If you're going with an amalgam universe, can I be Spider Jerusalem?

It would be unfair of me to say yes, considering I have zero interest in someone with the personality traits of Spider per his wikipedia entry

Quote:

One of Spider's most apparent character traits is his heavy drug use, which he makes no attempt to conceal. In addition to being a chain smoker and heavy drinker, Spider uses an extensive and bewildering variety of drugs ranging from mild stimulants, intellect enhancers, and mood-altering drugs to cocaine, heroin and rare, exotic, futuristic drugs. As is common in his society, Spider is resistant or immune to many forms of drug addiction, as well as lung cancer. Spider is well known for his foul language, especially when combining the word "f$@!" with other words to make new and amusing insults. Spider is easily angered, his displays of temper ranging from mild verbal outbursts to violent physical assault.

Similarly, I wouldn't be interested in a Lobo-like character, a Punisher knock-off, or any other "hero" who's a bigger jerk than Cyclops and/or a less moral person than Wolverine.

Heh, gotta love the Cyclops bashing. Not much can be said about a guy who shoots red colored, solar powered sound from his eyes.

Speedster is called Quicky. He's a physical paragon because that's the only way I see a speedster working without cheating on physics like momentum and such. I'll have him posted tomorrow.

Spider Jerusalem was a joke idea. Transmetropolitan is a great series, but I had no expectation of being allowed to play him. In defense of both the character and the series, the entire world is a pretty cynical place and Spider is legitimately the hero. Maybe an anti-hero, but he's not a villain protagonist.

I actually like Cyclops, not having read any X-Men for the past five or so years. Really, I should have said bigger jerk than Prof X, but people seem to mostly agree that Cyclops' pole is firmly planted along with his head.

I get that. Glad you were joking. The character just doesn't fit a "bronze age of comics Earth's Mightiest" campaign, which looks like this is turning into.

Seems like we have enough interest to turn this into a recruiting thread. I will likely post such a thing in the next two days. I just need to work out some historic details and some more specific recruitment terms.

I made this character a loooong while ago using the DC rules. He's at power level 8, but I can happily bump up his power to 12 or so. It's been a while since I've messed with M&M rules.

Basic elevator pitch: Tenfold is a powered individual who can generate nine duplicates of himself (for the total of ten multiples, of course). His body absorbs sound energy in order to generate the duplicates, so he has the drawback of not being able to hear (since his body absorbs the sound before it registers in his ears). He's also super-strong and resilient, with the ability to lift 10 tons. There's sort of a "10" theme going for him.

You can click on the avatar to see his current stats, and the basics of his personality in the very short-lived game he was in.

Edit: In rereading my own avatar page, I see where I wrote a little vignette while trying to get into a different M&M game, set in the 80s. I'd definitely rework that to suit whatever amalgam setting you're going for. But it does set up his brother's villainous streak.

RE: Daredevil/Batman pastiche, I'm ALLLLL over that if no one else hops on!

I've had all 3 versions of M&M, but I've only ever played 2nd edition once, so I'm very curious to see how it all shakes out with a decade worth of half-remembered rules floating around in my head.

Sczarni

I think a "Harry Dresden" would be fun to play.

Strong evocation magic, with some tricks and less flashy spells added in. PL with the Winter Mantle seems about right.

I will see about working up a Mystic Investigator.

Let's start with an image.

Dalton Shepard manages the nanite zoo at Star Labs. Over three thousand species of nanites kept for research and identification purposes. Many of them were classified and kept off public records. Many groups would not appreciate the research value of Coluan technology and StarkTech, among others. They couldn't get very far with the time-displaced technology, but they would get to it.

One hundred and seventeen of them had special containment protocols. They used special methods to ensure that they were kept away from energy or matter they could use to replicate. Forcefields, vacuum, null-energy rays, repulsive levitation, temporal stasis. All with redundant power sources. It would have worked great if it weren't for the giant energy beam physically impacting the containment unit.

Dalton is pretty sure he died in the attack. He remembers having a piece of rebar coming out of his chest before getting tunnel vision and blacking out. He was unharmed when he came to. Medical checked him out with no problem. And as they scanned him, he felt his insides changing to present the proper image on the scans. He knew what was happening. As he needed information, it came to him. His mind was racing thousands of times faster than it ever did before. It took nanoseconds to figure out what happened.

That unit had a sample from Brainiac 8 and from Stark's model 38 nanotech suit. The unit had countermeasures designed to destroy the sames before they could be released, but somehow they got into him. a few microseconds more an he understood his capabilities. The nanotech had bonded with his organic nature, creating a hybrid cyborg. Their systems would rearrange to his will within their capabilities. An amazing level of flexibility.

Despite his fears, he didn't seem to be under control. It seems the personality of Brainiac wasn't present. He had no doubt that he should use these powers to help others.

Two supers games in as many weeks. Handy.

Debating:
1) Ice guy with some side effects that make normal life difficult for him. Like his body constantly condenses water vapor around him so he's always wet. Very inconvenient, but he's sort of used to it. Could be water and hard water constructs instead of ice.
2) Shadow controller, probably with combat tentacles of some kind. Possibly the power itself is kind of evil, or amoral, but he's got firm control of himself and uses it for good. Or he thinks it's evil because it feels and looks creepy, and worries for no good reason.
3) A robot. I don't know powers. Just a robot. Robots are cool. He'd like being a robot and find the whole wanting to be human trope an amusing case of human egotism.
4) An artificial human originally built to replace a dead loved one (and imprinted with loved one's neural patterns) or as a backup for a supervillain, but promptly became a good guy. Some issues arising from how he isn't who he's "supposed" to be.

I am ridiculously torn in my ability to make a decision, so let me pitch two concepts, and I will try to figure it out from there ...

The beginnings of each concepts background follow, now, truth be told, I typically play the morally upright, paragon or team leader concept, something I had hoped to avoid by playing a snarky Tony Stark of some sort ... but ... read on ...

Option One:
Background: Kal-El was born on the doomed planet, Krypton, the only son of renowned scientist Jor-El and his wife Lara. Jor-El, an influential member of the Planetary Senate had observed the approach of the Silvered Stranger for months, and knew what it foretold. He pleaded with the Senate to begin a Planetary Evacuation protocol, but due to the isolationist policies of the council, they refused. Centuries previously, Krypton had developed a rapid expansion of their sector, within the last century they had began losing contact with their colonies, each loss preceded by reports of a visitation from the Silver Stranger.

Against Jor-El’s council, Grand Marshal Zod prepared the Kryptonian Legions to repel the Stranger and his master Galactus. Fearing a harsh reprisal, the Senate declared Zod a traitor, as they were convinced that they could negotiate with the Silver Stranger and ensure the survival of their people. As the Silver Stranger maintained a position high above Krypton, he watched, waiting, while the Kryptonians fought amongst themselves in a wasted attempt to ensure the survival of their culture.

The coup raged for months, the Grand Marshal eventually succumbing to the Senate’s judgement. In a heated, and dead locked decision, Jor-El, representative of the House of El cast the deciding vote, Marshal Zod was stripped of rank and title, he and his co-conspirators were sentenced to be imprisoned between time and space in the Phantom Zone. In order to save his son, and the legacy of his planet, Jor-El infused Kal-El’s cells with a genetic codex of the entire Kryptonian race and sent him on a spaceship to Earth. The Stranger watched as the small vessel escaped the doomed planet’s atmosphere, and choose to do nothing earning the disfavor of his Master, but by his inaction allowing the legacy of Krypton to survive.

Kal-El's ship landed outside Smallville, Kansas, where it was found by Jonathan and Martha Kent who chose to raise the child as their own and named him Clark. During a seizure, induced by sensory overload, Clark knocks over a tractor and the Kents realized that Clark's Kryptonian physiology affords him superhuman abilities on Earth. This initially caused him confusion and ostracism, but he gradually learned to harness his powers to help others. On Clark’s 16th birthday, Jonathan revealed his otherworldly origins to him and advised him not to use his powers publicly, fearing that society will reject him. Clark finds the Kryptonian crystal tech that Jor-El sent with him and begins to learn his origins and have some sort of relationship with his birth parents.

Would probably work in the aforementioned Captain America - Johnathon Kent history to inspire Clark towards publicly revealing his presence as Super Man. As Auric picked up on the awesome idea of a Batman/D.D. mash up, with his permission, I'd probably make a mash up of Kingpin & Lex Luthor to work as a foil and a tie-in for both submissions.

Option Two:
The second option is much more rough in nature, but is ultimately the idea that Howard Stark, a brilliant anthropologist and archaeologist, became convinced of the existence of a group of beings whom he dubbed 'Lord of Order' and began a life long quest to prove the existence of this group of beings, and discover their origins. With the birth of his son, Anthony, he brought his son with him across the globe. From a young age Tony was surrounded by the wisdom and knowledge of the ancient world, learning as much from his father, as from those who practiced cabalistic, hermetic, and shamanistic traditions.

Eventually Howard discovered a tomb of sorts, located in a remote region of Egypt. Unfortunately the region was being used by a cell an organization known as 'The League of Shadow', the leader of the organization, Ra's al Ghul, feared that the Starks were close to discovering the location of the Lazarus Pit. Once captured, they separated father and son, placing the young Tony in one of the chambers that the team had discovered while they tortured Howard to determine the extent of his knowledge.

The young Stark was awakened in the cell by a whispering voice, encouraging him to travel deeper into the crypt. Tony, using his knowledge of ancient hieroglyphics and the guidance of the eerie voice, was able to open a passage and wander deeper into the crypt. It was there that he found it, a featureless golden helmet, the voice became insistent that he don the helmet, that it could provide him with the means to save his father. Hesitant, scared by the possibility of surrendering his body to an outside force, he was urged on by the voice. Helmet in hand, he decision was ultimately made as he heard gunshots from the chambers above him, donning the helmet his body was infused by the echoes of Nabu, the Lord of Order.

As he strode to the chambers above, his body was encased in ancient orichalcum armor armor covered in ancient runes which glowed with eldritch power. Too late to save his father, the being the world would come to know as Lord Fate brought justice and order to the men who would pray on innocence and suppress the quest for knowledge.

Though Ra's al Ghul escaped his judgement, he did manage to acquire ten rings which held bound the Lords of Chaos, these rings allowed al Ghul to battle the newly awakened Nabu to a stand still. Despite his defeat, Tony remains vigilant and watches for continued activity of the League and opposes them at every step.

I will freely admit this is entirely inspired by the artwork below; Lord Fate

I don't want to step on psionichamster's toes though, but I could see a place for both Harry Dresden & Tony Stark on a team, but the snark level would escalate quickly!

Opinions or comments on these two concepts would help me come up with a final decision ...

Thanks!

Sczarni

No stepping, indeed.

I like the idea of an arcane "Iron Man" guy...experimentation and powerful will is basically what Wizardry really entails.

For those unfamiliar with Harry Dresden, see here

Hey, psionichamster, I know when I do a build, I peruse other people's ideas to get an feel on where he should fall on a scale in my head.

I always found the Roll Call forum on the Roninarmy Boards helps. Here's a link to one of my favorite builders over there, and his take on Harry, whom I love reading by the way.

Thorpocalypse's Dresden Build

Hope it helps as a base line. :)

OK, here's Quicky (as I guess this has become a recruiting thread).

Quicky:

Roger Stone was a high school and college athlete who was one of those rare instances of also being quite smart. He managed to graduate from Star City Tech with an electrical engineering degree while still playing on the baseball team all four years. He was a good fielder and hitter, but his running speed was never great (OK, it was lousy), so he never caught even a whiff from the scouts. This rather ticked him off, since he had worked to be a great ball player from a young age, knowing it was a path to good money and a lifetime of doing something he loved. His parents were of modest means, so he had hoped to get to the good life that way.

However he had a good degree from a good school. He could still make a good living.

Looking around as the most appealing was a startup called Icarus Labs. They were working on a fusion power plant, with some radical new tech which was going to finally get it well past the break even point where fusion technology had lagged for so many years. It would put them in a place to compete with Stark Industries arc reactors. This meant big money. Getting in early meant Roger could get stock options and when the company made the product work and did a big IPO, he would be rich. Sure, not Tony Stark or Lex Luthor rich, but surely good enough to sit on a beach sipping drinks with umbrellas for the rest of his life.

Things were going swimmingly until a radical environmentalist group decided to attack the lab while Roger was working on the electronics of the magnetic bottle. They knocked him unconscious and set the system to overload. Which it did. The bottle ruptured, and vented plasma which liquified the promethium containment housing, which ended up on Roger.

A normal person would simply have been converted into trace elements in a metal slurry at this point. However Roger apparently had the metagene and his body reacted to the exposure to radiation and the hot metal to fuse it into his system. He ended up surviving.

In fact he more than survived. In his metal form he was amazingly fast, strong, and durable. Unlike the Flash who taps into the speed force, Roger moved fast on pure brute force. He moves fast because he is strong, and can survive the abrupt changes in momentum as well as heat resistance because his metal skin is nearly invulnerable. His reaction time, senses, and metabolism are all accelerated to an amazing degree.

So when Roger woke up and found himself encased in metal, but immensely powerful, he was rather bewildered. He was able to use his powers to scoop up the eco-terrorists and hand them over to the authorities, but Icarus Labs was kaput. So much for that way to make it.

He then decided to use his newfound abilities to try and make a living. Working as a body guard, security guard, hydraulic jack, courier, and a few other options he has managed to make pretty good money. Sometimes he even nabs criminals for free. Big threats to Star City he is generally willing to face simply because it's his home and the right thing to do.

He maintains a consulting business in his human form, doing part time engineering work. However being young and fairly inexperienced, he doesn't get a lot of clients. Though that just means he has more time to work as Quicky.

crunch:

Note, these are the stats in metal skin form. In human form, he loses all the powers and his physical stats are 3.

Ok, I think I've settle on Superman, if that works for you Reckless, I will not be mashing him up with any other hero, just doing a combined Universe re-write of his background as we are familiar with it.

That would start with Krypton being destroyed by Galactus, which would mean that Kal would be holding a grudge against the big guy.

Here's the crunch, I went with PL 13 so I could fit most of his iconic abilities in, I may tweak the build some as I realized I forgot Improved Initiative >.<

The World's Greatest: Bronze Age Style DC-Marvel Amalgam World Recruiting

System: Mutants and Masterminds 3e/DC Heroes RPG Green Ronin

This campaign is a Supers game set in a world that is a mash-up of DC & Marvel's universes similar to the Almalgam comics of the late 80's. Players are encouraged to mix and match personas, backstories, and powers to come up with characters that are a little bit of both worlds. While I reserve the right to mix the villains as I see fit, the players are given license to mash up any of the DC/Marvel characters. The only restriction on this is the Atlantean and Inhuman cultures, as I have plans.

The group selected will be the world's per-eminent superhero team, similar to the Justice League or Avengers. Character submissions should reflect those kinds of heroes. Furthermore, as this is a "Bronze Age" style game, heroes should be heroic with flaws. They don't all need to be boy scouts, but crack addicted stone cold killers need not apply.

Tips for increasing your chances of being selected::

A) Take the Amalgam style to heart; find a way to make your character fit into a mashed up Marvel/DC Universe. While this doesn't necessarily mean "mash up Wolverine and Timber Wolf", it helps to tie together elements of both worlds into your character's history. We've had a few great examples of this in the interest thread.

B) Don't make someone who is going to fight being a hero or part of a team every step of the way. If it looks like I'd have to do tons of extra work to keep you involved, I'll just move on by.

C) Don't make a hero who can do everything all by himself. No point in being a member of a team if you don't need teammates. Even Superman takes advantage of Batman's detective prowess, stealth, and ingenuity.

D) On the other hand, don't make a one trick pony. Make sure your hero is good at a couple of things, because it gets pretty boring if all you can do is punch things. So, not everything, but a few things.

E) In addition to a well-crafted Amalgam style backstory, if you can provide an example of the descriptive flavoring of your character's actions to help me get a feel for how she operates/how you will be playing her (even a short story for those with the energy and time), that would go a long way towards developing a group dynamic that will work for me as a GM.

Recruitment will close on May 12th, by which time character concepts and backstories must be submitted. Finalization of crunch and backstory must be completed by May 15th. Selections will be announced by May 16th.

Historical Highlights:
:
* Cosmic beings called the Celestial Guardians visit prehistoric Earth and experiment with the genetics of humanity, sowing the seeds for the future evolution of mankind.
* Aliens species known as the Ti'tans visit earth, vastly expanding the technological capabilities of humans in Egypt, experimenting with genetic potential creaates an offshoot of humanity eventually dubbed Inhumans. The Inhumans are worshiped as god-kings.
* The Ti'tans continue their experimentation in ancient Rome and Greece, creating a new race dubbed Deviants, who rebel against the Ti'tans, slaying them and ascending to the role of gods on Olympus.
* One of two surviving Ti'tan secrets a group of woman warriors to the Isle of Paradise, imbuing them with superior lifespans and strength, promoting the ideals of peace and prosperity through sisterhood.
* The second surviving Ti'tan relocates to the north, this time directly lording over a group of modified humans dubbed the New Gods, presenting himself as Odin, the All-father.
*Odin's plans to wage war against the Deviants is spoiled when the Celestial Guardians check back in on Earth, sending their agent of destruction, Ragnarok, an unstoppable force, to destroy the New Gods, Deviants, and Inhumans, feeling that Earth's evolutionary process has been unduly accelerated by the Ti'tans' interference. The Inhumans hide from Ragnarok's destructive wrath by submerging their population at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, using their advanced technology to remain cloaked and protected from the crushing depths. Many of the Deviants and New Gods are slain by Ragnarok. Only through sacrificing himself does Odin save a handful, hurtling himself and Ragnarok into the sun.
*With the remaining "gods" either hidden or destroyed, the first heroic age ends and superhuman beings fade into legend, shrouded in myth.
*The second heroic age comes during the second world war, when the Deviant Mars re-emerges, attempting to re-ignite his worship as the god of war. With Mars' aid, the Germans and Japanese develop superhuman champions. including the likes of Blitz, Rising Sun, and Baron Doom. In response to a submarine crashing into Alantis, the Inhuman leader Black Ray joins the fight on the side of the allied forces. Artemis, an amazonian warrior princess joins with him, the android Red Volcano, a speedster named Dynamo, and America's greatest hero the Super Soldier, to form the Justice Squad. They fight in many well-publicized adventures, gaining worldwide recognition as champions. The Germans attempt to steal and duplicate the Super Soldier's formula, resulting in the twisted menace known as Redmasque.
*Super Soldier's apparent death at the hands of Redmasque as the Axis forces are defeated splits the Justice Squad. Black Ray returns to Atlantis, swearing never again to become embroiled in surface politics. Red Volcano and Rising Sun are destroyed while clashing as the bomb drops in Hiroshima. Artemis, horrified by nuclear destruction, retreats from the "violent nature of men" and returns to Paradise Island. Dynamo briefly pairs with a high tech archer named Fletcher during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, but both later retire having grown too old for heroics.
*The third age of heroes begins in 1991, with the public revelation of mutantkind as the hero group Legion-X fights Doctor Magnus' attempt to take over the nuclear plant at nine mile point. Doctor Magnus is defeated, but the vast majority of humanity begins to experience a wave of fear over the existence of mutants and extraterrestrials.
* Baron Alexander "Lex" Doom III begins a campaign of anti-superhuman propaganda, rising to prominence within the United Nations, warning of alien involvement in the mutation of the human race. The third Baron Doom is every bit as charismatic as the first, and many smaller nations, whipped into fear of "Superhuman Death Squads" invading, seek to ban superhuman activities within their borders.
*In the US, the P.I.L.O.T. (Powered Individual Listing, Observation, and Tactics) bureau is developed to deal with its superhuman population. PILOT's protocols are soon adopted by the UN Security Council, and the UN creates S.H.I.P.(Super Human Interception Protocol) as an international rapid response team for powered incursions.
*Last year, an invasion by the alien species known as the Hive nearly conquered the Earth. Many of the world's greatest champions (and even some of its villains) rose to defend the Earth against the mind-controlling, body-converting aliens. Out of this crisis, your team was formed, sworn to protect the Earth from the stuff that's just too big for any one of you to handle.

HG,
I like what you did with Superman there, including the Galactus in the destruction of Krypton. (I also liked the Tony Stark as Doctor Fate thing.) His being inspired by Super Soldier could work nicely as well, "I'm not a soldier, just a man trying to do what's right."

Edit:will look over build after work, as well as other peoples' builds

Running low on time, but wanted to put this out there to the person talking about using Lex and Kingpin together:

I'm doing Lex with Doom and Baron Zemo. Kingpin I'm mixing with the Penguin to make the Emperor (Penguin) of Crime. Don't call him Penguin to his face!

Sczarni

Would Dresden fit into this worldscape?

Odin being involved provides a corollary entry through his Father Winter and the WI term Court Sidhe.

If not, no worries, I can come up with another concept.

Just a Kid:
Jare, or "the Houdini Kid" as he was better known as on the streets of New York, is a strange case of a modern day Robin Hood. Almost. He doesn't steal from the rich(unless they're around) or give to the poor(except other street kids and the occasional senior citizen), but he did help the city in other ways. Ways no one quite expects from a seemingly normal boy.

He was fighting a one-boy war against the dregs of the city's criminal world. Minor drug dealers and gangs mostly. He'd sneak in, take some cash or ruin the drugs, and then get out without being seen and call the police. He was never nearby when they got there.

He didn't want caught too, you see. Even if he was doing good things, he was still a thief no one had caught. Many had gotten close, but Jare knew the city better than some of the people who had lived here for decades. Sadly, that didn't stop him from getting nabbed by a Super. The old saying "the hand is quicker than the eye" is true when you don't even realize you've been caught until you're suddenly a dozen blocks away and in front of the police station...

He's not sure what happened that day. Maybe it was going that fast, or the fear of realizing he wasn't touching the sidewalk. Maybe it was just luck. In any case, before he could be cuffed and sent to a juvenile detention center, sparks of blue enveloped Jare... and he was gone. He woke up some time later with a funny kitten nearby. A kitten that explained to him that she was his friend and he was a mutant who's genes had unlocked the potential for magic.

The next day was when Hive attacked. They swarmed the city -his city!- and began to abduct people to take control off. It wasn't until he saw a kid he knew shot and killed because he tried to stop one of the Hive from taking a family. Time slowed down as the boy fell, a hole burned through his chest. It sped back up as all the lights within a five block radius went dark and lightning struck the same place twice. Drug dealers and gangs were bad enough, but a bunch of murdering aliens?!

It was the only time Jare had killed, and the memories -the smell of ozone and burning- are just another set of nightmares for him now.

Later on Jare found he couldn't stop thinking about how he'd done so much more to help the city than he ever had before, and when word got that he'd managed to take down a few of the small capture ships and he got an offer to join a team, well, he didn't feel like he could turn it down.

And that was only his second reason for joining....

If it hadn't been for the Hive, I don't think I could've written this backstory quite as well. :)

Just yelling "Parkour!" all the time.

I have an idea for an amalgam of Blue Beetle and Spiderman... The Blue Spider! Teen Peter Parker discovers among his elderly uncle's possessions a blue spider amulet. Upon touching it, it bonds with him, giving him the ability to generate a high tech suit of armor that gives his amazing spider powers. At first he uses his new powers to help himself, but after he fails to act to stop a fleeing thief and that thief ends up killing his uncle he vows to responsibly use his great powers...
The Blue Beetle scarab seems to synergize well with the symbiote suit for Spiderman for a mash up of storylines. I'll try and get a build together and posted up soon.

Assuming we both get selected Daemon, would you be adverse to Peter and Clark being a reporter & photographer duo for the Daily Bugle? It'd be an interesting tie in for the characters.

Also, as a related question, or cities like Gotham, Metropolis, and Central City still around, or are the rolled up into their real world versions, New York, Washington DC or such?

I'd be fine with that, seems like a fun natural pairing.

Sczarni

Ugh maths.

I forgot just how intensive a m&m character can be to generate.

Especially one with a bunch of powers like Harry.

I'd say Dresden would actually fit a John Constantine more than Phantom Stranger. Sense of humor, detective work and all.

Yeah that was my working base if Dresden was not world-appropriate.

Here's some backstory for Tarragon:

Lex Luthor was having an... interesting... day.
"Smithy! If I don't find out what event is going to cost me millions in repairs and cover-ups this very instant, unpleasant things shall happen"
"Of course, sir. Sorry for the delay, sir."
The young assistant hurried across the room, carefully stepping around bio-hazard signs and rubble. "Well, sir, it would appear that one of the "project Genesis" subjects escaped containment". Luthor frowned. Genesis was his attempt to genetically engineer a servant that could combat Superman. If one of those had matured to a point where it could escape, it could prove quite problematic.
"Tell me, Smithy. What subject was it? I need information".
"Well, sir, the project started out as one of the Elan that we purchased from an extraterrestrial slave-dealer. Identification number 8457109. The subject's innate telekinetic abilities were enhanced by kryptonite-based implants in the brain. There were also physical implants designed to increase reaction speed in order to counter that of superman, although this did lead to a loss of about two feet of height and all pigmentation. Finally, wings were implanted."
"A bird-man. How does a bloody eight foot tall dove escape the most high-tech containment facility in all of Metropolis!!"
"I'm sorry, sir. There were a series of... coincidences that allowed the subject to escape."
"Coincidences. What a nice way of saying that you and your men failed spectacularly. How did it manage to free itself from it's cell? All of the subjects were supposed to be sedated and contained at all times."
"Sir, um..." The assistant rubbed his hands nervously. "There were... unforeseen complications. The Krypto-cranial implants led to an unexpected increase in mental acuity and a resistance to the sedative."
"And how did it escape the containment field around the cell? It was my own design, based off of the DNA of a mutant with power nullification abilities. None of its psionic abilities could have possibly functioned within."
"We aren't sure, sir. Even now, the security tapes are being analyzed. The subject could have been concealing other abilities, or simply capitalized on a momentary system failure."
Luthor fumed. This was most definitely an issue.
"Sir? There is one last thing. After escaping, the subject presented itself to a group of metahumans, joining them. An association called...

EARTH'S MIGHTIEST *DUN DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUN* cue theme music.

Tarragon's M.O. in combat is to gather as much scrap metal and spare parts as possible while holding his enemy off with force-fields and thrown objects. He then uses a combination of superhuman technological aptitude and his quickness to jury-rig gadgets with his precision telekinesis as the situation demands (ex. flamethrower vs Mr. Freeze, anti-fear gas vs Scarecrow, Dubstep gun vs venom)

So the characters that we have presented so far are
Jare T.H. Kidd, Lightning-slinging ex-criminal
Negative Kid: Flying negative-energy blaster
Tenfold: Super-strong self duplicator
Extremiac: Nanite-infected android
Quicky: Speedster, "mandatory secondary powers" now included

Others/Unnamed: Superman, Dresden, Some Ice Guy, some others that I am probably forgetting.

Ex-criminal might not be entirely accurate... Maybe just vacationing from crime for an undetermined amount of time.

I realize I left his gear out for some reason. I'll add it when I get home.

Harry Dresden, Wizard for Hire. Items found, parties located, paranormal activity investigated. NO LOVE POTIONS.

The sign on the door, well, when he had a door, and a sign, and a business, said it pretty well. Being the only professional wizard in a city as large as Chicago was bound to attact attention. Unfortuntately, all too often that attention did not come attached to large paychecks or lifetime free pizza deliveries. Oh well.

Things have changed recently for Harry Dresden. The White Council has gone through significant upheaval, with betrayal and treason poisoning its inner sanctum. His apprentice and friend took on the Mantle of the Winter Lady, in a surprising turn of events. The Red Court remains destroyed, creating a vacuum of power which attracted all manner of evil and dangerous creatures. Oh yeah, and he broke his back, died, came back, got turned out by the Winter Queen Mab herself as her little busybody Knight, met and faught Father Christmas, and rode in the Wild Hunt as both prey and master.

It's been a busy couple of years.

Now, though, after the Hive and other recent events, her Royal Frostiness herself deemed it necessary for one Harry Dresden to join up with some of Earth's mightiest defenders. Seeing what the Gatekeeper and Blackstaff put up with, how could he say no? Not to mention the whole "do as I say or I make your hurt" clause in their working relationship.

So off he goes, staff in hand and monstrous hand-cannon that Murphy gave him in his pocket. No Bob, no trinkets and gadgets and no time to fabricate up new ones, it was time to show just how big of a big damn hero Harry Dresden is.

I am such a huge fan of this series! This sounds like so much fun.

I think I'm going with... Casey Ramsey, master of martial arts.

Rough background:

Adopted child of two lawyers, when his gifts manifested Casey was abducted by his birth parents, who served the immortal Demon's Hand in his Guild of Assassins. Through drugs and mystical rituals, they slew his former self and restored him to life with his powers increased and voice and hearing stolen. Under their cruel tutelage, he learned to read the motion of bodies as easily as words on a page and soon became just the peerless martial artist they had bred him to be.

Everything went to plan until Casey, recrhistened Kayvan, reached his first victim. His mind lit up with dozens of ways to murder the businessman, but also with all of his human infirmities. In his footsteps, Kayvan saw the cares of a man unburdened by the hard training of the Guild. He had a son, a wife. Long-ignored memory stirred in Kayvan and he refused to complete his mission.

The Guild accepted no excuses and tolerated no failure. Kayvan made himself into a traitor and so must die. But when the Guild's justice came to him, he found it easy to defend himself. Armed by his training, Kayvan fled. Free from them, Kayvan slowly regained his speech and hearing. Many times he battled the Guild, always winning but fleeing thereafter.

It might have gone on like that forever. Casey, as he had come to think of himself again, feared for his family too much to bring the Guild to their doorstep. The Hive invasion changed all of that. Seeing a danger far greater than the Guild, Casey identified officers and key figures in the Hive forces and put his gifts to use. He could not end the war, but he made enough of a nuisance of himself to bring the wrath of the Hive down on his head. With it came the notice of the heroes then banding together to put an end to the threat and he joined their number.

Amalgam sources:

Casey is about half Doug Ramsey and half Cassandra Cain With maybe a little Karate Kid thrown in. But he's an adult. He was kidnapped and trained by a mix of the Hand and the League of Assassins. Basic high-end martial artist, possibly with a few vague shadow ninja style powers.

Hmm, should probably revise my background since I didn't read the history stuff first. Will have to think about it.

Seems like a Colossus-Flash mix. Maybe that could be a jumping off point?

Edit: Note that in redesigning/merging/whatever characters, it is entirely unnecessary for any of their powers/personalities to be exactly the same as the comics.

Perhaps having a character with three variable pools is not the way to do this. Extremiac can handle most roles by spending actions to change his pools. Not to mention that playing a level 12 intelligence is daunting for a level *mumble mumble* intelligence player.

*Rip, crumple, toss*

Let's try again...

Spoiler:
It was bleak, dark and smelled of brimstone. He was taken for a loop because this was not where he was supposed to be. Scott had been grabbed from behind and he needed to get back... But no matter how many time hes tried to return he still ended up in this place. And yet it felt familiar. It wasn't quite his father's realm, but close to it. But it seemed unstable, with the ground and air shaking violently every few minutes. From miles away, the sounds of a huge battle rang out.

Accepting this was hard when his friends needed him, but when things didn't change he began to focus on finding a way out. So he began to explore. When he found the grey girl, she focused black energy on her hands. "I'm not here to hard you, fraulein. I'm just wondering where I am."

She seemed to accept this, and after looking him over carefully, she nodded. "This is Azarath, or at least partially. I suspect two universe are merging. My father Trigon fights to be master of the combined realm. I want nothing to do with him, but I'm trapped here. He's locked it in stasis at the moment of merging." She didn't seem put off by his appearance, and he accepted her four glowing red eyes.

He smiled sadly, "I suspect it is my father, Azazel, that he fights." He shrugs with that particular form of embarrassment one has when one's relatives are evil immortal megalomaniacs. Raven nods in recognition. "Neither of us wants to be part of the battle, so perhaps we can help each other evade the fighting. Oh, I am Kurt Wagner, also known as Nightcrawler, at your service." "Raven." "That was my mother's name."

The battle took decades, and the two exiles spent as much time avoiding it as possible. Over time they grew close, and had a child. (name to come) grew to adulthood under the cloud of a war in hell. And the threat of non-existence. None of them knew what would happen when the stasis collapsed and the universes merged. Their parents would have their memories altered to fit the new reality, but what would happen to a child born between seconds?

I'm still working on the crunch, but should have it available tonight.

I'd like to throw my hat in, perhaps. Thinking "Blackbird" (Black Canary/Mockingbird) or "Liberty" (Nazi fighting paragon a la Capt America and Golden Age Wonder Woman). Or I might just go for an energy controller of a type not yet proposed.

You are still using modified point buy, yes? Just wondering as I might use Hero Lab to build.

Arenbecl, just curious, why are you naming your character after a culinary herb? :)

*sigh* noticed I forgot Sidekick 7 for the Advantages... and to put his gear up.

Darn... I was hoping nobody would notice. Tarragon is actually another name for a dragon, although one rarely used. I thought it sounded cool, and by the time that I bothered to look it up... I had already posted and it was to late X). If you have any alternate names, feel free to suggest them, although I am fine sticking with Tarragon.

As much as I would love to play in this, I think I am going to withdraw...the math involved in char gen is just too intensive to wrap my brain around right now.

I had a thought earlier today that the catalyst of the third age might have been pieces of Krypton crashing into the Earth, leading to an increase in mutations and a jumpstart of the genetic meddling done by the Celestial Guardians. The "meteor crash" would have taken place in the late 80's.

Loving these character ideas so far, keep them coming!

Yes, the modified point buy rules are still in place. The version of Wonder Woman from WW II in this universe called herself Artemis, and was conceived as a Wonder Woman/Hawkeye mashup. Although she returned to Paradise Island, she, or her daughter/sister/whoever, could easily return now, being Amazons and all. She's mentioned in the history notes, but not defined, and up for grabs if you want to run with her or an heirloom.

In any case, yes, toss your hat in. Love to see what you come up with.
