Ha!
Actually, we have chosen Abigail as her name.
Sorry I've been a bit slow on the game, most of my little computer time has been taken sending and replying to emails over the past couple of days ... will try to get to the game soon or later tonight.
No worries... enjoy the new arrival, and take care of your wife/partner! Welcome to the world Abigail!

Names, how bloody hard is that eh?
Me and the wife have been back and forth over names so many times. Girls names we have coming out of our ears, but boys names (and the scan said it was a boy) are causing us grief.
It does not help that the wife is a teacher in an inner city school and so many of the boys names bring back memories of naughty boys.
'Fletcher' is winning at the moment as a name.
Ragadolf |
Wait!
'Fletcher' is winning as the boys name?
Your wife must have had a LOT of naughty boys in her classes! {And my wife is also a teacher, I sympathize!) :D
But is it just me? Or does that name bring to mind the Chevy Chase movie?
(AND it could be just me! My mind works in weird and mysterious ways.) ;P
BOth my wives (X & current, I'm NOT a polygamist! :P ) are big on the 'biblical + family' naming method. Still a lot to choose from, but helps to narrow the field a little.
Gratz again Moth! Give 'Abby' a welcome kiss for me! ;D

Heheh, that's the first thing I thought of ... however we might be showing our age there. ;-)

She has no shortage of kisses that's for sure.

Shhhhh... I have managed to hide that film from the wife who is just young enough to not remember it and our parents are olde enough to have missed it.
I want a rare name, as when I grew up and started drinking and going out, my circle of close friends included 2 other people called Andrew, so I went though several years know as Andy H. I am pretty sure Fletcher is not going to have that problem, where as Olivers, Alfies and Jacks are going to be very, very common judging by the amount of babies that come into the shop with those names.
I always liked Jacob, but those bloody sparkly vampires have ruined that name now.

Apologies for my unannounced absence over the past week or so; turns out that looking after a new baby (who’s been sick as well) combined with the general busyness that accompanies the lead up to Christmas doesn’t leave much time for recreational computer use. Who knew?
I’ll try to catch up on things tonight and tomorrow, although I’ll probably not be around much again on the 25th and 26th. Oh, and happy Christmas etc to everyone.
Ragadolf |
Just FYI-
My son is sick (Caught a cold, first of the school year, JUST in time for Christmas!) ;P And I think I'm getting it too. (Double ;P)
Also busy with the usual holiday nonsense, making candy, pies, cookies, etc. And have travel planned (IF I don't get sick!) So, I may drop off the radar at any time. Should be back by Jan 3 at the latest.
My prayers to all of those with expectant wives and sick kids,
and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all! :)
Mothman |
Got the latest sparkly vampire film this morning and Abigail is a beautiful name.
Merry Christmas
Happy New Year
Cheers
P.S. if you are reading this on Christmas Day then stop enjoying yourself and get back to your relatives, especially Mothman and Ash.
Heheh, Christmas was too busy for internet time!
Ragadolf |
Heh. How do you think I feel?!? ;P
All are doing well, thanks. The baby had to be early due to (minor) complications, so they scheduled the zipper installment. As far as I know, (they are in Oklahoma, I am in Louisiana, so all information is via cellphone) all are fine and healthy.
Yeah, I told my 6-1/2' son (Vatt knows I'm not quite 5'5") that payback would be mine! :D
I fully intend to spoil the little boy rotten each visit and then hand him back! Such is the designated role of the grand-pa! :)
Mothman |
How is everyone going? I know things have been a bit slow over the past two months or so, what with my new baby and general busy season for everyone over Christmas and the new year.
Now that we are at the start of February I’m hoping to pick up the pace a bit and move on to the next chapter. Is everyone generally around and enthusiastic?
Ragadolf |
I'm here. I'm enthusiastic.
(Though I've been called many other things!)
I'd say I'm entering the 'busy' season, but it never really slows down for me. There is only 'busy every night' and 'busy every OTHER night'.
Guess which one THIS week is?!? ;P
Seriously, I'm busy this week, I'll be around but posting time will be severely curtailed. Next week is pretty much 'normal'. (Meaning I can and will MAKE time to be on 'teh interwebs'!) ;)
Looking forward to the next chapter!
PS-Speaking of,... How IS the new baby?!?
Mothman |
Going well ... now if only we could get her to sleep at night! For the past two to three weeks she has not slept between the hours of 6pm and somewhere between 11.30pm to 1am (unless she is being actively held and rocked and/or fed).
I don’t think the heat here has been helping over the past few days (this week is predicted to be the hottest ever on record in Sydney), really hot during the day and its hit and miss whether we get a cool change in the evening. No air conditioning at home, so cooling the house down means opening windows on both sides of the house for cross ventilation ... but given that we live directly under an airplane flight path (and close enough to the airport that planes are low and loud), the noise doesn’t help with her sleeping either! At least until the last plane passes just before midnight.
Otherwise she seems happy and healthy. Has been putting on weight at a good rate, feeding well, is up to date with vaccinations and health checks ... and just this last week or so has begun genuinely smiling and “talking” (that is, looking directly at you and making cute noises that aren’t a prelude to crying) ... of course, I think she only does that to distract you when you are trying to get her to sleep.
Ragadolf |

Lol! Yeah, the kids are smarter than they seem, I know that from experience!
Glad to hear all are doing well.
Sorry to hear no central AC. (You do have window unit or something, right?)
EDIT- just re-read your post. NO Ac!?!? That stinks. I don't know squat about Sydney, but Here in Louisiana that's just downright hazardous!
In contrast, my mother just called to let me know that Oklahoma is under a blizzard watch tomorrow. (Yes, they get snow semi-regularly, NOT blizzards though!)
Seems like it always has to be one extreme or the other, doesn't it? You'd think they'd find a happy medium somewhere! ;P
Best of luck! Enjoy the cute noises! (That aren't a prelude to crying!) ;)

People who live in Sydney think that this city has the perfect climate – it 'hardly ever' gets too hot, it 'hardly ever' gets too cold. In the middle of summer, when the temperature is 40 degrees C, we will say 'nice beach weather!' or 'wow, this is a hot summer' (even though it gets that hot at some point every summer). In winter, when it gets down to 3 and 4 degrees C at night, we will pile our beds high with ridiculous amounts of blankets and say 'it’s a bit cold this winter, isn’t it?' (even though it gets at least that cold at some point every winter).
Having said that, I live near the city and near the coast, where it usually doesn’t get quite so hot in the summer or quite so cold in the winter. If you live just a couple of dozen kilometres further inland, that is where the temperatures get more regularly to the extremes I mentioned and people are maybe not quite so delusional about living in a place with the perfect climate.

<Snicker snicker>... That's cold? ;-)
This past weekend I was out winter trekking in the mountains. I broke one of my snowshoes three hours into our journey, and we camped in deep snow and -15C or so. By morning, so much snow had fallen that the tent looked like an igloo. :-)
Yeah, I know, it's all relative. And some people are a little bit crazier than others... :-)
Mothman |
Well, it’s not cold when you put it like that!
It is cold when you live in an un- or under- insulated house with large windows and no central heating as many Sydneysiders do (given the belief that ‘it doesn’t get cold here’).
Sometimes it gets down to sort of -5 C at night in winter in the mountains about an hour’s drive from Sydney, but that is pretty rare (I think people from places like Canada would probably scoff at our ‘mountains’ too – they’re fairly low by international standards, I’m not sure if they even officially meet the criteria to be mountains, if there is such a thing).
That (or not even quite that) is about the coldest I had ever experienced until I went to Japan and Europe several years ago. I remember on different occasions walking around both Tokyo and London in winter, wearing far more than most of the locals, and not being able to talk properly my face was so cold. And staying on a mountain top in Switzerland at the end of the coldest winter Europe had had in years (at that point, I think this last one was colder) gave a whole new meaning to cold!
But yeah ... you wouldn’t find me trekking through or camping in those conditions!

Ye gods, Twiceborn. You make it sound like fun.

Hah. Yes, my friend and I realize that our idea of "fun" is not for everyone, and that most people would find us crazy for doing what we do. But we get a strange sense of satisfaction and accomplishment out of it. And we often get to see spectacular landscapes that few others get to see (I still remember the lunar eclipse we saw one year, and how it gave the untouched snow in the area where we camped a rusty orange glow... much more spectacular when the sight isn't ruined by crowds, noise and traffic... just you and the silence of the wilderness in winter).
The coldest I've slept in was about -25C... and by that point, with equipment malfunctions and difficulty warming up beverages and food, things became a little bit less fun. :-)

Belated 'Thank You' Twiceborn!
So,...
Last night,
-Toilet that wouldn't turn off,
-drainage system partially clogged by construction
-entire backstage flooded, starting to enter the stage
-Standing in water up to my ankles with 80 kids in expensive Mardi Gras outfits looking for a place to potty,... PRICELESS!
:)

Dear Mothman
This is a very hard decision but one I have thought about several times recently. It's a shame but I have decided to stop playing on the boards for a long while. My energy levels and creativity have suffered alot since having a second child and my spare time has gradually disappeared over the last few months. There are too many household chores, DIY projects and the like which need to take precedence now. I may even have an opportunity to contribute to one of the 3PP companies in the UK so these games have to be sidelined, even the ones I run.
Thanks for the opportunity to game with all of you, and I wish you well in the future.
Cheers
Mothman |
French Wolf, I understand; between work, family, kids and other aspect of real life things can get busy. I know there are things that I have neglected or have not been able to spend as much time on as I would like in keeping up with these games (fortunately I tend to keep away from DIY projects). I really appreciating you letting me know rather than just vanishing (not that I would expect that of you).
Good luck with things, and yes, let us know how the possible 3PP project (3PPP?) goes.
Have you any preference on how you would like Pharris to depart the campaign?
French Wolf |
If Pharris can leave alive in some way that would leave the door open for her to return one day. I doubt that will happen, because as the kids get older I seem to have less time not more. Although this is the game I would like to return to.
Over the less six months, I keep hoping that there is a light at he end of the tunnel where I get to enjoy the Pbps again, but every time teething or some such has set us back again.
To Rags, Twiceborn, Ash, Brashen and yourself I say thank you for a grand experience, one that given me some memorable moments in gaming.
The contract arrived yesterday for the writing but its only a small gig, 7000+ words nothing special. The company is Raging Swan and the publisher is a mate.
Good luck one and all
Cheers
Andy

I am just lurking at the moment, keeping up to date on the posts.
I'll try and get back to regular posting as soon as I can, but life is very hectic and tiring at the moment.
No worries mate, some of us here know how it is. Hope all is well (apart from being hectic and tiring).

I can't believe I didn't notice this post until now...
Thanks for the kind words, Andy, and best wishes. Playing with you has been a great experience, and I'm sorry to see you go.
All the best with Raging Swan, I have previously purchased some of their products and have been quite impressed by them (they're definitely one of my favourite 3PP).
Cheers!
