Itzal picks her way over the fallen zombies, to attempt to disable the next closest glyph. The thought of the zombie possibly coming back to life distracts her enough that she loses focus.
Uriah taunts the one that looks like a pincushion, causing it to reel, but it yet stands!
Wrathmire peppers it further, and it will not fall!
Ander moves up to the crossbowman and swings hard at the untouched zombie! The blade digs deep, but the creature comes at the merchant-warrior! With a clubbing swing, the zombie catches Ander in the shoulder! Ander take 4 hp.
The pincushioned zombie swings at Wrathmire! Despite the apparent effects of Uriah's taunting manages to land a solid blow on the shifty crossbowman! Wrathmire takes 4 hp.
Presmer flings another fiery bolt at the pincushion and the undead beast falls finally, dragon head smoldering...
Everyone else may go again. Only one zombie left standing.

Combat over.
It doesn't take Itzal long to finish disabling the remaining three glyphs, at which time, the quivering bodies fall still with a sort of finality.
The distraction finally gone, Presmer moves to the far corner and destroys the teleportation circle.
All that is left is the pile of gold coins in the corner.
Who is doing what? It seems that threat has been removed from the crypt, with the exception of the alchemical agents in the middle chamber, which are still unidentified.
Uriah Lewis |
Uriah says Well, that was fun. and he sheathes his blade with a well practiced flourish
Sir Adrian Fullbright |
Well done, all! We certainly silenced that threat.
Sir Adrian cleans and sheathes his Greatsword on his back, while he looks around the room a little more carefully.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 2
Aeshuura |
Sorry, I misread something.
A simple search leads to the revelation that the "gold" coins are, in fact, wooden coins painted gold.
Taking in all of the information that you can, you head back up. Any samples of the alchemy dissolve into nothingness at the touch of sunlight. Brother Keefe asks where you got the samples, and with an examination, he says that in the teachings of Kelemvor, they are taught to recognize things related to the creation of undead. He concludes that it is possible that they were attempting to raise Lady Xandria as a dracolich!
"Bad news. Bad news. Thank you all for helping me with this," the Keeper of the Dead fishes through the pockets of his robe and produces a hefty sack. "100 pieces of gold, as promised. Again, the Most Solemn Order of the Silent Shroud thank you for your service."
He admits that the rumors of Lady Xandria's draconic origins came from a source within the organization, and that same contact told him that the Welcomers, sort of a thieves' guild in Phlan, have been investigating various dragon-themed leads in the last month as well.
He says, "The Lords' Alliance would welcome the two of you, should you find that your goals align with ours. If not, we wish you luck and hope that you continue your fine work."

You may all spend some time with more RP back at the Tea Kettle. I will introduce the next part of the story later today. Additionally, you gain another 100 xp. All of the 1st-lvl characters may level up to 2nd, but those of you that are already 2nd lvl from my previous run, do not level up, because you will level out of the module if you do. Thanks!
Aeshuura |
You spent 40 getting studded leather (+5 for selling leather; -45 for purchase of studded leather) and purchased 2 score of bolts so far (1 gp each; 2 gp total). I will put that down in your log.
Aeshuura |
Madame Freona's Tea Kettle is crowded this evening, as the Evenfeast meal has brought many hungry patrons. A young halfling woman called Blaizette, obviously one of Madame Freona's daughters, wears a blue handkerchief and acts as your server for the meal. She manages to keel a smile despite the busy night.
After she brings your meals and heads off to another table, a half-orc pulls up a chair and gives you a toothy grin. "Just act normal," he says through clenched teeth, "but listen closely. Everyone's life may be in danger. My name is Buhrell and I represent the Emerald Enclave, a group that watches over the happenings in Phlan and beyond. I was recently told by an associate that a potentially devastating magical object was brought into the Kettle. We are not sure what it looks like or who has it, so I need your help finding it. For the safety of everyone here, would you be willing to split up and talk to anyone who looks suspicious? Be discreet, we do not want to tip them off that we know, because they may accidentally or intentionally set it off."
Aeshuura |
By now you know that Presmer is some sort of Magic priest, maybe he could help single people out, but...
Several tables stand out a little. At one table, a wild elf dines alone. She looks out of place in a nice establishment like the Kettle. She wears leathers, dirty with sweat, grime, and the stains of moving through the wilds. A fine-looking bow of strange, purple-hued wood is strung across her back.
At another table, two older women dine together, but they seem to be spending more time looking around the room than chatting with each other.
An older human man and a dwarven woman dine together at another table. They speak in low tones, but speak emphatically. Neither looks like an adventurer, though, as they are both dressed in fine clothes.
At one table, a half-elven man dines alone, playing with his food, a grumpy look upon his face. He jots notes in a small book on the table.
A pale-scaled female dragonborn sits alone at a table. She looks around nervously and starts at almost every sound.
The last, but not least, group is composed of three halflings dressed in bright motley colors sitting at the bar. They speak loudly in an unintelligible speech.
Aeshuura |
Wrathmire |
Wrathmire whispers, we should maybe split up, and chat with the a few folks. I'll talk to the dragonborn. I expect the elf to just be a ranger or guide and the half-elf just looks like a guy down on his luck or so. I'm not sure I would be good talking to a group. Anyone want to join me? I've been known to stumble over my tongue...
Senka/Itzal |
insight: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Itzal whispers back, Definitely not my strong suit either. Suggestions?
Ander Meliamne |
Ander whispers to Buhrell, "I think it might be the human and dwarf over there. I've seen lots of deals in my day, and they look to be working the details of a deal they don't want people to know about. Should we try to get them outside somehow, away from all these people?"
Aeshuura |
It seems that Buhrell, after speaking with the halfling girl, Blaizette, has gone into the back to speak to Madame Freona. You assume that he will be right back, but the deal seems to be progressing and you do not know how long you have... How would you like to proceed?
Uriah Lewis |
Insight: 1d20 ⇒ 5
Uriah is far too self absorbed to notice other people.
Ah, what hm? Dragonborn you say. Yes yes. Good songs about them..real epic poetry.
Senka/Itzal |
Itzal studies the human and dwarf, whispering to Ander, Perhaps those two? They seem to be working on an illicit deal of some sort...
Uriah Lewis |
Uriah now is paying attention
Huh? Uptight? Well, I have the answer for that! Uriah saunters over to the dragonborn
Well. Is it hot in here, or are you happy to see me? he snarks Just joshing with ya. You guys new around here? I'm Uriah, be happy to play you a song, or write one.

Aeshuura |
Sorry, my weekend involved me running two of my games that I try to stagger for every other week. Anyway, does anyone have detect magic? Ander, you could try to go up and talk to them to see if you glean anything more?
Uriah sidles up to the dragonborn woman. She starts a bit and she is alone, so I assume you alter that to are you, rather than are you guys? clearly uncomfortable, "I have only arrived recently, and n-no, thank you."
Uriah's Insight (Jack of all Trades): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
As he presses her a little more, Uriah finds that she is going by the name Halda Which Uriah thinks is not her true name and that she is in town visiting family Uriah is fairly sure she is not.
Ander Meliamne |
Ander, you could try to go up and talk to them to see if you glean anything more?
Except I have no idea what I would try to talk to them about that would be useful. So maybe my character knows? Can I try Persuasion or something and let my character do the talking, so to speak? If so, I'll totally spend Inspiration on it.
Aeshuura |
No need to spend inspiration, unless you want. But you can make a Charisma check, and I will take it from there. I agree this is an awkwardly written challenge. Especially since they send off the one person that could help guide you.
Aeshuura |
Ander approaches the dwarf and the human, "Excuse me, I am fairly new in town and am interested in possibly opening shop here. I saw you both, finely dressed citizens, and I thought to myself, Now, there is a couple that knows how to make some money! Could I trouble you for a little advice?"
The man looks up at you with a look of irritation, looking suspiciously over his shoulder, "This is a private meeting, young man. If you wish advice, let me give you some. Mind your own business, it will do you good."
Anyone that is watching this scene unfold, notices the man's hand moving defensively toward his pack.
The dwarven woman speaks up, "In this town, Mister, asking the wrong questions could get you hurt." She raises her hands slightly, noting the sword at your side, "Not a threat, but genuine advice."
Would any of you rogue-y types like to sneak a look into the pack, or somehow otherwise try to investigate, since the man and dwarf are distracted?
