Godfrey is able to find the trail of the goblins again and you all head out towards the marsh. It doesn't take but a few more hours before you find it. This part of the marsh is hard to traverse through and it slows you greatly. Swamp water soon begins to build up over you're shoes and you start to stick in the mud but you continue to trudge forward. About an hour into the swamp you come to a river that drains into Sog's bay.
Anyone who can please make me a knowledge geography or survival check.
DM Mathpro |
being that your not that heavy you don't sink in quite that far but it does impede you more than the others, but I'm sure they'll slow to help you keep up.
Oh I forgot to notice you see tracks of goblins everwhere. You're pretty sure this is a route they travel regularly between their camp(where ever it is) and the ship.
Tanimoto |
I move into the muck. "Eww this is so gross!" I shriek. "Masaru can you carry me please?"
Diplomacy to convince the strong Samurai to carry the damsel in distress:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13 Since I look female and Masaru doesn't know otherwise, I do my best to look as helpless and alluring as possible.
Masaru Haganekaze |
Masaru trudges through the swamp, his hands on the straps of his pack. He moves slowly and offers to carry Kerri on his shoulders as he notices her lagging behind. "Its unfortunate your legs are not longer," he says with a smile. "Let me help you out, I can carry you without it being too much of a burden." He takes a knee in the swamp, offering to carry her up on his shoulders like one would do a child. He was strong of limb and broad of frame enough to endure the extra load.
Kerri Corynian |
Slightly taken aback by Masaru's offer I nod, "Thank-you I happily accept. Long legs would be useful here and I often wonder why I am so short and weak with the gifts the Ancestors have given me. What about Tani asking for help? I don't want to accept help though, if it means others won't get the help they require."
Is it okay for me to call you Tani or would you prefer Tanimoto? Do you know how hard it is talking about Tani, without saying "he" or "she"?!
DM Mathpro |
Go ahead and continue roleplaying this is great guys just want to resolve something.
Godfrey you get a feeling that crossing the river here would be a bigger challenge than you would really want to undertake, especially since some of your party is already struggling with the mucky swamp. You can follow the river further inland if you want and try to cross at a narrower spot or you might get lucky and find a bridge.
Masaru Haganekaze |
"Tanimoto has long legs and needs to get used to rough environs," he said, having been unimpressed at her attempts to persuade him. "I'm already carrying a pack, I don't have the strength to carry someone of her size. Besides, we move a bit swifter than you naturally..." He smiles meekly, not trying to insult the halfling's pride as they are all struggling through the swamp. I take her hand as long as she still consents, hefting her up on his shoulders before trudging along.
Caerwyn Callandriil |
Caerwyn will move along near the rear of the party, keeping an eye an their back trail. Despite the clawing mud he moves along stoically.
Godfrey Warden |
Are there any obvious trails cut through the swamp?
Godfrey continues trudging through the muck in hopes of finding an easy way across attempting to stay towards the tougher ground, particularily where there is grass growing.
Guidance Survival1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 8 + 1 = 21
Kerri Corynian |
Just in case carrying weight becomes an issue, my gear and myself weigh 34 lb all together.
While I am being carried, I whisper into Masaru's ear, "Thank-you for this. I hope that I can repay the favour at some point."
mathpro18 |
It takes you a little while following the river back east but eventually Godfrey finds the trail he's looking for. You also find a bridge over the river. It is a soggy wooden bridge with moss growing on the surface of the blanks. Its also missing a few planks but otherwise looks safe to cross.

Masaru Haganekaze |
Masaru carries her without complaint, only nodding with her words as she spoke of wanting to repay him. [b]"Think nothing of it, there is quicksand in swamps and you'd go under quicker than myself,"[b] he spoke, his tone low as he followed behind Godfrey and Caerwyn. His boots were soaked, his socks wet and every movement was loud as they trudged through the water, trying to stay on dry land when they could. He didn't complain, however, shouldering the small burden on his shoulders willingly and knowing they were better off in him doing so.
Kerri Corynian |
I try to remain perfectly still, so I do not make things harder for Masaru.
Acrobatics : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Trying to remain perfectly still, I un-knowingly tighten my grip on Masaru and realise that I am doing so, so I let go slightly. Only I let go more than I had planned and I fall to the floor with a small thud. Upon hitting my behind on the hard, cold bridge, I let out a quiet, small, girlish noise. "Oww"(It sounds like the "Dad" I want money noise.)
I don't stay down for long as I try to regain my footing and slowly stand up, this time making sure I don't slip on the moss.
Acrobatics : 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Once up, I rub my behind, to try and remove the pain from landing on it as well as get rid of any moss that may be stuck to it.

Acrobatics Check 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Walking across the ice-like bridge, Masaru does well in trying to maintain his balance... As Kerri slips and falls, he offers his hand and pulls her back up onto his shoulders. "Careful," he warned her with a smile, continuing across with a chuckle.
Tanimoto |
After trudging miserably through the swamp, I clench my fist and look sky ward. "This is the kind of stuff Shalelu does on a regular basis. I must learn to endure."
I come to the bridge and begin to to cross. 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
I manage to maintain my balance and continue with the others. "Is it much further Gadfrey?"
DM Mathpro |
Everyone makes it across the bridge with out much trouble except the halfling but she's back safe on Masaru's shoulders.

Encounter:1d100 ⇒ 17
You guys continue along the path for another 45 minutes. Its rather warm in here and the smell of what you hope is swamp gas is starting to become rather heavy in the air but the path remains dry at least. You see all sorts of strange creatures but they don't really seem to take notice of you. Eventually you come to another moss covered bridge. As you approach you see a rather large creature coming up out of the water. It doesn't seem to have noticed you. It is a hairless humanoid that has back-bent dog like legs. Its skin is crisscrossed by a network of visible veins that pulses with each heart beat. Its hideous mouth is split down the middle into tiny grasping claws and blood drips from them. You get the feeling it recently fed on some poor hapless victim.
What do you do?
Kerri Corynian |
I mutter some familiar foreign incantations, "zezhuanth iri letoclo ve gahri nomeno tafiaf. xurwk coi zyak si shilta ti qe ocuirtor."
I keep my hold of Masaru.
I have cast "Reduce Person"
AC increased to 16.
Kerri Corynian |
Seeing as I am Tiny now and take up 1/4 of a square, I can't see it being a problem. I know 4 Tiny characters can share a square with no problem, but GM's ruling if this is okay or not.
Oh and now that I am Tiny, my gear and I only weight : 4 lb.
Kerri Corynian |
Personally I would say it would give a penalty to all Dexterity and Strength checks, including combat ... however seeing as I weight only 4 lb and about 1'6", I don't know if that would still give penalties. That is for you to decide Mathpro.

Perception to notice Tani:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Creature init:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
The creature turns around and glares right at Tani and starts moving towards her. Kerri you're spell goes off and you reduce in size. Seeing that Tani is in danger Masaru charges the large creature. He makes it to the creature and slices into the beast cleanly. Green blood starts to ooze out of the gash created by Masaru's sword. The creature screams out in pain and figuring that its out numbered moves to retreat(full wildraw).
Masaru's charge attack:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
There I think that was a pretty good way to manage this situation. You can either chase after the creature, attack it at range(though its moving pretty quick), or continue on across the bridge
Kerri Corynian |
I look at the fleeing creature, point my hand towards it and mumble some foreign incantations, "zezhuanth iri, nar vhira nomenoi wioti, xurwk sia hatob nar astahi vis!"
Magic Missile : 1d4 ⇒ 4
My icy blue ray of energy strikes the creature in the centre of its back.
Sweet, maximum damage. Sorcerai deal maximum damage!
DM Mathpro |
You guys make your way across the bridge and along the path of the swamp. It begins to get warmer in here as the sun raises over head and it seems to bring the creatures of the swamp to life. Soon you are being bombarded by what sounds like hundreds of frogs, insects, and birds. You continue traveling for another hour and a half along the trail, effortlessly crossing another bridge. Eventually a muddy trail leads up to a swampy lagoon. The open ocean is visible just beyond these shallow waters. An old two-story building, its walls soggy with moss and its roof sagging with age, sits on the lagoon's eastern shore.
The house seems eerily quiet as you approach but you can't ignore the loud hissing nose coming from the side of the house.
I should have a map up later today in the campaign info tab...hope you don't mind cutting off a little role play but I wanted to get things moving a little here. I know Tani will be happy that I did.
