@GM: Roland also asked for additional info regarding Sorad, multiple half-orcs (she only mentioned one), locations for Smet/Milah, and someone named Emma. Did she purposely not answer these?

"The Mistress... describe her."

I spaced it

At mention of the knowledge that Sorad is a dwarf she blinks, "Yea, that he is. One of the Ozzune clan."

That name is very familiar as the last name of Valdr.

"Drovic, he's the half-orc witch. Used to be a slave in the Hold. Killed his captors then joined the organization as an assassin. But... you killed him?" she asks.

She hesitates to describe the mistress, but takes a deep breath and continues, "Tall, about 6'. Carries herself like a queen. Silver eyes and very beautiful. She was wearing purple silks when I saw her - went barefoot. She had a silver necklace, and a ring inset with garnets. Her hair is black. It was cut short."

"Her voice was soft, with no accent. She gave me a potion, said to use it if there was ever trouble and it would hide me from sight." Kleonna's eyes go wide. "She knew. She knew. That was two weeks before Ilvaria tried to kill her."

Roland would re-ask the questions regarding locations for Smet/Milah, and who "Emma" is that Tasem mentioned. Also, are our PC's aware that the Thieves' Guild has the resources to provide True Resurrection? If so, he would also directly ask her if either Drovic or Sicvivicus had been resurrected

Do we know who Ilvaria is?

@Serelina: Yes we do. Ilvaria was a female drow who led the revolt against The Mistress in the crime gangs war. She was killed, leaving Firyin de facto in charge of the opposing side. Despite trying to take out The Mistress ambush-style, it was unsuccessful. WE *think* this event happened just as this PbP kicked off, as Maklo (aka "Zov") is the other drow we have in custody. He was captured after being chased by Anthony's Gang and nearly killed in the fight. Per info we just got, Maklo apparently hurt Anthony before and the two are sworn enemies

"This Sicsivicus, the Son of the Mask you spoke of. It sounds like the Tower should get ready for his attempt at revenge against you. What else can you tell us about him to help us keep that from happening?"

"I... I don't know. I don't think he'd be foolish enough to attack the tower itself."

Serelina:

Again that sense of concern, not for herself, but for Sic. She doesn't believe he'd make a direct attack - but more so hopes he doesn't do something so brash.

"Milah is usually near the tavern, just keeping an eye on things. I don't know where Smet stays. He comes around to visit, then leaves again."

"Emma? She's one of the girls."

Hmmm, would you know about the true resurrection... let me think on that one.

should be a spellcraft check to know of the spell?

Roland glanced around at the others as Kleonna provided her answers, waiting for a moment to see if anyone else had follow-up concerns. Afterward he smiled and said, I do have it on good authority that Drovic is dead, recalling with mild amusement personally ripping the half-orc witch apart. but this Sicsivicus....you two were an item, yes? Were you aware that he also died? I notice you speak of him in the present tense, unlike Drovic who is no longer a going concern. Is there some reason we should believe your boyfriend is back in the land of the living?

After pausing a moment to answer, the aasimar went on. I also wonder where Anthony and rest will go now that the brothel is under new management. What do you know about other bases and hideouts for them? We'll see how cooperative Tasem is about Smet. But Emma...just one of the girls? Why then would Tasem tell someone, you perhaps?, to check with Emma about Cheyle's location just before he decided to take an unscheduled nap?

@GM: My reference for that last bit of questioning comes p42 in the IC Thread, where Tasem was talking back through the open secret door just before combat began. Also, was this Emma one of the girls we brought back for questioning?

@Party: I can't think of much else to ask Kleonna, though we got quite a bit. I'm thinking Tasem next, then maybe the working girls, though we may reach the point of diminishing returns here at some point.

Ian seems relieved that Kleonna spilled, just standing back and watching with his arms crossed.

She gives Roland a dark look, "I'm old enough to be his mother. And if you killed him, you didn't do a very good job of it."

Roland:

You suspect that if he was dead, and just admitted that to her, she'd be clawing your eyes out - or at least attempting it - right now.

"They'll probably head to the docks, there are plenty of taverns and out of the way places there. And probably a few hidden places as well - but I don't know the locations", she adds, knowing the question will be put to her.

"Emma was smart enough not to come back inside, unlike Kel who got himself murdered by your friend there." she looks at Ian.

"Seemed more like a suicide than a murder..."

Serelina doesn't follow up on the coldly snarky remark, allowing the rest to guide the interrogation.

Kleonna's face is perplexed by the question, "Zov? I don't know any drow, or anyone for that matter, that goes by Zov."

She then turns to Leo, her voice with an edge of sarcasm, "So you intend to keep me locked away in the tower till your masters perform some experiment on me? Doesn't sound safe to me." she mutters.

I'm out of questions.

After the interrogation, Leo brings up the possibility of trying to catch this Sicsivicus, and if it sounds like it is worth doing, to his allies in private.

Assuming no one has additional questions for Kleonna...

Roland smiled weakly as the conversation died down, not even bothering to tell Kleonna that "Zov" was the name Maklo made up for himself. She would know that name, but telling her help nothing, at least at this point.

With one last glance to his companions he looked back to the prisoner. Well, it appears that we are done here for today. I'm aware of no experiments slated to involve you in the near future. We shall perhaps be back in the near future but I suggest for now that you make yourself comfortable, he seemed to recognize the irony of his words, given the meager cell, and we will let you know if your services are further required.

Back outside the cells and away from prisoner earshot, Roland listened to Leo's idea absently, but then spoke on another matter entirely. Do we really experiment on prisoners here? I'd hope that is some sort of ugly rumor put out there to scare the children, but she seemed rather convinced. The aasimar lets the conversation remain for any interest, then switches back to Leo's idea. Well, we should certainly speak to this Tasem fellow. He may be our best chance for specifics. I must say I'm a bit disappointed with the volume of actionable intelligence at our disposal.

Pausing for a moment, Roland hesitated briefly, with ever-so-slight a glance at Rilumin and Ian, before saying and maybe we should consider some of our other myriad targets. This Radgar the Butcher comes to mind. The Thieves may be buying guardsmen but Radgar kills them. I don't know if this Sicvivicus is alive or not; last time I saw him he rather resembled a pin cushion, but I do believe we have struck quite a blow against the Thieves yet again. Given that they still have a civil war to fight, I'm not sure they have the resources or perhaps even the desire to fight us after two such losses in a row. Not saying they drop off the radar, just perhaps bumped down a priority notch or two.

"That Catwoman is most likely the Milah she was talking about. Her rooftop knife throwing matches, at any rate. We should use her blood to find her and remove her as a player. I don't like being spied at from the rooftops."

Leo considers Roland's speculation about experiments. "I wonder..."

Finally when Radgar is brought up, Leo becomes interested in the conversation once more. "Yes, I agree. As much as it's a bit of fun to assert power over the criminal element of the city, and as certain it is that they are a harmful element we'll have to look into, I think it is very much important that we spend more time looking into this mass murderer. While we chase the shadows of the thieves guild, blood is spilling. Do we have any leads? I remember hearing of collected items from his dead wife. Any point is my giving these a once over?"

Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27

Insight 27:

There is something to Leo's interest in catching Radgar beyond just stopping a murderer. Some kind of personal shame.

I would wager a rather large sum of money that Milah is the catwoman you met. She may be rather hard to find, but removing her and Smet seems possible. Still, I for one would not mind a pivot to address the Radgar issue rather than endlessly chasing this Anthony around.

Sense Motive Check vs. Leo's Bluff] 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35

Roland's eyes narrowed ever so slightly as Leo enthusiastically endorsed pursuing Radgar as a priority. He said nothing at the time though, and let the conversation for now continue on to the next interrogation.

Leo:
As the group moved to the next cell, Roland hung back a moment outside the earshot of the rest of the group and glanced over at Leo. You seem...especially interested in Radgar. Did I perhaps notice a tinge of regret? Guilt? If there is more motivating you down this path I'd be delighted to know.

Tasem wakes up in the morning (or this evening) if healing magic is applied.
Tasem did have some equipment of value on him. Breastplate +1, ring of protection +1, cloak of resistance +1, potion of Cure moderate wounds
Going for questioning Tasem for now just to finish up that end, before we progress to either further advance on members of the thieve's guild, or looking to track down Radgar. If you'd rather skip that questing for now, just say so. I'll see about posting twice per day for this though to make the questioning move along faster.

The muscular man simply stares straight ahead, avoiding looking at anyone purposely when he is brought out of his cell for questioning.

Looking nothing like the four-armed monstrosity that had battered the man earlier, Roland strolled into the room with the rest of the group. Greetings! Tasem is it? Kleonna was rather helpful with names and, well, quite a lot of information really, but we are hoping you value a quality life enough to also be cooperative.

He paused a moment before continuing. You do, of course, know that the Thieves' Guild will never trust you again. You could truthfully swear up and down that you told us nothing, but the suspicion will always be there. So...let's start with some basic things. First, who do you report to in the Guild? How do you contact them when you need to? Second, why did you pick Diguri over Firyin in the messy little war going on? Third, who all reported to you, and where would we locate them?

Once this finishes up, I'd actually like to push the Radgar angle.

Serelina sits quietly, allowing Roland to lead the interrogation. It is annoying how competent he is at times... so much potential wasted by a brash lack of focus.

"And what do I get in exchange for betraying my trusts?" his voice is measured. He purposely ignores your questions regarding who he reports to or who reported to him for the moment.

He turns to look at the group instead of staring straight ahead, "The choice was easy. The Mistress wasn't looking to have me killed, or bring a hundred drow into the city." he scans the faces watching him, "Or were you unaware of that detail?"

A sharp change in attitude from Kleonna's interrogation.

Roland:

When stopped, Leo gives Roland a strange look. Not the eyes of a young man who is still getting accustomed to combat and the dealings of an elite law enforcer. They are instead eyes (magically disguised to be a normal blue instead of the uncanny red and gold Roland knows they truly are) of cold maturity, of someone who has made deadly decisions. Leo looks at Roland with this unusual gaze for a long moment, appraisingly.

When he speaks, it is clear that Leo decided on keeping his secrets close to his chest, at least for now. He reaches up and rubs his holy symbol pendant, the black and white mask of Nethys. "The All-Seeing Eye isn't concerned with goodness or evil, both are the same to him. Protection, destruction... One is as worthy as the other to Him. When I was tested..." He pauses and smiles a bit sadly, his cold expression gone. "I am here to protect. I believe that countering the harm done by men like Radgar is what Nethys has chosen for me to do."

With that, Leo puts his shades back on and hurries to catch up with the others for interrogation.

Leo watches the interrogation without moving or speaking. Even when Ian punches the man, he doesn't flinch. His expression is partially hidden by his hood and glasses, making him a figure of mystery in the room.

After Ian turns away from Tasem, apparently done, Leo walks up to him and stares at him for a moment before leaning forward and whispering into his ear so low that only he can hear it.

GM:

"I'm looking forward to questioning your corpse after the wizards have collected your soul." (bluff/intimidate check, +9)

Leo straightens out, face neutral, and watches the man for a response. If none comes, he turns to follow Ian out the door.

Rilumin, possessing few skills for intimidation, waits outside the already-crowded room.

When the door closes behind those who exit, he asks, "Did we learn anything?"

Leo:
Roland simply listens with the hint of a knowing smile as Leo spoke. I suspect there is more to all of us than meets the eye. I shall not pry; particularly as it seems all our goals are aligned. Feeling the conversation done, Roland moved on with Leo into the room with Tasem.

I wonder if one of these days I'll get to be the bad cop, Roland thought idly with a weak smile as Ian menaced Tasem. Not for the first time, Roland also noticed the light touch the ex-guardsman had with women versus men. Tasem's reticence to talk had hardly been a surprise, and although Ian's move was not entirely unpredictable it certainly set the roles in place. He hoped his friendlier-than-Ian disposition was helped by his inability to stifle a small chuckle at Tasem being forcibly shown Serelina. That might be the best torture technique yet, stick him in a room with Little Miss Charming and wait for him to crack!

Roland was getting ready to speak when Leo whispered something in the man's ear. Roland's eyebrows lifted a bit and he too waited to see a response, but only for the briefest of moments. Well, as you can see Tasem, the downside of not working with us can be...grim. The aasimar could not help but glance slightly at Serelina again just then but this time kept a smooth demeanor. But let's talk about the upsides, yes? What you would you like for your cooperation? I shouldn't pretend to know what you might be after in an arrangement, so perhaps you could help me out by making an offer.

He stiffens as Leo whispers in his ear. "Necromancy is forbidden. Or is that restriction only enforced on the common folk?" he says dryly.
Strictly speaking only raising undead is forbidden, but he doesn't seem to know that, or understand exactly what Leo 'plans' in that regard.

"Besides a castle overlooking the sea?" he laughs crudely. Then more soberly, "I walk out of Coran with no strings attached."

Female Elf Wizard 7/Diabolist 1 HP: 49/49; AC: 18|ff14|t12; F+3|R+2|W+6|; Init +0; Perc +8; Bluff +15; Sense Motive +11.

In a somewhat bored voice, Serelina chimes in casually.

"Raising the dead is forbidden, but not trapping a soul and forcing it into eternal service... Nor binding it to answer truthful questions... Nor destroying it so that it may never achieve paradise or be reborn. Do not believe for a moment that Death will stop us from what we seek. It will just require a bit more effort and the results will be a bit more permanent."

Roland said nothing as Serelina clarified the rules of Necromancy in the city, letting the hovered threat of not cooperating resonate, before he continued his line of query.

Walk out of Coran with no strings attached...but where would you go? Of course the Thieves would wonder where you went, and it would be rather sad for you if they found you. Is that really what you would want? If so, what kind of information would we be buying? You'll need to convince me, and soon really. I have a terribly busy day ahead.

His face darkens and his jaw tightens at Serelina's words, "The rumors are true then." Ian's brute force approach, while painful, is something he clearly understands and can cope with. There is some genuine fear at Serelina's suggestions though.

At Roland's question he adds, "You asked who I report to, and how to contact them. You also asked about Milah and Smet. As for me, I'd head down to the Hold, or maybe over to the islands, then beyond."

Serelina and Roland:

There is something 'off' about what he is saying. Not that he is telling lies, but something he knows that makes him comfortable with a deal.

Roland's eyes narrowed as the man spoke, pausing briefly before responding. He let a disappointed countenance take over his expression before speaking. That's...it, eh? Some information about two low-level types and some other mid-level manager you report to? The aasimar glanced around the room at his companions with an apologetic expression. Well, it seems I was wasting our time here. I had hoped we were speaking with someone of more import within the Guild, but it seems I was wrong. Looking over at Serelina he added, it seems the Necromancers could have another one, if they wanted. I'll check back with them afterwards to see what they find from his corpse. Feigned resignation tinged Roland's voice. With that he moved out of the cell with the rest of the party, moving just slowly enough that Tasem could stop him if the prisoner had anything else to say.

This tactic might prompt Tasem to reveal what other information he knows, but if not let's just let him stew for now.

Tasem grinds his teeth, but remains silent.

On to clues for Radgar then.

Serelina what approach and order would you like to take in examining Radgar/his wife's things?

Leo would also very much like to assist Serelina in examining the items. Consider him to be attempting to Assist her rolls (via complimentary skill checks for a +2, as well as the Guidance spell for another +1). He'll follow her lead.

That totally makes sense for Leo to assist, given his god and his Spellcraft check. Recommend starting with the books. One of the journals dealt with conjuration magic; if Roland can help as a summoner then he would, though he has no ranks in spellcraft or Know: arcane

@GM: The spellbook reportedly had Book Ward cast on it, which seems to just protect it from damage. However, the spell lasts 1/day per level, or less if discharged early. Has someone at Mithril Rose been re-casting the spell, or is it Permanent-cied?

Roland left the cells with the rest of the party and after they were out of ear-shot of any prisoners just shrugged and answered Rilumin's question. Rather little new information really. Kleonna talked, Tasem didn't for the most part. But he did mention one thing: Firyin is trying to bring some quantity of drow into the city. That is worth letting our fearless leaders know.

As the group gathered upstairs, Roland again turned to them and spoke. Let me propose a shift in our focus. While I am quite aware that some of you, he did not look directly at Ian or Serelina, but the implication was clear, have a particular bone to pick with the Thieves' Guild, there are perhaps bigger proverbial fish to fry. Anthony and the Mistress have been dealt a sharp check: two of their important members are dead, they have been harried all over the city and now have lost one of their prominent bases as well as important foot soldiers. They will need to re-trench. Furthermore, I find myself wondering if this Firyin isn't as bad or worse than the Mistress and her people. They will fight each other, let us turn our attention to those no one else will fight.

A short pause, and the aasimar went on. We have Radgar and the Pesh trade, as points of concern left fallow. Not to mention that one of the Circle was killed brazenly. Radgar seems to be the biggest thorn. Let us relook our clues on the man and see what we have. I know that Halfling looked over the books before, but he had no magical training. Good show, but little chance of results. Shall we take a look?

@GM: Regarding the Pesh trade bit, looking back through the info Rosuc gave us previously, the Murdoch family was listed as one of two major Pesh suppliers in the city. This information led to one of the Masters (Liam maybe?) requesting former party members Aurelion and Tunny be called back from another mission to assist us given their ties to the Murdochs. I don't *think* that we ever did get a chance to speak to Aurelion and Tunny about this. Is it still slated to happen?

No can do Detect Evil until I get a chance to memorize new spells. But I can do detect magic as well for providing an assist bonus on your spell craft checks. Probably couldn't do that unless I too could sense their auras.

This work comes easily to Leo, and Serelina might be surprised to find Leo's cataloging abilities to be well trained. Hmm, who would have thought that being a librarian would assist me in hunting down killers. If I ever choose to retire to behind a desk, maybe I could log evidence for a living.

The book ward was permanancied.
Aurelion/Tunny can reappear pretty much any time now, just a matter of fitting it in with everything else you've got going on.

The book with notes on conjuration magic also has nothing to catch your eye in its mundane features. Taking several hours to study the notes themselves shows research into a more limited form of teleportation that would return the caster, and only the caster, to a predetermined location. That is, once a location was chosen for the spell, any future casting of the spell by that caster would always return them to the same location. The research is incomplete.

The papers containing the notes on the slave trade is not from Coran, but rather of a finer quality as comes from the Ioso islands. The information, now 10 years out of date, is of no practical value other than to tie the names of Firyin and Diguri to that practice in the past.

All three books are written in the same hand, that of a woman - no doubt Ellen's.

An appraisal of the jewelry box places it as likely having come from Akleta. The wood is white pine.

The necklace, earrings, and non-magical ring bear marks of dwarven make, probably from Issust Hold.

An appraisal of the glass figurine of the dancing couple places its worth at around 1000 gold. The craftsmanship is exquisite, and a single marking on the bottom places it as having come from the glass blowers of Mr Jumai, one of the better off merchants in the merchants guild.

With the aid of detect magic Serelina then goes over the items again, but does not find anything new in this regard.

While Serelina and Leo are examining things, a captain if the city guard delivers a message to the tower to the others. He speaks in a grave voice, "Four guardsman found dead this morning, with this note..."

I promised one per night, but who am I to deny the death wishes of foolish men who thought to save their comrade.

Serelina, I'm guessing by this time Leo would have learned what title best to refer to you, be it Wizard, Mage, Miss, Mistress, conjurer, etc. Please fill in the blank with whatever title Leo would have learned is best! (also, please let me know what that is!

After hours of research with the wizard, Leo finally slouches back in his seat and stretches his writing hand, cramped a bit from his break of near constant writing at the library. He lets out a tired sigh and turns to Serelina.

"So, ______ Bellafini, not a lot useful here. Maybe you could scribe spells from the spellbook for your own, but the rest has little use I can determine. That conjuration research is interesting though... Do you think it could be a clue to all of this?"

not sure where we all are, temporally or physically, but at some point, Rilumin will ask (i dont recall for sure but I imagine at some point they've been introduced)

"So, Ian. Of all the ones in our little group, you'd be the one with the most "ground experience." What do you make of this guard business? Radgar killing them, but also that bit I uncovered where they were being paid off."
