I'm down 12, but still have 26 to go. If we're about to spring another encounter that potion would be better spent unused. If it's unused by the time we make camp, I'll happily take it.
Simon got some solid healing in from Vuzi, not sure if he's full healed or not
Simon Blue-Eye |
Not fully healed, but misses only single-digit HP, so I would not take one right now.
Guess Marco could use one?
First marching order could work best in my eyes.
Vuzi Ognok |
In the event the goats come back alive and well (as in this situation), should we pick a standard direction to go in? i.e. always go right first?
Simon Blue-Eye |
Always right is a solid tactic to not get lost in a *normal* maze.
This certainly is not a normal one, but may be helpful anyway.
I'm totally for it.
DW Duck |
If it's all the same to everyone else, I generally prefer solving mazes by going to the left, but I do on a standard direction.
I'm not sure how much it may matter here seeing as walls change/teleport traps, but it's as good a plan as any.
We should also consider do we explore 1 tunnel to completion, or back off mid way to go view another.
DW Duck |
sounds like it's 2 to 1 to the right. I'm game
Vuzi Ognok |
I'm fine with left, and generally go that direction first if given a choice. People don't expect it. :) Most people would choose right which is why I mentioned it in the thread.
They generally also never look up.
DW Duck |
Right? Why do they never look up!? People question how someone as intelligent as Khan got tricked so easily tricked from a 3 dimensional fight, but it's just not something people consider.
Maglin |
Hey all, I've been having internet issues but they're hopefully solved by now. I'm standing in the apple store as I write this, and won't know for sure if what they did worked until I get home.
Also I always look up when entering a new room. I also always look under the bed and in closets.
Simon Blue-Eye |
Can I take 10 on that test?
Also as a sidenote, I just discovered that the UC's trapfinding ability let's me add 1/2 my level (probably 1 since my UC-Rogue level is 2?) to any disable divice and perception tests to disable/find traps.
With that and my masterwork tools, I will (just) succeed if I could take ten.
:-)
Maglin |
Are negative consequences for failure in general enough to prevent taking ten? This seems like something where we should expect table variation.
I think it might depend, and for example in this circumstance because he's hurt and stressed probably can't take ten. But for the most part I feel the answer is that negative consequences don't prevent taking ten. Most humans can swim short distances without a real chance of drowning, for example.
GM Choon |
The rules say you can take ten "When a character or creature is not in immediate danger or distracted". Being caught in a poisoned spikey trap is probably pretty distracting. :)
Edit: Being in danger is how I generally think of it, even though it's not the technical terms. Sorry.
Vuzi Ognok |
It's ok. Life does get in the way, and should come first. I hope things are alright.
Maglin |
Well now I feel foolish for not just searching right away. I'd assumed something would try to kill us.
I wonder if it's normal to wait until the night before leaving to pack for college...hehe....
Vuzi Ognok |
I wonder if it's normal to wait until the night before leaving to pack for college...hehe....
I think it might be. First year?
Maglin |
Yup. Technically not the night before yet though so uh...guess I don't need to pack. Or even do laundry so that I can pack.
Simon Blue-Eye |
Haha,
@Maglin: *Drums, Drums from the deep*
"Foolish Tuck! Throw yourself the next time, so we're free from your foolishness!"
May be not the exact citation, but I don't know the English version as well as the German one... ;-)
Maglin |
I don't think the word free was used.
"`What's that? ' cried Gandalf. He was relieved when Pippin confessed what
he had done; but he was angry, and Pippin could see his eye glinting. 'Fool of
a Took! ' he growled. 'This is a serious journey, not a hobbit walking-party.
Throw yourself in next time, and then you will be no further nuisance. Now be
quiet! '"
Maglin was partially inspired by the CS Lewis quote that hobbits are only interesting when in un hobbit like situations, figured I had to do some of the more memorable things.
Simon Blue-Eye |
About to go to bed so ic post will have to wait.
If you want to continue, Simon could take 10 and shut it close I guess. Otherwise I can even auto-succeed at the test, with guidance and two people providing aid-another.
Or maybe he can jump over auto-succeed? Must look up the rules for jumping for that one.
Simon Blue-Eye |
Studying day again.
@Direction: Didn't we agree on left-hand rule, so always left side first?
DW Duck |
Yeah, seems like that's how the gm is following. Still good to check both ways though with goats and such just in case
Marco Theseus Cain |
You do realize we have a limited supply of goats yes?
(On a separate note, I never expected to say that sentence in RP)
DW Duck |
Yeah. My original plan was to release them all and we'd occasionally come across a dead one, which would serve as a quick warning to gear up, but they keep coming back so I'm going to keep it up
Marco Theseus Cain |
heheheh
Vuzi Ognok |
I cannot believe our advanced scouts are goats and neon colored chickens. It's awesome.

DW Duck |
I'm going to have to remember to bring them to all my dungeon adventures lol.
Vuzi Ognok |
I'm sorry to see her go. I hope things get better for her soon.

Ouch, that's rough. They did a thoroughly decent thing and sent a message ahead instead of just dropping and leaving us to wonder, so that's like a good consolation prize.
In other news, there's an eclipse today and I get 95% coverage, which is pretty sweet.
Vuzi Ognok |
That's awesome. I'm not sure what coverage we get, but I'm at work so I doubt I'll be outside to check it out.
Marco Theseus Cain |
I'm in chattanooga, so I have a .99 magnitude (99%) eclipse
my family is going to drive a bit over till they can get to 1.00 magnitude eclipse, but I have work,
Vuzi Ognok |
There's a total eclipse over the United States today. I was actually in the 98% range.
Maglin |
It was cloudy and impossible to see anything except for one short glimpse. Apparently looking directly at the sun is like, bad for your eyes or something?
Maglin |
Gosh darn it, now I'm jealous. I actually wouldn't've noticed if it weren't for the crowds of people staring up at the sky, it was barely even darker. Well, actually our eyes perceive light logarithmically, so it was probably substantially darker but uh, I just couldn't tell.
Maglin |
I wonder if it would've been different without clouds. It looked like a black orb wreathed in light to me, and when I tried the glasses I couldn't see anything at all.
Vuzi Ognok |
That's what it looked like on the telescope I was watching. Black orb wreathed in white light.
