Surubi, I'm not sure what all you took from the thugs (unclear on what the "various extras" are as far as tracking gear/loot on the spreadsheet). I added all of Chephren's gear as well as the thugs', and ended up filling in the rest of your character's gear, just so I knew the total.
Aardvark DM |
Yodi, your profile says you have a +5 init, but I'm guessing that was a holdover from the original character, as I couldn't find where the bonus came from.
Aardvark DM |
@Yodi. Okay, I somehow missed it in the profile. I was even looking for it (since there was a 4 point difference), but still missed the feat. So, all it really does is move you up ahead of Brennan.

I just want to apologize for my inactivity these last two days, as it appears that the site itself is completely unreachable only during the entire 8-12 hour chunk of time that I was available to post, while they deal with whatever issues they are having.
This also applies to FreakyFlyingElf21 (my coworker)

I think everyone had that problem, I couldn't reach the site to post either.

Sorry for slow posting; we're (probably) buying a house and researching it is eating my time like crazy.

Adding this for clarity across all my games, as the question came up in another. I will be adding it to the house rules.
Okay, not sure where all I've mentioned it, as I know I might have touched on it in at least one of my games. I really should add it to the house rules.
I put a LOT of stock in the identification of treasure, to include the appraise skill. The methods exist, and should serve some purpose. RAW you may also ID potions with a perception check, and Scrolls with a Spellcraft. I personally, even as a player, dislike the handing out of a list of fully identified treasure.
By RAW, it takes a DC 20 appraise to determine the value of a 'common' item. Yet there is no real clarification of what equates to 'common'.
The way I do Appraise is based on the value of the item. The DC is based on the number of whole numbers in the real value.
For example:
1-9 gp items = DC 5
10-99 gp items = DC 10
100-999 gp items = DC 15
1,000-9,999 gp items = DC 20
Etc...
Keeping to RAW, if you beat it by 5 or more, you determine if it's magical.
If you fail by less than 5, I randomly determine the value up to +/- 20%
If you fail by 5 or more, I randomly determine the value up to +/- 80%
Common weapons, armor, and the adventuring gear portion of the CRB do not need to be identified. However, special materials items (Mithril, Silver, Adamantine, etc...), stuff like Alchemical items (Acid, Alchemist's Fire, Hol/Unholy Water, etc...), and Masterwork quality gear (to include tools), needs to be identified to be recognized as such.
This all may seem like a hassle, but I still think it's better than the two alternatives...
Knowing the value of everything automatically and making all the skills and spells useless
-or-
A DC 20 to determine the value of a common item. Longswords are pretty common.

Just a heads up. I will be travelling for 2 weeks starting Wednesday. My posting may be spotty during that time, though I hope to be able to post daily still. Please GMPC me if needed.
Brennan Darkblade |
Well, apparently the lake house within a 10 minute drive of Ft Worth had ZERO internet. Being without internet for 5 days was both a blessing and a curse (mostly curses). I am leaving tomorrow for another trip, but this time I *should* have internet enough for 1/day posting. In the meantime, I am going to catch up on my games. Thanks for the understanding.
Aardvark DM |
I just wanted to apologize to all my games, especially the ones I'm running. I have been going through a bit of posting malaise, and don't want to burn out, or even worse quit. As such, I've just been trying to build up to posting. Just wanted to let you all know, I'm not gone, not leaving, just less than motivated at the moment. So, please bear with me. For my games, I expect to have a post up today.
Brennan Darkblade |
I think we all get there at some point. Take your time and come back when you are ready. I know from experience if you start posting "because it's your duty" that you'll quickly grow to hate it and then you'll be more likely to say "screw it" and just walk away. no one wants that.
Aardvark DM |
I'm terribly sorry. The malaise is a mix of my ability to post at work being more limited than before, and sharing a single computer at home. When I get the chance to post, all the updates I need to make begin to feel daunting. I truly intend to return to my previous level of posting.
Brennan Darkblade |
So, if you haven't gotten your flu shot yet, I highly recommend it. This year's strain hit me really hard. Likely because I am immunosuppressed, but still...
On a somewhat related note, I will be travelling all this week, so posting will be in the evenings only.
Brennan Darkblade |
FYI, I am heading out of town for a 2-day business trip this afternoon. Then, starting Saturday I will be away from a computer and unable to post until Jan 3.
So, if you need me before then, please feel free to bot. In the meantime, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

I am finally back, after a week-long trip to Disney/Universal and some minor internet hiccups after I got home. I should be back to a normal posting schedule for a while.
Hope everyone had a terrific Holiday season.
Aardvark DM |
Heads up, I will be having cataract surgery tomorrow in one of my eyes. As such I will not likely be reading/writing much soon after. I may be silent this week (at the least).
Omenhotep, the Woken King |
Hey, team, just a head's up that I'll be hitting the road for my annual CabinCon trip later this week. I'll be in a mountain cabin (no cell service or landlines or internet of any sort) with some old college friends playing D&D. Really bummed by the weather forecast though, I was hoping for some frigid temps and a heaping of snow so we could get the fireplace roaring, but it's looking to be in the mid-60's for a good span of our time =\
Anyway, I'm heading up early Thursday morning and won't be back until Tuesday the 30th.
Brennan Darkblade |
Just want to let everyone know that I am traveling next week for a MAJOR test/evaluation event for a software product my company develops. In the leadup to that, I am going to be really busy at work, and at home, prepping for the week-long trip. I may not be able to post reliably until after I am back.
Brennan Darkblade |
So, I found out last week that I am heading to California on Tuesday (2/5) for a 3-day trip. If history tells me anything, it is that I may be AFK for that time. Please GMPC as needed.
Aardvark DM |
Traveling for the week, but booked a place with wifi. So, as long as my laptop cooperates, I should be able to post regularly. More than usual, potentially, given I have nothing much else to do after work each day. :)
Brennan Darkblade |
I apologize for the complete silence. I have either had no internet, or no chance to log in for the last week and a half. Back to normal posting now (hopefully).
Aardvark DM |
Sorry, I had access, but it was very spotty, and wasn't reliable enough to not piss me off if I lost a post, not to mention I had less time that I thought. The combination of the two made my posting limited. Then, since my return, been busy catching up with work and plumbing issues at home.
Aardvark DM |
It's a tough call on Spellcraft and SLA's.
To Spellcraft, you have to do it as the spell is being cast, but as I understand it, it is based off witnessing any of the three components (V,S, or M) and is affected by Perception modifiers. SLA's have none of those, and they can't be counterspelled, so nothing indicates you can tell a spell is being cast.
I've always been more inclined to treat it as Arcana checks to recognize a spell effect in place (DC 20+spell level, in this case DC 23), or a spell that just targeted you, based on the type of spell.

I will be leaving Wednesday for Origins and will not be home until late Sunday night. If Brennan is still alive by then, feel free to bot me. Otherwise, it was fun playing with you guys.
Brennan Darkblade |
I am back from Origins. What a great time!
...and on to the next thing!
I will be a councilor for Children's Camp Thursday through Monday (6/21-6/25), so don't expect a lot of posting during that time from me.
