History:

Y0 - The gods Zarith(Sky), Grom(Earth), and Sheliak(Sea) created the land now known as Platar.

Y174 - Illios tricked the sun and stole the fire of life from him. She brought it to Platar and created humans.

Y352 - The Great Quench: Sheliak rose the seas in a mysterious anger in an attempt to smother the lands of Grom. The water level rose greatly as a result of this godly war, and affected northern Platar the most, creating the island system it has today. The effects of the Great Quench only recede every May, restoring Platar to its original form.

Y942 - The Skin War: The pink skinned folk who mostly inhabited northern Platar fought against the green skinned folk of southern Platar in a continent encompassing war. The pink skins ultimately won, with the help of the Archmage Dromulus of northern Platar, which is why the green skins serve mostly as slaves in all the lands of Platar.

Y1194 - A mysterious Necromancer, Xenos, appeared in the Plains of Vashar and began to conquer northward with the help of his undead hordes.

Y1199 - Archmage Dromulus, growing old despite his magic and fearful of Xenos, built the Labyrinth of Dromulus, cutting off northern Platar from the undead threat, while abandoning the inhabitants of southern Platar.

Y1201 - The Alliance of Drotsk: Initiated by the Brutus of the Mountain Dwarves, the rest of southern Platar not yet controlled by Xenos allied together in an attempt to hold off Xenos.

Y1205 - Stand at Vashar: The Alliance of Drotsk pushed Xenos back all the way to the edge of Vashar. There, the Necromancer unleashed the greatest of his powers, killing thousands of soldiers, but eventually Brutus was able to reach Xenos and strike him down with his axe. Henceforth, Brutus became known as Brutus the slayer.

Y1205 - Archmage Dromulus mysteriously disappeared from northern Platar. Individual nobles band together to form the oligarchy named after its peninsula L’roth.

Y1205-1237 - Reign of Brutus: Brutus began to rebuild southern Platar under the Alliance of Drotsk, but gradually grew more dictatorial with the help of his popularity. Tensions between Drotsk and L’roth grew. Orators from Drotsk spoke of how the people of Drotsk were abandoned by their northern comrades and pushed for retaliation.

Y1237 - Ascension of Horatio: Brutus’s son Horatio ascends the throne of Drotsk after the natural death of Brutus.

Y1237-1242: Raised during the time of tension between Drotsk and L’roth, Horatio instituted increasingly aggressive diplomatic policy against L’roth. The oligarchy of L’roth as well as the Despot Horatio began to build their navies, and armies greater than ever seen before, both sides preparing for war.

May 11, Y1243: The army of Drotsk marches to Snake Isle beginning a new war.

May 23, Y1243: The Starstone Trading Company discovers Altheria.

June, Y1243: Present day.

Culture:

The Cult of Sheliak - Sheliak, as the god of oceanic destruction, is feared throughout most of Platar for the plots its worshipper’s bring. The cult of Sheliak is most common in the savage Isle’s and on Obelon, but are also thinly spread out in the rest of Platar. In the Savage Isle’s, which are barely controlled by L’roth, Sheliak is revered more than hated. As a general rule, the more a culture is subject to the tides, the more likely it is for them to worship Sheliak. Obelon is under more direct control from L’roth, but the cult of Sheliak still thrives there, while far less radical in it’s teachings. Worshippers of Sheliak tend to dislike worshippers of Grom, and have neutral relationships to most other people.

The Church of Grom - Grom is a widely accepted god throughout all of mainland Platar. His worship is less popular near the coasts, islands, and other watery regions that are affected by the tides, but is still strong in the Velm mountains. He is the most popular of the gods of Platar. The church of Grom preaches of order and community. It has a dominant following in most of Drotsk but only a significant following in L’roth. The country of Drotsk formally endorses Grom as their god, and persecutes most Sheliak worshippers in Drotsk. L’roth has no official persecution, but the cult of Sheliak is still openly and privately discriminated against by most Grom worshippers.

The Nomads of Zarith- The Nomads of Zarith are neither hated nor loved, but respected throughout Platar. They wander the lands of Platar seeking wisdom from those who possess it and giving wisdom to those who don’t. Along their travels, they gain new members who are attracted to their style of life, which causes their group to be the most diverse in race, culture, and economic background of all the religions of Platar. They are neither good nor ill willed, and they all have different motives for being nomads, from seeking to help those in need to seeking adventure. Most cultures accept them, for they perform the funeral rites that send off the dead to the afterlife, and can provide good counsel to those who truly need it. Once a year, these nomads gather together on the. At this gathering, they crown their aravi, or their counsel of elders. Anyone is welcome, but only a select few participate in their rituals, and as such the rituals remain a mystery.

The Following of Illios: By far the least organized group of worshippers throughout Platar, most everyone in Platar views Illios as the fun loving, almost childlike god, even the cult of Sheliak. Those who worship Illios are defined by their love of games, parties, and pranks. They are often skilled at creating beautiful fiery displays and able to mend most injuries. They are also fond of animals, and fierce defenders of freedom, which can put them at odds with slavers. They will often speak out in peaceful to violent fashion in order to free Greenskins from captivity.

The Society of Broken Chains: The secret society that opposes all slavers in Platar. Mostly Illios followers, but many Nomads and normal people also participate in this society.

The Starstone Trading Company: Founded by the great Maynard Garreden II and currently owned by Alrond Garreden, this trade organization sided with L’roth since the war began but was originally spread across both nations. Henceforth, the company has split in half, with many of its Drotsk employees abandoning the company which, severely weakened its influence and causing Alrond to seek a new enterprise to regain his lost power.
