Alexia - for your character I'm going to roll back the original thread just slightly. You've met the young half-elf Ellenora, and scouted out the Murdoch estate, but for the time being Firyin is yet unmolested from the wrath of the guild.

Drovic:

You remember the pain of claws tearing into your flash before all went black.

Now as you come to, lying on your back, you can feel something smooth and hard beneath you. Stone? Marble? You are unsure. A thick cloth is wound around your head, covering your eyes. But despite the blind fold, a very bright light spills through the cloth and in around the edges. You are sure that without the cloth the brightness would burn out your pupils.

Your entire body tingles with life, not unlike the few times you've been the recipient of a priest channeling healing energy, though five fold stronger.

A voice, male speaks softly as you stir a little. "Now you are an interesting dilemma. I have need of someone with your skills, and your associations. But your nature makes you a hard one to trust..." the man leaves the words hanging. Soft footsteps to your right as he walks around a bit. The light fades and all is pitch black. The warmth of the floor likewise changes, going chill to the touch, and your stomach feels queasy for a moment as though you've just fallen from a height.

Nyx:

With a network of informants and spies in place the past several months had been easy ones - up until a week and a half ago when the street war broke out between Firyin and Mistress Diguri. With your network you were able to see the clues that it was coming - but the fury of it caught you by a bit of surprise.

As an information broker you'd stayed out of the way. The former drow Ilvaria, and her partner Firyin had both paid you for information and silence. You'd even suspected Firyin of double crossing his 'sister', and plotting for his own ends only.

With no contact from Shannath Diguri or her other direct agents though you'd thought the coup a sure thing, and a new mistress or master would arise in the underworld of Coran.

Returning to your home for the day to prepare an evening meal, you turn back to the room and find the Mistress standing on the opposite side of it, leaning against the wall. You've purposely left the doors in your home a little rusty so they squeak when opened, and the windows tight for the same reason, but neither of these gave any indication of entrance - and indeed all are still closed.

You've met the Mistress on a few occasions in the past. Tall for a drow at nearly 6', and silvery eyes rather than the common colors of white or red. She is adorned in dark purple silks with a matching cloak and gloves. She bears no visible weapons, though each hand is adorned with a gem encrusted ring. Black leather boots cover her feet.

She smiles, "Ah Nyx, I've been meaning to get a chance to talk with you. May I have a seat?"

More to come

Nyx:

If Nyx was surprised by the intrusion, then she hides it well. Although also unarmed, Nyx was confident that if things got violent, she could swiftly trigger her blade belt for defensive purposes. Leaning against the wall casually, mimicking the posture of the Mistress, Nyx retains an air of casual indifference.

"Gaseous Form I presume?" She states, determined to wrest back some control of the conversation. "Sit then, if it pleases you", Nyx continues, mentally ticking down each individual option as to why the Mistress would be visiting her at her home, unannounced. Possibilities occurred to her, some worse than others, but she keeps her relaxed posture. "Perhaps if you had called ahead, I might have made enough for two", she remarks, indicating the meal preparation.

Drovic:

The group cautiously crisscrossed the shadowy streets of Coran, scurrying from shadow to shadow like a bunch of frightened cockroaches. They were less than twenty fours hours removed from their second ambush in less than two weeks and they had no intention of being caught with their pants down again. Shrouded in disguises, they headed to the jail that housed the traitor, Maklo. After about an hour of walking, they were finally in sight of the destination...
"Someone just cast a spell to the East." Anthony's whisper pierced the silence. "I am done humoring our curiosity, we need to get out of here, now!" Drovic, the eyes and ears of the group, called on the power of his mask and slowly floated above the buildings to provide reconnaissance. Within seconds, he saw armored men cutting down an alley and running toward his friends. Through a message spell, Drovic directed the group of thieves, "This way." Damn it Vaek. You led them to us again, Drovic thought to himself as he turned to fly away from danger. His thoughts were suddenly interrupted by sharp pain. A multi-armed creature appeared in front of the witch. "Greetings from Lisbeth the Unmaker! Your dooms have been foretold. Surrender and you shall suffer little." Drovic struggled to gain his composure as the hideous creature positioned itself to grapple him into submission. He quickly called on the power of the mask to aid him. A familiar voice hissed at his request though. "It is too late...you have killed us both." The response quickly became a reality as the enemy's multiple clawed appendages penetrated the witches abdominal cavity one after another. Darkness overtook the half orc...

Darkness engulfed the witch and his senses were numbed. Sharp pains coursed throughout the entirety of his scarred body. The hideous mask that had once provided such power now taunted him as he descended further and further into the torturous depths of the unknown. With each passing moment, his pain intensified. Drovic fell for what seemed like hours. Scenes from his life flashed before his eyes. He watched as orcs took his mother. He looked on as his grandfather spit in disgust at his hideous form immediately after birth. He felt the painful memories of slavery and abandonment that he had spent a lifetime suppressing. He watched the life drain from the faces of the men and women he had murdered in cold blood. Then...finally...nothing...

Drovic shivers at the sudden change of temperature. He is not sure if it is from the cold or if it is from the sudden remembrance of the hell he experienced moments after his death. He knew that he never intended to go through that again. He turns his head in the direction of the light foot steps, but is unable to see through the blindfold. His lips part to speak as the nausea hits. His body suddenly convulses, fighting his attempt to speak. A gasp for air is the first sound he is able to make...then weakly he whispers a response. "Free... me and I will do... whatever you ask...

Nyx:

"You show insight." the Mistress replies simply to the question.

She takes a seat in one of the chairs near the table. "Thank you for the offer, but I am accustomed to having to fend for my own meals."

"You know the man Rosuc?"
Rosuc is a part time informant, and also delivers pesh to various dealers. He was recently taken by the mages, then 'released' under a brand of sedition. Typically spends his time at The Silver Spirits, a tavern near the south gate.

"I need to know what magical auras are upon the man - without he, or anyone else, knowing he has been... searched. I have an individual who I want you to work with in this. Her name is Alexia, and she has certain magical aptitudes. You can find her at The Boars Head."

"I'd like your opinion on Alexia as well. There may be a connection between her and Rosuc, but I need to know for sure. Watch her closely as you perform this task."

The Mistress retrieves a ruby from within the folds of her clothing, placing it in the center of the table. "Is this a job you are willing to take on?"

Drovic:

"Freeing you is simple enough. Cultivating trust is a bit more complicated. But I've come this far. In three days I want you to go to The Iron Gullet and talk to Shelen. She will have a task for you to perform. You may want to bring along some friends to assist you."

Arkhan:

Since the start of the street war you haven't heard from anyone within the guild. A forgotten member - perhaps for the best not to be caught up in the murders. While killing isn't an issue, you've done plenty of that, to much public limelight is dangerous.

Returning home in the early morning hours a soft clang of metal and a hiss of steam from a nearby ally gets your immediate attention. "Arkhan." a voice whispers. Amongst the shadows you see a hulking metal form. You know the man, and the strange suit he wears. Anthony, the cripple. You've worked with him a few times in the past. You once saw him take on five men who tried to run a bad deal past the guild, and come out with barely a wound. The raw brutal savagery afforded him by his suit was a sight to behold.

The suit doesn't quite match your own preferences, but it is still an interesting technological wonder of its own.

His voice brings you back to focus, "The Mistress has a recon job for you. She wants you to keep watch on the Tower. Get a feel for what is going on - the comings and goings. Take Brick with you."

Brick:

Two days ago you returned from Issust Hold after spending some time their with Tasem, the only lieutenant of the Mistress still loyal to her and alive, delivering several slaves into the hands of the Usturn.
The Usturn is the organized crime in the Hold, and are on good relations with the Coran guild.

You'd received a message from Tasem a few days earlier about the street war going on in Coran. You'd gone to The Wailing Spirits, one entrance to the guilds hideout, only to find Tasem being carried away unconscious, along with several women, employees of the brothel, Kleonna, the owner, and a drow woman you do not recognize, all bound and being led away. A monstrous four armed creature was carrying Tasem while a elven female in Tower robes followed close behind.

Also nearby was a male dressed in the garb of the city guard, an officer of some kind judging my his equipment. Another male in full plate with several melee weapons and a large quiver on his back with arrows, javelins, and several spear hafts sticking out of it. Next to the man in plate was half-elven archer.

You followed from a safe distance and watched them enter the Tower of the Heavens, and haven't seen nor heard from them since.

Not sure where else to go, you found an inn to stay in for a few days. During the night there is a soft knock at your door waking you.

Nyx:

Nyx frowns slightly. "It sounds like the focus of my task is this Alexia, and NOT Rosuc. You must be aware that I dont have the magical knowledge to read such magical aura's, which means that I'm useless for the apparent purpose of this mission. If you want Alexia to have a bodyguard, then I'm sure there is hired muscle around freely available for a much cheaper price than that ruby on the table would buy. Yet, you came to me, fully aware that I don't have the skillset to handle this job. I'm not a wizard, and I'm not an enforcer, so I'll enquire what is it you actually want from me."

Arcane Sight is not in my formula book, and Investigators need Use Magic Device to even read a scroll of it (even though its on their formula list) which I don't have. From the POV of Nyx, there is nothing she can actually offer The Mistress when Alexia can buy a scroll, add it to her spell book book, cast it herself after she prepares it, and do the entire thing on her own. Its not so much that Nyx isn't open to doing a job for The Mistress, its more that she believes there is a catch, or something else to the job, because she couldn't actually do any part of the job as it stands.

Still nauseated, Drovic reaches up and pulls on the cloth wraps that are blocking his vision. He removes them to the best of his ability and attempts to peer through the darkness Darkvision. He frantically looks around for his mask. "I do what I say I will do unless I am double crossed. Do you have my mask?" Weakened by the sudden movements, he falls back supine on the cold floor. "What of Anthony and the others? Were they able to escape?"

Nyx:

"I'm sorry. Let me explain more clearly. Alexia has the skills to look over Rosuc for magic. And while I think it best someone go with her to look after her, keep her safe, what I'm looking for from you is to watch her for how she reacts to this job. You see, she isn't a member of the organization here in Coran. She works for the Usturn. I believe she can be relied upon for some plans I have, but I need to be certain. Your work as an information broker is well known in certain circles. Find out what you can about her. She is here in Coran ostensibly just to monitor the situation with the street war. Her job to look over Rosuc will tell me some things I need to know about the man. Your report on Alexia will tell me some things I need to know about her."

She taps the ruby, "This is your payment. I will reimburse you for whatever payment you need to make to Alexia, within reason of course, and if you feel it necessary to hire some additional help."

The Usturn represent organized crime in Issust Hold. They have good relations with Mistress Diguri's organization.

The ruby is worth 500gp. You can use up to another 1500gp in operating funds.

Drovic:

Strong hands grip your wrists as soon as you reach for the blindfold, preventing you from removing it. "I'm sorry. There are some things you are not allowed to see here. But yes, I do have your mask. An interesting little artifact it is."

"Help our guest to his feet." the voice commands and the hands pull you up. You feel the familiar texture and shape of the mask placed in your hands.

"You can remove the blind fold in a moment." speaking again to you.

"Bring him." again commanding the unseen hands holding your wrists. You are lead through a door, then down a short set of stairs, and around a short curving passage.

Exiting another door you can feel the cool of the night air. The hands release you as your 'benefactor' begins casting a spell. He touches your shoulder upon completing it and you feel yourself wink out of existence from your current location and re-appearing somewhere else.

"Three nights then. Gather what allies you have if you wish."

Nyx:

Nyx nods her head "I understand precisely where you are coming from". Taking the ruby she gives the Mistress a short nod. "I'll be in touch then" she remarks, before heading out the door.

Nyx immediately does several things before meeting Alexia. Firstly, she gets in touch with her information network about Alexia and Rosuc, aware that it might take some time to get information but wants to make enquiries. With the monetary assistance available, Nyx will next pay an NPC wizard for permission to copy Arcane Sight from that wizard's spellbook into her own Formula book, but if on her search for information, learns that Alexia relies on a spellbook then she doesn't rely on an NPC and instead purchases a scroll for Alexia to read/inscribe. (Nyx has a firm philosophy that if you needed a spell once, then you will need it again). Leftover cash will be kept for small bribes to gather information on both Rosuc and Alexia. Thus armed with her knowledge, she will then enter The Boar's Head. Roughly speaking, its 24 hours spent gathering information on her own before she enters the Boar's Head, and expects that it could even be 1-2 weeks before her contacts/people she bribed get back to her.

Getting up from the bed, Brick moved over to the door. Listening for a quick moment for other noises on the other side, he drew his thick blade out and held it behind his back.

Opening the door the slightest to get a quick look for who it was, Brick would only open further depending on who it was on the other side.

Arkhan:

If Land was surprised by the sudden the appearance of the hulking beast, then his facial expression does very little to betray this fact, in fact, the only greeting he extends is the pointed barrel shoved directly into Anothony’s face. Arkhan pauses for a moment, peering over the custom constructed scope of his musket, as recognition sets in. After peering over his shoulder to ensure that he isn’t being watched, he lets the musket fall to his side and enters the ally.

A soft, nearly purring whirring pieces the air as Arkhan’s cybernetic eyes rotates in their socket, zooming in on the unfamiliar design of the comparatively crude suit. A whizzing sound heralds the sudden change of the cyber eye’s mode, as it begins observing the tech on another light-spectrum. The implanted lenses shifts from a deep blue to a more mellow green, as Land inspects the male’s facial features.
Satisfied with his small examination of the man and his protective suit, Arkhan bares his teeth in a wide smirk towards Anthony, flashing two lines of inexplicably white teeth. He opens his mouth to speak in a hushed, nearly expressionless and dull voice ”Ten-four, I’ll set up a perimeter in a viable ten-twenty. Has lethal force been authorized to further this objective or will I need to secure a ten-twenty in a less bloody manner?”

Drovic:

Drovic senses that he has arrived at a new location. He slowly removes the blindfold and looks around his new surroundings.

Nyx:

"Excellent." says the Mistress. She remains seated in the chair while you depart.

Rosuc holds no one so dear as his own skin. His interests in order are, staying alive, making a profit, then spending his profits on cheap entertainment.

The man knows just about every dealer in the pesh trade in Coran, and has sold to most of them. He has an astounding memory for faces and names, and would likely recognize someone he met in a crowded tavern from 10 years ago.

While the man is smart, he has been a little careless at times, probably part of the reason the mages latched on to him and took him for questioning.

He has played up his reason for being taken by the mages - that of sedition, at least publicly. But it is far more likely he is simply working on his primary interest.

He is generally with a woman named Elsa, who loves him, and after his own fashion loves her in return, though his feelings for others tends to be quite shallow. She is a performer of sorts, able to secretly work magics under the guise of telling jokes, singing songs, or telling stories.

Elsa generally uses a message spell and acts as a go between for Rosuc and pesh dealers to arrange deliveries to them while they seem to simply be having a friendly chat with them at The Silver Spirits.

The owner of The Silver Spirits knows what Rosuc does in his tavern, but turns a blind eye to it on account of occasional 'gifts' from the man.

Alexia is a member of the Usturn as is her adoptive father.

Prior to her joining the Usturn, she was a student of the Tower of the Heavens. She was considered a mediocre student at best, though present day evidence suggests she is much better then her teachers gave her credit for. During her third year she was charged with having killed Master Durain Abu. The evidence was inconclusive, but Alexia left the tower, never to return.

She is not often in Coran, spending most of her time in the Hold. Not much is known about her rank within the Usturn.

Feel free to include Alexia in your next spoiler post under assumption you've headed over to where she is currently staying.

Brick:

Outside the door is man you recognize. Smet, a sorcerer of middling power, and one of Tasem's underlings. The man looks nervous, a common look for him. "She wants you to find Arkhan." Smet seldom refers to the Mistress as anything but She, as though he fears using any other reference might bring her wrath upon him. "Arkhan will have further details."

Next post you make, feel free to include Arkhan in the spoiler with the assumption you two have got together.

Arkhan:

Anthony doesn't even flinch as the gun is leveled at his face. The man has changed since you last had anything to do with him a month or so ago. Grown far harder. "No evidence of any kind is to be left. No suggestion that anyone has been watching. Much as I'd like to punch a hole through a couple of people" he growls, "that'd draw some questions no doubt."

"I'm skipping town for a time. Don't hang at any of the usual places, it's uncertain what the mages know, or who."

Feel free to include Brick in your next spoiler under assumption you two have met up.

Drovic:

It only takes a moment to realize you are at the north end of Tiny Town. A man in plain commoner clothes is swiftly walking away from you to the west.

Brick:

Grunting as a sign of agreement, Brick makes a gesture with the hand that was holding the door. The universal sign for "Anything-else?" flowed easily of the big hands.

If Smet didn't bring other information to him, Brick would close the door and try to collect himself. Arkhan... He had worked with him once or twice. Not easy to forget with that wild look on him. Shouldn't be too hard to track him down.

Moving the chair in front of the door and jamming it shut, Brick would go back to sleep, assured that the door wouldn't just spring open now.

Arkhan:

Finding Arkhan proved harder than brick had thought, but Brick was certain that if Brick was told to find Arkhan, then Arkhna would find Brick.
Asking around at inns after Arkhan, Brick made sure to let it be known that if the man came asking for Brick, he would know where to find him. With the subtle and discrete threats from a big man, Brick made sure that if the information of his whereabouts went to the wrong people, he would find out and he would have a very serious talk with whoever blabbered their lips to everyone.
Of course, you only get so far with threats and muscles... Now it was just a matter of time before Arkhan found him.

Alexia:

Nyx approaches the The Boar's Head in a similar manner that she handles most things in her life, slowly and with great care. Slipping into a standard disguise, before entering the building, Nyx observes the crowd. If Alexia is disguised then Nyx will very likely be unable to spot her, but if she is undisguised and present then Nyx will casually make her way over to her, taking a roundabout route, stopping and chatting with the odd patron on her way, to prevent anyone learning the true purpose of her visit. If Alexia is in her room, Nyx will enquire as to where the room is and meets up with Alexia anyway.

Locating Alexia, Nyx pulls out a chair, and sits casually upon it, not bothering to ask for permission. "Alexia Hebert, parents unknown, member of the Usturn along with an adopted father, former student of the Tower of Heaven's where you were considered an average student by many, although further information would prove this hypothesis false. Studied for three years before leaving the tower after the unfortunate death of Master Durain Abu".

Nyx says all of this in a matter of fact tone, obviously low enough to prevent any eavesdroppers (if any), while maintaining an air of cool command. "Someone wishes for me to enlist your aid in a delicate matter that needs to be handled...I assure you I did not volunteer for this position".

Male Human Musket Master 7

Brick:
Tracking the target was a stress-free and easy task for Mister Land. A mere hour after he had been informed of his new assignment, he was up-to-date with the fact that somebody was moving through the city, asking too many questions about his current location. The cross-hair was so delicate and so finely tuned in its designed and the scope so accurate in its attunement, that hardly feared missing the man at all. Then, with a chance luck, the man turned his head slightly and Land made a drained, exhausted sigh. A few moments more and a bullet would have pieced Brick’s tender, sweet and frail flesh.
His tactically sound and practical location, however, took a moment to scale down from. While a sharpshooter perched on the top of a roof could inflict massive amounts of damage, both precise and collateral, Land had experienced with experience and time that getting to such a location was more bothersome than he was comfortable with.

So, after being stuck in a tacky thorn bush and messing up his coat, Land finally managed to reach the main street and catch up with Brick.
Without missing a beat, Land shifted over to a respectable low, indoor voice. ”Salutations, Mister. We got another high-priority task. We are to gauge a new market from a cycle of absolute security. Our rates will tower over the rest, quite like magic. Unfortunately, the CEO doesn’t want us to leave any evidence in the market, otherwise we will be out of the stock business.”

I didn't bother to decide what tavern Alexia had decided to stay at but this will suffice

Nyx/Boars head:

As I was unsure how best to invest in the skill Alexia's powers of disguise are particularly terrible. Will likely include it as my next skill increase when my Int+ headband can upgrade.

The oddly colored elf sitting at the table wearing a hat does not change her position as he continues to draft a map.* "I suppose there is no point in pretenses then. You seem to have me at a disadvantage here, well on a level of information that is. Might I have a name to refer to you as? I will admit I find dealing with people I don't know distasteful."
**With that she sketches a bit more, adding in small bit of information the the side of the map.
"Secondly while I am perhaps wiling to hear you out know that I do have prior engagement in this city. Pending what you can tell me of your employer and what you might require of me I may very well be disinclined to accept. Clashes of interest are often messy and regrettable wastes of resources."

*there is a small reflective token on the wall. One might be able to see things out of it with the angle Alexia is at.

I wont bother with SM, I'm mad enough as it is without putting points into Wisdom/Wisdom based skills.

Nyx merely looks bored as Alexia explains her position. "You can call me Nyx, and like you, I also have prior engagements in this city. Accept or decline as you wish, I couldn't care less how you struggling to...maintain your affairs."

Taking a casual glance around the room, Nyx slides a magical scroll over the table toward Alexia. "This, is a scroll of Arcane Sight, a spell I'm sure you know all about, for as the name suggests, it allows the caster to see magical aura's".

Placing one elegant finger on top of the scroll, Nyx continues on."I'm not aware how you cast your magic, if you already know the spell, then I'll keep the scroll for personal use, but if you are unfamiliar with the spell, then feel free to copy it into whatever records you wish, on the condition that I myself, can then study said record, and add the spell for my personal collection". Not entirely letting go of the scroll until Alexia answers the initial process, Nyx moves on. "You need the spell to see the magical aura on the man our employer wants us to look at. Look at him, record the aura on his person, and then leave, mission over and done with."

Boar's head:

A shame your archetype precludes the use of the Empiricist archetype. it is astoundingly good for the INT heavy investigator. Ceaseless observation is the money power thought. Int as prime stat for so many skills is delicious.

Alexia looks up and gives the woman a cool gaze "Charmed."
You mannerisms so far speak greatly of your heritage.
"As to the state of affairs what I am saying is that I have enough work without taking additional jobs, regardless of how simple they seem on the outset. Your offer has yet to change my opinion of this, though some proof of your credentials in this city may help with that." and I have no reason to believe your offer of work to be anything but a trap at this point. Though that you are not currently attempting to arrest me tells that you are not likely associated with the tower.
The female responds, sketching a doodle of something reminicient to the theives guild mark on scrap parchment. She glances to the offered scroll. the parchment not seeming to catch her interest.
"It seems a waste to use that for simply learning a spell. You might consider finding someone with such a spell already scribed as it would save your scroll from destruction."

Effectively to Alexia you are asking her to take a job outside of her current one for an unknown client. Being part of a less than legal guild I'm fairly certain that is a big No-No. The leaders/lieutenants of such guilds are the one in charge of brokering deals to ensure no conflicts of interest. As of now you are not offering her anything worth breaking those rules for. Even more so when she is a guest in the city on a different guilds turf

Boar's Head:

Yeah, but on the other hand I'd have to cut other INT based skills to make room for others (like UMD), and I prefer to be able to look like whoever I wish. Both are good archetypes, I just prefered this one to the other, tho I wish they both stacked :/

Nyx considers things for a moment. "If you don't want this opportunity, then thats perfectly fine with me, I was contracted out by a client to see if you were interested, not to beg or plead otherwise. She believes her organisation and your own are on good enough terms to make a request upon you. If you wish to decline, then do so, I get payment either way".

Nyx shrugs, before sliding the scroll back towards her. "I considered it an even balance between buying the scroll or hunting down someone that might grant me access to a spellbook with the same spell. It usually ends up costing something similar. Still, if you don't want access to the spell yourself, thats perfectly fine by me, I'll gift it to someone else, and eventually master the spell myself".

Nyx gets up to go, but pauses, halfway through the movement, and sits down again. "You talk of credentials in this city, like its a badge you wear on your chest. I'm not in the habit, of freely giving our information about myself, and I don't intend to start doing so now. If you want to learn more about me, then earn that right...or alternatively learn from my example. You know my name, or you think you do. You know what I look like. If you want to rectify the information disparity between you and I, then do so if you wish. Impress me. Or don't, I don't care either way".

Nyx knows that her clients information is on good terms with the Usturn, and is therefore confident there is no real rule breaking going on. Nyx isn't required to really "prove" anything to Alexia. She tracked her down, researched her, made her an offer, and that was it. She did her part of the job, so if Alexia wants to turn down the opportunity then Nyx remains indifferent.

GM:

If Alexia declines (as looks likely), then I'll find an NPC mage or something that lets me copy the spell Arcane Sight from their spellbook, so that I can add it to my formula book. I'll obviously switch disguises after meeting Alexia, go invisible, disappear for awhile, change to a new disguise again, and then I'll return to Mistress and explain that Alexia declined, while informing Mistress everything that Nyx learnt about her. Job done.

Alexia/Nyx:

Alexia wrote:

I'm assuming that is a symbol (or at least crude likeness) of the Coran group?

Alexia, I should note that with the retcon from the old thread the decision to take out Firyin is on hold for a few days, so you are free from that particular commitment for the time being.

Which doesn't change what your commitments to Rakinkal are to gather information in the street war.

Nyx:

Aye, if she doesn't want the job I'll work something else up :).

Brick/Arkhan:

Listening in, but nothing for me to post yet, let you two work out what you want to do about going to scout - though your welcome/encouraged to find Drovic as well as I don't have anything else for him immediately.

Boars head:

"She." I have no work contacts in Coran except for the most recent ones. None of her lieutenants are female. Well I suppose that the librarian could be one but that is paranoia best indulged in later. But doubtlessly she would not have an organization where as the Mistress does.
Alexia's mental gears whir slightly as she looks at the humanoid.
"Ah."
With that she waits a beat
"I take by your manner and almost obvious intention to not provide me enough information to make a decision where I can be sure that you are not simply aiming to leading me into a trap to be intentional then. The only client I know of in the city who might be able to say that of me already has me involved in things. As to your own history I have no interest in it only why I should believe you are anything but a trap aimed to snare me or those I represent."
Alexia nods as she gives the female a calculating look
"Let me guess she appeared in the middle of the night and gave you some vauge instructions to go and talk to someone you didn't know using the obvious threat of her knowledge of who you are as a prod? I'm vaugely insulted that she might choose to send an intermediary rather than a simple message."
The mage sighs and rolls her now dry parchment into a tube.
"So I would take that you have some manner of payment for this exercise prepared by her? Or is she perhaps expecting I will complete this for her as a favor?"

Yes, Nyx knows. Alexia is already part of a deal with the Mistress. Yes it is currently on hold. Alexia does not know, and had no means to understand until this most recent exchange that you we even remotely involved with her. This would be the issue. Fortunately Alexia is intelligent enough to suss out what is going on with what you have given her.
@GM Ascension I'm assuming that they have one. this could easily be incorrect but was hoping it would provide a method of indicating a shared employer so Alexia didn't need to pick at Nyx's reasons for being there. Alexia is a Guild memeber, she doesn't need or want any or every job off the street unless she has good reason to think such is safe. Solo work easily leads to situations where you get set up and jailed. Double dangerous for a guild member. More secrets that way.

Boar's Head:

Nyx smiles at the tiefling. "Honey believe me, if I wanted to snare you, or those you represent, rest assured I would have already done it by now. I mean really, it wouldn't take much, I could have simply dropped off a note to the Tower, giving them your location. I'm sure the Tower would love to catch up, just take talk about old times, shared experiences, that sort of thing".

Brushing a stand of hair back behind her ear, Nyx regains her thread, and continues on. "As far as my client, wrong on all accounts I'm afraid, and nothing quite as melodramatic. It was daytime, and we talked. She didn't make the mistake of insulting my intelligence by threatening me - we both know I could release hmmm shall we say embarrassing information, potentially damaging, possibly fatal, in the event that I find myself in an unfavourable situation, and it just creates a messy business for all involved. As for meeting someone I don't know, there hardly is a person in this city that I don't know, so I don't know where you got that from. She sent me because I assume that since the two of you have so many close experiences, that you might prefer a more..ah...personal touch, rather than just a letter drop in the middle of the night. Lastly, if you want payment for this exercise, then name it, and I'm sure that, within reason, it would be acceptable to her. With all that said however, I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you wanted to do the job just as a favor to her, or even me."

If its not apparent yet, Nyx is a very arrogant or at the very least, extremely self confident person.

Alexia (and Nyx):

Yes, the guild would actually have several symbols, secret handshakes, code words etc. along with some false ones as well. Alexia would know the ones from the lower ranks within the Coran guild at least.

Female Tiefling Arcanist 7

Boar's head:

Alexia mentally ticks off boxes in her head resisting the urge to roll her eyes at the half-elf Well she is surely arrogant and certain that I will never determine her true identity. And she seems to have conveniently forgotten she is in a Mage city when it comes to what she can or cannot do. Well lets get this farce dealt with.
The tiefling smiles at the half-elf in an attempt to be disarming.
"Shall we move on from jabbing at each others intellect to the meat of this? I assume that you know the name and typical haunts of the target along with other information of that variety. I will go ahead and wait until I am contacted by our shared employer again to request my recompense."

The less I need to deal with this ones towering ego the better.

Cool, basically what I expected. Also note to self. Figure out a solution for Alexia's crappy disguise check sooner rather than later.

Boar's Head:

Nyx leans foward, before placing a round object in the table, covered in a dark cloth. "Your payment, as already orchestrated by...her. Should you find it unsatisfactory, you are welcome to personally ask for more after the job is done"

After playing the object on the table, Nyx leans back settling in her chair."The target's name is Rosuc, a pesh dealer who was recently taken in by the mages for questioning. He has feelings for a women called Elsa, a trickster who enjoys entertaining others, while secretly using magic. She has been observed using the Message spell to secretly arrange deliveries between Rosuc and any of his pesh dealers. The owner of the place remains fully aware of the goings on, but turns a blind eye, due to occasional gifts from Rosuc, it seems safe to assume he has been paid off, and he could turn out to be a possible aggressor should things go wrong. Rosuc has a flawless memory for faces and names, which makes deceit against him tricky, but his location is more easily discovered. He can often be found in the tavern known as The Silver Spirits. Further information indicates that you personally, have some sort of connection with Rosuc, which is potentially why you were personally selected, and not someone else.".

With a satisfied smirk on her face, Nyx takes out the scroll again. "Obviously it would be best if no-one actually saw you scanning him, if you don't have a plan for that then we best need to think of one. Is the relevant spell known to you, or do you still need this scroll?"

Nodding at what Arkhan said, Brick could feel his annoyance fly high. Where Arkhan might excel in shooting and sneaking, the man had a habit of talking like only he could know the secrets.
Taking the conversation to a more private place, meaning anywhere but out on the street, Brick went into a simple drinking house, The Clinkin' Cup, and took a spot where he had a good view of the door and his back to the wall.
"I was told you would have more information." The voice of Brick was low enough for Arkhan to hear and making it hard for people to eavesdrop. Not impossible, just hard.
Switching to the guild speak, Brick continued in cyclops, "So what is the job?"

We probably will have need of some magic, considering what we are going to do, so we will probably contact Drovic once we have a solid idea of what we are doing.

GM Ascension:

I hope you don't mind me making a simple Drinking house name just for this time being.

Female Tiefling Arcanist 7

Boar's head:

I'm assuming the Take 10 option on appraise would be alright in this instance? Alexia would have a 20 in such a case.
Also as an Investigator have you ever heard of the Formula Alembic? You might want to get one if you can. Fantastic method for those with the Alchemist spell list to learn spells. More so in a setting like this one where one might be able to break into a shop and boil half dozen potions in the night to learn their contents.

"I do have the spell, and can cast it currently. Though such a scroll could be of use, I would be willing to offer a trade for it. Access to both a scribed copy of that spell and an example of invisibility sight as well. A bargain for you."
Alexia turns up a corner of the cloth to examine the object for a second before placing it into a pocket of her coat.
"I will have to see this man with my own eyes before I can confirm or deny such suspicions. As to the plan there is the concern of this particular spell converting the users eyes into glowing blue flares in the dark. I lack the spell for the first option but were one to mimic the woman's voice they could easily send Rosuc an incorrect meeting place previously set up to allow ease of use for the spell. More than sixty for distance to avoid any other detection spells he might have active. Charms or other enchantments could also produce such an action. The more immediate but less precise method would be for me to send a surrogate set of eyes into the building. I have means to do so but the chances of a misidentification on the auras are higher."

I am already regretting the number of spells Alexia lacks currently. my interests in spells have changed since I created the list she currently has. Well that and I suppose the spell lists have increased. Marionette possession would be fantastic in this instance.

While visibly uneased by being in such a constricted, garish and loud room, Arkhan does eventually dump himself into a chair after a moment of peering perceptibly at everybody in the full room. He seems satisfied with the results of his scrutiny of the chamber and lets his strange, metallic and heavily modified armament slip into his jacket.
Where it seemingly disappears without a trace, not leaving as much as a lump on his attire.

After giving his coat a quick pat and glancing side-long over his shoulder once more, he moves into the guild’s tongue, speaking it in a primitive, only half-way versed manner.
Injecting countless of his own, in learned phrases. ”I have exchanged intel with Union EpU A. Our current assignment comes from the SeC herself. We’re to stabilize a viable recon Ten-Twenty close to the Ten-Twenty-One. From there we are to record the personal of the Ten-Twenty-One. Otherwise keeping eye contact with Arkhan, Brick nodded at his rambles. So they had to keep a look on what happened at the tower. Sitting back in the chair, Brick kept nodding a little bit before returning to the leaned over position of the table.
"Then we will need to make sure we have perfect vision of..." flailing for the word, he settled on Arkhans choice of word. "10-21, we will need the proper set-up." He paused slightly as he ticked of boxes in his head for what they might need.
*Goggles, rations so we don't have to leave, maybe some other gears, but it will be a regular look-out job.*
"Have they set it up or are we to do it? Also, will we need some... Expert help?"
Raising his brow in a inquisitive manner, a surprising gesture on Brick if you didn't know him, it is apparent that the last was a direct question to Arkhan, rather than to himself.

Boar's Head:
Its not a bad idea, but it doesn't solve the original problem which is, unless I am mistaken you cannot have potions with a range of "Personal" which is what frustrates Alchemist/Investigators, without UMD. Its definitely a good item, but I'm more looking for an easy way to add those Personal Spells to my formula book, since its quite a bit harder to pull off.

"Voice Mimicry is easy for someone such as me, I could replicate the entire form of this women if I wished. Obviously, if we were to send him to an alternative meeting place, I would require some method to prevent the real women from making contact at an inopportune time. As far as the trade is concerned, then fine, you have a deal".

Brick:
Arkhan, having learned that this brutish Brick fellow was reliable enough, if just a bit primitive, trusted he would weed out any strange movement in the background. Instead Land continued prattling on in the Guild’s local tongue, throwing in his queer numerical phrases at pre-selected moments: ”Negative, we will have to secure a fitting 10-20 ourselves.”

Land was not one to be ill-prepared for such junctures and seeing as he had long since eschewed the permanent use of any one location as his base of operations, he was used to always being on the move and as thus kept all of his personal belongings on his own person. As thus, he was currently stocked with more than enough rations and equipment to hunker down in any shabby building for the next couple of months, if the need should arise.
He continues in the Guild’s tongue. ”Arcane powers, while being the very root of this issue, might very well be the tool that hacks the tree down. Do you have a specific Malevolent in mind? The indoctrinated hatred for that loathsome kind seethed inside of him, but his orders had been painfully clear and he was to comply with the Guild's orders, even in this time of upheaval.

The formula Alembic can also work on other alchemist's extracts. it would mean any alchemist can trade spells without a physical format required. There is also nothing preventing an enterprising alchemist from having multiple Alembic's in order to learn and trade exponentially faster. The only restriction being the 24 hour time limit attached to the knowledge. Yes personal range spells will be a problem but you can learn those from wizard books.

"Hrmm... I will need to examine the building and where the target will be. It will be easier to decide on a course of action once all variables are known. I can surely occupy this mystic trollop for as much time as we will need." With that the tiefling glances over to the scroll

Gm, is it possible to make knowledge local for a good lookout point or do you want us to make up something ourselves?
"Then we better find somewhere safe to look out all the time." The slight sarcasm was hard to hear, but it was easy to spot with the small wrinkles showing at the eyes.

Trying to recall what he could of people with the ability to cast spells that was worth asking. Smet was probably busy growling for the Mistress, so he was no good, but he would know other sorcerors in the guild.
Smacking his lips to get the attention of Arkhan once again of the small silence he had let get between them.
"I might know another arcanist," Brick held his breath to see if he used the real word, before continuing, "but I won't bother them till we have a place to set up." Letting Arkhan spitball an idea would help Brick think of how to get in contact with the guild people.

Perhaps too many hours of isolation within his countless safe-houses and barricaded rooms was slowly taking a toll on his mind. He was slowly falling behind on his attendance to the countless services to Brigh as well, so the idea of raising a private altar within one of his more permanent domiciles kept becoming more and more enticing. He blinked rapidly for a moment, as he realized he had just been gazing idly at Brick’s lips while pondering.
To avoid losing face, he merely nodded agreeing, giving Brick his best attempt at a friendly smile and added: ”Ten-four, that sounds like a sensible plan, let us do that at once then.”

He patted himself on the head internally. Whew. He had just dodged a social bullet.

Nyx/Alexia:

@Alexia, The ruby is worth 500gp
@Nyx, Elsa has lived in Coran her whole life. She is of average intelligence, and somewhat weak willed. Other than her ability to hide her spells there is not anything remarkable about the woman.

The Silver Spirits lies about 150' north of the south gate. A short distance northwest is the great library and several temples to various gods.

The tavern is a small and dingy place, packed with people, many of them travelers from the Hold. A second floor, reached by stairs out back, holds a number of small bedrooms.

Rosuc and Elsa are easy to pick out in the tavern, sitting in one corner. Their dress is like that of others in the place, but there is a small circle where the crowds keep clear of the two. None want to be associated with the two who had been questioned by the Tower.

Brick/Arkhan/Drovic:

@Brick, adding a random tavern name is perfectly acceptable. That's where several locations in town have come from.
You would be familiar with Drovic and vice versa, though you've never worked together previously.

As for plans on observing the tower, you'll need to decide what you want to do there, but I'll provide a general description of the area here.

The Tower sits on Library Street, about 200' north of the great library. It is fenced in by iron, and a single gate on the south side. Several buildings fill the open space on the south side of the tower grounds. These house students and provide teaching rooms. An orchard is on the north side of the grounds, and despite the snow in winters, the trees are always in bloom. The gates of the tower are always covered by four guards outside the gate, and typically several more inside the small gatehouses to either side.

Outside the grounds, across the street to the south are several warehouses, mostly owned by the tower, storing mundane goods - food stuffs and the like. These are kept locked.

On the east and west sides are numerous homes. The west side containing homes for several wealthy individuals. The east side is middle class homes.

To the north of the tower is a small market area. It doesn't compare to the open air market at the western gate, or the organized Market Street, but a dozen merchants still ply their trade here.

The bartender looks at the feather handed him by Drovic, then quickly scoops it out of sight. "I don't want to see any more of those." he says in a low voice, "Good way to attract attention to yourself." He gestures towards a semi-private booth where Arkhan and Brick look to be having a low conversation.

"I will see what can be done for spectacle once I am assured I can obtain what I need first. If spectacle is what the client wishes who am I to object?"
With that the mage moves out of the bar and onto the street.

He would be holding the charge on an intensified shocking grasp while scouting in case of danger. If he is not then I would like to use him to scout out the bar.

He pauses for a second... "Pardon me. I am Drovic and you are Arkhan? I am obviously skilled in the arcane arts and Brick here is a brute...What special skills do you bring to the table?"

Nyx/Alexia:

Xabu would be with you.
Xabu slips into the main room of the tavern, scuttling across the floor towards Rosuc and Elsa, dodging heavy boots and the light steps of the bar maids.

Despite the obvious avoidance the other patrons hold toward the two, they sit chatting idly, laughing, as though they had not a care in the world.

From closer up, Xabu can see a faint scar on Rosuc's forehead, and a similar one on Elsa. A brand for sedition.

The Clinkin' Cup:

Just listening in.

The Clinkin' Cup:
Arkhan takes a solitary look at the drink, before gently pushing it aside with the back of his hand. His lips curls up into a wide, beaming grin, giving him a somewhat unsettling appearance. The faint whirring continues, seeming more and more like the sound of a buzzing fly that you just cannot sway away. He replies in the guild language: ”I utilize a combustion driven weaponry to eliminate high-priority Code 647Es from a distance. This device, a combustion-based-weapon, or a CBW, causes immense physical trauma to the Code 647E and ensures its permanent demise. Given enough time and continued use of the CBW, that is.”

Taking the shot in a single swallow, Brick listened to the two of his fellow guild members. He had been lucky that Drovic had been looking for him too, but what meeting was he talking about?
"Arkhan takes out... Annoying elements from a distance." leaving it at that, Brick continued in the guild tongue. "How long are this job going to take Arkhan?"
Juggling two jobs back-to-back wasn't what was at stake here, it was a regular thing to do when most of your jobs involved guarding and roughing up people. More high stake jobs, such as this look-out job and then a mysterious one from Drovic... The question was if Brick was able to do that.

The long and slow line of thought in Bricks head, should have given Arkhan more than enough time to respond... "Tell me Drovic, if you were asked to keep a look out on a big location, could you bring anything special to the table?" The question was an odd one, but Brick didn't have good knowledge of spells other than those used on him... And they were a bit too loud for this kind of job.

Drovic looks on wide eyed as Arkhan drones on and on about 647s and CBWs. Brick cuts in and summarizes the strange man's skills. I am glad we are on the same side then." He turns his attention to Brick. Not really. Divination is not my strong suit. I can provide an extra set of eyes and ears. I can also help get our butts out of trouble if we are discovered." He pauses for a second and turns up his shot. "And what location are we to keep our eyes on?"
