And, for PFS, day job rolls are Craft, Perform, and Profession only. For home brew fun your GM can allow whatever. (I allow Heal and Diplomacy), among a few others. While it doesn't add much gold, if you took a profession skill, go ahead and roll for it because it does add up over time.

Forgive me if this is a dumb and obvious question, but how do we get our chronicle sheets into our hot little hands? Are you emailing them or something? This is my first forum game so I don't know how this works.

I have a couple questions. I think that currently we are in the cave with the bearskin rug, right? Have we already looked in the four igloos? When we entered this area there was a bunch of white that limited our visibility. Does that still exist? If so, does that mean that we don't know about that hedge of ice spears (that's what it looks like to me on the map) around the pool?

Sorry for so many questions.


I'm also still curious why the baddies didn't suffer the visibility issues.

The Bearskin rugs where in 3 of the 4 igloos where Selena was dragged to

the 4th igloo is a 20' pit

yes the white is still limiting

no you do not "Directly" know of the Winter portal on the left hand side of the map though you are pretty sure that the red creature flew off that way

the baddies didn't suffer as they were not affected by the winter portals affect

A winter wolf. A slight cosmetic variation really. The original GM I built the character with had a few ideas of linking the whole thing together later in the story, due to winter wolves being fairly important, symbolic, or whatever. It also made sense for her to have some traits of a winter creature rather than a forest creature (just cosmetic traits in this case though).

So, is this group dead or what? The GM posted on the 12th and then on the 17th. When we started and for most of the adventure he's been pretty regular. Now, its days between posts.

Well, it seems only Quasit and I question anything, and Quasit is keeping it to herself. No one else thought to ask for more information instead of just taking it all at face value? Also, the girl was probably the doll you fought. Selena never saw the doll so she doesn't know it. But no one thought tk mention ig and perhaps give this woman the bittersweet news that the girl was used but now her soul has been laid to rest?

Talk about being total gamers. You'd die in 5 minutes in my games, making assumptions like that.

For me, its not that. The first part is being told by an evil person that there is an evil person that I have to go and defeat. That alone would have turned me away. I would have said no and left. BUT, as its part of the plot, well not much choice there. Same thing here. I personally would have said no, but again, plot.

Honestly, this game has slowed down so much compared to the past that I have really started to go "meh" with it....

Firstly we are asking questions. Bulvi's asking for more details about the pale tower after endearing himself to these people.

Second we're already planning on going to the Pale Tower to close the portal so we'll already be doing the hardest part. Either A they are genuine in which case we'll get some possible useful information or aid of some kind from these people. Or B it's a tral laid for a bunch of random people from Andoran.

Thirdly there's a leap in logic regarding the doll. Possibly correct but there's not nearly enough to jump to conclusions and start telling a scared mother her child is dead. Your character was told we fought a 'sentinel' also described as a 'monster doll' which is only a little less information than we have.

Just because I'm not putting up inner monologues does not mean Bulvi isn't considering his actions. He can try to be the good guy while still obfuscating his intent... it's not like he's gone charging down the road immediately.

I'll bare in mind your GMing style where we wouldn't last five minutes as I'm a total gamer... whatever your meaning for that is.

Ultimately try asking question in character or arguing in character rather than out of character, it will likely be more productive.


Making assumptions. This could just be a side thing.

The idea that we must say us and unquestioningly follow the trail laid before us is what I call "gamerism." It sacrifices our character, roleplay, narrative, and agency for the sake of a script, like playing a video game.

As far as I'm concerned, for a true rp focus (as opposed to storytelling or gamist "kick in the door" focused games), the gm should be ready to have the characters meet their destiny, regardless of their choices, for which their choices matter in terms of how events play out and outcome. I.E. it might be our destiny to face the queen, but whether we win, lose, or join forces with her is still based on our choices. The gm therefore should have "elements" of the story, ready and prepared to drop into whatever circumstances are most appropriate, and the design of an adventure should be designed around that concept.

You also are assuming Evil. With reason perhaps (bad ones but valid ones), but still an assumption. If I told you upfront that Selena was a winter witch and member of the nobility of Irrisen, would you not assume she is evil save for the fact that she is a PC? But does she really seem evil to you, granted we haven't had much chance for a good reading yet, but still, has she done anything evil?

Well I made a reasonably good man who's pretty good at stabbing things. If Bulvi was an investigator he'd probably approach things differently. Sometimes a character will stick inside the lines just because the adventure is lining up with their goals... I didn't make a priest of Razmir.

The local witch in the pale tower is an loyal to Elvanna it seems so yeah she isn't getting the benefit of the doubt. Bulvi was willing to give Selena a chance. He'd probably have been more wary in demeanor but after saying he was glad they wouldn't have to fight it was miscontrued as an invitation and people got uoset sk he backed off and tried to defuse the situation. She's been an asset so far but Bulvi is still keeping an eye on her

Two things.

First, different people have different styles of play. For some people, discovering the GM's story and participating in it are the enjoyable part of the game. For others, the potential for an open world exploration "we can do anything" type experience really excites them. Others just like the diversion of interacting with whatever is before them, maybe it's melee combat, maybe it's spell casting, whatever. I know a RL player who's only goal in our game (we're both PCs in the game) is to run into combat and hit as many things as possible and cause as much damage as possible. For other players, it's all about the social interaction. I'm sure there are numerous other motivations to play.

I will admit that I find at least one of the styles I mentioned above quite distasteful and boring (I won't tell you which one) however, I am completely open to letting different people play the game they way they like and how they enjoy it.

Second, I am intentionally playing Sakitu as naive, easily swayed by emotions, not a deep thinker, overly compassionate, too trusting, etc. If a giant orc, dripping blood from his fangs, came up to her and said nice things to her, she just might be nice to him. This is not the way that I am in real life (me the person) so sometimes I get it wrong.

In any case, I am enjoying this game but I do wish it would move a little faster... :-)

I was making an observation about how play seemed to go on this encounter. It was intended as lighthearted but otherwise neutral comment.

I never meant to imply anything negative.

And playstyle is very complicated, far beyond what most give credit for.

Selena, I forgot to put back in the post that everyone but you would recall it, as for elements of the story ready, I do too a point, however when asking things that are beyond the direct story that is given, I have to dig through the book and it takes a little bit of time when I'm on the road.

Mind you with that said I am trying to balance out a bit more with the RP aspect with the combat, and some sections of this AP are more RP heavy like the next few sections coming up, so not only am I a little slow in responding right now, I have things saved so it can be a little more upbeat then it has been for a while


No worries, I've no problem with keeping track of what Selena does or does not know. I might suck at pbp, but I really am a fairly experienced gm myself.

I'm also probably the least worried about posting speed.

I didn't think anyone would ever think Quasit wasn't talking enough. :)

Just to clarify why Quasit was keeping her thoughts to herself there: (a) she's honestly surprised and confused at the responses she's hearing from others to Nadya's predicament, and so isn't quite sure what to say out loud. (b) I know the GM said that the 'description' of Thora sounded like the girl Quasit saw in the doll house encounter, but that seemed a bit thin for telling this woman that her child was for reals totally dead. At this point it's more in the 'I've got a bad feeling about this' realm. And (c) a lot of what Quasit is processing in that post is her relation to the group, this situation and her own past, not to mention that's she's wounded and feels like curling up and sleeping for a few days. She doesn't feel as loud-mouthed and assertive as she usually might be.

I like to limit the internal monologue posts for this character. I firmly believe that it's always preferable to show, don't tell. But sometimes I like to drop a little Quasit bomb on things, just to give some context on character development. This whole adventure since day one investigating the caravan ambush has been a real life-changing process -- everything she's been doing has been out of character with her past life. Which is the point of a good hero story I think. So I can't resist stepping back and coloring in the corners sometimes. Perhaps the most recent choice was not a good one. Live and learn.

I try to consider every post from the perspective of what is the most likely way this person would respond to what's happening around her, and I try to be as honest as I can be in that process. That's the fun. Sometimes it helps the game and the story, sometimes it doesn't. The important thing from a creativity standpoint is that honesty.

At any rate, now that the NOT AT ALL SUSPICIOUS forlarren has wandered into our midst, Quasit is even less likely to discuss Nadya's child or their reasons for being in Irrissen, so I guess the point is moot now.


Well, if Quasit had let Selena know, Selena would've healed her, though Selena wouldn't have noticed unless very obvious. So, if you want, you can consider me as having healed you before now. If so, let me know so I can mark it off from spells per day.

Kind of funny. This is the first time I've had being a noble hinder the chase. It is an interesting change of pace though. For once, I'm feeling the weight of responsibility.

I'd like to buy her some gear, now that we're in a town. Do we purchase based off the money on our last chronicle sheet, or based off what we have acquired in game?

Are we allowed to spend Prestige Points, as we do in Organized Play?

I'd like to get a Wand of CLW, preferably with prestige, but with gold if I must. I'm also interested in looking for a Cloak of Resistance +1. Let me know how you want to handle such things. I'm happy to role-play through an encounter with NPCs if you wish, and I'm willing to take the interaction to private email to avoid bogging down the game, if you like.

For his third level feat I am taking Unimpeachable Honor as I don't want him running around power attacking all of his allies effectively with one little spell!

Taking off the armoured kilt as he has armour training now, the extra movement is better than a lone point of AC especially if he is the only one in the party moving at that pace.
