Aleksys |
arcana: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
Aleksys examines the room, the equipment, and the dust patterns, looking for anything interesting - particularly evidence of who was last working in here, which entrance (if more than one) they used, which exit (if more than one) they used, etc.
DoubleGold |
Aleksys knows there is only one entrance and exit, and whoever was here last, well that was years ago, as you can tell these chemicals have been here years, but they still last as they are magical.
Also, as Aleksys studies the chemicals she knows it is a bad idea to mix the chemicals unless you are an evil necromancer who can control the undead. The chemicals will reanimate the skeletons. She knows that they can be destroyed with nothing bad happening or at the very least just dumped out onto the ground. Nothing good can come from these, and it suggest that last person who was here several years ago is an evil magician. Although you don't know exactly how long ago this was, it could be anywhere from centuries to just a few years ago.
DoubleGold |
You all destroy the equipment as you poor the liquid out onto the ground a couple of feet apart from where you pored the last liquid. It is really just normal science stuff. It's all in glass tubes and vials with stoppers on them filled with liquid. With funnels and tubes and other good stuff to help you poor carefully.
Gotta go, be back on to describe in good detail the last section of this map.
DoubleGold |
Heroes reach the teleportation circle room, the final room of the crypt, and yes the way out to open the door lies within the glyphs and the teleportation circle or maybe the gold.
This chamber’s walls are painted to look like the inside of a
dragon’s lair: the scenes depict piles of treasure, robed
acolytes bowing in supplication, bound prisoners being served
up as a meal, etc. All the paintings focus toward the alcove in
the south wall, where a pile of gold coins form a nest perfect
for a large dragon!
In addition to the paintings, there are four large glyphs: one
each on the north, south, east and west walls. The southern
glyph is within the alcove. These glyphs glow slightly in the
dark of the rooms.
In the northwest corner of the room, a teleportation circle has
been etched into the floor. The lack of wear on the etchings
implies that the circle was created very recently. A thick metal
rod, inscribed with sigils stands in the middle of the circle.
Lying on the floor in different parts of the room are 4 dead
bodies. Although the bodies look roughly humanoid, they are
stitched together from various parts, including some that
appear to be draconic in nature.
arcana dc 10 to identify the glyphs
DoubleGold |
As hereos identify the glpys they are able to understand the magic to shut down two of them, but just a second before they are able to do that, 4 zombies animate, and the heroes know that shutting these down will get rid of the zombies and any undead in here permanently, though they can also fight them and then shut them down if they wish.
As the heroes shut down the glyps two zombies go blind. using an arcana check to shut down one glpyh is an action.
init: -2 + 1d20 ⇒ -2 + (1) = -1 zombies
init: 8 + 1d20 ⇒ 8 + (20) = 28 tergin
init: 1 + 1d20 ⇒ 1 + (8) = 9 berly
init: 3 + 1d20 ⇒ 3 + (20) = 23
You here the skeletons animate at the far end in the first room.
Hereos are up.
DoubleGold |
Please note: I took the map down, my computer blocked it and said the said link was hacked.
The room is 20 feet by 20 feet with the gold being 10 by 10 feet in its own corner, ie a second room.
Three zombies are in melee with the hereos at the corners. with the four zombie by itself
Each zombie in a corner. the blind zombies are the ones that had their circles disabled.
DoubleGold |
Aleksys fails to disable one, while Beryl disables another easily.
botting Tergin
intelligence: 1d20 ⇒ 14 and he disables the last one shutting down the zombies and stopping the undead. You also disable the teleporation circle in the middle. Though if anyone goes back to the entrance, the door is still locked, as there seems to be one more mechanism tied to it. noone checked the gold yet
DoubleGold |
Berly discovers that the gold is fake instantly assuming he actually touches the gold. As they are made of wood and painted, and they were burring small dragons, dead now and nothing but bones. Then a magical glass wall goes up and he is trapped in the room. 1 minute later he gets out. It was a dc 15 arcana check to disable it and since we were out of combat you could just keep trying until you succeed.
With that the door opens and the heroes escape the crypt.
conclusion to part 3 and the start of part 4 coming soon.
Beryl Ironjoy |
Beryl wouldn't have touched it until the two rogues had a chance to examine it, but maybe he accidentally stepped on the edge of the pile. When the glass wall goes up, he would have felt it first, then bashed on it a couple of times. He would have hit it first with a one-handed swing. If it did not break, he would have made a double handed strike.
If it still did not break, he would have then called to the others saying something like, "I guess we need to magic the @#$% out of this thing. Any ideas?"
DoubleGold |
As you all exit the crypt. Brother Keefe brings up the idea.
With all this necrotic magic in that crypt, I think they were trying to create a dracolich or at least resurrect one. I have heard rumors of a dracolich from the Lords Alliance, but had to investigate if it were true. The Welcomers, a thieves guild have been investigating such things for a month. Not sure if they are involved with such evil things or not, though you have stopped it.
Part 4: A Shock at EvenFeast
The characters are approached by a half-orc seeking
help in finding a powerful magic item.
You were told that Madame Freona’s Tea Kettle was the place
where adventurers could find work and avoid the hassle
associated with other places in Phlan. So far, that has been
true. Madame Freona, a stout and officious halfling who runs
the establishment with her five daughters, has proven an
excellent hostess.
The Tea Kettle is crowded this evening, as the Evenfeast meal
has brought many hungry patrons. A young halfling woman
called Blaizette, obviously one of Freona’s daughters, wears a
blue kerchief and acts as your server for the meal. She
manages to keep a smile despite the busy night.
After she brings your meals and heads off to another table, a
half-orc pulls up a chair and smiles a toothy smile at you. “Just
act normal,” he says through clenched teeth, “but listen
closely. Everyone’s life might be in danger. My name is Buhrell
Caah. I represent the Emerald Enclave, a group that watches
over the happenings in Phlan and beyond. I was just told by an
associate that a potentially devastating magical object was
brought into the Tea Kettle. We don’t know what it looks like or
who has it, but I need your help in finding it. Could you split
up and talk to anyone who looks suspicious, and find out if
they are in possession of a powerful item? Do not let anyone
know what you are doing, for the possessor of the item might
set it off if he or she knows we are aware.”
Beryl Ironjoy |
That evening, sitting around the table with his new companions, Beryl speaks up, "Whew, that was certainly an conundrum. What do you guys think is going on with all this activity about dragons?"
Tergin Rell |
Tergin is sitting across the table from Beryl, absentmindedly shuffling a deck of cards.
I don't like it one bit, he says, then, lowering his voice, he adds, and I like the bit about necrotic magic even less.
DoubleGold |
okay game on, though leveling might not be necessary in part four, because combat might not happen at all, I just wanted to make sure all people had all their abilities by I start. Also, Aleksys, you con is a +0, because it is 11. So you HP should be 13 not 15
As heroes asked to talk to people in the room they see the following.
Table 1
A wild elf dines alone at this table. She looks out of place in a
nice establishment like this. She wears leather armor dirty with
sweat, grime, and the stains of moving through vegetation. A
fine-looking bow of strange, purple-hued wood is strung
across her back.
Table 2
Two older human women dine together, but they seem to be
spending more time looking around the room than chatting
with each other.
Table 3
An older human man and dwarven woman dine together,
talking emphatically. Neither looks like an adventurer, as both
are dressed in fine clothes.
Table 4
A half-elf man dines alone, playing with his food with a grumpy
expression on this face. He jots notes in a small book on the
table.
Table 5
A pale-scaled dragonborn woman dines alone. She looks
around nervously as she eats, startling at every sound.
Table 6
Three halflings dressed in bright motley colors dine at the bar.
They talk loudly, but in a language that is unrecognizable.
Beryl Ironjoy |
To Tergin and Aleksys, Beryl speaks in low tones, "I'll take the halflings. I speak a bit o' the wee folk, then I will wander back to our table."
Beryl makes his way to the halflings. Can I understand what they are speaking? I know halfling. If not, I will approach them anyway.
Speaking in the halfling tongue, "Greetings, wee ones! Care t' share a drink with a friend o' the folk?"
DoubleGold |
When Beryl gets there, he realized they were only talking about the halfling party get together coming up for their friends and family. when Beryl goes to greet himself, they stop their conversation. "Greetings, we are tumblers, so I guess you like our work?"
One of the halflings wears a belt pouch that radiates
faint magic. The pouch contain some dust which
magically expands into a cloud when tossed to the
ground. It is part of their tumbling act.
Beryl Ironjoy |
"Always loved the tumblin' o' the folk. When are ye performin'? I'd like come and support ye," Beryl grins.
After finding out what he can, he moseys back to the table to share what he has found out.
--
Is the dwarf lass pretty? Beryl may head that way next... ;)
DoubleGold |
"We perform nowhere in particular, because our show travels. We currently have a show going on for a few days in Plan." and he tells you the exact location of the show in Plan.
The dwarf is 4' 6" 100 LBS, tan skin, bright red hair, blue eyes. Does not have facial hair as she is a woman. You tell me if she is pretty.
As you approach the human says. "This is a private sentiment."
The dwarf woman answers. "Oh, relax, we can continue such conversation later, it must be important to him if he came over here."
Beryl Ironjoy |
"Ahh, ye have me thanks, lass! Believe it or not, ye're the first dwarf I've met here in this city! I surely miss the hospitality of the Dwarvish Halls, don't ye know!" Beryl throws her a wink and regards the human man, "Ye don't look like yer accustomed to such finery, lad."
DoubleGold |
At Beryl Na, it is not here I'm interested, this was just a business meeting
At Tergin I just had it rough lately She is a White Dragonborn. She takes a breath. The name is Halda. I was looking for treasure in the mountains, but I got attack by bandits twice, they must be after it as well, and whatever I own.
Tergin Rell |
At the Dragonborn female:
I know what it is to be frustrated in our never ending search for treasure! Well, at least you are in a warm cozy inn and not freezing in some icy mountain pass tonight! I bid you peace and a good evening.
Getting up from the dragonborn's table, Tergin overhears Beryl's conversation with the dwarf and moves over to his table.
Good evening Beryl,, Tergin says, then turning to the man and dwarf, Good evening to you both, as well. Did I hear you say you sell valuable and rare objects? Do you have any for sale today? I have recently returned to Phlan from a successful expedition and have some gold to spend, Tergin says in a conspiratorial whisper.
He adds, softly, Do you have any magical items to sell?
DoubleGold |
The man responds. Magical items? Why yes, here you go. He shows you a couple of rare items he pulls out of his backpack, but you don't know if they are magical or not. You aren't even sure if they are rare. Some of them are junk, like a feather from a very rare bird. Some of them do look rare or magical, but they could also be fakes or maybe not.
Beryl Ironjoy |
"Wow, you got some neat stuff here... Terg, you see anything that tickles yer fancy?" Beryl flashes a broad grin to the dwarf lass before turning back to the man, "But, as ye can see, I'm not much fer a magic kind o' guy, how do I knows these are magic? They look just like normal items. Take this feather, what's it do? Can I take her fer a test drive?"
DoubleGold |
What some of this stuff does is for me to know and for you to find out. In other words, they are secret. This feather however is not magical, it just belongs to a very rare bird, thus an endangered species. He does mention the name of the bird, and yes it is a rare species, if you even go so far as to ask other people if the feather came from that bird, or if it is a fake or came from another bird, a few people know enough to say yes it is real and came from that type of bird. That feather usually sells for 75 gold.
Beryl Ironjoy |
Beryl laughs, "Do I look like I can cast spells to you? I hope you do not plan to stake your reputation on this. I mean things could get ugly, if you cheat your customers..."
I am going to roll an insight to see if he is trying to fleece me.
Insight: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
DoubleGold |
Okay, I give up says the man He pulls out his item from the backpack that you are all looking for and by accident it drops on the floor an shatters. He then gets shocked with lightning and falls on the ground, though you can't tell if he is dead or not, the lightning then transfers to another person and he gets shocked as well. You can tell that it jumps from person to person and the lightning does not seem to stop. People scream in panic as this happens.
Tergin Rell |
Beryl! The item is shattered! There is nothing to grab!
Tergin gets down on his knees next to the shattered item in order to examine it better. He is desperately looking for some way to shut it off or contain the lightning.
