The roof is flat, and featureless. It's covered in tarred tiles. Walking to the back of the building, Hrimnagel can see that there is no back door, or any rear windows.

Hrimnagel examines the roof for way to potentially peel away a few tiles to climb inside. If too difficult, he'll climb back down and use stone shape to disconnect the locking mechanism of the door with the stone of building.

I will be away from my keyboard for awhile after this post. So go with whatever seems appropriate to keep things moving. Cheers

Unfortunately, the walls are wooden.

Nyugusk told me to DMPC him.

As Hrimnagel goes about investigating the structure, Nyugusk slips his thieves' tools from his belt pouch. Using Cladissa, Grommuk and Argor as a human wall, the alchemist slides his picks into the lock and goes to work.

It takes him nearly half a minute to get the lock, apparently he's out of practice. Finally just as the group is beginning to become conspicuous there is a click and the door pops open.

Pildapush’s Chattel is tastefully appointed: colorful Katapeshi rugs adorn the stone floor, while water trickles gently from a decorative, mosaic fountain. Simple rosewood chairs surround a round table through which the shiny top of a hookah pokes, one braided and ebony-tipped smoking arm per chair. Beyond stands a large, ornate mahogany desk. Two man-sized oval cages, bolted to the stone floor, sit behind the desk.

Pardu Pildapush, a middle-aged Vudrani man, sits behind his large, mahogany desk reviewing his accounts. He looks up in sharp surprise. Nyugusk steps into the room, and motions the others to come inside. "Hurry guys," he says.

Argor slips inside and says, "Greetings sir. Apologies for intruding on your place of business while you are closed, but we are in search of someone and trust that you are precisely the expert we need to be dealing with. A woman of noble bearing, answers to the name Lady Anilah. Your cooperation in this endeavor would be very much appreciated, and any assistance you are willing to provide in her recovery would be well noted."

"Ah! So that's what this is about. Yes, I'll freely admit that I bought and sold her." he says, looking up from his records. The two cages behind his desk are occupied by a teenage boy and girl, both cower in silence. "I had no idea who she was — I swear it!" he says throwing up his hands. "Once I found out, I was mortified. I sold the Grand Ambassador’s wife to a Katapeshi slave ship in the docks called the No Return. I have no idea where it is though, I'm sorry. Please, I'm just a business man, I don't want any trouble."

"Thank you. However, I would very much appreciate it if you would be willing to divulge any further information you have regarding the owner of this ship, and why they had such a keen interest in the purchase of this slave in particular."

"Not trouble. Just business." Grommuk begins, but the aggravation in his voice is evident. All of the slaves on they passed on the way here were out in the open, under lock and key and watch. Here in this room, away from the prying eyes of the street, however, was a different story altogether. The orc doesn't act yet, but his tensing broadcasts what's bound to happen eventually to the other Pathfinders.

Argor sighs, "You and I both know that you have more knowledge on this subject than what you are letting on. Let us resume with being completely honest with each other. I have little concern with your business here, nor do I seek to cause you any trouble in it's operation. In fact, I am even considering purchasing the two specimens you have there, should the price be agreeable. However, if you continue to hold information back I will not only be forced to resort to more barbaric means of obtaining said information," he gestures to the half-orcs in their company, "but also I would have to have words with the authorities regarding what I have learned here today. So, how about we avoid the unpleasant business that neither of us have an interest in and get back to polite and professional dealings that would prove mutually beneficial?"

Cladissa inhales, studying the scents in the room.

The room is fairly typical for slaver's place of business, Hrimnagel doesn't notice anything unusual. Cladissa can smell the slaver and his products but no other living creatures, these mix with the scents of dirt, wood, sweat, etc that make up the building.

The slaver wring his hands. He can tell that things are going to get messy if he doesn't fess up, and Argor is so reasonable. "Fine, fine. I will tell you everything I know, though by doing so I put myself at risk. A Taldan spy named Renmil Emprey hired that grit head Frerik to capture the woman and sell her to me. I also know that the captain of the No Return is a gnoll named Gnarl Bonegather. I swear on Abadar's holy coin sack, that's all I know!" The slaver stands up. "These two slave are already sold, they are awaiting pickup. Now, please, leave my shop or I will call the guards!"

Again, in case it's not clear in anyone's mind. Slavery = TOTALLY LEGAL in Absalom. It's just selling nobles that's a crime (a relatively minor one). Breaking and entering = not legal. I would urge you not to forget what happened last time you guys got caught doing something illegal.

After making sure that Grommuk understands, Nyugusk turns to follow Argor to the No Return.

Orcish:
Argor's right, you know (even if he doesn't know an orc from a half-orc). This man is filth, but he has the power of the law behind him. If we gather evidence that he sold a noble into slavery, we may be able to get him shut down...but attacking now will only get us in jail...and you have bigger things in store for you than being a captive again.

For the record: Argor never actually verbalized the phrase "half-orc."

The Pathfinders make their way to the Docks and arrive in late afternoon. As usual for any time of day, the docks are crowded with sailors, merchants, porters, whores and more all plying their various trades. After some time spent asking around, they get directions to the berth of the No Return. It's apparently in front of an inn called the Sodden Sailor.

The Freaks make their way there, a small bubble forming in the crowd around them due to their unusual and dangerous appearance. Soon they see the sign for the Sodden Sailor, across the street is a ship. Capped by a bloody-mouthed dragon ram and carrying a 15-foot fighting tower around her mast, the lateen rigged Katapeshi slave galley, No Return, floats dockside, tethered by four mooring lines. She’s 130 feet long and 20 feet wide, her deck nearly level with the dock, with crew access across three gangplanks: a wide plank mid-deck, and two narrow planks fore and aft.

Do we want to check out the tavern first, or go straight for the ship? Cladissa asks, while staying wary.

"The Lady will most likely be on board to keep her secreted away, so that should be our primary target," Argor says as he moves along in the middle of the group towards the ships. Nyugusk glances at the others. "I'm sure we'll attract attention if we dally out here too long.

"Perhaps most of us keep walking and stop up the street a bit, while Hrim sees how far into the ship he can safely scout?"

Actually no, he honestly has some respect for Nyugusk, but is fully aware of the terrifying and intimidating visage you cut, so he has no qualms using it to his advantage.

The group of Freaks continues to walk down the docks a ways, approaching the inn and the ship. The ship is alive with crew going about their work. It appears to be a typical slaver's crew, full of sailors from the less good-aligned humanoid and monstrous humanoid races, and salty looking Keleshites. As the group nears the ship, a series of sharp whistles ring out from the crowd. Two halflings with bows pop up over the rim of the Sodden Sailor's roof, and begin to fire on the Pathfinders!

Round 1

Argor leers at the apparent assassins that have launched their ambush on them. He quickly removes his components for a summoning, and begins the incantation.

Grommuk attempts to backhand the nearest halfling, but only succeeds in splintering a significant chunk of the nearby barrel.

Hrimnagel stealthily moves to provide a flank for his half-orc friend and takes out his longbow. He hold up his gauntlet menacingly to the halfling assassin.

Cladissa's eyes flash as she turns to the attacker on her flank. She glares at him as she turns his luck against him. Despite the suddenness of the attack, she laughs madly.

When the shadowy deep gnome appears behind the assassin, distracting him, Nyugusk wastes no time ripping into the halfling with his tusks and claws. He bites its head off in a single gulp, spitting the mangled halfling skull onto the dock. Then he steps between Cladissa and Grommuk to slice open the other nearby halfling with his claws. He leaves the would-be assassin holding several bloody loops of his own guts and looking shocked.

The halfling close to the group flips backward into a somersault, trying to get back to the rest of his gang. He's not fast enough for the Freaks however. Nyugusk bites his leg, and Grommuk reaches out quick as a viper to grab the other leg. Together they tear the halfling into two bloody chunks with little effort.

The slavers on the No Return have all stopped working and are watching the fighting, cheering and whooping at the sight of blood. The crowd on the docks are going crazy, shoving and slamming into each other as they rush to escape the violence.

The two other halfling knifers, seeing how easily their companions are dispatched dry out in sorrow and rage! They retreat, taking up a defensive position behind one of the barrels.

The two halflings on the roof shout, "No!" and fire their shortbows at the deadly alchemist.

Argor concludes his summon once he steps behind the barrel nearby for some cover. Simultaneously, four small portals open and the familiar cry of celestial eagles rings out over the chaos on the docks. He folds his arms into his robes and kneels down behind the barrel, making sure to scan his surroundings for any other signs of assailants, especially from anyone on board the No Return.

Meanwhile, his summoned eagles rain all sorts of taloned terror down upon the halflings atop The Sodden Sailor Inn, their cries of pain and anguish adding to the horrific scene.

Nyugusk grabs the one before him by the shirt.

Scowling, he says "OK then, if you want to live, speak quickly. Make yourselves very, very useful!"

"What do you want to know?!" the apparent leader asks.

We gather together with them -- making sure none try to run -- and ask, "First off, who're you working for? And why did you just try to kill us?"

Cladissa doesn't say anything, but stays close and keeps an eye on the docked ship. If there is time, she draws the wand of infernal healing from Argor's person and uses it on Nyugusk, then Grommuk.

Hrimnagel pops in and out of the shadows unsettling the halflings to assist in the intimidation.

Hrimnagel aid another: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Nyugusk aid another: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Argor aid another: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (17) - 1 = 16
Cladissa aid another: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Grommuk Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

32 total intimidate.

The general freakishness of the Pathfinders seems to be putting the halflings on edge, and they are clearly terrified. When Grommuk lumbers up, bits of halfling skull and blood still dripping from his massive mits, the would-be assassins break completely.

The leader holds out his hands in a placating defensive gesture. “We just work for the Vudrani — we didn’t know he was sellin’ nobles. That Renmil fellow knew, though. He knew when he told Fredrik to grab her. I think he works for Taldor."

"Please, Pildapush freed us from slavery, and he pays us well. There was nothing personal here, just loyalty and business. If you let us go we'll leave town and never trouble anyone again."

"So," Argor says, "the scum couldn't honor a perfectly good agreement, and tried to kill us. I suppose we will have to pay him another visit after this is all said and done."

Sense Motive: 1d20 ⇒ 5

"Very well. Be gone, and do not let me see any of your faces again, or else I will deposit your sorry souls in a demiplane I happen to know about that a Balor resides in."

He then turns towards the ship, and says to his fellow Pathfinders, "We should get aboard before it decides to set sail with it's prize."

Grommuk looks to the others, then to the ship. "Swim to ship, climb up back?" He points towards the rear of the vessel, as if it were necessary to get his point across.

Cladissa shakes her head vehemently. No water for me. No swimming. I'll take the ramp.

Argor hangs his head and pinches the bridge of his nose between his fingers.

I knew the oaf was an ignoramus, but is he seriously so dimwitted as to think that the people clearly watching us from on board wouldn't notice that type of subterfuge at this juncture?

"Grommuk, just...just lead the way up the ramp."

Someone want to hit me with an infernal healing before we progress? So I don't go in half dead, purease, thankee!

Going to activate a use of Martial Maneuvers (or whatever it's called, I forget) to acquire Cleave for 1 minute as we crest the ramp.

Grommuk nods at the wizard's words, not terribly crestfallen at the prospect of not having to swim in the offal-choked waters that surround the harbor. Instead, he strides nonchalantly up towards the deck of the ship. As soon as he draws any notice or noteworthy attention, he calls out loudly and angrily "Give noble-slave-lady now! Stop breaking law, or Grommuk start breaking everything!"

I'm going to use my powers of divination to predict they attack!

Standard: Ready an Action: If enemies attack, wait until a second enemy approaches and then Cleave the pair.

Power Attack/Cleave: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 - 2 = 18
> Damage: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (4, 5) + 11 = 20

Power Attack/Cleave: 1d20 + 7 - 2 ⇒ (12) + 7 - 2 = 17
> Damage: 2d6 + 11 ⇒ (4, 6) + 11 = 21

Cladissa hit you and Nyugusk with a charge each.
