Late afternoon light pours in through the windows of the meeting room in Galt’s Woodsedge Lodge, and the smell of freshly baked pastries wafts in from the kitchen. Venture-Captain Eliza Petulengro is seated at the head of a polished mahogany table when you enter the room. Her back is to you as she stares at the flames of the warm fireplace. She clears her throat and speaks in a stern tone as she turns to greet you, “I’m glad to see that all of y-" Looking down at your impressive height, her mouth seems frozen as her eyes sweep your group from left to right, "......"

"...have made it here safely. My name is Eliza Petulengro. And what are the names of the agents who answered my call today?” Eliza listens to your introductions, staring with unnerving intensity at each as you speak.

"Is that the smell of ginger? Do I smell pmpkin? *Ribbit* Sorry, Venture-Captain Petulengro, I digress. I am Guk." The enthusiastic voice of an anthropomorphic toad lets out. The creature is a rather uncommon sight. It's barely as big as a gnome, with large round eyes blinking as they stare at the many Pathfinders attending Dreng's rather informal meeting. Its skin is blue, as those of the poisonous frogs from Mwangi. What is even stranger are the grippli's thick and furry eyebrows.

Still learning the social norms of the Golarian society, a mottled green and brown frogman completely ignores the Venture-Captain and goes straight for the kitchen. After a couple screams and broken plates, he comes back with a pair of fresh pastries. "Sorry, I was quite hungry and couldn't resist that smell any longer. The name's Sammakko Treeskipper." However instead of taking a seat around the fire, Sammakko climbs several feet up the wall and sits atop an armoire where he eats his snack.

Still coming up with a backstory and personality for him, but the plan is that he really just doesn't know how to act in society yet, hence the 7 charisma.

"Hullo Mish Elizha. MMmmmff... theeshe are yummy," he says around a mouthful of bearclaw. He gulps down the mouthful and continues. "Gribbl at your service... I wish I could say I was a master of the arcane arts... but I'm something more like a, well, an apprentice... I'm still practicing a lot. But I AM getting better at it!"

He goes to take another big bite of bearclaw, and eying the pastry with one bug eye focused on it, he then finishes it off in one huge bite and gulp.

"So what's the mission?"

"Have you got some kaf to wash this down? hmmm?"

Q'lack hops in, parking his large bird outside.

"World is much bigger from above!" he notes.

"What you want Q'Lack for? Q'lack good for fishing up all sorts of things from past."

From his smell, it would appear that Q'lack is also good at fishing up..fish.

After weighing your introductions, she nods towards a pot of fresh brew hanging over the fire, “As expected. Excellent.”

Moments later, a wiry man wearing a tailored suit strides into the room. A white porcelain mask covers his face, and he wears a thin red ribbon around his neck. In his gloved hands, he carries a tray of sweet and savory pies, which he sets in the center of the table before quietly slipping away; although giving a pausing glance at your army.

The venture-captain serves herself a generous slice of pie. “Mind that you don’t get food on the papers,” she says. “They record the information that your fellow agents have been gathering about the ebb and flow of Galtan society. To perform such work properly is, unfortunately, far less interesting than it sounds."

"I have a more engaging opportunity in mind for you. You’ll be traveling about a hundred miles up the Sellen River to the village of Rosehaven. Rosehaven is the home of Armeline, a savvy information gatherer who was once a reliable contact for the Pathfinder Society. Twelve years ago, she was accused of espionage against the revolution in connection with some of her past work with the Society. She sent a cry for help the Grand Lodge. It was an exceedingly difficult situation, considering only a few months earlier revolutionaries stormed this very lodge and killed my predecessor and her servants."

"Following that tragedy, the Decemvirate suspended all operations in Galt. It was a sensible decision—after all, the Decemvirate is not in the business of sending agents on suicide missions — but it seemed a death sentence for Armeline. Whether through luck, guile, or both, Armeline survived. I would like to extend a formal apology to her, and hopefully convince her to consider working with the Society in the future."

"We have before us the perfect opportunity. Rosehaven’s upcoming festival culminates in a ceremony of ritual forgiveness, which may encourage her to move past the Society’s unfortunate necessity so many years ago. I’ve arranged for a riverboat to pick you up at dawn. You’ll arrive in Rosehaven in the morning of the first day of the festival." Eliza frowns, “One more thing. I have a hunch, and I learned to trust my hunches years ago. I doubt this mission will be as simple as it seems. Stay alert. If you have no questions, then you are dismissed.”

Pre-mission gear purchase available at the Woodsedge.

Gribbl pours himself a cup of kaf and adds milk and sugar, sipping it slowly as he listens to Eliza. He helps himself to a sweet tart to enjoy with the kaf and nibbles it as he absorbs the details of the mission.

"Mind if I ask... what, if anything does your hunch actually tell you? And are we likely to run into opposition other than Miss Armeline's own reticence at accepting the apology and the proposition to work together again?"

When the time is right for shopping, Gribbl will take advantage of the opportunity and pick up a couple of alchemist fires and a spring loaded wrist sheath for his wand.

At the thought of a human eating his legs, Sammakko climbs up a bit higher, just to feel safe. "So what is this Armeline like? Can you tell us more about her? And what's this festival of forgiveness like? never heard of it."

"This is her letter she sent us several seasons ago. It bears her codename."

"The situation is beyond bribes of tea cakes or truffles. The best gift you can offer her is our apology and efforts to amend."

“Galt has long been home to brilliant artists and philosophers, whose independent spirits produce a hotbed for new ideas. However, the recent history of Galt is a story of blood and turmoil. Ever since House Thrune came to power in Cheliax, Galt has been trapped in a churning cycle of revolution. Quite a few past governments have fallen, and their leaders and supporters have met the guillotine’s blade. Each new government promises to rectify the ills of the last and bring peace and prosperity.” Eliza flashes a knowingly wry smile. “As a citizen of Galt,” she announces with a veneer of patriotism, “I say that our current government will surely succeed at its goals.”

DC 15 Sense Motive:
Eliza doesn’t seem to believe the current regime is any better than the last dozen, but she’s watching her words to avoid being considered an enemy of the state.

"I understand the locals are simple hospitable people. Rosehaven sees its share of travelers being on the river. Its isolation shields it from the cycle of revolution, for the most part. Its people make their living primarily through farming and fishing.”

"At this moment, Armeline is probably a very resentful contact who feels disillusioned by our absence."

"The only thing I truly know of the festival is that late arrivals will be seen as an intrusion, early arrivals shows intent of forgiveness. I suggest you make haste - you barely have time as it is." She reaches for another piece of pastry only to look over only to see an empty tray with crumbs trailing to each of you. "-and I'm out of pies."

After ten temperate days rowing up the Sellen River, a village comes into sight mid-noon. Rosehaven’s only dock lies about half a mile to the west of the village center. It adjoins both the village’s fishery — a large building where fishermen sort, clean, prepare, and preserve their catches — and a small market catering to passing boats. The market sells fish, seasonal crops, herbs, and spices. The pungent aromas waft on the crisp autumnal winds, accompanied by cheery shouts of low prices from their proprietors. A chaotic panoply of shops spills from the shore, splashing into a web of jetties on the river’s surface.

The rowers bring you to one of the few patches of dock not otherwise occupied by tradesmen. Their rowboss, Hugo, informs you, “Welcome to Rosehaven, a calm cove amidst the storm of revolution.” He smiles proudly at his own turn of phrase, more words than you had heard from him in the entire journey. “We've made it just in time. It looks like they are starting to pack up for the Mercylight. Say hello for me to Madame Ivy. You will see her, I think, for she is owning the Silver Flute.”

At just under 2 feet tall, Gribbl doesn't exactly make for an imposing figure, though his many blue tattoos and his wildly embellished headpiece do make him stand out from the crowd a bit... He rocks back and forth from one foot to the other as he waits impatiently for the others to disembark, tapping his short staff on the dock while he shifts in place.

"Come come! I have developed a taste for halfling stuffed mushrooms... I hope they have some. Not that they're stuffed WITH halflings... I just understand the dish was invented by a halfling."

He too hops ashore, and sends his mighty roc into the air to stretch her wings.

Rosehaven is quickly reached on the main path from the docks. The country side smells sweet of autumn, and the colors of fall blanket the landscape. Around the last bend, the first building that can be recognized is a temple to Shelyn. Villagers criss cross paths, carrying and arranging items in preparation for the festival. As your group comes into view of the masses and you begin to get noticed altogether, an awkward moment of silence comes over and all eyes are upon four gripplis flanked by a roc.

Not remembering the words from his childhood at all, Sam just tries to dance to the tune. His agility pays off and he actually doesn't look terrible, and doesn't even knock over any of the on lookers with his oversized webbed feet.

Soon the entire bar is singing along as the gripplis troupe make a great showing. Ivy bellows, "Four drinks on the house! Pitax, the renowned bard left that flute here, he would be proud!"

Taking Qlack and Sam's rolls as Aid, Ivy's attitude is Helpful

"Thank you for the drink m'lady, but do you have any food? Grasshoppers would be great right about now. They didn't have any proper food on the boat ride up the river. Oh, and do you know anyone named Armeline?" Sam tries not to be too awkward, but being a 2 foot frog grippli standing on a bar, its hard not to.

"Maybe some fish? I do love a good fish. " adds in Q'lack.

He then quietly adds "We were hoping to meet up with some of your locals. To discuss fishing spots."

"You're in luck my friend! Candy dipped grasshopper is the local favorite this time of the year."

Over some treats and grilled fish, Ivy leans casually over your plate, "Armeline? Yes, her house is just across the street, although she's probably out in that crowd out there somewhere. She always wears a feathered hat. The Mercylight is about to start." The common room begins to slowly thin out, patrons heading outside. She wipes her hands and follows.

"What is the <croak> Mercylight?" asks Q'lack, before adding "Does Armeline know good fishing spots? I'll keep an <croak>eye out for her hat!"

"You'd have to ask her about the fish. Mercylight is our town's tradition of forgiving each other that began about thirty years ago. When I was a girl, this village was on the verge of chaos and bloodshed between neighbors. A local folk hero named Bertinard came to our rescue with the wisdom of Shelyn, whereupon he lit his lantern, and with the light of truth and goodness dispelled the wickedness from our hearts and saved our village. So to commemorate, in three days the festival will close with forgiving aggressions and wrongdoings to anyone you might have quarrel with. -Oh, there she is." Ivy points out Armeline through the crowd.
