Well, it appears to be shallow enough for us to get across without having to swim, but the question is: do we want to wade? Or do we find a way to float? Pavel asks himself as much as the group, stroking the stubble on his chin as he ponders.
Valda Simmons |
Valda looked around the room. "I don't remember anything to help us float in the other rooms off the top of my head, how about you folks?"
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

"Eh, it's a better idea than I've had. And it would have been interesting if it had turned to gold...although explaining that one might have been a challenge." Although not that hard, really. Most people didn't think about where you got thousands of pounds of gold if you were offering to sell it.
Pavel Dmitrovic |
Pavel slinks slightly into the shadows, pulling out a journal and looking through it, ignoring the distractions of the interlopers. For a full minute he pores over his journal before asking in a whisper, What fate will wading through the pool bring myself and these... people? and prays for a Weal answer.

So his pants and gun didn't turn to gold after the initial turning of gold of his boot and ankle-length of pant leg... Hmmm... I'll assume that while notably heavier it's not enough weight to render him immobile, though if it is, the boot will just have to stay behind. :(
Having returned his pants to his waist where they, arguably, belong, and slipping the boot plus golden boot to his feet, Joey claps his hands before removing his trench coat and holding it balled up on his free shoulder with one hand and saying, "Well, my gun didn't turn and my pants didn't turn. Obviously whatever enchantment that turned boots to gold has now passed or only effects cloth? Should be fine to just wade through."
With a little hop into the pool directly in front of where they stand, Joey turns back and says, "C'mon, what are you guys? Scared of a little water?" Turning back to face the door before them, he'll begin to walk towards it, carefully minding his stepping so as to not fall and get his familiar wet.
Pavel Dmitrovic |
In a development which will shock no one, my... Pavel begins before Joey unceremoniously hops into the pool. He sighs deeply as Joey wades farther in and mumbles, well, I suppose it doesn't matter anyway. Looks like we have our first test subject. Pavel then begins his own preparations, removing his own loafers and socks, unsheathing his sword in the same hand, takes the journal from earlier and balances it on his head, and removes his handguns from their holsters, holding them by the trigger guard in his free hand. With a final sigh, he follows Joey and Dave unto the breach.
Valda Simmons |
"This is where having a trans-dimensional gun holster and ammo storage really comes in handy - no wet bullets." Slipping her heavy biker boots off and pulling her gun out so she could hold it above the water, Valda considered slipping out of her armoured bike gear too - she wasn't especially shy - but decided against it. If she was going to fight in the water, she at least wanted that on. Holding both her boots and gun above the water, she headed in after the others, and hoper her armour didn't get converted.
Joseph "Joey" Adams |
Joey laughs for a bit as he says, "Oh Valda! Modern bullet casings are waterproof!" Turning back to see Pavel holding his pistols above the water, he calls out, "Same goes for most pistols too, buddy!"
With a chuckle he marches forward, slightly shaking his head at how silly his friends were before his expression turns grim and he realizes the salt-round magazines he brought with him were submerged. Weakly, he says, "Oh... But I suppose... salt dissolves in water, huh... Whoops. Hope we don't have to rely on non-lethal tactics.. Looks like I'll be shooting blanks in that situation... I knew I should've just bought rubber bullets...."
Pavel Dmitrovic |
Serves you right for not taking care of your weapons, Pavel says, a hint of amusement in his voice, though waterproof, it's still not good for them. Makes maintenance so much easier.
Valda Simmons |
"I'd lend you some, but my gun uses shells." Valda chuckled. "Which also don't typically care about being wet. But between the water and whatever else is in here, I think trans-dimensional storage works better. Also, salt."
Joseph "Joey" Adams |
Calling back, he feigns frustration as he says, "It's the thought that counts, Valda! At least someone has my back! 'Sides, won't be like I'm completely useless. I can still cast some spells... Just... Won't be as save-the-day effective as I usually am.."

Will Saving throws for everyone. Some effects are negative, some are positive, so making the save isn't necessarily a good thing. Also, none are going to handicap your character in any significant way, so don't worry about being arbitrarily screwed (well, long term, anyway).

OOOhhhh! I knew that would happen! xD Wonder what effect that'll net me.

Not when you're chaotic!! >:D God help us, if Joey was Chaotic Neutral, he'd just be sitting here drinking the shit xD

B-but wait... Does that count as a Nat1 since you rolled the die's lowest value, or is it a crit, for rolling the highest value on the die?

Annnnd...everyone succeeds except Joey.
By the time everyone reaches the other short, they are drenched in the "liquid", but most everyone is completely unaffected.
At first it appears Joey, too, is unaffected, but soon he starts to feel different, quicker somehow. Joey is under the a Cat's Grace effect for the next several hours. For once your poor rolls paid off..
Joseph "Joey" Adams |
Cool! Agile Joey! xD
Emerging from the pool, Joey sets his familiar down and begins shaking himself free of the excess water before unballing his trench coat and returning it around his body. The Investigator begins stretching and limbering up, a new feeling of acrobatics coming over him as he turns to the others and says, "Man, that was actually a refreshing dip! I'm gonna have figure out what kind of minerals they got in this pool so I can bath in this back home! I feel so limber! Do you guys feel anything?"
As he asks, he starts hopping on each leg, testing his newfound grace.
Joseph "Joey" Adams |
Shrugging his shoulders, Joey says, "Eh, you probably just dipped in wrong. You're right though, let's see what other horrors await us in this ruin! Maybe the next room will have a spa to go with this wonderful mineral water!"
Advancing down the path before them, he prances gracefully with each step akin to a model on a catwalk.

I sincerely doubt that this "Order of the White Angel" would have put something so pleasing in their dungeon, Pavel grumpily says while he does his best to dry himself, especially his scabbard and holsters. He is at least pleased his divinations were mistaken this time, and that nothing too unpleasant happened in these waters. At least there were no snakes this time...

Well, potential for both was there, but everyone who rolled a bad thing made the save...
Stepping out of the cavern, you find yourselves in a narrow chamber with a slope leading down. There is a dim blue-ish light from the bottom of the slope, about 100' down. Standing in the doorway, a gust of cool wind blows up from below.
Pavel Dmitrovic |
I had figured, but Pavel wouldn't know from his perspective :-P
Valda Simmons |
Having pulled her boots back on, Valda sighed slightly at the light. "What now? Will of the Whisps? Corpse lights? Something else that's weird and horrible and sheds light?" Heading down carefully, gun ready, the Magus kept an eye out for any more traps.

Not many steps down the long decline, Valda notices the floor is becoming icy. Staying upright the entire length of the tunnel is going to be a challenge.
Also, the water in your clothing is already beginning to freeze. There may be some adverse affects if you're forced to be in the area more than a few minutes.
Valda Simmons |
Valda sighed, since it was mostly her armour and underwear that had gotten wet. The underwear she could change, but the armour...well, it was pretty waterproof, since it was enhanced leather.

If you're not covered in wet cloth, it will be an inconvenience at most.
SINCE it seems like most of you took precautions against getting your clothes wet, I'm not going to require any special rolls for the cold due to that specifically. Consider it flavor and let's move on.
The matter at hand now is negotiating down the 100' icy slope without falling. Unless you take some precaution, I'm going to require Reflex Saves.
Isagoras the Light |
Isagoras had been mostly silent at this time, pondering inner mysteries, like why -would- the Order but an omni-pool here? Or was it really part of the Order's plan? Could it have spontaneously sprung up from some other, unrelated magicks?
But at the icy slope, he stops and rummages in his sack. "I have with me some yardage of fine rope. Tho, alas, I have insufficient amounts for so great a distance. We may either attach it to a fixed point and grasp hold for as long as it may last, or we may lash it about ourselves, confiding that the chain may be stronger than the whole for each link.
I know what I would do, but I leave up to popular opinion in this matter."
50' of silk rope for a 100' problem. =)

Sorry I was missing the past day or two.
"You know, I actually had ready a spell to turn into a raven this morning... But I used that magical energy for healing."
Pavel Dmitrovic |
Pavel barely contains his look of disdain at the suggestion, you may lash the rope to each other if you wish, but I will abstain. I do not want to tie my fate to yours for the time being. Any more than I have, in any case...
Hopefully he won't regret it for the rest of his life, haha

Assuming someone else has a 50' length as well, you tie them together and anchor them to the rock at the top. The way gets very slick the further you go, but holding onto the rope limits the affair to several sore buttocks and a pulled arm muscle or two, rather than a high-speed slip and slide into the unknown.
At the bottom, you find a room about 30' by 30'. Light is coming in from the side. There's a hole in the rock wall seemingly leading to the outside (in the "funnel"). If you'd slid down the entire way, you may well have arced left and flew right out into the open air, where you'd be facing a very long drop.
Inside the room is freezing; it is not difficult to tell that it's magically maintained at this temperature.
Suddenly, something catches your eye. Fluttering about the room, you see 4 small humanoid creatures with leathery wings and small horns.

Sry. Copy-pasted a previous roll and left you out. My bad.
ANYWAY, go ahead and post your actions regardless of order, since you all act once before them.
