, to figure out a lot of stuff.
Briefly, I turned into that "pissed off, burned out forty-year-old guy."
I had to release my anger about many things that I have no control over and no ability to change. This made me able to see the world more clearly and actually start to change that which I HAVE control over. Anger.....I've historically used it as fuel, to get the job done. The only thing is, it is a kinda messy fuel, and gunks up the spark plugs and the carburetor on the engine. The valves get all seized up. The gaskets get worn down. Need to find a better fuel. Maybe love.

I got the impression you were working very hard, which is a noble thing for a guy with a young family but no one can keep it up for ever. Perhaps you pushed a bit hard. I dunno, sorry if I'm out of line as I don't know the circumstances, that's just the impression I got. So long as its moving behind you, that't the main thing.

So we’re dealing with mobs here it looks like. Do mobs tend to be grapplers, do they do swarm damage, or do they make attack rolls? Anyone know? Can I make the ‘mob’ my smite evil target? Or would I need to choose an individual within the mob? Weapon damage should have some effect on a mob right? (unlike some swarms).

All questions I wish I could answer for you. I'm straining to not go look up the rules...

Where are the rules for mobs anyway? ... so I can not look them up?
Aubrey the Malformed |
Not that anyone (VATTNISSE!) has been looking up the rules for nightwings (VATTNISSE!) and just happened to draw silver arrows (VATTNISSE!) randomly. I appreciate (VATTNISSE!) that could just be a guess (VATTNISSE!).
And yes, I'm using (converted as necessary) the DMG2 rules for mobs.
Mothman |
I’m very slowly reading through Bestiary 2 at the moment (well, in between reading bits of Serpent’s Skull and City of Strangers); I’m up to Qlippoth, so just did nightshades a couple of days ago. Unfortunately I didn’t take note of what its DR was, but obviously it is silver (and/or something else … probably Vatters’ other guess of good). I think the nightwing is one of the weaker nightshades (can’t remember whether or not the nightwalker is tougher) but it is still very high CR. This would no doubt be a tough fight without the mobs of disease-ridden zombie things …

I thought you got xp for that, but perhaps I forgot to give it - correct me if I am wrong. It also includes a "Surviving Eston" bonus, but wasn't explicitly including xp for your separate encounters, which I did intend to give.
Ah yes, you did. I just went back to double check and found it. All set then. Still some 10,000 XP from level 10, but we're getting there!

Hi people - I've just read the first 5000 posts or so in your campaign. I'm enjoying it more than some books I could name! Grats on a sustained creative effort; tightly plotted campaign with great characters and exciting action.
It's reminded me what roleplaying is all about.
Have fun and keep on keepin' on.

Thanks Will. We like it too obviously! While everyone in the game has played their part in keeping things interesting and fun, much praise has to go to Aubrey for weaving such a cool story and sticking with the campaign with such gusto almost 4 years on.
You're up to the point where we confronted Darkheart and his hench-forged?
Mothman |
It has occurred to me that this thread would make good fodder for a sizable fantasy epic, with its long-running characters and unified storyline. When we finish it in 12 years or so, we should offload the 200.000 posts to a Paizo-approved writer and tell him/her to go nuts. ;P
Pity we’re playing in Eberron, which is WotC IP.
So Aubrey, when are we retconning over to Golarion? I guess I’ll need to convert LB to something else ... maybe a goblin who reveres fire as a god. Not the Flame, just ... fire.
