Cool, thanks.

Heath or Vatters must have already included the holy staff on Rod's sheet, as he appears to have one!

Grand Lodge

So these things appear to be unclaimed and unrecorded.

Manfred's Holy Symbol
+1 Dagger
Holy Symbol of Dol Dorn (500 gp)
Letter opener in a gold-chased scabbard encrusted with emeralds (1500 gp)
Platinum bracelet with rubies (1,000 gp)
Belt of Dexterity +2
Large Heavy Crossbow +1
Large Studded Leather Armour +1
scroll of Mass Cause Serious Wounds (CL 11)
scroll of Divine Power (CL 7)
Divine scrolls of Unholy Aura, Storm Bolts and Mass Inflict Critical Wounds
Lesser Metamagic Rod of Enlarge Spell
+1 returning dagger
+1 Amulet of Natural Armour
+1 Cloak of Resistance
Huge Masterwork Hammer
+2 leather armor
8 x masterwork plate mail
8 x masterwork heavy steel shield
8 x masterwork longsword

Kazadar should probably take the amulet of natural armor to help in tanking.

I think Gil has more short range spells than the other casters. Rod of enlarge spell?

Scrolls to Rod and/or Kazadar?

Sell everything else? I think everyone either has a resistance bonus or a competing item for the cloak of resistance.

Grand Lodge

Then we need to figure out what these items were:
Students 1 and 2: two cloaks, two scrolls, two spellbooks
Students 3 and 4: two breastplates, two scrolls
Students 5 and 6: two sets of studded leather, two formula books, four potions
Students 7 and 8: two sets of bracers, six potions
Lecturer: cloak, headband, ring, robe, scroll, spellbook

Grand Lodge

And Gil, Rodergo and Ezreal can roll 1d3 for each spell they know with material components that cost money.

Ezreal
Contingency (Not applicable. Statuette has to be of you.)
True Seeing Eye Ointment Costing 250 gp: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Magic Jar Gem worth 100 gp: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Animate Dead Onyx Gem worth 25 gp: 1d3 ⇒ 3
Scrying (Focus, not material component. Probably not applicable.)
Identify 100 gp worth of Pearl Dust: 1d3 ⇒ 3

Sweet. Max rolls.

Also- we are failing as adventurers. What kind of adventurers leave all the loot lying around?

It's seed money - you know, we left the stuff behind to encourage other monsters to come and take it, which we will then return and kill. This way, we encourage and enable a sustainable undead ecology - a circle of death, if you will.

That's it for me today. We can pass this diplomatic mission across the Atlantic. Good luck ya'll.

Damn, you guys are doing some spectacular recaps for a game that's been running over ten years. There was some stuff in there I didn't even remember, and I've read the first rough half of the game twice since it started.

I'm just posting this now because I finally caught up again. :P

I started favoriting plot points and recaps a while back to make it easier to scroll back through them. :)

I sometimes go back and reread the thread, which is quite entertaining. But I'm often struck by how much I've forgotten over the years, including stuff I actually wrote myself.

There have been some epic moments - and moments of hilarity - over the last ... did you say ten years?

I decided to start rereading the RotRL game - I've never reread that like I have the Eberron game, probably because I have the books to refer to. One thing that struck me about the early days is just how damn fast we used to post. But it's reminded me about some good stuff back in the old days, like Hudak drinking the hagfish water and the interplay between Hudak and Dravite.

Yup.

Grand Lodge

Well f!**. We did it now.

The Exchange

No peeking, please Rarely Accountant 2/Auditor 4/Waster 30

Yup. However, it's worth noting the checks and balances. We've just had Brexit and although it's not something I approve of, it is also clear that the government do not have a free hand to do what they want following a court judgement ordering them to consult Parliament over their plans and put them to a vote. The checks and balances in the UK "constitution" (which is more of a nudge-nudge, wink-wink thing than the US constitution which is an actual codified document) are much less than in the US, and they still (so far) seem to be operating effectively. So I think despair (once you get over the shock) is misplaced at this time, since the Donald will have to deal with Congress. Also, America is a country built on law (just check out the number of lawyers) so the whims of a president are unlikely to become policy just because he says so. It's not good, but it's not that bad. Though I suspect the price of freedom will be eternal vigilance for the next four years, at least.

Grand Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

All three branches of government will be controlled by the same party now. To some degree that wrecks our checks and balances. We will be relying on his own party to reign him in. The only power the other party still holds is filibuster in the senate and the rules can be changed to eliminate it if they want.

I'll refrain from going on because I don't want to stir up aggravation where we come to have some fun, but for progressives some reasonable level of despair is in order. I trust they will curtail anything too wild on foreign policy but the party is lock step on turning back a lot of progress domestically.

Meh. Remember when the GWB administration instructed the IRS to stop auditing rich people and focus on poor welfare recipients instead? Or how easy it was to find plenty of lawyers to redefine and justify torture?

Though the Donald might not be able to change or implement legislation willy-nilly, there are plenty of things that will happen very quickly that requires no real input from either house of Congress. With this election result, the ACA is dead, as is the Paris climate accords. The nuclear deal with Iran is done for, not to mention any chance of a national non-partisan redistricting plan. The Voting Rights Act is now a hollow shell. And then we can start wondering what the Donald's admiration for Putin and his comments that he is unwilling to defend "lazy" European states will do for the European security climate.

Trump has indicated several times that he essentially wants to be a national inspirational figure - i.e. the king of America, and would leave most of the policy stuff to the VP. However, I'm not sure that's a good thing, as Mike Pence is creepy as hell. I suspect we'll end up with 8 more years of GWB-type policies, but with more unstable folks at the rudder. But, hey, this really showed Susan Sarandon and those Williamsburg hipsters! Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face.

Yeah, but it ain't Russia or Venezuela. Yet. Don't get me wrong, this is a bit bloody awful, but it isn't the end-times. No polity is flawless and, frankly, the Democrats put up a deeply flawed candidate of their own. Democracy is the worst system by which to run a government except for all the alternatives. Blah blah...

We had the dislocation of Brexit here, and at the time it seemed like a complete bloody disaster too. It might turn out that way. But so far the politicians have not had it all their own way. There have been (successful) legal challenges, and the reality of the situation internationally is also giving them pause. Trump will be similarly confined. And the Trump situation can be reversed (he can be voted out next time), unlike (unfortunately, it would appear) Brexit.

On the flip-side, of course, there are uncomfortable parallels with he 1930s - rising extremism (and not just in the US, of course), aggressive fascistic regimes flexing their muscles, and the US possibly becoming isolationist. Clearly that didn't pan out too well then. But history doesn't have to repeat itself.

Or I could move to Australia, since there's nothing there anybody could probably be bothered to nuke.

Grand Lodge

Hah! Actually I miss some good fish tacos and San Diego is where its at in that department. Phoenix... we'll have some beers if we make a trip to the Grand Canyon at some point? Anything so far west has been nixed due to the length of travel for return trips to Greece. It's already 9-10 hours for a direct flight from the east coast.

Our original plan is Pittsburgh, which only came about because one of Mrs Ith's best friends lives there and I had a proposition to help someone open a business and/or be the co-owner. I have some friends who live there too. I was enthusiastic about the business idea at first, but have cooled a little as I think the guy is a little all over the place and hasn't done his research. I could handle that aspect if we were investing, but I think if we go there I would rather just get settled and start something of my own. But it comes with the uncertainty of immediate career plans.

We visited the city on our vacation, and I liked it. Not what I expected. It was a very green forested river valley. It is just big enough for Mrs Ith who has never lived in a city smaller than several million and still has a lot of open green space to remind me of home- especially in the suburb we decided on. Athens is billions of tons of concrete and very little green. Also- cost to buy a home there is very low and the suburb has excellent schools.

For DC we would live in northern Virginia, but everything I know there so far comes from internet searches. Expensive and bad transit, but they have some of the best schools in the nation, and Mrs Ith would have more career opportunities. I didn't like the idea at first, but it has grown on me. Especially since it would come with health insurance and a pretty reasonable salary if they go for it. For now we will wait and see.

M Humanborn

@ith, hopefully you all get the city you want.

@aub, i obviously dont follow British politics closely enough, but i thought brexit was toast after the guy (cameron?) Said the next guy had to do it and the Parliament said they get a say in the matter.

The Exchange

No peeking, please Rarely Accountant 2/Auditor 4/Waster 30

No, it's not toast - Brexit of some form will happen, since that was what was voted for in the referendum, but what exactly that form will take (there are a few permutations, ranging from "hard" to "soft", whether we stay in the Single Market, just have access, or no access, or selective access, and so on) is unclear (and the referendum didn't ask). Cameron immediately resigned but the new Prime Minister said she didn't need to ask Parliament anything as to how to pull off Brexit since she had a mandate from the referendum (which, however, did not endorse any specific form of Brexit, only the vague notion of it). However, a High Court ruling (which will be challenged by the government in our Supreme Court) said that actually the government did need to consult Parliament about how it was planning on doing Brexit. It's a bit ironic that part of the reason for Brexit was to give power back to Parliament, and that the government then decided to not consult it on the biggest thing actually happening for decades. Anyway, we shall see what the Supreme Court says.

Legally, the referendum has no legal force and is just advisory, although it is thought highly unlikely that the MPs will actually say "No" since the referendum does endorse the overall goal of leaving the EU in some way, shape or form and it would be undemocratic to frustrate that completely. However, which form of Brexit we get could have massive influence on the economic outcome, so there is a lot to play for. In particular, financial services are heavily integrated and reliant upon EU laws within the UK, as it is the entry point of choice for many non-European banks and insurers so they can get full European access (via the Single Market). It's our biggest industry (plus all the ancillary bits like accountancy, consultancy and law) and a bungled Brexit could devastate it, and with it the country (and my job). So there's a lot to play for, and consequently there needs to be (in my view) a lot more democratic accountability and oversight in what goes on than the government were originally planning on providing.

True. There's just something about both the election and the Brexit that hits me in a very personal, apolitical spot. This little piece has been all over Facebook today, but it sums up a lot of my feelings; change a few words and names, and it applies pretty well to the Brexit too.

Ok, what's our strategy for this fight folks? It would be good to get it right this time ...

We should probably try to score brownie points with the assembled nobility by making sure we protect Prince Kor.

I will probably have Rod focus more on buffs and heals rather than offensive spells, given our poor showing with overcoming SR and high saves last time. I do have blade barrier, holy smite and flame strike if anyone thinks them worth using.

I don't think Banishment, Dismissal etc will work on Oni as they are native outsiders. Does anyone know (or will Knowledge, Planes reveal) if it would work on the inspired? Basically to exorcise the quori spirit from her?

Hp 92 of 92; AC 28 (29); Fort +13; Ref +9 (+10); Will +18 Human Male Cleric 7/ Exorcist of the Silver Flame 6; effects: Bless, Airwalk

Also, does anyone have any thoughts on how the Silver Exorcists' 'Turn Evil Outsider' and 'Silver Exorcism' would work against these guys. I assume in these (and other) contexts, 'Evil Outsider' means 'outsider with the evil subtype' and not 'outsider with an evil alignment' ?

The more I think about it, we should be able to banish the quori out of the Inspired, right? Maybe Rod should focus on trying to do this.

Grand Lodge

Rodergo did exorcise Karile/Fougri so many years back. I had to look it up and it seems like we knocked her out first and then he hit her with the exorcism due to movement/mobility issues with the range.

Haladon has his anchoring aura which may prevent Helkashtai's quori from leaving. Wonder what happens if we kill Hel and the quori can't leave. Will it die with its host or will it be expelled and be unable to leave to its home plane of Dal Quor?

Although, chances are Hel will probably make the will save quite easily. Unless I burn a smite evil but even then its a ranged touch attack and must overcome SR. :(

Could we use protection from evil or magic circle against evil to cut off Hel from her quori temporarily?

Grand Lodge

The spirit trap kind of magic circle against evil won't work I think. It is specifically for called creatures.

I'm feeling dumb that I didn't prep resist energy or protection from energy right about now. Possibly one, definitely two cone of colds will kill Prince Kor and the standard Red Cloak soldiers.

-Probably we need to call out and concentrate attacks to hit one target in quick succession repeatedly throughout one round. Spreading them out didn't work for us last time.

-If Rodergo can manage an exorcism that would be so sweet. 60' range, but we need to make sure Haladon's aura isn't overlapping at the same time. If it doesn't work, I could follow up with dismissal. Hmm. Now I'm thinking that Eberron is high magic and we have seen Gath's mausoleum and the Karrnathi embassy had effective measures to deal with teleportation. This place should be at least on par with those if not a higher level of security. It could be that planeshifting, teleportation, and other such things are blocked throughout the citadel.

Didn't something like this happen before? I can't recall whether it was Fougri or another quori, but I'm sure we had one manifest physically (which they're not supposed to be able to do) - did we solve why / how that happened?

Of course, we are assuming that Hel is currently actively possessed - it seems likely, but it doesn't need to be the case, does it? I'm assuming an inspired can still be evil, psionic and actively working for the quori without actually being possessed?

Rod has two 'Protection From Energy' prepared, he can try to throw one on Prince Kor asap, but it has a range of touch. Aubrey, can we freely call out / warn the NPCs of the bad guys likely tactics and abilities, or would you prefer we wait until our turns?

Ith, are you thinking Banishment as Rod's best bet for an exorcism? I'm not that familiar with mid-high level clerics, so want to make sure I am not missing something obvious.

Liberty's Edge

I think concentrating attacks on one of the oni at a time is a good idea, but should we also have some of us trying to go after Hel?
