Her second flame spell nowhere near as effective as her earlier one, Cladissa has reason to think she made a mistake sending Nyugusk off to assist Grommuk when the carpet of bugs engulf her. The stinging and biting of the centipedes sends poison burning into her veins, causing her joints to stiffen and ache fiercely. Thankfully, Nyugusk turns his attention back to her plight. She flinches as the burning liquid splashes around and on her. She runs away from the mass of bugs to the center of the chamber patting the smoking spots on her.

Trying to ready herself against another attack by the centipedes, she sticks a hand in a pouch and grips a small pearl within. Drawing the energy from it, once again her mind comes up with the fiery incantation.

Round 4

Imrizade stands there stunned, but appears to be recovering quickly.

The eagles advance and continue harassing the remaining zombie as Argor slips into the next chamber under the cover of his invisibility spell. He sees the odd scene of Lady Blackrose, as well as the monster in the room with her. He moves past to the opposite wall and tries to come to terms with what is going on here. All that he can figure out is that this is the gate pictured in the sketch on the piece of parchment they found earlier in the scriptorium. In hindsight, perhaps taking the time to properly translate the sheet would have been wise.

Hrimnagel sees a zombie come to his side of the curtain, so he hurls his last magic stone after a quick prayer to Count Ranalc. The stone makes a satisfying crunch into its head, killing it. The possessed sorceress's head snaps towards Hrimnagel, and she stares at him with hate filling her empty black eyes.

Nyugusk bellows with delight as the zombies start to fall, but then looks back to see Cladissa now engulfed in the swarm. Nyugusk draws another flask of alchemist's fire as he hustles back over toward the cat-woman, and (with the help of her fortune) manages to hit a large section of them, splashes some onto Cladissa as well. The fire is enough to disperse the already greatly reduced swarm. The remaining centipedes scatter and head for the cracks in the walls and floor.

The stinging and biting of the centipedes sends poison burning into her veins, causing her joints to stiffen and ache fiercely. Thankfully, Nyugusk turns his attention back to her plight. Grommuk charges through the curtain with another bellow, right into the waiting tendrils of the Musk Creeper. The plant lashes out at him with a long tendril, but the orc slaps it aside. He continues forward until he reaches it, and leaps into it with a flying side kick. The plant bends out of the way just in time for Grommuk to fall painfully on his hip with an orcish curse. The brawler scrambles quickly back to his feet.

The musk creeper now has a new victim close at hand, an aggressive one at that. It wriggles back from Grommuk a ways, and then blasts him in the face with a burst of pollen. Grummok closes his mouth and ducks most of the blast. It doesn't seem to do him any harm.

Begin Round 5

Imrizade steps back against the wall, dropping her rapier. She draws a scroll and quickly chants its ancient Osiriani magic. A field of rubbery black tentacles burrows up from the floor, cracking the stone and lashing about wildly. The giant molluskoid limbs seek Cladissa and Grommuk. Both the brawler and the witch find themselves caught tightly in the spell's rubbery grip, and the eagles fare no better. One of the celestial birds is crushed outright, while another is staggered. Grommuk looks like he's barely standing (also staggered at 0 HP).

Grommuk struggles with all his strength to escape the tentacles. He manages to slip free and totter to the edge of the tentacle field. But he begins bleeding badly from his many wounds.

Grommuk howls in primate fury at the canister. How dare it not break the first time he hit it? The huge orc pivots, twirling on one heel in a momentum-building rotation. "I...SAID...SMASH!" he growls as the spin completes, bringing his full weight to bear in another hammer blow. The cannister explodes, splattering ancient grey matter across the room.

From within the cylinder, a ghostly image of a man garbed in ancient Osiriani wizard robes emerges. The smoky image looks about angrily, before being sucked away into nothingness with a look of horror on its face. The fleshy umbilicals connected to Imrizade detach with several popping noises and suck back towards the portal, waving about madly as they shrivel. The portal itself begins to twist and shudder. The stone of the archway cracks as the Gate of Beyond begins to tear itself apart.

Well, that's essentially the end of the scenario. So I'm going to post the ending and move into downtime for RP/Purchases/retraining/whatever.

Imrizade is bound firmly by Grommuk and Nyugusk and then awoken. She seems confused at first, and then her memories return. She's back to her normal self, and very grateful to be rescued. Apparently, when Grommuk destroyed the ancient aberrant sorcerer Kubburum Ishmedagan, the Gate of Beyond was demolished and Imrizade was freed from his control.

She still remains...changed from the experience however. Her sorcerous bloodline has changed to that of one with aberrant heritage. For her rescue the Freaks earn the gratitude of Nigel Aldain, the powerful Blakros family, and Imrizade herself, who happily turns over the Osirian artifacts she collected, and grants the Pathfinder Society unrestricted access to the Blakros family archives.

When they return to the Grand Lodge to make their report, Adril Hestram is extremely pleased. "I knew I could count on yehs! You queer bastards are fast becoming my go to thing for local jobs. You done well as I expected. Here's yer reward!" The burly ulfen Venture Captain hefts several unusually large and heavy purses across the table of the meeting room. "Enjoy some R&R. We'll call again when we need yehs."

Everyone gets 3,172 GP, and 4 fame.
Downtime Weeks: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Feel free to react to the above, and go about your downtime business now. I'll give a couple days as normal, more if RP is heavy.

Grommuk takes his purse happily. "I'm hungry!" he announces, before tromping off into the city. He returns to the manor the next afternoon, wearing a new belt and looking very full and hung over. The orc is filthy as he stumbles up to his room, goes in and slams the door.

Argor thanks the man, then heads over to another office briefly before searching out the Scroll Master at the Grand Lodge. He makes a few purchases before returning to the Manor and heading into the library for several hours.

That night, as he sleeps, he is awoken with the ever familiarizing sensation of the serum. He bolts up quickly as the pain begins to grow at the base of his skull, and he slams his eyelids shut as he begins to concentrate.

Alright you damned serum, it's time that I became the master to you, and not the other way around...

He felt the pain grow sharply, but he grits his teeth and continues to maintain his focus. For several excruciating minutes, the mage fought against the agony burning through his cranium. It felt like a thousand beetles were eating away at his brain, but after some time, the pain finally subsided, and Argor's black eyes flared open wide as he was finally enlightened. His black eyes slowly began to gain color, before beginning to glow blue with arcane energy.

He slowly felt his skin soften back to it's normal texture. He took off his gloves and ran his hand over it's surface, which no longer felt rigid and insect like. He tested it by flicking his finger at it, and was pleased to note that a faint field of arcane energy now lingered there passively, acting as a sort of shielding. He grinned as he stood and walked over to the mirror and looked at his old self once again.

Arctyryx lands next to him on the top of the dresser and looks at him nervously. "Everything okay, boss?"

"Yes, Arctyryx," Argor replied as he feels his face again for the first time in months. "everything is perfect."

Arctyryx cannot help but tremble as a sadistic looking grin forms on his master's face...

The next morning, he resumes his work in the library before the others can awaken. Just before dinnertime, he sends Ms. LeGrand to ask everyone to join him in the den, including the staff.

"I have looked into our stores and have determined that it is about time we replenish our supplies, as well as renew our contracts with our fine staff. As you all may already know, I have taken on Ms. LeGrand as my apprentice and am handling her payment separately. As for the rest, I trust our previously agreed upon arrangement will suffice?"

Jannicke will be continuing her work on my behalf, generating 9 gp for this week.
Also, spending 4 of my Prestige to gain the Master of Trade title, as well as another 1 to become an Initiate into the Arcanamirium. Going to wait to see how much time joining the organization takes before posting the rest of my Downtime activities.

Downtime Day 2

A day after Argor submits an application to the Arcanamirium a messenger arrives at the manor. He is let in by Mrs. Fecht and brought to the parlor to wait. She fetches Argor saying, "There's someone here to see you, sir."

Argor strides forth from the study, his glowing blue eyes appraising his guest and says, "Greetings sir. How may I be of service?"

"Are you Argor Constantine?" the messenger asks. After receiving confirmation he continues. "Your application has been received by the Arcanamirium. You are to be considered for candidacy. Please come to campus at your convenience and make your way to the testing center. Come prepared to display your most powerful magic. You will be assessed and placed in a program appropriate to your needs."

Argor nods and turns his head back into the doorway of the library. He wills his staff to float to his hand and says, "Come along, Arctyryx."

As he leaves, he says, "Look after things here while I am gone, if you would, Jannicke?"

Jannicke nods in affirmative, thought Mrs. Fecht looks a little peeved. I'm the one what does that, the servant thinks to herself.

The messenger stands. "If you are ready now then you may follow me back to the campus," he says to Argor. The man leads Argor north through the Foreign Quarter, and into the heart of the Wise Quarter. Once at the campus the messenger points Argor in the right direction and makes his excuses.

After some bureaucratic rigamarole, Argor is lead to a testing area and told to demonstrate his magical skills as he sees fit. A panel of several middle aged spellcasters observe him from a side room. The area is a plain stone chamber roughly fifty foot on a side. The scars of past candidates attempts to impress the judges litter the walls and floor.

Argor enters and gives a polite bow to his observers. He then goes through the incantation to summon a ball of flame to his side a safe distance away from himself and anything else, then turns to face his those evaluating him.

"First, I would like to say thank you for inviting me here for this evaluation. I understand that your time as instructors and administrators is precious, so I will try to make this demonstration concise. You wish to appraise my current ability to control the arcane energies around us, and as such, I present to you a spell I have recently mastered. It isn't an elaborate or world changing incantation, but it is effective at what it does. Personally, I prefer spells of summoning and conjuration over others, but am not blinded to the utility of all magic."

He then strides towards them a few paces as he continues. "However, my true power lies in my understanding of how the arcane energies around us flows and ebbs. I have a keen insight into these matters, and for several months now have developed a personal client base of people seeking my advice on a variety of topics in this field. Also, I have used my capabilities to great effect around the city on missions on behalf of the Pathfinder Society. If you would like, I could provide you a list of references to some who would be more than grateful to vouch on my behalf in those matters."

He stops after having only taken 5 steps forward, and concludes, "If you must insist, I can provide further demonstration of my spellcasting capabilities. I can assure you that I can cast several more spells of this quality yet, but I trust you would all agree that to expend one's full repertoire of magic, even in a city such as this, would be foolish and unwise for any wizard. As safe as it may be, I can assure you that there are threats lurking about in surprising places. Several of which I have dealt with personally."

The judges nod after Argor finishes speaking, and motion him to leave. An attendant takes him to another room where he is asked to wait. after several minutes of waiting on one of the comfortable sofas, he is approached by a brunette woman in professional looking robes. "Mister Constantine, you've been provisionally accepted to the Arcanamirium as a Journeyman. Congratulations! You'll need to submit a thesis proposal to a counselor of the college of your choice, and they will put you in contact with an appropriate maven to oversee your progress. You may either pay tuition fees out of pocket, or teach apprentice classes to earn your tuition. We prefer that you take the latter course of action, as it tends to produce more well rounded graduates. Do you have any questions for me?"

Cladissa finds the changes to Imrizade fascinating, and offers her friendship, if she'll have it. Going through her own changes to her core being, she'll extend a sympathetic ear to the newly abberant sorcerer. While not exactly excited to hang around the Blakros Museum, Cladissa will help with the sorting and cataloguing of the Osirian artifacts as well. Remembering her own encounter with an Osirian object (which brought Cole to her), she asks Imrizade about her own exploits and adventures.

Imrizade has mainly spent time delving ruins in Osirion. She'd made many trips there, and has been adventuring for a couple of years. During her most recent trip she came across the canister containing the foul sorcerer's essence and was possessed by him. She returned and activated the gate, which warped the basement and herself and unleashed all the creatures that the Pathfinder's had cleared from the museum's basement. Imrizade is happy to make friends with Cladissa. She invites Cladissa to come to the Blakros estate for tea one afternoon.

Argos smiles politely back to the woman. Though he had never doubted his acceptance, he attempted to appear extremely pleased at the news.

"Thank you, madam. I would prefer the latter option as well. I shall take some time to consider an appropriate thesis of study and submit it before the weeks end. However my contractual obligations to the Pathfinder Society does at times require me to lend them aid, it is an infrequent nuisance that should not detract from my responsibilities here."

He then returns to his library and begins considering an appropriate topic. After a few hours, he settles on "Creatures of the Outer Planes: Diversifying One's Repertoire, Enhancing Control, and Calling Prime Subjects."

He continues to detail the goals and methods of his thesis, then rolls it up in a scroll and hands it to Arctyryx, instructing him to deliver it directly to the woman he spoke with earlier.

Cladissa graciously accepts. She visits the estate promptly, wearing one of her finer catfolk gowns while Cole prowls along beside her. Not really sure if she should bring something, she finally decides on a nice bottle of Galtan burgundy.

She marvels in awe at the opulence of the estate, as her tail swishes back and forth. She acts a bit chagrined when she offers the bottle, suddenly aware it likely is several steps lower than what Imrizade's used to. Umm, here. It's not the finest wine you'd find, but the vineyards where this wine comes from was viewable from my window when I lived in Galt, she explains. Changing the subject quickly, she asks, How are you doing?

Argor

Arctyryx returns some time later with a reply saying that the process will take some time. They will inform you when they've found an appropriate mentor for you.

Cladissa

The estate is indeed as lavish as any other Cladissa has seen. It's in the Ivy District, close to Greydog Manor where the group had their adventure with the ulfen captain. The Blakros estate is decorated with artifacts from all around the Innear Sea region and beyond. Imrizade meets Cladissa in one of the gardens. The garden is awash in the colors of late summer blooms, and shaded by several exotic trees. The hostess smiles at the gift of wine. "It's lovely, thank you," Imrizade says. When Cladissa asks after her well being Imrizade replies, "Well enough I suppose. I'm still coming to terms with what happened. It was so..." she trails off, becoming visibly upset. "I had horrible nightmares of alien things last night. I fear I will never sleep peacefully again."

Also, with all the RP flying around, don't forget Argor's house meeting to collect rent up above. No one has responded yet.

I won't forget.

Cladissa nods with a face filled with concern. Give it time, she tries to reassure her.

Cole takes this moment to rub up against Imrizade's legs. Cladissa jumps at the opportunity to change subjects. This is Cole, she says as she scoops him up. He eyes her languidly, but purrs anyway. He's my familiar. I wonder sometimes if he has a connection to Osirion. Don't they sometimes worship cats? She makes a show of holding her hands over Cole's ears and whispering, as if she didn't want him to hear that last part.
