Adventures from the Lost Tomes

Game Master Dementia Walker

Hey everyone I used to DM tabletop DnD but haven't for quite some time I am willing to try my hand at DMing a PbP I am looking for 3 people that are willing to play a character driven game. Basically what your characters want to do I will set up for them to do (I figure it will be far easier doing it via PbP then at an actual table top game) I will use your goals to make the campaign around you. If you want your character to become a god (and your character and the campaign last long enough) then he will become one. If you want to create your own city from nothing, then you can. Just give me your character ideas and what your short, med, and long term goals are for that character and I will pick a few that seem to mesh well for the campaign.

I might be interested. What rule system are you using? Pathfinder, 3.5, 3.0, 4th, 2nd, 1st?

Graynore wrote:

Same question. So far all the characters I have are pathfinder and I'd perfer to do a Pathfinder game. I am interested in this though since it sounds very character based and making the group the stars which the games are meant to do, however I am sure you are far more experienced and better than me so therefore you will know what you are doing.

Pathfinder rule system is what I was planning to use, for some reason I failed to state that in my first post. I don't mind if everyone that wants to play is going to come from some far off town or if everyone wants to know everyone else to begin. I will find some way to bring you together for the campaign.

Just a warning though this is going to be a completely free form campaign so anything could happen. If one of the people that joins decides he wants to overthrow the kingdom at level two or something and the city guard catches wind of his harebrained scheme (unless it could somehow miraculously work) then that character is probably going to be thrown in jail for life or executed, so make sure that your goals are at least plausible.

It has always annoyed me when playing as a character when a DM says "Ok, you enter the city and are accosted by the guards. Because you are powerful you are forced to join the adventures guild so they can keep tabs on you." and they they use that as the basis for all their adventures. I figured others may be annoyed by that too so i figured I would ask the players what they wanted.

Yeah, not everyone has a Adventure's guild. I don't have one in mine because I believe PCs should be allowed to do whatever they do, but not without any punishment. Like you said, if they want to overthrow a King or something and speak openly about it, it's going to piss people off.

Consiquences for every action just like a Roleplaying game should be. that's what I'm aiming for.

Anymore info like point buy and what our exp will be and allowed races? Just core races or are Tiefling and Aasimar allowed? All core classes and APG? or just core classes?

Alright, I'm interested. Are psionics allowed? General concept is a son looking to kill the one responsible for his father's death, either a demon lord or a dark diety. Current goals are to amass power. preferably legitimate jobs but the other in a pinch. Not local. Just got to town.

hehe they aught to be if your gm has dementia; hehe

If it's 20 point buy like most games and Aasimar are allowed then I have a character already generated who wants to go beyond being a mere paladin to her deity and become one of her celestial leutenants. One of the people who serve her Deity Iomedae.

Hummm, well I was just planing core books but your character concepts sound interesting and I am advocating doing what YOU want so post what you will (with what book it comes out of) and I will skim it quick like to see if its all good. I have (or have access to) pretty much all the books and if I dont I can always find it as a PDF somewhere I am sure, just try not to mini max TOO much lol.

Let me know preferred levels that you guys want to start out at and what not as well. pretty much this is gonna be run by you guys I just provide the backdrop, encounters, exp, and play rule lawyer

20pt buy sounds fine unless someone wants to argue for 25pt

Overfiend here. This is my Alias and the various different thing people get stuff from is this site: Pathfinder OGC I suggest book marking it. It's saved my skin and given me plenty to work with too, as well as loads of players go on here to choose weapons that aren't core.

Aasimar

Traits

This site has been a life saver for me since I don't need to have the books for the info in my lap and can simply look at the sites here.

Traits:
Child of the Temple

Suspicious

Chose the second trait since she's a paladin that's suspecious of everyone's behavour and goes well with her backstory.

Seems alright to me we will have to see what others make though. I don't want to start out with some crazy party conflict because there is a paladin in the group lol

thanks for the site too, I never knew about it, but then again i never spent a great deal of time looking because I have an extensive set of PDF books

lol same here. I have about ever single 3.5 D&D one ever published.

Aasimar is balanced I believe just like Tiefling. in 3.5 D&D they were ECL 1, however since all the core races have been boosted then now they are equal. Their stats havn't been changed which you can see in 3rd edition Forgotten Realms campaign.

About the Paladin thing, well I'm not too confident since I've been pretty terrible in the past in a RL game due to being put on the spot and not understanding how to be Lawful, though online I believe I could accomplish it due to the extra time given into rp and considering each and every post.

I assume gold will be average? Most people usually have things like average gold and auto full hit points at first level. Average as in defined by class is what I mean.

The website will be very useful since you won't have to scroll through pages and pages of PDFs and can simply type something in the search bar on the page to find what you are looking for. I'm sure it'll make your job 10x easier. :)

Think my character will be one who just entered town since I don't know what this town is we're at. Perhaps this could be the start of her pilgramage.

Just a note, there is a way to gain divinity already in pathfinder. It's doing a punch of trails I believe, but I don't know much about it. It's in the campaign book I'd think. It has been mentioned on the offical Wiki. This is something that'll help you too: Pathfinder Wiki

Yes there is a way to gain divinity, it is the test of the star stone, it actually turns you into a demi-god not a full god. It is actually the way your deity became a god.

I will be using the Pathfinder setting and will be using their citys and what not but I will be starting you off in a home brew corner of the world most likely. (i.e. town/city that is not in pathfinder books) because I am not yet fully familiar with the campaign setting

as for starting gold take the max ammount and subtract, say, 15% im feeling generous. Thats how i usually do HP too, it sucks rolling a 1 at first lvl

Don't worry too much about alignment, I follow it but if you occasionally step out of line im not too worried, if you play LG as chaotic neutral, Lawful Stupid, or grossly violate the paladin code is some way we will have a problem however.

yeah that's how I'd rule the alignment too. Don't worry this character won't be the type to get angry with a member of the law and then thrust her sword through his chest simply on impulse. Like in this society if the person of the law says something she doesn't like, she'll have to let it pass over her.

Hmm...15% off max you say? Okey give me a sec to edit her equipment then.

It shouldn't be difficult for me to keep up, so I'll offer my character idea, playing off of Godelina, provided Overfiend doesn't mind.

Edan Crosier, Cleric of Iomedae (Good, Sun), Anatomist/Sacred Conduit.

Edan grew up a Churchmouse, having parents who worked closely with the church. His mother was a faithful parishioner since the day he was born, and his father was a tradesman who helped expand the church and could always be counted on, should a request come. So it was no surprise when he felt his calling with the church. Dark of hair and eye, he is somewhat of a contrast when he is keeping Godelina company, having realized that someone as driven as she is would need a companion by her side. He may harbor a faint hope for something to develop between them, but practicality keeps his feet on the ground, resolute in his decision that she not have to stand alone in her journeys.

We'll i guess its fine with me if its cool with Overfiend. Equipment, feats, etc?

I guess we are running a good aligned campaign then

Evil slightly mad grin I always did like playing the "bad guy"

Hmm...I like, I like :)

With the new gold I bought a horse too now. Only a light horse and a average one at that, not a war horse, but that's okey. I'm sure I'll be able to buy one sometime. Plus I got a saddle and saddlebags in case we need to carry extra stuff.

Just makes it easier for us to keep everyone in line. Plus Something evil align messes with us the cleric puts up protection from evil, I declare a smite on the evil character and drive my sword into them...oh that's a tastey thought. Later levels the cleric casts Bull's strength on me and then I declare a smite. The damage will be horrid. Not ot mention if we have a arcane spell caster or something to enlarge my character too making her the tank unless we get a fighter in the group or something.

Cool. I'll start putting some crunch to the fluff. If someone were working with the theme we seem to have going, a Celestial Sorcerer or devout rogue would complete the trio.

Or both, id be willing to put up with four for a group like that lol. I have never seen a fully functioning "Good" group there is always someone that wants to play the odd man out and be of questionable alignment.

*EDIT*you guys wanna do fast, mid or slow level up?

Dementia Walker wrote:

My entire first RL group is of questionable alignment. lol.

This sounds like an interesting concept, so I will throw my hat in here. I have a female rogue Ushari Velnokal I would like to use, she has been languishing ever since a PbP she was in died unexpectedly.

Plus it will give DW a chance to torture me in return for what I am doing to him, he he.

I'm going to keep an eye on this thread, *crosses fingers* hopefully you don't have any drops or the like, but if you do, I plan on following the thread and would be more than happy to call dibs on a back up spot

Go ahead and throw an idea into the pot AAremeth, I was just saying three because it is relatively easily manageable. If I like it I would be happy to invite you all to take a trip into my twisted psyche >:D

@Eric lol no you are actually doing far better driving that campaign forward then I am at the current moment. I am still trying to figure out that characters motivations and such, its kinda hard to do in the middle of the desert ;p

Here is Ushari, I believe she will fit in well with this group.

DW, It should be obvious, survival, he he.

I'm all for starting at 1st/2nd lvl, since having a party dynamic figured will come pretty easily. Getting one going beyond the standard roles is hard to do at higher levels beyond the cookiecutter actions, which may not fit the character.

HAHAHA! This is going to be too fun, two pretty young girls that either don't take kindly too or are confused by male advances and a male that is crushing on one of them. cant wait to see if AAremeth posts something.

Dementia Walker wrote:

Lol well this is the DM's world so who knows what might happen. Hell if the guy plays his cards right they both might just slip under the covers with him ;)

Joking, haha. No, I think my character would be more of the one-on-one and one person type, not to mention she only sees him as a friend for the meantime. Seeing where the rping will take us will determin the path.

Remember to post your character idea here so I can ok it Me'mori, after I get Me'mori's character idea I'll wait till tomorrow after noon or so to see if AAremeth is gonna put up an idea. If he doesn't then we will get this party started

This is Graynore. Here is my pitch for a psion.
For the father, all.

Ramar had a happy childhood. He would play in the fields and imagine the day that he would become a noble knight like his father. That changed the day his step mother arrived.

Arusia was an uncommon woman. Eluring and seductive but possessing no quality that Ramar could believe his father would desire. At the summer lunar eclipse, Ramar found the terror that was his stepmother. He came upon her as she completed the ritual that took his father's life. The dark forces at work left an impression upon him that night. While he escaped with his life, he has been on the run ever since.

Ramar now travels from town to town, with his father's sword, learning more of the abilities that awoke that night. He plans to turn the powers upon them all: his stepmother, the other members of the cult, and ultimately the object that possesses his father's soul.

I intentionally left the big baddy unnamed so that it could be determined as part of the plot. I did take a liberty with the sword. I thought about taking some type of ancestral weapon feat if it would be allowed or I would just keep it around. I don't intend to sell it so I hope it is okay.

AAremeth:::

Sticking with the LG concept I would like to offer a Devote follower of Iomedae. He will be an Gnomish summoner that has taken to the following and supporting of the others along the way on their righteous journey. His Eidolon will follow form of Iomedae's theme as well.(if allowed, I will take my summonings with a sun/holy fire theme. such as a celestial eagle might shine with the firey light of the just god. and so forth and so on.)

I am thinking the body of a great hound and the head of an eagle for the eidolon, take a spell trick.

-----------------------
Zale Whitefire was like most other gnomes he had ever encountered, wild, hyper inexcusably curious and unfathomably untamed. Up until the day that Iomedae intervened. She sent one of her minor servants to save the gnome from a nasty pack of thieves, while he was traveling on the road. the beast was tale and lean, with the body of a great hound and the head of an eagle. The beast was nurturing and kind, but sought justice over most things. She told him to hope on her back and she would take him to a place that he should in leave his worldly trappings at the door. He would find his purpose there. Shelllek(the eidolon) stayed with him for the first part of the journey and served as the lantern to Iomedae's guiding light for quite some time. and still does so today. He waits in town, anxiously looking for the one that he should help achieve their noble purpose.

He avoids the bleaching now through his thirst for knowledge about his new god.

-----------------
on second thought, I thought it might be interesting to have a conected back ground but not know each other. Zale has spent his time looking for the one he is supposed to assist on their journey.

My only concern is about the nature of a pbp, I already sincerely hope that Godelina makes it all the way to the end of her tale, but given the end goal I am wondering if we might need to start ourselves out a little bit higher level. making it that much easier to get to that end goal. if not higher ( which is fine with me, I suggest that we take the fast track on xp. which will take care of the same problem and propell us toward the end goal.)

Sefis the Forlorn - Half-Elf Diviner

My Pitch for a half -elf Diviner. :

Sefis the Forlorn - Half-Elf Diviner

ST 10 DX 14 CN 12 IT 18 WS 14 CH 8
Feats: Improved Initiative, Skill Focus: Perception
Skill Points: Spellcraft, Appraise, Linguistics,Arcana, Religion, Nature, Planes
Deity: Nethys
Alignment: True Neutral

Sefis theorizes that Divine Magic and Arcane magic are one and the same...that the Gods who direct the affairs of mortals are false idols - ancient archetypes - residual accumulations of magic from another time and space. Magic itself is a natural phenomena - and nothing more. Those who wield magic fall into the category of those who manipulate it or those whose minds are manipulated by its trasformational power. Sefis is not certain of this....but he intends to uncover the mysteries of magic and develop a viable, unified therory to explain the forces of nature - including magic. Perhaps the stars have something to tell....or perhaps the secret is to be found in the study of the most minute particles. Sefis sought out the gnome Frgala - a gemsmith known for her work with crystal lenses, who he figured might be interested in his theory .

Frgala was inquisitive about Sefis' bold theory, impressed by his power to calculate - and strangley attracted to his lanky, bony, half-elven body - so she accepted the young man into her personal service in exchange for her magical tutelage and the use of her labotory.

Sefis quickly advanced in the magical sciences - especially Divination- as if he was born to the calling. Nevertheless Frgala recently pointed out that in order for him to continue his studies with her as an apprentice, he would need to contribute more than the flighty fancies of his fervent mind. Besides - the kinds of instruments and lenses he would require for his bold experiments would be sure to cost a king's fortune in the end. Sefis will need to acquire piles of cash, crystals and other alchemical materials before even thinking to bring his dreams to fruition with Frgala. And it turns out that Sefis has been useless in the bedroom as well. His depressing attitude has been wearing thin on the naughty gnome. Tired of shacking with the androgynous half-caste, Frgala told him simply to take a hike! Nevertheless - as a token of her professional esteem - if not her affection - Frgala did bequeth two special items upon the morose elf- a small masterwork magnifying lense and a spellbook.

Goals:
1. Find something to eat. The poor elf is Hungry and poor.
2. Get a lucrative job (adventurer?). Make some money. Collect materials for research.
3. Find crystals to build very powerful lenses
4. Unlock the mysteries of Divine magic.
5. Formulate a Unified Theory of Magic.

How do you mean "post the character idea"? I posted it up there, did I miss something?

I think he means create a profile for your character, and add your character sheet to it.

Oh! Yes, most definitely. Working on it now. Do we know in what region we're starting so I know what language to take along with Common(Taldane)?

So far, I've only seen that is going to be a home brew area.

Alright guys, here is the skinny.

Sefis the Forlorn- while your character concept made me laugh and I think it would create some excellent role playing opportunities I think it would also create undue party friction since this is mostly going to be a campaign populated with paladins and clerics of Lawful and or Good alignment. Sorry to say but you are not accepted.

Ramar- The jury is still out on your character idea, while I like the character and background I don't know if the whole dark cult thing would end up taking over the entire campaign. I will let you know sometime tomorrow whether you are accepted or not.

Godelina Evelyn- Accepted of course since you are the one that sorta brought on the whole good campaign thing lol

Me'mori- Accepted, I just have to approve your final character profile. cant wait to see the role playing between you and Godelina.

Ushari Velnokal- Accepted, A rogue is always useful and welcome and I would like to see how one plays a goodly aligned rogue

Zale Whitefire- Accepted I would like to see how your summoner works out since I have had a summoner idea on the back burner forever and would like to see how effective one could be

this post is closed to further applicants to the PbP, thank you everyone I was expecting to spend a few days recruiting not one after noon lol.

Also coming up tomorrow I will expand upon where the campaign will be taking place and all the good stuff. I am thinking that we are going to be using the fast leveling track since as Zale pointed out it is in the nature of PbP to sorta fall apart without a dedicated group and a good DM. I hope that I can be a good enough DM to keep all your attention from waning.

Don't worry too much about finishing the final touches on your characters (like all your languages Me'mori) since some things may or may not be effected by where we start out.

I usually work 8-5 or 9-6 or so, so my busiest posing times are 6-8am and 6-10 or so PM and I usually check every hr or so on my days off unless something really dramatic and rapid fire is going on.

catch ya all tomorrow, feel free to talk to each other about things you want to do, if you want to know each other, etc Ramar, don't be afraid to join in with the planning I am leaning toward accepting you into the PbP so unless something weird happens its all good.

Sweet!

Thank you Walker Dementia for providing me with the venue to create this character. When I saw your post I rushed to create Sefis, and did not take pause to consider some of the other concepts presented. I have since spent some time checking them out. It all looks solid. I might have though of ways to make a character to fit this group...but then there would be no Sefis. I agree that he would have shaped out to be too much of an outcast in this campaign. I already have ideas which will make him more intriguing. Some are more bizarre - some less. I`ll be fleshing them out as I go and hope to see him in a campaign some day.

DW, I like how you announced your campaign.

I wish you all a great adventure.

So you'll make the game and OOC thread when next online then. Awesome.

Character finished.

So, does the group all know eachother at the start? Everyone worships the same diety save me correct?

Ramar wrote:

Well I was playing Ushari as having arrived in town recently, but I can always change that.

OOC thread for brainstorming and the like

Actual story thread

for now feel free to transfer any discussions to the OOC thread, and on the PbP thread just make a single post using your character saying present or something.

we are going to start the story in a small town in Cheliax.

Everyone would have traveled their for their own reasons...

Ramar is there because he found a snippit of information saying that there was some sort of deamon cult (since he is looking for the cult that killed his father) in this town and he wanted to investigate.

The church has asked Godelina and Me'mori to investigate some strange going ons in town.

Ushari and Zale you are gonna have to help me with your reasons (and the ones that I posted above are not set in stone just ideas)

So, yea, since we are done recruiting lets get off the recruitment boards and onto the OOC boards :)

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens Subscriber

Hello -

Don't want to intrude, but I have been reading the pbp thread. If you are ever looking to add one (since it looks like you just lost a player), just let me know if possible. Unless there's another need, I would consider playing either a fighter or sorceror - different origins depending on what preferred. Likely half-elf or elven. If you would like more details, please advise.

I can usually post once or twice a day - although weekends I'm not always around. Anyhow, good luck whatever you choose.

I'll confess that I have soft spot for Saltmarsh, having played the original modules years ago.

Pathfinder Adventure Path, Lost Omens Subscriber

Looks like your well into your scenario so I'm not sure you need a "fifth" at this time, so this just a hello bump in case you change your mind and are checking the thread.

I'm little embarrassed to intrude on the OOC thread for no reason.

Nothing specifically wrong with that. It almost guarantees that if a spot does open near your posting, you'll get called on. :)
