"The evil thing, you remember?" he whispers almost silently toward Surubi. Then he turns his head toward Brennan and whispers some more "When we attack I go left, you go right."

He steps into the room to see who's talking. "Frankly, anything of value. And as for disrupting the dead - it seemed like they were not really resting. And not dead enough." he says calmly.

"Who are you?" he adds.

It's clear that the voice originates from the sandstone statue in the middle of the courtyard, the mouth of the beautifully carved female figure moving as it speaks. "Not who am I. I am no who, I am the spirit of this house. I have been born of the violence caused within. So you are here admitting greed as your motive, while another claims some greater purpose? Which of you speaks the truth?"

Gabriel:
There is no doubt that whatever the voice or statue may be, it is definitely not the spirit of the house, and the lie is a little crude and simple.

Surubi nocks an arrow, holding her bow ready--but not yet aimed at anything. "There is truth in both their statements. ARRGGH! Just lost a long post. Rewriting a crappy one.

Before anything else, everyone except Chephren must make a DC 14 Will save or fall asleep as per the spell Sleep.

The creature is almost pleased that Gabriel attacked it. The statue form melts away into a medusa-like form full of tentacles and a wicked mouth full of sharp teeth.

Initiative:
Brennan 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
Chephren 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18

Okay, even with a messageboard search, I can't find any definitive rules on auras. I think Chephren has to make a save against the aura as soon as he enters. In this case, I'll rule it as ending your turn in it.

Chephren rushes in around the corner, and swings his flail at the statue turned vicious monster. He smacks the shifting sandstone creature with his flail, and a burst of sand and rock fly from the thing.

As the sand from Chephren's swing fills the air, it lands on the priest, who soon succumbs to the magical effect that has struck most of the others. Brennan is unable to act in his own slumber, leaving Gabriel, who shrugged of the effect, to face the creature.

Gabriel steps to the side, hoping to count on Chephren's aid, but the man has just sunk to the floor in slumber. Instead, he strikes out on his own, smacking the statue creature.

Malik retains enough of his senses to shake off the effects of the creature's sleep sand. He moves across the archway, but peeks around the edge for a clear view, and lobs a ball of acid at the creature. The ball hits, and there is a sign of melted sand at the point of impact.

You didn't say it, you didn't do it.

Gabriel, Fighting defensively can only be combined with an attack, but total defense is only a standard action (although I keep thinking it is full-round). However, I would have to say actively waking someone from magical slumber would be at least a move action. So, as long as you don't move more than a free 5' step, you may wake and total defense.

Gabriel takes the creature's absence as an opportunity to rouse the slumbering members of the party. He moves over and gives Chephren a sharp rap with his boot, causing the man to wake.

Following his advice and decision, Malik continued around the outside of the courtyard, toward Brennan. When he arrived, he shook the man, and offered a few taps to the cheek until he stirred.

As they wake the others, the sand creature pops up out of the spot Gabriel just left, and takes another swing at the one that has proved to be the most troublesome. Its limbs flail wildly at the Pharasmin, but don't even come near the man, almost as if it was blinded by its own miasma of sand.

Brennan, woken by Malik, springs into action, getting up and moving into the fight. He finds a way to keep the slumber off of him.

Gabriel once again hits the thing, proving a welcome addition to the team just by his performance in this fight alone. The creature truly looks frustrated by his presence.

Yes, I've been ruling the aura save at the end. I can't find an official rule for it.

Chephren rises and grabs his weapon, taking a step toward the creature. He is finally able to steel himself against the effects of the thing's sandy miasma.

Surubi steps back, trying to exit the cloud, while firing two arrows at the returned thing. She fires recklessly and hastily, launching them off into the open balcony of the second floor.

Gabriel, the splash from Brennan's Acid caused 1 damage to you, and woke you. I took Malik's turn, but will wait on the enemy until after you go.

Brennan steps back away from the thing and breaks a vial of thrown acid against its semi-solid exterior. The acid burns, but not a lot, yet it sprays the area surrounding the monster, landing on the helpless Gabriel lying asleep beside it. The burn of the acid wakes him.

Malik, from the cover of his corner, fires a dart of conjured acid. The acid dart hits the creature, burning and pitting much like his previous acidic attacks, and Brennan's recent one.
