Kheldor |
When Erky mentions the underbelly, Kheldor brightens visibly. A neat trick seeing as how he's cloaked in shadows "I believe the seedy underbelly might be a good way to go. Though that lady guard could be useful as well. Perhaps our friendly fire orc and I can hit the underworld and Ms Xane, Erk and Sir Res can talk to the guard??"

Kheldor and Gurukk
You looking like vey unsavory types, soon you find out that Brindinford supports a small thieves’ guild, which operates under the front of a legitimate merchant company in Eastgate....though at the moment the name of the company is not something you know...
I will assume you head towards Eastgate
Erky, Xane and Respen
You manage to track down (remember) that the guard barracks are at the corner of the wall that surrounds the Baron’s keep. It is a low stone building that juts out from the watch tower at the southeast corner of the Keep. I will assume you head towards the guard barracks
Kheldor |
"As do I my fiery friend, as do I. Let us go talk to some in an effort to learn something useful"
He concentrates for a few moments, and his appearance shifts to that of a rather well off merchant with a slightly dangerous air about him. Using my Veil Pool power to adopt the disguise of a human merchant lord 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (14) + 22 = 36 Disguise and the DC to disbelieve the illusion is 20
Xane |
Xane gives Gurukk and Kheldor's arms friendly/reassuring squeezes before they leave the Pub.
"Remember, remind any one that threatens you they'll be finding me even more threatening..." She tells them before wandering off with Sir Respen and Erky.

The seedy under-belly
From one of the alleyways a youth approaches Gurukk. "Glad I found you, right this way."
This warehouse attached office and upstairs living quarters seems all the other busy businesses of Eastgate’s mercantile world. Perhaps your information was incorrect and the Gold Tabard Merchant Company is just a business like any other.
The lad leads you to a small hidden room and introduces you….”Thos, I was able to locate the heros.”
Thos is a well known Halfling rogue who used to live in the area, though many believe he is dead.
"Good job, welcome this situation is bad for business and I would like your help."

The guard barracks
You manage to track down the guard barracks at the corner of the wall that surrounds the Baron’s keep. It is a low stone building that juts out from the watch tower at the southeast corner of the Keep.
A couple of human guards and two barghests watch the entrance.
Watch is all they do as you pass into the building and find Lieutenant Shella, in her office at the barracks the strong, stocky woman with a square face, a hooked nose, and her big bastard sword lain across her desk, unsheathed with a whetstone, a leather strap and a cloth nearby.
Directly in front of her is a piece of paper and she appears to be scribbling furiously.
”Can’t you see I am busy here?’
Diplomacy check and role-playing…
For the office of the town guard

Sorry for the confusion, you are correct the boy only recognized Gurukk. The lad assumed that bringing even one person from the group constituted contact with the "heroes". Also assumed that he would bring anyone who was with one of the heroes along as well....So yes at this point no one knows who this rich merchant with Gurukk might be...

At the Captain's words Xane blinks. Raises a hand and opens her mouth as if to say something. Then stops and looks to Erky and Respen.
Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
For a moment Xane looks completely nonplussed...then she notices the door to the room is open. She steps over to it, glances out into the room/corridor beyond before gently but firmly shutting said portal and turning, leaning her weight back against it. Se smiles to Erky and Respen. (^_^)

"It seems that right now you and your friends are just as much criminals as the rest of us. Can we count on you and your friends help?"
The rogues watch the merchant but don't really address him...

The guard barracks
"Sir Respen I appreciate you and your friends in all the help you have given, I believe that really it is best you not interfere.”
”I recommend you stay indoors and obey the proclamation to the best of your ability.”

The Guard barracks
"Honestly I am busy completing my reports, yes the dogs and other creatures are ugly."
Lt Shella is indeed scribbling furiously on some documents that seem to need an official signature and seat.
She dips her quill into her inkwell and continues writing.
"Is there anything I can do for you?"

"I appreciate your willingness. We were going to do something today."
”Look we were gonna look into this ourselves, we are discussing doing one of these things quietly tonight; scouting the Temple, scouting the Baron’s Keep, Investigating Eastgate merchant recruitment, or seekin aid from without.”

Erky, Xane and Respen

"I am doing my best to keep you all safe. We of the town guard are not even sure what is going on. We are making arrangements for the worst."
She shows you some oils of magic weapon..."Most of the guards would just die turning on these things, and the few of us that might survive won't be able to without more of this." points at the oils.
"Please keep yourselves safe till the time comes."

Kheldor
Several documents are arranged on the desk mostly they cover the possibilities that Thos was talking about having some member of the theives guild actually doing.
One report states that the Speaker is involved in recruiting merchants. Other documents are about the baron's keep and the best routes to scout the temple..
It appears as if the guild is going to do something, they are just not certain what....
KenderKin |
Soon enough you compare notes:
Town guard
The guards are prepping in the event they have to defend themselves against the creatures, but they are far from ready to do so, they would prefer you guys stay under the radar until the right time to help them.
The Rogues guild
Offered to help in several ways: scouting the Temple, scouting the Baron’s Keep, Investigating Eastgate merchant rumors of recruitment, or seeking aid from beyond the city walls.
Xane |
Xane frowns, absently rubbing a hand through her hair,
"Why can't we just...I don't know... Just go and see the Baron. Confront him with the bad things that are happening. Wait for who ever is actually making this bad stuff happen pop up to protect their interests and 'BAM!" get them over and done with?"
KenderKin |
You remember hearing a loud crash earlier, but were not sure what was going on. Erky did see it happen though and points you to outside.
After the Baron’s proclamation and the town criers have repeated the message a thunderous crash was heard. The dome of the Temple collapsed and a gout of flame streaked skyward.
At Erky's urging you look that way... sure enough
The fire continues to burn into the night glowing in the overcast sky, visible anywhere in town.
Several reports of hellish creatures coming forth from those same flames and stalking the town are repeated in quiet whispers.
Erky Timbers |
"Well at least tha low level clerics they managed tah capture, are being held by tha town guard."
Erky scratches his head...."Wonder if Lt. Shelia got them fancy potions from tha temple err from tha clerics o tha temple."
"Maybe tha thieves guild would be willin to do tha jail break o tha clerics? Breakin people out o jail is not somethin I know much about an I am plenty recognizable."
"I honestly don't know what tah does."
KenderKin |
You have no trouble finding your way back to the Gold Tabbard Merchant Company. The look outs and scouts of the guild have no problem noticing your approach.
Once you are safely inside Thos the guild leader rushes to meet you.
"So you have decided upon our assistance? What favor might we bestow upon you, before the day gets too late?"
As a note it is late afternoon....but that's ok the guild operates mostly at night anyway...
