Just wanted to say happy holidays to you peeps over here in Atapax's game. I had a good time playing with all of you. Sorry I couldn't stay in the game, but I'm sure you will back out killing bandits and doing just fine without me.
And a happy holidays and new year to all of you. I hope everyone enjoyed their christmas break.
As people will likely start posting again shortly, I'd like to take a moment to reiterate the plan as Kyrie proposed it: On this sortie, head northeast and explore/pacify the three unflipped hexes covering the road leading east off the map, then south to explore the two directly below that. With the road scouted out and major threats (if any) removed, a light patrol based out of Oleg's outpost should suffice to keep the road open, and safer roads mean increased trade and profit for Oleg as well as our Charter's sponsors. With that out of the way, we can head west, check out the marshes and look for Svetlana's ring.

Kyrie, I'm happy with your suggestion, but I'm pretty sure you like me cannot see the latest map with our explorations on it, I think we have explored at least one or two of the hexes you are suggesting. I've given up a bit on working out which parts of the map we have gone over so far. The map doesn't show up in my google docs.
I have the set of maps for kingmaker, but not a copier which will make the A1 map shrink to an A4. I have copied them as 4 x A4 images, but have difficulty making them into one image. Manipulating images isn't really my thing...
Having said all that...I'm happy to go along with it...Gorax will be a bit grumpy as he wants to go after the trapper....
Sia has a link on her profile showing the map exactly as we've explored it. I'm also fairly sure that we ICly have a map, however vague, of the surroundings that we update every time we return to Oleg's.

Thx Kyrie, big help...I see what you proposing now...no worries.
Hey. Glad you went to tell me that we're getting started - but I have all my threads in a list, so I know my turn to post. I'm pretty active, and all that jazz. I still appreciate it though!
Er, Sol? She'd already decided to let you have your weapons back, so there's no need to sneak out and fetch them yourself -- and every need /not/ to, given that the whole reason the rest of the party has issues trusting you is because of the way you tried to sneak inside in the first place
I never said he snuck out, Kyrie. I said he tracked them, because he didn't see where she put them. So he obviously has to find them using what little knowledge he has. So I used I his ability to Track, and went from there to speed that up.
Ooh and I make us so close to level 2, I think we're on 1922 XP, but if I can't count I'd be very happy to know that Kyrie is correct in her calculations and move to level 2.
I hate it when my arithmetic's off, so I went back through the entire IC thread forevery mention Ata made of XP gain and came up with 354 + 208 + 40 + 160 + 100 + 20 + 220 + 100 + 550 = 1752.
At which point my head exploded because that number didn't match mine OR Gorax', so I went through the OOC thread as well and found this post mentioning 350 XP for 'mystery stuff' he'd neglected to mention earlier, which brings the total to 2102.
Haha, did I just hear some kind of bell going "ding"? Or maybe that was just me, so, lv 2 eh? Very nice indeed, which begs the question, how do we deal with hp at lv ups?
I guess that is all I need to know really, that and a confirmation we have a chance to lv up, I know some dm's require a week or so of training.
Rogue Talent: Combat trick (two-weapon fighting) BAB goes up by 1, as does the Reflex save bonus Skill raises: Acrobatics, Bluff, Perception, Perform(Dance), Sense Motive, Stealth New skills: Sleight of Hand, Knowledge (local), Disguise, Linguistics (Will pick extra language later) EDIT ... Aaaand the edit window ate half of my profile. Excuse me while I curse loudly and repeatedly.
Siarani Lodovoka(Female Human Wizard (Enchantress) 1 / Oracle (Passion) 1)
Ata, looking for clearance on the use of that custom Oracle mystery we discussed on and off. There's two likely places for at least a semi-official replacement coming up from Paizo, incidentally. First, Ultimate Magic (of course). The second is that a number of people were working on the idea for Wayfinder #3 or #4, so some version of it will probably appear in either. In the meantime, I'll stick to things that probably will have a direct equivalent in any official version.
... Whew, turned out my work comp still had the profile page open on a browser tab. Managed to reconstruct pretty much everything.
EDITOkay, that looks to be all. Picked Draconic for the additional language.
OK, here goes...will update character later today....
HD = 1d5 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

... Sol, do you really think sneaking up behind an on-duty guard and getting their attention by tapping them on the shoulder when people are still suspicious of your motives to begin with is a good idea?
I know you really want to play the uncultured hermit schtick to the hilt, but you had almost a week's worth of travel with the party where /nobody/ spoke anything other than Common to pick up at least the basics by sheer osmisis if nothing else...
Everything is progressing. I never said I snuck up on him, Kyrie - I don't know how you're interpreting that. I said if I caught him unawares, I'd let him know I was there - if not, it was no big deal.
Kyrie Only.:
It's almost as if you're looking for a problem in my actions - if there's some issue you have with me or my character, please inform me so we can continue to game together. I want to have fun here, y'know?
One, tapping someone on the shoulder pretty much assumes that you're a) behind them and b) haven't been noticed by them. Even if you claim you're not intentionally sneaking up on the guard, that is how they'd likely interpret it.
Two, you're not "progressing"; we're a week's time and a character level ahead and you're still having trouble pronouncing singular words. I know in real life picking up a new language isn't easy, but that's one of those realism factors that get handwaved by game mechanics - and even the king of the jungle managed to get to "Me Tarzan, you Jane" on the first day they met.
My "issue" with your character is that Sol isn't just 'hard to understand', he's impossible to communicate with and you're making it pretty clear in your actions that you expect all the effort to bridge that gap to come from our side, not yours... Despite sheetwise perfectly understanding Common. If I were more cynical, I'd suspect that you'd put that there to have the IC excuse of Sol always understanding anything the rest of us say to or about him when it's convenient for you while still holding up the pretense that he doesn't speak the language.
TL;DR: The "I'm a lone hunter, I've gone out of my way to make sure that I have little to nothing in common with the rest of the party, I'm impossible to communicate with, and isn't it a shame the rest of them don't understand the ways of the hunter so they'd know I'm a good guy without me having to prove it" started out as mildly annoying; your insistence on keeping it up without attempting any kind of improvement on your end pushed it way past tiresome.
For the record, I didn't interpret Sol's post as sneaking. He made his way over to Kesten, and then posted tapping him on the shoulder just in case he wasn't aware of him. Nothing in that says sneaking to me. I appreciate you're input, but please leave the NPC reaction to me, Kyrie. :)
However, I do agree that the communication problem should have come much further in this time. Simple vocabulary is not hard to pick up. I learn more form an episode of Dora the Explorer than Sol seems to have in a week of traveling with four other people.
So if I can stand in the middle here... Kyrie, it does seem like you have something to criticize about every post Sol makes. You're the only one who seems to have this problem. Perhaps it's best to just ICly react to them how you feel they should.
But Sol, you really need to wrap up the language barrier RP schtik. It's not maintainable to this extent. Sol can still be something of an outsider, or non-communicative, without being incompetent in simple learning.
Let's PLEASE get this resolved and move on. The constant bickering is taxing.
Alright. Since you don't understand tact, and the spoiler button, I have to react in a way I was really not prepared to take.
I would have loved to have roleplayed the bit out - the entire week was instead rushed, and it wasn't really something I wanted to be rushed, but I had no problem in it for the sake of the game. So I figured he knows bits and pieces, like a child, and work my way from there - it would've been resolved soon, since PbPs generally take longer to play than a session. It might be common, but it's Greek to him (though I explained it poorly at the beginning, which is my fault anyways).
It's all about flavor and having fun, and it was part of a harsh reality of the character, but I no longer feel so energized to play and post as a result - probably is just my fault since I was joining an existing game, and forgot that facet.
Also, I didn't pick up German in a week. I knew a few things about it going in, since it was related to English in some manners - again, my fault in creating the character and making it a one-sided barrier - but I didn't learn an entire language's ins and outs that quick.
I apologize for wasting your time, and causing such a fuss - I walk away wishing you all the best.
I hate to see people leave, but perhaps it's for the best.
That said, I think I'm going to just sub out Sol for another very similar character of my own. It's one I've been wanting to play around with for a while. Gimme a day or so to get it worked out and I'll post it up. It's an elven Savage Skald/Ranger.
As I mentioned earlier, I'm going to throw in a fifth. The character will actually be very similar to Sol, without the conflict, so the transition will be minimal. A wild elf Ranger with a level of rogue to fill in our lack of someone with trapfinding. I have the character all set, just have to input him.
Ha-ha no I understood that, what I was asking was if we were going to look for a fifth PLAYER?
I'm not worried about my own toes being stepped on ha-ha.
Atapax:
Also, I had a question, since I've given up on the Aldori dueling sword style I was thinking my character should try to make his own style, and one thing that might work would be to use a more unusual weapon, two springs to mind, one is the Falcata, logical since Brevoy has mostly Taldor people, plus it is a good weapon, the second and more interesting choice would be the Urumi, would either of those weapons do?
I'm also considering taking the leadership feat in the future, goes well with my intended role as a general and leader.

** spoiler omitted **
No I think we'll keep it at four. We all seem to get along and I'm loath to try to bring another in unless I have to.
Bregor answers:
Both ideas sound great. I would say that the weapon would depend on you more than me. But I'd allow either. I believe both are exotic though, so that might present a problem feat-wise.
Well, I was planning on taking an exotic weapon proficiency next level; I guess I'll think about which weapon I prefer until that time, should give me plenty of time to consider.
As for the Eldrich knight, no, not as a bard, I would lose far too much by going that path, there are no really good prestige classes for Bards, I mean there is the Battle field Herald, but that would cost me all spell progression, and there is Eldrich Knight, but that would cost me all Bardic music.
Woooah.....keep out for the weekend and come back to the world changing...
As they say, "The Ranger is dead, Long live the Ranger" ... OK in reality its King or Queen, but....
Bit of a shame, I was looking forward to see how Gorax would have got on with him when he could speak common.....guess I'll just have to get to know Salinthas now.
With everyone's permission, unless Sia or Gorax have something they really want to do in the morning, I'd like to propose we call scene and fast forward to the evening dinner and planning session.
Haha, I think this helps with how I imagine Bregors mind would work, he is smart enough to come up with a plan, but lacking the insight to see some of the flaws in it, and when those are pointed out he is bright enough to come up with solutions, but lacking common sense to see how they might not be the best.
Good int, poor wisdom, perfect. Great roleplaying guys.
Gorax, not noted for his intelligence or even his even worse wisdom...and is living up to his uncharismatic best.....each group has been subjected to these sorts of tirades from time to time (as players have replaced others that left)...his common basic outlook doesn't really fit so well with the aristocrats either.
Atapax:
Just let me know if you want me to tone things down. I will try not to upset the other players with this stuff.
I suspect that his outlook on the absolute and indisputable evil of any kind of alcohol-containing drink hasn't made him many friends among commoners either, for that matter...

As long as you don't make him intractable. It's an interesting Character trait, but I'm hoping it doesn't define him for the entire campaign. Tolerance is a great trait too. :)
Sorry, Gorax, but you opened this can of worms ICly, and Kyrie isn't going to let him drop the subject and pretend the conversation didn't happen just because he couldn't think of a response. He's insulted her family and threatened her once too often now.
It was fitting in the makeup of the first party, but the make up now makes it more difficult. The original party was tolerant of his strange ways and tolerance was something that might have happened, unfortunately the characters with which Gorax had closer relations left. The introduction of new characters each time, means he has to bring the trait to the fore, to make them aware of it. The new characters have stories and backgrounds which means he isn't likely to get on with them.
Part of me wants to plead for sanity and desisting the arguing, but another part just wants someone to hit someone so we can settle it for good and move on. I like conflict related RP as much as the next person but this is getting ridiculous. There are other RP hooks out there.
Gorax:
I'm not sure where you saw tolerance about this from the group before. Every time he's brought this up, he's been told he's being foolish. True, some of the others were willing to just ignore him, but the more often you bring it up, especially out of the blue as you did this time, the harder it is to just ignore. I'm not sure what reaction you were expecting, especially after he insulted two people's deities.
There are other ways to bring this trait to the notice of others, but more importantly, I don't think you really need to make an effort of bringing it up at all. Just let it come out as it does. Purposely bringing it out makes it seem like this is a strong focus of your character, which I don't think it needs to be. He has a lot more going for him already without it.
I'm not telling you how to play the character, any more than I was with Sol and the language thing. I'm just telling you that the more unreasonable and intractable you make Gorax with this subject, and then keep bringing it up, the more perturbed other players will get.
I'm also not sure what the last sentence of your last comment means. Perhaps because of a language issue. What do you mean by he 'isn't likely to get on with them'?
I want to state for the record that I am a little torn, Bregor is quite sincere when he calls Gorax "friend", but he has problems with some of the things he say, the main problem to Bregors mind is that Gorax seem to think that alcohol would transform innocent people into bullies, that is the biggest problem for him as he has seen many people be like that without a drop of the stuff.
It's still good roleplaying, but it does make it hard for me to figure out exactly what Bregor should do, at one point he doesn't want to leave a friend like Gorax out to dry, and since it is basicly Gorax against the rest right now he feel a pull to joining in on his side, but on the other hand he really does not understand Gorax point...difficult...
... Please, PLEASE tell me you're planning on having Gorax have some form of epiphany while he tries to get to sleep, because at this point Kyrie no longer considers him safe to travel with.
He's physically threatened her twice now for simply refusing to agree with his patently ludicrous obsession about the supposed evils of drink, and he's now also indirectly insulted her adoptive family with his blanket statement that everyone who profits from alcohol in any way (such as, for instance, merchants like the Medvyed noble family, or innkeepers like Oleg), and he's made it perfectly clear that he's either not interested in or simply not capable of being persuaded that he's being an idiot.
atapax:
Kyrie is simply not going to wait for him to threaten to get violent a third time; and as he's physically too strong for a straight-up fight to be safe for her, she's likely to pick a strategy that plays to her strengths -- such as, say, sneaking into his room and cutting his hamstrings while he's asleep.
Yes, this is an option I'm seriously considering at this point.
Haha, I know I might be stretching it a little bit with that story, but I think it makes sense, a desert does not have a lot of water, and if the land is cursed by the gods then nothing is likely to grow there, plus you are not going to import water, so yeah, it seems like they might be a nation of beer drinkers.
