"Literally none of those three things could describe Dave any better. His routine is certainly something to throw money at!" Joseph says in a joking manner, though wouldn't be surprised by anything Dave could respond with. Setting some of his attention on the photos, the investigator tries to recognize the location.

I think this is literally only the second time Inspired has rolled in my favour xD I'm just glad Knowledge, Spellcrafts, and Linguistics get unlimitedy Inspires-rations as long as you have a rank in the one you're rolling for x3 I think it's one of those "gotta have at least 1 point in your pool to use it" though, but it still works for me xD

Starsoul takes a moment to catch his breath. He's never broken a man's arm before, but he senses that he might have to again before it was his time to leave Arzata. The Universe wanted him to meet these other people, but why? And magic was real too? He wonders if the spellcasters are manipulating their prana somehow. And if they are, does that mean he could do it too...?

Instead of aiding in the investigation, Starsoul moves over to the documents written in Sanskrit and starts reading.

Starsoul goes back to reading the documents hanging on the walls. They are parts of vedic script, but re-written or re-imagined from the cult's perspective of the importance of the fire god Agni. At the same time the scripts increase the importance of the fire god, they also twist the meaning of the deity into something oppressive and foul.

Joey and Valda manage to discern the approximate location the photos are referencing; it's in the hills just north of here, probably within hiking distance. Indeed, unless you're using an ATV, hiking is probably the only way you're going to get there.

Joey also notes the time of day the photos were taken; Dawn, just a few hours from now.

As Isagoras' eyes linger on the unconscious captain, he notices the very nice armbands he's wearing, bronze and leather in Indian style.

Isagoras ponders to himself. He scratches his chin as if contemplating very difficult maths. At last he nods, and says, "Methinks that in our celerity to render the overmind null, we hast neglected the duty most paramount and mayhap have left resources as yet un-checked. Let me now rectify this."

With that he casts Detect Magic. He starts on the Captain himself, but then gives the rest of the house a once-over.

I'm not going to play real strict with identifying magic items, since you're not going to find that many you actually want to keep (probably a very few per character for the whole game); these, however, would be worth it. They are bracers of armor +1.

As I understand it, you're gathering up what evidence you want and heading out of the house so Dave can "clean up" the problem at hand.

Assuming that's happened, and no one does anything contrary to that goal, you head out and leave the immediate area so that you're nowhere near the place when it burns.

Gathering somewhere nearby, you're now left with a decision. If you want to stop whatever goal this cult is working toward, you have precious few hours to find the specific location they're working in, in the hills just north of here. You'll pretty much have to go on foot, and it's still dark, so there's limited light.

"Thanks Dave - I knew I could count on you!" Taking his lighter from his pocket, Joey starts up another cigarette before handing Dave his silver Zippo.

After arriving at their rendezvous spot and having his lighter returned to him, Joey looks among his peers and says, "We're running out of time, comrades. We have to find their ritual zone and try to stop them before they can do whatever it is they think they're doing. Any suggestions? Whatever we do, we gotta do it fast."

Dave takes a deep breath, as if centering himself. "It's dark..." His eyes close, and then he slowly reopens them. A redish glow almost seems to peek out from behind his glasses, but surely that's just a trick of the light. "But the darkness is where I do best. I can guide everyone to where we need to go, and we won't be needing any light to do so."

Ki point to activate Darkvision.

ouch, those are some crappy perception checks; at least Valda made it.

The mountain paths are dangerous in the dark, and the group finds it necessary to use at least a small amount of light (such as a lighter) even with Dave's help, or progress at an incredibly slow pace. Every now and then, you stop and take stock of where you are in relation to the other hills.

Finally, you find what must be the area in the photographs. The light of a campfire glows in the center. There is very little that can be seen at this distance, either by the firelight or by Dave's Darkvision. But Valda can hear the faint chanting of several men.

The sun is just starting to rise; it will take you probably 15 minutes to get to the bottom of the rise you are on, at which point the lighting condition will be dim.

Cocking her head, Valda focused on the noise she could only just here. "I can hear some people chanting," she murmured to the others. "I think we might want to make sure it isn't still happening once the sun has risen."

Assuming they have the same trouble seeing in the dark as you do, you can easily get closer (aka onto the combat map I have ready) and Dave could scout ahead from there to get more information.

"Nah, we trust you Dave - all we really need to know are enemy positions, how many enemies there are, and where any candles and chalk drawings are.You got this, bruh," Joey says as he gives Dave a thumbs up and waits to see what happens.

Dave manages to sneak across the sands, ducking behind rocks and shrubs, up to 30' behind the group.

There are 14 men and women there; they're all dressed in robes of red and gold, and most are brandishing bronze knives. They are gathered around a central fire, chanting. In the flames, Dave can barely make out a plethora of faces writhing.

The group is slowly expanding their circle outwards, and as they do, the flames grow.

The rest of the group is waiting several yards away in a hilly groove.

I'll post a map on my website and link to it later this afternoon.

Looking among his peers, he waits their response as he texts Dave the same question to see if he has any ideas on how to approach them.

Pointing a finger at Valda, Joey chimes, "I like the way you think. Magic shotgun always beats knife. It's decided then - let's smoke these doombringers."

With a quick text back to Dave, Joey sends him a response.

Crouching down and giving a "c'mon" wave, Joey begins to advance towards the group of fire-worshipers, heading 30ft straight right from his location.

Dave checks his phone one last time, before putting it away and reaching for a dart. He contemplates, and decides to use the 'Dusk Eye' poison one. He aims for one of the closest members, while maintaining his stealth.

Dave dryly notes that he must've accidentally hit an artery. No, wait. these people just seemed that feeble that the pain of a single dart alone seemed to know one out, as he didn't display the typical traits of Dusk Eye collapse. He decides to save his poisons for tougher looking foes instead.

Also Dave you should check out LastPass it's a password manager that helps you make strong passwords that are unique for each website that you don't have to remember them all. It also will automatically log you into most sites. Just double checked, and the freeforums site Rando uses is compatible. :D
