Spoiler:
If you want, you can assume that your original home is an enclave of high-tech. The DNA analyser is a good idea, you can have that if you wish, and if there are any high-tech goodies you desire let me know.

So heck, I am doing it for a living.

I can play some guitar, too.

Equipment wish list:

Spoiler:

Keep in mind I don't need everything on this list, this is just a wish list, but the items I would consider as essential are noted:

Some sort of vehicle with cable winch (4x4 preferred, like a jeep or Hummer)
repair kit (vehicle)
silenced pistol (9mm generic or LEI Mark II)^
silenced rifle (AS Val or similar)
Stun weapon*^
Ammo for weapons ^
restraints^
explosive neck collar (like in fallout)^
computer/radio/Geiger counter/GPS item (like a Pip boy from fallout)*^
armour (survival^ or light Combat or both)*
grenades (smoke, flash, stun)
Survival knife^
rations^
Full Medical kit*^
camping equipment
fishing equipment
water/food purifier*
DNA identifier*^

* indicates a high tech gadget
^ indicates a highly desired item

Also, are cybernetics available?

W00t! Sherman Tank lives!

But isn't he a level too low? The rest of us are level 5, after all.

Guy/Germain

Spoiler:
That list looks doable, except maybe the vehicle. It would probably be better to go with a mount, as gas stations are few and far between (as are paved roads). Most of the stuff seems ok. I was thinking perhaps you came from a small high-tech enclave tucked into the Berksh Mountains. From what little you have said about Germain I assume her culture was matriarchical and eats the unfit breeders. Perhaps if you could give me a precis of what kind of enclave Germain grew up in I can write you an intro

Germain:

Spoiler:

Germain Comes from a place called Gaea.

Gaea is both a matriarchal and Misandrist society. Sometime before the greater collapse of society a radical group of feminist scientists and industrialists concluded that all of mankind's failings could be blamed on the male half of the species. Faults in the male's natural aggressive and violent genetic programing were to blame for war and violence. The group built a massive underground complex which they named Gaea. When society suddenly began to fall apart the greatest female minds of the time sealed themselves away and watched as the world collapsed around them.

Early on Gaea was a completely self sustained society. All the community's needs could be provided by the complex. New generations were produced either through cloning or gene splicing. The outside world was only visited occasionally on scouting missions or for resource gathering missions.

After a few generations the all female society began to develop their own religion while simultaneously the strong dislike of males quickly grew into outright hatred. It was around this time that the first genetic diversification project started up. The community had been closed off from the outside world for sometime and their was a fear that without fresh new DNA the community might be at a disadvantaging in the new and rapidly evolving world.

Collecting stock from outsider females might have have solved some of the communities fears but the slightly intrusive procedure might have gone against the fledgling community's code of conduct . . . depending on who was interpreting the code. Unfortunately for the males in the immediate area no such code existed to protect them. Worse, a few violent encounters combined with the societies increasing misandry and the new fledgling religion's sudden demand for male blood, things very quickly spiraled out of control. Soon outlying communities were stripped of their males and slowly withered without the ability to naturally reproduce.

Females from the outside world were welcomed into the community as long as they accepted Gaea's society but few outsiders could understand or tolerate Gaea's new and disturbing culture.

There are no human males in the community except during breeding cycles, after these short cycles the unfortunate breeder is ritualistically slaughtered and then consumed. Naturally this is an unsustainable practice and would be all but impossible outside of a technologically advanced community. Germain's people would have access to cloning and gene splicing tec but constantly need fresh DNA to diversify the gene pool and gain access to natural evolution.

It's this need for fresh DNA that has Germain roaming far and wide, the community of Gaea has no strong hatred of mutants, but their religion believes that only natural pure blooded humans are suitable for consumption. Germain has been tasked with locating and retrieving at least one living pure blood male . . . but the sadistic and optimistic community has given her collars of half a dozen! Germain, in her previous missions caught word of the wreckers, and now she's decided to investigate this new and potentially endless supply of pure blooded males.

Cocoman isn't, so I was not sure if I should of been 4th or 5th, DM has confirmed I should be 5th.

Germain is basically good to go,
I'm still looking at equipment but besides that you can pop her into the game at any time.

Spoiler:
I was thinking a car mainly because drive was one of Germain's skills, now she has ride so she'll likely have a horse and perhaps a mule

I'll giver a go tonight after I finish a few things :)

Well, we had a third who was interested, endymion, but they haven't been back on since the one post that they wanted in. If you want, you can develop a character and if I don't hear anything from Endymion in the next few days I will bump them to alternate and activate your character.

Guy:

Spoiler:
I wrote up a short into for you over at the main thread. To answer a previously-asked question: Cybernetics are available in limited fashion. Any broadcast/interconnection stuff is hopeless because of nanite jammers that still clutter the atmosphere. No real repair for it either. What did you have in mind?

Patrick Curtin wrote:

Patrick:

Spoiler:
I asked the question before I realized how much cybernetics would suck in a post apocalyptic world were repairs would be few and far between. From what I understand anytime you need you fail a massive damage save the cybernetics go on the fritz. Germain only has a 12 Con so it's possible to take massive damage in almost any fight.

I had been thinking of a cyber-implant that gave Germain a bonus feat or something. perhaps something that boosted her Str or Dex, but cybernetics are probably only useful for a tough character or in a high tec world.

Can I make a slight change in Germain's back story?:

Spoiler:

I don't officially have a history written up but I have much of it figured out in my head. I was thinking that this was Germain's second solo venture into the wilds, she's been on may scouting missions, but this is only her second solo mission. This is also the furthest away from home she's ever been. Germain likely heard about these wreckers before (they sound like a destructive bunch) but this is the first time she, or anyone from Gaea, has ever investigated them.

Awesome...can I get a feel for the archetypes that are in the group, and or what might be needed ?

  • I've got a sniper, Coca Cola.

  • Vat's playing a tough hero who can survive nigh anything, Roach.

  • We've also got a giant tough ass Rastafarian crab, Sherman Tank.

  • A night flying bat, Chiro.

  • A robot who manipulates reality with mathematics, EVA.

  • and a pure strain human who tracks like all hell, Germain.

Being able to shoot is a must. A little more healing power would be useful to us, but modern doesn't do healing to well, so... Don't sweat it.

Follow your gonzo dreams. It's Gamma World out there.

  • Taldor (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

I was thinking of building something with FX abilities. The party does have one mage but a psychic character or a divine character would fill some gaps. My character concept didn't really fit with a FX character though.

I don't think we have a strong charismatic character either.

Qadira (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Roleplaying Game, Campaign Setting, Companion, Battles Case Subscriber)

Yeah, I need to have you guys get some healing tech. Real lack of clerics in Gamma World.

Qadira (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Roleplaying Game, Campaign Setting, Companion, Battles Case Subscriber)

OK, endymion, I had said it was OK for you to stat up a character ... buuut I have heard nothing since your original (and only) post. I am giving you until Sunday Morning to sound out that you are still interested or I shall bump you down to the alternate list.

Flynnster if you are still interested, post up a character. 36-point buy, 5th level, if a mutant 10 MP, if a pure strain human you get some free hi tech equipment (though you might have to run fast from Germain). Mutants can be anything from human descended to carrot descended. Synthetic beings are OK as well.

    Mhahahaha

By which I mean, please carry on.

So what happened to either endymion or Flynnster?

Qadira (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Roleplaying Game, Campaign Setting, Companion, Battles Case Subscriber)

OK, this game is open for recruitment once again! Yes, my game needs some brave post-apocalyptic folks to fight the good fight and get to Nu Ork before the Wreckers commit genocide on all mutantkind!

This game runs on a mutated hybrid of D20 Modern/Future, D20Apocalypse/Cyberspace/Past, and Gamma World (all iterations).

    Discussion thread: >HERE<

    Game thread: >HERE<

I'm looking for 3-5 folks who would like to play in the ashes of civilization. The game is over a year old, but we have had staffing issues. If you are interested, post up here. Most of the requirements have been posted in the discussion thread. Only thing I ask is that you commit to posting at least every other day; every day if possible.

    Hope to see you there!

Qadira (Pathfinder Adventure Path Charter Subscriber; Roleplaying Game, Campaign Setting, Companion, Battles Case Subscriber)

    Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

    Taldor (Pathfinder Adventure Path Subscriber)

It's really a fun game! All that's required is an imagination and some spare time.

So far I have read this thread, the original 'request for players' thread, the discussion thread, and all 1700+ posts in the campaign thread. I have also gone through and read all of the character write ups. Wow, GM and players alike, you guys have constructed some fantastic story telling. What a great adventure.

Patrick, I have seen all the maps and spidergoat pictures and I am aware of the various sites for character building and resources. But, I was wondering if you ever put together a central repository for the work you are doing.

Spending as much time as I did reading all of these posts gave an interesting insight into the real lives people lead outside of these boards. My heart goes out to those of you who have faced such trials over the last couple of years.

In that light, has anyone ever gotten an update on Neil and his battle with cancer?

    With highest regard,
    Eric

    (Pathfinder Charter Superscriber)

I'd love to play in another one of your games, but at this time don't have time to read everything posted to catch up. :( If there is a summary somewhere, or my time opens up let me know.

I haven't sadly, Cromaganon knows neil in real life, but he hasn't been posting in a while. The last news we heard was good though so I'm going to stay optimistic.

You interested in joining the game eric?

Hi Eric! Wow, that was an awful lot of reading! You made my day. As to your question, no I usually just kinda fly by the 'seat of my pants'. The maps and such I have posted still on my photobucket account, but I don't even still have the stats from the earlier fights and such. I figured no one would really be interested ...

Neil did stop by to say he was feeling better. Unfortunately we haven't heard anything from him since. After this past summer when we had a little hangup with several people dropping out for a long period, we lost Cromaganon, who was actually Neil's friend in RL. Since then, we haven't heard anything. I hope and pray that he beat it. I know that people who have battles like that often reprioritize their life, and sometimes decide that posting on a PbP is just not worth the time. I hope that's the case here.

Thanks for all the encouraging words! Also, there is still room in the game if you have a hankering to play! :)

My apologies guys, I thought that Cromangnon updated ya'll after I got out of the hospital. I am doing fine. The bone marrow transplant went very well (very unpleasent but it worked).
I was out of work for about 4 months- went back in October. Shortly after returning, I got tranfered to day shift (yeah!).
I've lurked a bit, but haven't gotten back into the habit of reading and posting on Paizo yet.
I hope you've all been well.

    Hey! You're alive!

Niel, It's great to hear you are doing well. Stay healthy!

Patrick and Guy, thanks for the invitation to join the game. I have never played a PBP game before. My biggest concern is being able to keep up with posting so I'm not slowing down the rest of the game.

If it's okay, I would like to try my hand at building a character for Appalachee Jihad. I figure, if I can do that in a reasonable amount of time then I should be able to keep up with the game.

I will post my ideas on the Appalachee Jihad Discussion thread and if all is well then I'm in.

    Thanks,
    Eric
