yeah, you can go ahead and take your turn, 3 of you are before the bad guys, but I'll resolve them in order. If this changes movement or anything, I'll adjust accordingly. Like if you say I move 25 feet to get into melee, well, they may move to you. Or one may move while others stay back, I'd have you move up after you kill the one in melee with you, etc.
Beryl Ironjoy |
I just want to say that there are a couple of reasons that Beryl refers to each of you in a vague or impersonal way. The first is that since this was a subterfuge mission, he felt it was safer not knowing your names (so there were no accidental usage of names) and as such, has not introduced himself.
The second is that he doesn't know your names. We didn't introduce ourselves, a fact that Beryl will remedy once we get back to the hostel. :)

Actually, Beryl would wait until the prisoner is gone (presumably taken by the Black Fist) before introducing himself. (Plus, he would prefer Aleksys be awake.) ^_^ So, I will wait until after the conclusion for this section has been posted.

Double, I hope everything is ok.
I do have a couple of questions on what is going on. This is my first Adventurer's League game, although I have plenty of experience with RPGA and PFS. Are Adventurer's League games organized the same way, in other words, are they 4-5 hour rounds? Is there a certificate involved and should I be keeping some kind of log?
DoubleGold |
There is a log sheet you keep it on. Certificates are given for magic items, but they are not required. They are only given at stores that host D&D. The log sheet is done at the end of this module as it is a 5 part scenario and you are only through part 1. They are 4 hour rounds. Some of them 2. Others might be much longer.

Sorry, I am visiting family right now. I will try to check in, but today is my nieces' birthday and tomorrow is their party, so I may be slow to respond tomorrow.

I have to go to Oahu for meetings Thursday and Friday, so I will be absent. You may bot me to keep things moving.
Remember that I have Heavy Armor Master so I reduce and bludgeoning/slashing/piercing damage I take by 3.
Attack = +5
Damage = 1d8+5
AC 18
If I take more than half of my hp, I use Second Wind to heal 1d10+1.

I have a couple of questions:
1. I failed my str saving throw against the wolf's trip attack, so I assume I am prone at the beginning of my next turn. How does 5e deal with standing from prone? I looked through the PHB but couldn't find an entry for standing from prone.
2. From reading the description of Sneak attack, my understanding is I can add 1d6 damage on a successful hit on the wolf on a successful attack since Beryl is within five feet of the wolf. Is that correct?
Thanks for your patience with my questions, I am still getting used to 5e (but I like it so far!)

Testing:
longbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 131d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
longbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
longbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 61d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
longbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 111d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
longbow: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 211d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Some of those are much better. I don't suppose I can use them for my next several rolls...since they're already recorded and there's proof I rolled what I say I rolled?
Zirul Huntinghawk |
That was a discussion test, not an actual attack, but feel free to test whatever you'd like. I actually know how the rolls work though, as I've done several different experiments and I can definitely spade it. I can't predict what I'll roll, but I know the mechanics and what affects a roll and what does not.
roll: 1d5 ⇒ 5
roll: 1d7 ⇒ 4
roll: 2d20 ⇒ (6, 15) = 21
roll: 1d7 ⇒ 1 I rolled a 1, I edited this sentence in to show that this does change the roll.
roll: 1d13 ⇒ 13
I even changed my alias just now when I hit edit for this sentence, and none of my rolls changed, the d5 is still a 5, the d7 is still a 4, the 2d20 is still 6 and 15, the d13 is still 13

Yeah, I've figured it out. I just can't seem to get decent rolls in any gameplay threads, which is frustrating when my character is of a level where they're supposed to be competent enough to hit more often than not. I mostly miss because the RNG gives me all ones and twos. Seriously, how does the narrative explain it when a 60-year veteran sharpshooter can't hit the broad side of a barn? It's just frustrating.

He is old, so his body is aching for the day, he may need to have a surgery or get something fixed. Maybe he is getting arthrites, maybe his arm hurts from target practice the other day, his muscles ache, and other old age problems.
Will be back on to write conclusion of part two soon.

I hope you all like puzzles, because your first encounter is a puzzle instead of a combat, and yes it is on a timer. If you are all like me and riddles and puzzles in roleplaying games are hard for you, I guess I could walk you through it a little, knowing I have the answer, but I'll let you try it on your own first.
Aeshuura |
I was waiting for more responses if you wanted to roleplay, but I'll just go ahead and continue part three.
I was waiting for a response from the Keeper. NPC responses go a long way toward stimulating RP. Otherwise it really doesn't feel like the world is living and breathing.
I cannot speak for everyone, but I feel like we are just watching a movie, with little interaction with the world other than the things we kill.
Now that I know that you are waiting for some RP between us, I will endeavor to do interparty banter. :)
DoubleGold |
Yeah, sorry, I had a misconception of that is what players wanted due to inactivity. I assumed they preferred it to be more like a movie, due to lack of interaction. It is also partly my fault. I usually wait till everyone reacts to a situation, but in some situations, only one person reacts. Guess I'll be more attentive to each post.

Had a pretty good one, wish I could have watched the entirety of the Acquisitions Inc. stream, but alas, had to go and be a real DM. :p
