Sir Respen Bayleef |
Respen stops playing his mandolin and puts it away. He taps on the pole with his cane and says "Beware, goblins aboot and apparently they don't care for visitors." He then looks towards Xane and says with a smirk,"That sounds tempting, but I believe I still remember a few climbing tricks from my youth hehe."

"Gurukk will give you his rope to tie around the pillar. If you think length will be enough." The orc hands Respen or Xane his rope.
Xane |
Xane shakes her head at Gurukk's suggestion,
"I've no skill with knots. I'd let some one else do the tying, thanks." She continues to lean over the edge and look down into the ravine for any signs of movement.
Perception:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
"So, should we set up camp here? It's kind of out in the open, but then there's less places for something to sneak up on us from..." Xane ponders, then looks over at Berry.
"I offered to carry you before..." Xane mutters and shakes her head at the whimsical kid with a smile.

Climbing down? Establish marching order in the OOC thread, ie who goes first, second, third, etc. Will also need to set night watch schedule in the same fashion in OOC thread. Thank you! ;)
A sandy ledge overlooks a subterranean gulf of darkness to the west. The ledge is wide but rough. Sand, rocky debris, and the bones of small animals cover it.
A roughly hewn stairwell zigs and zags down the side of the ledge, descending into darkness the limits of your vision do not reveal the bottom.
Comments welcome!…on the picture....;) Thank you!
Sir Respen Bayleef |
Respen takes Gurukk's rope and ties it to the pillar. CMB for rope tying:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
As he tightens the knot he looks to the group and says "How does that old adage go, Age before beauty." Showing to the group he’s ready to go first if they want to climb down.

"Gurukk is 12. Does that mean I go first or last?"
Xane |
"I'll stay at the top and go last, maybe with a second rope for people who don't feel confident in their climbing down? Berry, you wanted a ride, didn't you?" She asks.
"Also, if I fall I've only me to land on at the bottom." She adds with a grin.
Gurukk Pyreborn |
Assuming the rope hasn't snapped already and Thedrin plunged to his doom, he merely pauses to look up at Xane's concern smiling before continuing.
Gurukk will follow Thedrin taking 10 as well for an 11
Sir Respen Bayleef |
Respen will go next and join the group with taking 10 and having a result of dun dun dun 11.
The older halfling moves to the rope after he waits for Gurukk to get down, and then gives the group a dashing smile as he makes his way down the rope.

Perception DC 13
At the edge of sight, a fortress top emerges from the darkness. The subterranean citadel, though impressive, seems long forgotten, of the lightless windows, cracked crenellations, and the leaning towers are any indication. All is quiet, though a cold breeze blows up from below, bringing with it the scent of dust and a faint trace of rot.
Xane |
Xane watches the small figure of berry descend. Placing her large self in such a way so as to maybe cushion any fall.
"Here now. You could have waited. I was quite prepared to climb back up and give you a ride down." She says to the smaller Berry, the incident with the rats seeming completely forgotten.

(for my trick moves hehe)
Respen flips his dagger into its scabard, and says with a roguish smile "There's never anything worry about when Sir Bayleef is around, and Xane if you need some tips on your blades follow through I'll be glad to show ya a trick or two. My dear healer, you might want to check on Thedrin he got attack the most." As he says that Respen pulls out his cane, and surveys the area for anymore vermin.
Thedrin the Lotus |
Thedrin looks mournfully at Gurukk "Any loss of life is unfortunate, though if it can continue to serve in death as sustenance then so be it". He still looks a bit shellshocked by the easy brutality of his team-mates.
I think I've figured out a way to play to his vows and still allow the party to play to their characters - we'll see how it plays out over the next couple of encounters

As you examine the area the rats seem to have come out of holes/cracks or cubbies that make it easy for them to hide.
Gurukk considers the dire rat carcasses and decides to gut/ skin/butcher/package or cook/smoke? the meat.
The stairs and several landings loom ahead of you or a climb up using the rope and hand/foot holds....

Gurukk will cook them whenever we stop for a rest. Guess it is time to head down the stairs?
KenderKin |
The narrow stairs empty into a small courtyard, apparently the top of what was once a crenellated battlement. The buried citadel has sunk so far into the earth that the battlement is now level with the surrounding cavern floor. The floor stretches away to the north and south, and it is apparently composed of a layer of treacherous, crumbled masonry, which reaches to an unknown depth.
To the west looms the surviving structure of what must be the Sunless Citadel.
A tower stands on the west side of the courtyard.
The terrain is rough and difficult to move through.
