The players can easily decide which day they arrive on The festival is usually seven days long. The fourth day is the culmination when, like clockwork, the solar eclipse happens. The day after being the first day of the year, and the first day of spring.
Minato is the westernmost port town of the Serpent Isles, the name literally meaning Harbor. Unlike the majority of the Serpent Isles, Minato is entirely neutral. The Kageno family only has loose ties within the city, leaving it open to all sorts of political games, including having a sizable portion of Marinhiro nobility that settle here. The overall theme is a blend of east asian elements.
While some of the streets are simple dirt paths, the majority is made up of cobblestone, the central street having recently been smoothed for ease of flow.
The trees surrounding Minato are covered in buds, nearing the breaking point between the majority simply being budded, and making their way into a haven of flowers and petals. The treelined paths are picturesque, like something out of a painting, dappled with pink, white, and red flowers peeking out amongst the trees, the majority of which are peach.
The day is mostly a lazy day. Nothing seems to be going on besides preparation. The streets are being swept, the taverns and inns being aired out, rugs being beaten... and the port seems to be primarily full of merchants coming in with new wares, filling the wider street's center corridors with shopping areas.
The night, however, is quite different. The lights of the town are kept intentionally dark on the first day, in respect of Woan. The moon is nearly full, and the stars shine brightly in the sky. It's a night that speaks of secrets.
Amazing scents fill the air, now that the buildings, having been left open after airing out, have begun to cook their foods. Any sort of oriental cuisine you could dream of is available to you today. Likewise, foods from all over the world that could make the trip (and some that really shouldn't have been able to) are available in the stalls that line the central walk that moves from the harbor, all the way to the other side of the city.
The trees have begun to blossom even more now, and the harbor is filled to the brim not only with merchant ships, but charter ships as well. The feasts that began the night before continue today. Trinkets likewise become readily available, from both reputable sources and sources less reputable. Stalls now fill several of the side streets so that they're only walking room, no carriages able to slip through any longer. Areas have begun to be cordoned off for the parades that will begin on day three. Speaking of parades, floats have begun making their way into the city from both inland, and boats.
The night begins with several shows; every tavern that wasn't outright cheap has some sort of entertainment, and half of the eateries do as well. The fireworks begin, filling the clouds with with earthly essence, even as it fills the space between heaven and earth with fire. Most of the fireworks are -tastefully- not overbearing soundwise, simply cascading a shower of sparks.
Petals of the older blossoms are beginning to fall, coating the world in white, pink, and red, that seems to dance whenever the wind blows inland, carrying the salty sea air throughout the village, and making everyone just a little bit more thirsty. Today, nearly anything of entertainment can be found. People from all over the world have congregated, the port overfilled with ships, making it nearly as impossible to arrive as it is to leave. People who arrive today actually have to move from ship to ship across planks set out for just such a thing.
Nightfall comes later...
Everyone who has a knowledge skill, give me a roll for each knowledge skill you have invested in. In order to do so, use something similar to this: :dice=Knowledge(arcana): 1d20+5 :/dice: Replacing : with [ or ] to open or close brackets. Replace 'arcana' with whichever knowledge you're rolling. Replace the bonus with whichever bonus applies. Your results should look like this:

It is viable to come into town from the northeast via major road from the rest of the isles, from the southwest by boat, or from the northwest or southeast via sandy coastline. The northwest is more heavily wooded (starting into jungle) while the southeast has rapid elevation shifts where there isn't sand. If you're not -from- the Serpent Isles, the only option is to have arrived by boat, or to have taken a dwarven underground roadway from one of the other Isles, where you, again, arrived by boat.
Regardless of how you get here, unless you directly choose to interact with another player, it is best to limit what you do during days 1 and 2. That way we don't spend 3 weeks on one person figuring out what kind of candy they want to eat. Or whether or not said candy explodes.

Robin Kageno |

A human female with brown eyes and white hair steps off a ship along the southwestern side of town; her face is impassive, her skin is tan and marked with scars from wounds long denied magical healing. She carries a sword on one hip and what appears like two spiked balls connected with a rope along the other, her sole form of defense seems to be a chain shirt that she is wearing despite it being a time of peace.

Hot DM |

A girl with shoulder-length pink hair, tied into a high pony tail slipped off the ship behind Robin. She was dressed in a silvery-blue kimono, wooden sandals, and socks. The sash that tied off her kimono was a pink that matched her hair, which likewise matched her eyes. She seemed to have a perpetual grin as she took in her surroundings in a much more excited, though less thorough manner than her apparent bodyguard. She stayed close to Robin, as she was lead down the dock. She seemed to be speaking animatedly, which could be seen even from a distance.
"You know, they say that the star candy is good luck, right? We should get some of that before we go find a place to spend the week. Are you looking forward to anything while we're here?"
As you reach the end of the pier, a halfling girl, dressed in a sun dress of all things, probably no older than ten runs towards you giggling. She tugs at your Bolas to get your attention if you don't prevent her from doing so. Once she has your attention, she holds up what appears to be a piece of glass, shaped into a five-petaled star-shaped flower. Despite the fact that it's blue, rather than pink, it looks just like the blossoms sprouting on all of the trees.
The child's voice sounds similar to Annie's from League of Legends as she speaks. "You wanna buy a peach blossom? It's only five silver!"
((Appraise, Know(Dun), or Craft Glassblowing for more information))
If Robin opts out of buying the blossom, Phoebe will buy it for her, grinning, and tell her to keep it as a souvenir. Robin has long ago realized that Phoebe is terrible with money management (having been raised rich), and if she didn't steer her away from stalls, they'd buy a little of everything. In this case, it would be too late, though.
Hi Zoey!

Hot DM |

The little girl grinned up at her and scampered back off to the side of the pier, to chase after some seagulls, who fled down the coastline. She stopped at the edge, still grinning.
"Oh, um... alright." Phoebe nodded. "You didn't answer the question." she pointed out, as she took the flower. She continued up the main path, the flow of traffic relatively thin, and moving into the town, along the recently-maintained cobblestone path.

*Skitter skitter*
"AYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
A small cloaked figure runs away from the fireworks staging area.
The chances of him being on fire: Very High.

Everett |

On the second day of the festival, people stare as a tall elven looking man steps off a chartered boat. They are not staring at him really; after all elves are common enough even though he's taller, paler, and slightly ... off compared to most elves. And it is the second day of the festival so people are coming and going from boats all the time.
No, instead they are staring more at his furry companion, a brown bear cub. It comes up to about thigh height on him, dark brown, and obviously curious as to what's around it. It seems to follow about five feet behind him, stopping every little bit to sniff and take in new sights. For those who know what to look for, the gentleman is doing the same though he's a bit more discreet about it.
"Come along little one. We'll have time to look around later. I wish to find us a room for the night first before they all sell out. And the last town took some time." Everett said, intentionally leaving out that the reason for the difficulty find a room was that no one wanted to have a bear cub in their inn. After all it wasn't Beagán's fault that no one appreciated her shiny coat or believed she was well behaved. For a bear cub at least.

Day Two!
But on your way in, a slight elven girl with green hair moves up to you, giving you a wink, despite being dressed quite conservatively. She's holding out an ornate wooden box to you, four small glass baubles inside, two seem to be missing. "Fancy taking a piece of the festival home with you? Only five silver and you can have a jewel that will remind you of your trip for the next decade!"
Regardless of whether or not Everett buys the shard from her, she'll bend down to playfully rub the bear around the ears and neck, smiling gently to the creature, as she rests the box on her legs. "Reminds me of my dad."
The elf is covered in tattoos where her slip of a dress doesn't cover her. When she bends down it's apparent as her dress slips up above her ankle, though it'd be easy to miss as the bear is in the way.
As the girl bends down to pet beneath the bear's neck and around his scruff, it almost looks like she's putting a... collar on him. But then it's gone.
As the girl bends down to pet beneath the bear's neck and around his scruff, it almost looks like she's putting a... collar on him. But then it's gone.
You'll later, or perhaps now, notice a small white star-shape in her chest fur.
You don't see her put the collar on, but later tonight, or when you next pay close attention to the bear's frontside, you'll notice a small white star-shape in her chest fur that was never there before.

Phoebe tucked in to breakfast then changed into some fresh clothing. "Well... they said there'd be more food today... but I'm not sure about going out of our way to find food, when these guys will feed us. There's fireworks tonight... but otherwise it's paying too much and getting too little. Being Marinhiro, I'm used to being on the other end of that logic." She grinned again, before heading for the door, now slaked and surfeit for the day ahead.

It Hadn't occurred to the goblin how bad of an idea such a thing could be. As a point of fact, 'fire' and 'bad idea' probably had never made it into the same sentence for the little guy. Except if the question was what to do about a bad idea.
As he hurried away, the explosion clapped a few feet over his head, sending a shower of red and blue sparks into everything around him... but the screeching didn't stop. It became apparent that either his ears were ringing, or he was being chased by a gnome!

The ships hadn't come in yet, and the elf was no where to be seen quite yet. Phoebe made her way down a side street, searching for objects of interest, things that would catch her eye. No one seemed interested in starting a ruckus. As a point of fact, if not for Robin looking like a guard, most people would have no idea who Phoebe even was!

Picking up one of the glass baubles that he thinks the children back at the monastery might find interesting, Everett says, "five silver you say?"
Fishing out five sliver coins, he hands them to her as she bends down. Hearing what she says, he notices a slight change in Beagán's coat. That star wasn't there before. He would recall it since she begs to be brushed down every night before bed. She's more then a bit proud of her coat.
"Was your father a druid per chance?" Everett ask the girl when he hears her.

Hot DM |

The baubles vary in color. Blue, green, yellow, orange. There doesn't appear to be any difference, really.
The girl petting Beagán smiles, and nods. "Quite definitely, at least in the traditional sense. I don't think I've ever seen an animal that didn't love him. She's quite beautiful, you know. You take excellent care of her." She was still busily scratching behind the bear's ears, moving with the grain of the coat, rather than against it. Finally she rose, clutching the box back to her chest. "Any plans for the festival while you're here?"

Hot DM |

"MMhmm. There's going to be fireworks tonight. I thought we'd watch those, either from the balcony at the Salty Draft, or from the coast. There are supposed to be some game tents coming up soon. And I think you're going to win me something, probably." She grins as she moves onwards through the streets.
He looked over to the man, "Needing a place to hang your hat for the festival? We've still got two rooms... prob'ly the only place in town that can boast one." He could hear the smile in the gnome's face, despite not being able to see it for the thick beard. From up close, the brawler could see that the gnome had a sort of catwalk built beneath the bar. There was space for a human bartender as well, but it'd be a squeeze, so that the gnome would have a much easier time maneuvering.

Hot DM |

Up the stairs, and through your door, probably depositing things in the room... and out onto the balcony. Food would be brought up later! To either side of the room's balcony was... more balconies. The balcony would be private enough for sound, if not visually so. Dusk was just settling over the place... the fireworks show not yet beginning.

Quiggy: Night 2.
Zoey: Night 2.
Andy: Day 3.

Xowar |

Barley looks around The Salty Draft keeping mental note of all exits and entrances are along with making sure no one followed him in.
Yes sir, I would greatly appreciate somewhere to stay for the night. I just recently got here and was wondering if you could point me in a direction to anything special going on with the festival tonight that one would not want to miss.

Hot DM |

"Well, You've come to the right place for a spot to rest your head!" he grabs for one of the two remaining keys and slides it onto the countertop. "As for things not to miss... well, there's food, drink, and games. At night, there'll be fireworks, and just before night time there's going to be a parade of dragons! In most every other building you'll find some entertainment... I prefer a bit of peace and quiet in here, and I figure folks that want private rooms with food delivered to their door don't much mind not having some stranger caterwauling. You'll probably want to find some sort of souvenir as well! It's not every day we get to throw the festival of the Peach Dragon! Also, if you're just not interested much in town, there's the beach, and then there's a shrine up in the distance, if you follow the main road north out of town. Path becomes a bit windy off on the left and that'll lead you to the shrine. That's more than a day away, though. So I guess doesn't fit your criteria of 'tonight'. The shrine's dedicated to Geana the Scaled, and anyone looking to travel safely should stop by it when they've got nothing better to do!

Hot DM |

Otherwise, he was free to go on about his day!

Everett |

Watching the young girl carefully, Everett replies, "I know a few such people like your father were I came from. Could charm the coat off a yeti."
Wishing to end the conversations quickly, but not rudely, Everett says, "My only plans for the moment is to find a hotel for my companion and I. Then see the festival and whatever it holds. I understand there are to be fireworks this evening. So I imagine I will be catching the show while here."
"Do you have a suggestion for what to see here first? Or perhaps you can help me find my way around this festival. I personally am use to a much smaller gathering of people."
He ask her, with a gentle smile and a hopeful look, in hopes of finding out how to contact her again if whatever she did to Beagán proves harmful. Information is key after all.

Robin Kageno |

When they got back to the room Robin would walk over to the table and begin to remove her weapons and armor leaving her in her cloth uniform and the glass blossom phoebe had given her still in her hair, she sorted her items on the table so they were easy to grab if she needed to be ready in a hurry then headed out to the balcony.

Hot DM |

Out to the balcony the two went. The crowds below were... crazy. It was a tide of people that only a member of House Peladis could navigate with ease. Which meant the people sliding and jostling through for better seats very likely were of Peladis. Balconies, rooftops, and the coast all seemed to be significantly better choices... and the rooftops and coasts had their fair share of people. It wouldn't be long until the fireworks started.
Robin is now caught up with Matches/Shiero. That means that we'll pause her interactions until we iron out exactly what happens with Matches. If Robin/Anyone Else opts to go out to see what's up, after I say it's good to react to, feel free to time skip, as I plan to have everything interaction-wise handled by the time you arrive, to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Shiero/Matches |

The only thing Matches loves more than fire is hating gnomes that try to ruin his love of all things fiery. However, being new to this place he doesn't want a confrontation.
"Better hide!"
Matches darts into a dark alley and attempts to fade into the shadows.

The gnomish girl seemed to have no idea where he'd gone once he got into the dark alleyway, though.
"Where'dya go?"
She looked around... and spotted him by the beady red pinpoints of his eyes.
"Hi! I'm Tenny!"
The gnome had bright green hair and didn't at all look tribal. Nor did she have a snake. Nor did she have a dinosaur! Instead, she had a little spell component pouch, human sized, slung over her shoulder like a purse. She didn't seem to be wearing any armor either.

Hot DM |

Everyone who's now on Night 2:
A cacophony of light and sound fills the sky on the northeastern side of town. It seems something has gone -terribly- wrong with the firework show. Or terribly right, depending on how you look at things. Dark smoke climbs into the air merging with the clouds, as sparks of every color fill the air... and some streets. Smoke continues to rise even after the explosions die down.
The crowd is shifting -away- from the northeast, meaning if anyone did head that way, they'd be moving against the tide.

Hot DM |

If Matches follows her in, the young gnome is already peeling her bag off her shoulder, and moving things around on her bed. She digs under her bed for a moment, and pulls out a book, red, for obvious reasons, a little red glass charm dangling from a strip of silk being used as a bookmark. Whether he'd come in or not, the gnome seems to be in her own little world. "Do you like fire?"

Shiero/Matches |

Matches did decide to follow her in.
"Like it? I worship it!"
Matches does an awkward series of spastic, excited movements that culminates in a curtsy. Most people would not refer to this as a dance, so much a seizure.
"What's in the book?"

Hot DM |

Even still, it was the first real look he'd gotten. Big comfy bed. Lots of random gears and cogs and things that were mostly ignored. Tons of glass objects, and a few fluffy objects. Three doors as well. Two on one wall, on in the middle of the other, opposite the window.
"I can do -that- as much as I want! And it doesn't even have to be candles. Unless we're in the house. Then candles are the only thing I'm allowed to set on fire." She looked down at the little bookmark for a second, chewing on her lip. "A really nice lady gave me this today, she said it'd be good if I kept it. It reminds me of fire, so I was definitely going to... but I think you should keep it. Because... you know, you worship it. And clerics are s'poseta have holy symbols!" The gnomish girl held out the little silk bookmark with the red piece of star-burst like glass to the goblin.
(Appraise roll, if you'd like DC 15.)

Shiero/Matches |

Matches was not used to someone being nice to him. This combined with the gnome's love of fire kindled a warmth inside him he had never felt before.
"I don't call fire from above, so much as make it myself with my chemicals. But it is very pretty, so I can take it if you insist."

Hot DM |

The gnome would lead him, if he would follow, up to the rooftop, providing a clear view. She'd also offer to let him sleep in her dresser drawer, stuffed with a pillow and a blanket put over it. If he doesn't have anywhere better to stay.
The fireworks show... in the other three corners of the city (that is to say, not northeast) begin to launch into the sky. Maybe it was just some technical difficulty. Assuming no one has any objections... moving on to day 3. :) Barley will be in the tavern come tomorrow morning... and assuming Quiggy goes along with staying in the gnome's dresser, he'll find himself in the Salty Draft the next morning. :)

The lands of the serpent isles are well known for their neutrality, but in addition to that, they're well known for their sense of -balance-. Most of the magic of the arcane variety within this corner of the world is primarily elemental (for example, fire school wizardry), or powered by words themselves (for example, bards). On this particular island, you know of an arcane school dedicated to the study of fire. It's far to the northwest of the harbor, and in nearly the opposite direction of where you would head if you wanted to reach any of the other islands (East North East). You know that it lies in a basin surrounded by high cliffs, but that's all that you know for certain. This information may not be of value now, but if you needed an idea for where your character might like to go later, the information is there.
Aside from the Peach Dragon festival, Everett knows of several interesting locations to visit.
Following the beach on the southeastern edge of the city would lead to a small cove. Within the small cove is a space that is filled with water at all but the lowest tide. Traveling within that cave leads down into stony cavern that has several pools teeming with life. One pool, in particular is actually an underwater passageway into a deeper cave. Rare and valuable alchemical ingredients grow and form within this cavern, one particular ingredient being a mushroom that absorbs moisture at a supernatural level. Just a small sprinkling of its spores will turn fresh wood into wood ready for burning. More spores result in a wider effect, rather than a stronger one. Handling the spores results in a penalty to avoiding catching on fire, and direct contact with sunlight destroys the spores. If sprinkled in a damp place that sunlight does not touch, it is possible to create a small farm of these spores.
The Serpent Isles is home to a balance of elements. This particular island, however, is more attuned to fire, according to knowledge of the landscape. In the northwest, there is a mountain where fire elemental spirits are said to be seen infrequently, and while some say that they're dangerous, others claim to have been blessed in some manner by the creatures. It's difficult to discern a pattern, and it seems to be entirely random from the few stories you've heard. The element of fire seems to also let up, the further you travel to the northeast.
The island is primarily covered in forest and stone, where there is not sandy beach, there is mountain, or there are trees, with the exception of a few locations. There is a stream that winds down from the mountains to the north and seems to cross the path leading from the city to the underground tunnels to the northeast that travel to other islands. To the northwest of the location where the path bridges the stream, it is said that there is a grove of exceptionally intelligent animals. The precise reasoning for this isn't known, but it would certainly be a location worth visiting.
In addition, once more, to the north of the road leading to the next set of islands, there is said to be a large circle of stones with varying degree of connection. Those who venture near the stones claim to hear childlike laughter coming from everywhere at once.

The center of the main streets has been cordoned off some time in the night, forcing people to funnel their way either along the sides of the main streets or the side streets. Of course, the festival is just beginning to reach it's peak. Only a day away from solstice! Flower blossoms are scattered nearly everywhere, creating visible windfunnels of color, like flying pink-red-and-purple snakes, hopping and dancing in all of the open spaces. Likewise there are several blankets of the petals just resting in alcoves where they aren't being disturbed by people.

All the same, after a quick bath and breakfast, Phoebe is ready to go. The two find several performance acts, mostly in the forms of plays that have a pseudo-historical value. Phoebe's somewhat interested, but at the same time put off by the idea of sitting around for it. You probably catch half a show of masks and exotic costumes, and more exotic stories about how humans impacted the serpent isles with their arrival... but the end result was mostly lost in the apparent need to turn the story into a romance. Maybe it would have made sense if they'd seen the first half. They finally manage to find the star candies that Phoebe wouldn't shut up about for the first day. A box of six is a goldpiece, but they provide a +1 morale bonus on the first saving throw made within an hour after eating them.

Phoebe does, definitely, want the candies.
The day goes by... and everyone heads back to the tavern for dinner and rest, the main street is closed off almost entirely now. The parades will be starting soon!
The sea isn't really visible from the balconies, aside from a dozen ships that completely block line of sight to the other ships, and the rest of the ocean.
The roar of the crowd grows louder as the parade grows nearer, the sun has just begun to set, the reflection of the sun's light directly on the ocean would be blinding, if not for all those sails in the way.
The roaring steadily grows louder as the first long-dragon-float starts coming down the street. The sky steadily grows darker. Too quickly. The sails are all in the way, but something seems to be blocking out the clouds. You see a long sinuous emerald-colored dragon float flying in over the ships. It has one massive horn protruding from its nose... it looks so lifelike.

When you come to... everything around you is devastation. Most of the harbor and all of the ships lie in ruins. There are dead bodies everywhere, covered in acid burns... that you can see. None of you are burned by acid... except for Phoebe. Pheobe's arms and legs have acid burns on them where Robin's body wasn't able to completely shield her.
It's dark. It's sometime in the middle of the night, now. Acrid smoke fills the air and makes it difficult to breathe... when you even can without coughing. It's like the devil poured salt into the smoke that fills the ruins around you.
Barley and Matches have to dig their way out of the rubble, but they come to at around the same time as the others... hours later. Beaghan has dug Everett out by the time he awakes.
You all awaken in a pile of rubble, and have to push things off of your body, it's unknown what strange miracle saved your life, or spared it. As a point of fact, you can't see anyone nearby that is alive that wasn't in the inn. But... there are these strange fourpronged tracks, like that of a chicken, but much larger (perhaps the size of a halfling's feet), with four talons, three forward and one back on each foot. The tracks lead all over the town, usually to bloody messes, and nearly everything of value looks like it's been stolen. There's still quite a bit to be looted for those who have the stomach for it. Oddly... none of your possessions have been touched.
Everett is at 1 hp when he awakens... and has a massive headache. The bear seems grumpy.
Barley is at full hp but has a massive headache.
Robin is at 10 hp, and has a massive headache.
Matches is at full hp but has a massive headache.
Phoebe is not yet awake.
You are all able to loot any masterwork tools you like, as long as the price for any object you take is below 60gp. Whatever attacked couldn't pillage everything. It is now the pinnacle day of the festival.
