Cormick turns to the speaker and in a loud enough voice for others to hear around him,
Loud enough for anyone in 20-30 feet to hear easily.
"'Know what's good for me?' In all of Abbadon, if I knew what was good for me, I would not be in so much trouble all the time. Are you going to educate me on 'what is good for me'?"

He then takes a step back to get a better look at the speaker and see if he recognizes him.

There is almost a palpable wave of silence rolling forth from Cormick. The man next to him is clean shaven, blonde hair, dressed in red silks with gold trim. His face flushes red with anger.

The man is not someone you have seen before. He glances toward Trest, standing with several other men of about the same age, all of whom pointedly ignore the look, before moving towards the front doors to leave.

Dyna, who is currently grouped with another man and woman, all holding wine glasses, gives Cormick a smile and another wink.

Aerin:

It takes a moment to get the lock opened. Once inside the drawer you find your box and a small stack of papers, a dozen or so.

The source of the magic is one near the middle. On the bottom of the paper is a marking from the mage tower, and the source of universalist magic, an arcane mark of Master Veray, first seat of the council of seven.

The same paper is also the source of the transmutation magic, but to what purpose you cannot tell.

The document itself is short, but instructs the governor to double the number of soldiers at the pass to Gumlat to insure nothing comes that way.

The other documents contain information on recently taken criminals in Akleta, reports of some cattle owned by one Chatla Syb found slaughtered away from their grazing range, a new trade agreement with one of the barbarian clans to the north, and so forth.

If you want to read any of the other documents more closely let me know. You have about 2 minutes of invisibility left.

Male Human, Bard 8, (Init +2; Prec +10; AC 18/13/16; HP 67/78; Fort +3, Ref +9*, Will +8*; CMD 17)

Continuing to keep the man off balance with his words, "Why don't you share a drink with me and let us talk about possible options you have now that others are begining to leave this wonderful party. My name is Cormick Egerton, of the Coran Egertons. What might your name be?"

He reaches out a hand to help guide the man towards a pair of seats.

Via message she will ask Cormick to do the following There is only a one interesting document pertaining to the situation, it bears an arcane mark of Master Veray, first seat of the council of seven. The document itself is short, but instructs the governor to double the number of soldiers at the pass to Gumlat to insure nothing comes that way. There is a faint Transmutation magic also on it. That not properly identify it, but in order to know what is really on that paper a dispel magic will need to be done (And we don't have a scroll on us). Also tell here that there a note to give two Horses tomorrow (i think) to an un-named individual who acts in the capacity of Messenger of Master Veray. He required those horses in order to reach the Master as quickly as possible Ask the one who send us what she wants me to do?

The man stops and turns to look at Cormick, a puzzled and confused look on his face. "Err, sure. I'm Josh." He glances over Cormick's shoulder towards Trest, but getting no help from that quarter heads over to a table with Cormick.

I assume Nasha would have been included in the whisper spell
"I agree Aerin, bring that paper with you so it can be examined more closely. Is there anything else of interest in there? If not get out. What about the room we met in yesterday? Do you have time to slip in there and see what is behind the cabinet?"

"Look at my companions," He indicates Cindy and Amon, "They position themselves at ready positions in the room, incase I needed thier assistance. While your friends position themselves close to an easy escape, ready to leave you at the first sign of danger or trouble. Would it not be better to be friends with me than with them?"

"Now we both know we don't want trouble while at our esteemed Govenor's party, now do we. And true friends never try to cause trouble for each other." Cormick pauses a moment, as if to give Josh a chance to respsond before continuing.

"So why don't you tell me about Trest and why you think he put you up to this little gambit of his?", Cormick asks before leaning into Josh to whisper, "Surely that was not an attempt to distract Lady Dyna from my charms was it? He should know I can cause more distractions for him than his feeble little mind could think of quickly enough?"

if there is nothing holding her interest she will put everything back in place in the same order that she found it using her mage's hand. Then she will head over to the other room (using the outside window is possible) and try to get the hidden vault opened. Renewing her detect magic before entering the room and making sure.

"The trade agreement with the barbarian tribe might be of interest." whispers Nasha, "That's not something I was aware of, so some private arrangement the governor has made."

Aerin:

Taking a closer look at that particular document shows an agreement for the Governor to sell various food items in exchange for furs.

Having already worked the mechanism on the upper window, getting the downstairs one open proves an easier task. As you slip inside the window covered by your invisibility you see a slim woman walking on the governor's grounds, your elven vision making it easy to pick her out in the moonlight. She slows as she passes by the window some 25' away, peering into the darkened opening. Then slowly begins moving again, head still tilted sideways to gaze at the window.

You haven't yet done anything inside the room.

Josh looks troubled, but relaxes as Cormick speaks to him.

Quietly, "Trest uses anyone he can manipulate to his advantage. His wealth and influence give him a lot of power in that area. You should watch your back while in town, he won't just stand aside."

You do not recognize the woman. In a moment she continues on, disappearing around the west corner of the mansion.

You wait several minutes, but see no sign of any other people, nor hear any noises beyond those of the party a couple of doors over.

Josh gives Cormick a nod, "It is good to make your acquaintance."

With the attendees having forgotten the incident from a few minutes before Josh heads over to mingle with some other guests on the opposite side of Trest and his cronies.

One of the governor's guards enters the large room from the south and skirts around the room heading towards the door leading to hallway.

While the presence of the guards around the place is not unusual, this is the first guard to enter the party hall itself. His dress certainly does not fit that of the party goers, and he attracts a few glances from some of the guests.

Aerin pushes on the cabinet, and with some effort is able to move it several inches away from the wall, enough to get a look behind it, and after a moment of searching find a secret compartment. The compartment is locked.

The guardsman reaches the door in the hallway adjoining the ground floor rooms and passes through it. As he does so Lyetia excuses herself from the guests she is conversing with and heads to the double doors on the south, leading outside from the party hall.

The first attempt to open the compartment fails. Before you can make a second attempt the door opens and a guadsman looks into the darkened room, his eyes passing over your invisible form and settling on the open window. Hand on the hilt of his blade he moves forward slowly, looking about the room, though the chairs wouldn't offer much concealment for someone to hide behind.

This is where having a map of the entire house would help. Cindy wants to summon some small snakes or rats to cause a stir, but she would have to find a place where she is not observed and then send the small reptiles out to cause mischief. She can summon 2-5 such creatures and they will persist for 6 rounds. It would be ideal if the tiny creatures could be seen escaping into the garden or into some crack or something before they "pop" at the spells end. She could also vomit a swarm, but that could kill someone. She can just sent the rodents or reptiles running through the dining room. :)

I just need him distracted for 3 min tops. not cause a whole scandal at the party :) we are trying to be subtil. If that isn't possible i'll deal with him and try hard not to kill him

Updated top link with mansion map (ground floor).

The wine splashes on Trest's clothing, staining it a dark red. The man leaps from his chair, his face going red. His hand reflexively reaches for his waist, but he stops and stammers out, "You're a blasted fool."

From across the room Josh hides a snicker.

The governor's bodyguard tenses, and positions himself in front of his charge.

Another guest near the northern door steps over to it and opens it sticking his head into the hallway. A moment later the guard from the hall pushes the door the rest of the way open and stands casually in the door frame.

The doorman at the main entrance likewise opens the door outside and motions to the guards outside. A second guard moves into position at the south door where he can clearly be seen by all in attendance.

Calming himself Trest calls out loudly, "I can see the quality of guests at these affairs has declined. Not sure I should have expected manners from a foreigner though."

The governor's eyes darken in anger, though he does not yet intercede.

Aerin:

The guardsman looks opens the door of the room into the hallway, "What's going on Neil?"

"Some kind of trouble in the ballroom" comes a muffled reply.

With all eyes in the room on Trest and Cormick, Trest gives a smile, "Well, time to retire for the evening." He walks past Cormick towards the south door to leave the party. His lackey's following, one moves closer to Cormick, ready to throw his shoulder against the bard.

Cormick can respond to it, or just let it happen.

At the signal from Aerin, Cindy excuses herself to take a quick walk outside in order to avoid being observed. She walks around the east side of the ballroom where she can see in through a window to the kitchen and release her spell.

Upon its completion there are immediate shrieks and shouts from the kitchen staff as trays of prepared food are knocked or dropped to the floor. Those nearest the door to the ballroom push and shove one another to escape the kitchen and the dire rats follow behind the fleeing staff.
