Here are the Character Creation Guidelines
Ok so this is going to be my first Play-by-Post as a GM.
It will be a open Tactical Sandbox combat arena. You will be able to rest and fight.
Anything I missed in the Creation Guidelines?

I'm definitely interested. 20th level is fun, even if horribly broken too.
I can't think of anything specific to add at the moment. Might want to address environmental conditions and/or the size of the demi-planes and/or their effect on things traveling through them. My first thought for a "large open arena" is a flying archer that just finds a good spot high up and shoots down at everything. Few planar effects cause disruption to fired arrows...
Azaelas Fayth |
Most of the Demi-Planes will mainly be different types of terrain. Though some of them will have no magic or increased magic.
I thought of using a Modular Spell Slot system, meaning a 4th level slot can be split into a 3rd and 1st spell slot, but decided not to implement it.
Makes the Magic Missile Spam even more potent if they can do that.
Also environmental effects will be in play.

I'm looking forward to this actually. I've tried a low level arena combat once before, where everyone was playing Monks, and enjoyed it. And I've never had the chance to play high level before (the highest I've ever gotten too before is my current Pen & Paper character, who is 12th (about to hit 13th). So this will be a rel eye opener for me in terms of the tactical use of abilities.

If you need anything just PM me.
@Nicos: Aasimar There is a link.
I meant to state that you could use the Variant Heritages but not the alternate table further down. So you can be a Plumekith but you can't choose from the tables.
Does that make sense?
Basically if it is a Subtype for an approved race it is legal.

Never did care for null-magic zones. They don't even exist within the rules except for antimagic field spell and in a demi-plane created by greater create demiplane.
It also makes it so non-spellcasters will essentially slaughter all others with impunity.
Seems hardly fair.

Pretty sure I'd be up for this.
Level 20, eh? Hmm... I'd love to stick with Gorik, and actually build him the way I really would to go to 20... but seeing as he's already going to be seeing some play, I should really come up with something new.
I'm gonna have to think about this.
Question, how do you plan on doing the whole tactical movement thing? Going by the Hunger Games inspiration, I assume it's going to involve sneaking around, and clever tactics and such, and people won't immediately be visible to each other. So, running it like normal combat obviously isn't going to work in all cases. So, can you clarify how you're thinking of running that?

Each round outside of combat will be an Hour. Inside of Combat will be the standard rules.
If you form an alliance you will be able to function like a Party until everyone else is taken down.
You will only be able to learn the other Characters names, at least until you enter the arena, but you will be able to spend the first day before entering the Arena forging Alliances and Gaining Favors(Bonuses that will be replacing Traits).
Also I recommend checking the guidelines again as you won't be getting traits.
The entire campaign will be outside. I am hoping to find a good Hex map program as that type of Map fits Outside areas better.
Non-Combat movement will be for the most part be handled abstractly.
Hope that helps.
Feel free to bring Gorik. After all a quick rebuild and 9 levels can really change a character's abilities.

Yeah, I saw traits were out. And yeah, Gorik would be quite different going to level 20 instead of 11. Hell, he might not even be a half-orc, in that case. I originally did that for weapon proficiency with a nice melee weapon, but I would much rather just dip a level of Barb. 11 was where a lot of nice stuff kicked in on the Oracle though so I didn't really wanna. I can do without the capstone though.
But eh, we'll see. There's certainly lots of options.
Also, I just can't help imagining now what a clusterf+!* the Hunger Games would be if all the combatants were Level 20 PF characters XD This should be quite interesting.

Well Katniss would be around a Level 5-6 PF Fighter(Archer). Peeta would probably be an equal leveled Fighter(Unarmed).
That is to say they are pretty powerful.
Also remember there are prestige Classes.
I guess I should state that I am pretty relaxed. I will allow nearly anything just so long as it isn't overboard and totally ridiculous.
Heck, if I was to enter this I would probably go with my Anti-Caster Martial Build.
EDIT: Nicos the answer to your question is no. The guide is updated with an explanation.

True enough. It's more the reality warping spellcasters that I'm thinking of :P
Also, are we trying to be discrete about what our characters can do so no one is aware of what talents/tricks their opponents have? If so, what is the plan for showing you the builds? I assume it wouldn't be aliases in that case.
Darkwolf117 |
Ha, wonderful, I use OpenOffice. Well, I'll check it out, and see if I can make it work. I'm sure I can manage something :P Thanks.
Incidentally, hosting it on Google would probably be most effective anyway, huh? At that point, I suppose a regular document could work just as well.
At any rate though, I still need to get a character in the first place. That's probably a good first step.
Darkwolf117 |
The MS template seems to open fine in OpenOffice, actually. That said, looking at it, I'm not sure if I'll be able to lay out all the stuff well within it. At level 20, I expect lots of shenanigans that'll make it hard to keep track of like that.
I may just make a regular document to break it down more easily, if that's alright with you. We'll see though. I don't even know what I'll need to be putting on there yet.

If anyone is interested I have a template made up that includes all of the BBcode for use as an Alias on Paizo. If you look at my 45 Aliases, you will see that every one is either a PbP Character or a Pen & Paper Character. So uh, yeah just PM me with your e-mail address and I can send it to you. It's in a Word 2007 Template file, although I could easily just save it as a regular Word .doc if you'd prefer.

Any build you want. Even RAGELANCEPOUNCE. If it requires something outside of the books specifically called out you will have to ask though.
But one must be cautious when focusing on a single tactic. It might not work all the time.
About ragelancepounce.
It actually doesn't work. They made a wording change that RAW that pretty much negates it, and the FAQ mentions it too.
