Pharast 13
The day is nice and sunny and you spend the day exploring the hex the Stag Lords Fort is in. The Lake and River are full of fish and at least this portion of the river seems navigable. Another river flows into the lake from the west from the forest called the Skunk River. The terrain is hilly. The night is clear and there are no encounters.

Pharast 14
The temperature climbs into the 50's. It almost feels like Spring. Your group explores northwest. The terrain continues to be hilly and around noon you discover a dense patch of rasberry like bushes growing between two low hills. The entire patch is draped with gossamer spider silk and you can see that they appear to have just hatched and infest the berry patch.

K/Nature DC 12:
These are fangberries. A very rare and magically potent form of raspberry. If you harvested all the berries you would get the equivalent of 4 Magic Points that can be used for potions or sold to a potion maker.

K/Nature DC 19:
The spiders are of a variety called Chew Spiders. There are the equivalent of 2 Spider Swarms infesting the bushes.

As they begin their journey back in a somewhat smaller group Vors enjoys the rays of the sun and the somewhat quieter times. The rolling hills makes him reminisce the joys of home.

Noticing at the berries he smiles. "Any one else fancy a little sweet?" he asks. He dismounts and approaches slowly. The silk puzzles him and He stops cautiously looking for signs of what spiders may inhabit the web.

"I'd wait for a different bush if I were you." Bej puts a hand on Vors' forearm. The mage kneels down, examining the plant "Aye. Just as I thought. This here is fangberry. Quite the portent, this little plant – alchemists and brewers use it as a base for most potions. I can only imagine the joy of th’ young lassie if she was to see this." he scratches his head under the coonskin hat “The berries are worth a nice buck, they keep their properties even after being harvested. However…” and he points at the gossamer “…this can prove quite unpleasant. Those there are Chew Spiders. Nasty bugs, they swarm all over you and can even be poisonous.

He turns to his companions, a bit of shame on his face “I feel like an arse. I don’t have single spell in my book that can do a thing to creatures this small. And of course axes and arrows aren’t of any help.” he looks up at Rowan and Anastacia “Do you have anything? Alchemical weapons work well, or similar spells... anything? Otherwise I guess we can always light torches and smoke them out…

"I have a flaming sphere spell… not really sure how effective it'll really be against a swarm though. Or I could try summoning a cold frost. Just not sure if the berry bushes would be damaged by it or not."

The flaming sphere spell works. If someone volunteers to be bait then you can do it without damaging the plants. In game terms, someone has to volunteer to beat the spider swarms initiative twice, once for each swarm. You can 'volunteer' by making an initiative check in this thread which I will then oppose with theirs. Fail and you will take one round of the swarms damage and possible poisoning. Either way the sphere will burn the swarm to a crisp.

"They very well could be. Dareon and the others are planning on crafting a few magic items for the group. Having these berries would be useful and I'm pretty sure I could burn the little spiders to a crisp if someone wants to lure them out." Rowan looks around with a smile on his face.

"Any volunteers?" he asks.

Would there be any additional effects if I were to cast Goodberry on these?

Male Human (Issian) Fighter 1/Transmuter 5

I'd volunteer, but Vors has better initiative and better Fort save for the posion should he fail.
Bej will use augment to boost his dexterity by 2 (so +1 Init) and resistance to boost his Fort save by 1.
However, I have another option.

"I may be wrong, brother" he says to Rowan "but last time I met a druid blessed by Ol' Deadeye, he could summon all sorts of critters and beasts. My guess is that you can, too? Just send a giant rat to snoop them spiders out, then burn them!"

Bej is referring to the druid's ability to spontaneously convert spells into summon nature’s ally, and send a dire rat (or a small fire elemental if you don’t want to risk harming an ani-mal, so you can touch him with the flaming sphere and he’ll be happy).
EDIT: Rowan, did you level up to level 5?

I did stat-wise, just forgot to change the 4's to 5's. Thanks for pointing that out.

"You are correct and that does seem to be a better plan. I've made it a habit to only call on Erastil's blessings only when needed. Give me a moment."

Drop ant haul in exchange for summon monster I. I'm posting from my phone right now, I'll post the casting once I look up what animals I can summon on my lunch break.

That is a much better plan! But less opportunity for mayhem for me :( If you do this and summon a creature with at least 7 hit points then you can do it with one summon and one flaming sphere. If it has 6 or less hit points then you'll need to summon a second if the hit points don't exceed a random d6 roll. Goodberries made from these berries will heal 2 HP per berry. I'll let you get 3 sets of goodberries from the batch without significantly effecting the haul.

"From the blessed fields of Erastil…" Rowan summons a pony into being a short distance away from the berry bushes. He then begins summoning the burning mass that is Flaming Sphere as the spiders begin to swarm and leave their webs to attack the pony.

Summoned pony has 13 hp unless you want me to roll 2d8+4.

After the spiders have been taken care of, Rowan begins harvesting the bushes and keeps a few handfuls of the berries to use for healing purposes once he has prepared the right spells tomorrow.

Shading her eyes with a hand, the young woman looks ahead. "Control of the high ground is always of tactical benefit. We're just exploring, though, so I'm not sure it makes much difference either way. We are going to have to cover it all."

Then as an afterthought Anastacia adds: "The forest might shelter us from the storm better."

Bej takes his furs and heavy clothes out of the saddlebags “Aye, I agree. Forest looks better, trees will provide cover and we can find plenty of good timber to make a shelter should we be pinned for a few days.

Are you all ok with the cold? I do have a nice trick in my spellbook that will make even the most freezing of weathers almost trivial, how many times do I need to memorize it?

Is this hex completely explored? Did we find suitable terrain for farms, or sawmills, or similar?

The hex is totally explored. It is hilly terrain, you can develop it as you wish although for this particular hex there will be no bonuses.

Vors dismounts and readies himself for the boar's charge. Bej moves his horse back a little bit and throws his spell. Anastacia dismounts and casts Bless.

The boar crashes through the underbrush towards the party, winding up about 50'away with a clear line to Vors and Anastacia. It is huge!

Actually, its merely large, but it is the biggest boar any of you have ever seen. I don't want to make a map, I will if neccessary. It is medium forested, about every other hex is difficult terrain. Basicly you can take 5' steps but any movement over 5' will be reduced by 1/4 (The Boar has a move of 40' so that went down to 30'). Currently there is an unbroken line of hexes between Rowan, Vors and Anastacia so either of them can charge it or be charged in return. because of this there is a clear line of sight to it for you archer types.

Say, Anastacia” he adds then towards the cleric “Can’t you Pharasmins stop decomposition on a corpse? I seem to recall that’s one of your powers, ain’t it?” he asks “Perhaps you can stop the heads from decay, so that we can carry it back to Oleg’s, make something of a show... we are here to make the Greenbelt safer, i bet this a good step in the right direction, folks should know about it!

Regarding the storm, Bej looks apprehensive at the sky “I don’t much fear the cold. Plenty of snow where I come from, and I have my warm clothes and also a spell for the occasion. Still, the lair of this beast will protect us enough… if it doesn’t kill us with its stench.

Bej quickly butchers some choice meat from the boar, saving its head. It is a race against the elements as the light snow, turns into heavy snow and high wind. Bej wins the race however and Tuskgutter's lair provides good cover from the elements, and along with a small fire you are relatively comfortable. Even though Bej is able to cook more than enough to sate everyone's hunger, he has made only the slightest dint in the corpse. By the next morning you find that around 8" of snow has fallen. You also are awoken to the howling of wolves. Although you can hear them in the distance and you can occasionally catch a glimpse of one they do not approach.

"Well, it works." Anastacia gives Vors a smile.

Anastacia helps Bej and Vors in handling the boar. If the meat is to be preserved the carcass must be hung up so that the blood can be drained off. Of course the meat must be gutted as well.

Anastacia looks surprised at Bej's suggestion. "That's not what that spell is intended for." Anastacia looks thoughtful. "It would work, I believe."
I can't think of any reason not to use it for such a purpose. I didn't pray for that power last night, but I can do so tonight, at sunset. It's not going to spoil soon in this cold anyway."

Anastacia shivers a little. She is warmly dressed, but the chill wind has a way of finding its way into even the thickest wool. The cleric's steel armor just soaks up the cold, so that doesn't help either.

"I hope those wolves keep their distance. They can have the gut pile when we go, and none will have to die."

Vors and Rowan notice two strange creatures watching them from the treetops. They never actually approach but seem to be watching and following the party of explorers. One is the size of a large cat and she seems to be a mix of grasshopper and human. The other is about the same size and seems to ba a dragon with butterfly wings.

Rowan surreptitiously points out the two creatures to the others and tells them the grasshopper like creature is a grig. The dragon is called a faerie dragon. They are both fey creatures.

As they begin their journey that day Vors happily claps his belly. "nothing brings joy like a healthy meal," he say and continues: "It was a feast fit for kings yesterday."

When Rowan comments on their new companions Vors asks: "Are there any danger?"

Rowan replies. "They could be spies. But most likely they just live here. This is the type of terrain they prefer. And they aren't deadly as such, but they do love practical jokes."

"Shall we see if they will talk to us? If they just live here it would be good to befriend them. Though I'm not a fan of practical jokes."

"Where is the silver tongue, when you need her," Vors remarks and ask: "Rowan would you try?"
